Otterbox Defender Unpacking and initial thoughts - Droid Incredible Accessories

HTC Incredible Otterbox Defender series
So after my first evening with the case I thought I'd post my initial impressions. The case is a dust/lent magnet but this is no different than other silicone cases I've seen. I've had some issues with the screen protector sticking to my phantom skinz protector but it's quickly fixed by pressing on both sides of the case. It's nothing like I used to see on my 3gs Defender.
The screen protector does affect viewing quality of the screen, but it's not bad and you get used to it. The screen still looks better compared to the EVO's washed out screen.
The belt clip works well. My 3gs only fell because of the poor belt clip design, but this one seems more secure. Speaking of which, no drop test yet

Here are some additional up close images. I'm showing the cover for the lens / flash as well as the inside of the front cover. You can see the hole for the optical trackball and the dark cloth that covers the speaker.
I also have a couple more things to note.
1. Without my Phantom Skinz applied (I had front only) the phone feels loose inside the case. Not sure if this is by design.
2. Again, without the Phantom Skinz, I eliminated the sticky screen issue but now it feels like a resistive touch screen of sorts. You can feel the protector depress onto the glass.
3. Lint/Dust magnet!
4. It feels great in the hand and the belt clip is much better than the 3gs and older style defender clips. I haven't had one accidental drop. When I used my 3gs it would always fall out.
5. I compared it to a friends 3gs defender and a Seidio Rugged case and it's actually bulkier than both! It was surprising, but not much bulkier.

Will it fit with the HTC 2150 extended battery?

I received my case yesterday but it seems just a tad too big since the phone slided back and forth when you shake it.
michaelkahl, how does your case fit?

I also just got the Defender for my Incredible and my case does the same thing. When I shake it side to side you can hear the phone move. This is my first Otterbox so I just assumed it was normal.

Its not normal, I called Otterbox and they are sending me a new case but they are on backorder so it will probably be a while. Told me to throw the other one away...
I have since fixed the sliding issue but cutting a few slivers out of a business card and putting on both sides and at the bottom. Shouldn't have to do this with a $50 case but whatever works I guess.

I have the Seidio Rugged and I couldn't be happier, and since it's designed as two seperate cases you have the option of just using the inner Innocase. Also the Seidio belt clip locks and it's near impossible the get the phone out without unlocking it, just my two cents

rant...
I ordered my case moments after getting the notification email last Thursday. I rang them today to ask if my order was okay and was told that they are backordered nearly two weeks.....I live only three hours from them and they shipped out-of-state orders first?!?.....
I'm on the edge here.....
Thanks for listening.

Shakes in the case? That's very disappointing... I'm waiting till I hear better reviews. Thanks for the post.

My defender also fits a little odd. The Incredible moves around within the inner shell as if it were loose. I called Otterbox and they agreed to send me a replacement under the condition I would have to send the original back so they could inspect it.

That thing is way to big.

Today I called otterbox because my case also has a loose fit. I realized this after removing the Phantom Skinz screen protector. Otterbox says that this is not intended and are sending me a replacement. The item is on back-order, hopefully the next batch don't have this issue.
In the mean time I've stuffed my case with two pieces of paper and it's fits much better. I didn't fold them, just placed them on the back side.

I received my replacement case today and the fit is just as bad as the original. I called in to let them know and she said that was the first she had heard of it. We shall see what happens next.

....And I can't even get one having ordered over a week ago....sigh....

You guys drop your phones a lot?

A lot? No. But it only takes one.

I agree, dropping one can cause some good damage if naked, but my Seidio case has served me well. But I dunno if I want to double or near triple the thickness of my phone for a drop that may or may not happen.
It's just really hard to justify a case that looks like it's made for off road racing.

Sorry to say that I got mine today and I'm not sure I want it any more. After reading that others have received phones with the same issue, replacements have had the same issue, my belt clip broke exactly 1 week after I got the phone, and I feel that I waited this long for a product still in development

Dang....if mine is all rattly I may just have to drive my lazy arse down there and shake it under their nose.

So yeah, long story short...the replacement rattles as well. Hit the video above for more info.

best protection?

is it seidio all the way?
looking for really good protection. want to keep my hero pristine
so, was looking @ the seidio innocase 2 and screen guard. any other suggestions or am i on the right track?
invisible shield
Love mine and wouldnt use a case or sleeve ever again. The only caveat is that it requires 12-24 hours to dry and set. Totally worth it though.
Seidio + Zagg shield = Ultra protection!
...was having a problem picking between the 2 so i use both
i use just the seidio holster and no other screen protection. I've never dropped my phone or put it face down on anything and I have zero scratches on the phone what-so-ever.
I occasionally find my phone in my pocket with my keys and loose change and still haven't notice anything more than a few finger print smudges that can be wiped clean. It's amazing having a phone with a glass face. Every other touchscreen phone I've had untill this point has had a "hard plastic" face and scratched fairly easily.
I had the zagg's on my other phones and I really don't prefer the image quality and texture of the touch screen after applying it. But to each their own. As far as cases/holsters I swear by seidio a million %, and if I liked the screen protectors I'd swear by zagg as well.
I'm a Zagg user. I've been using them since my Mogul. I can agree/say that when you first put it on the feel it gives you is offputting. You go from a super smooth screen that feels like an ice rink to one that is a little bit more sticky. It's not as easy to slide your finger across. However over time it dries up a bit more and you get used to it. The trade off for me is I beat the crap out of my phone and have never even damaged the shield, let alone the phone itself. I had one on my TP for a year before selling it and when I peeled it off the thing looked brand new. I believe that ghost armor advertises that theirs isn't sticky like "others". Or that may have been another company. I don't remember.
Every phone I've had before this one, I've put a case and InvisibleShield on it. When I bought my Hero, there were no cases/screen protectors available yet, so I had to make do without one. I eventually just forgot about getting one, and I've had mine for a month now with the only flaw being DUST UNDER THE SCREEN!! But yeah, since the screen is glass, it takes a lot more to scratch it than a plastic screen, and I've found that whatever the body of the phone is made of doesn't scratch very easily, or maybe it just hides them good. Either way, I don't drop my phones, put them near keys etc., and I don't let my friends hold my phone. I always tell them that if they drop it and break it or something happens, I'm not using my insurance on it (they're paying for it haha).
I haven't used the Seidio, because I think it looks 'cheap' from the pics I've seen floating around on Android Forums...
I bought the silicone skin from Handhelditems.com for $5 (approx) and besides the attraction of lint from my pockets, it works GREAT. I've accidently dropped my phone from about 5ft on tile, and with the silicon skin it just bounces.
I'm still looking out for a good full body case, but they have been hard to find.
just an f.y.i. the Seidio case is about the best case I have had on a phone. It fits like a glove and it very durable, thin and is smooth to the touch.
pictures don't do the case any justice in my opinion
I use a Boxwave Designio leather case (vertical flip) its great, it doesnt interfere with typing, the screen is protected at all times, I highly recommend it
http://www.boxwave.com/products/dlcase/sprint-hero-designio-leather-case_3718.htm
i ended up going with the seidio case and the boxwave anti-glare screen protector. it is supposed to be good... i still may get some sort of leather protection. i DO drop my phone... haha, you should see my touch... it's actually held together well with all the times i've dropped her!
oh and THANK YOU for all the suggestions, really appreciate it.
anyone know the best protection that will prevent screen breakage??? Cause my last hero fell like 6 inches and broke the screen, I dont think invisishield will help with that...
Currently I have a zagg invisibleshield and the htc silicon case.
The zagg at first didn't seem that great, but if you get it put on correctly (use the solution generously) it is very nice after it completely dries.
Only complaint I have with the zagg is that somehow even with all the preventive measures I still got a few small hairs underneath it, but only on the screen. They do have a lifetime warranty and I might try to utilize it to get a brand new front piece.
It is a bit sticky on the screen compared to the glass but really it isn't that bad at all. It becomes much more slick once it dries.
As a note on the toughness of the glass screen, I saw a video on youtube with a guy who took a razor blade keys and coins to a screen protector. After, he removed the protector and did it on the bare glass and he saw no scratches, nor were any apparent in the video.
As for the htc silicon, fits fine with the zagg on the device, but the silicon attracts tons of dust and fuzz. This still concerns me as I really want the dust kept away from the phone because my last phone got significant dust under the screen.
And a final note, the zagg does not protect the bottom edge where screen meets phone, and this is where my first developed dust under screen. The pieces are claimed to be cut perfectly but they really are not the exact dimensions of the device, leaving that space open. I actually cut off a very thin strip from the leftover material and laid it in that space, just to make sure.
Doesn't look super great, the little piece I stuck in, seeing as it is pretty hard to cut a piece that small, but I am more worried about keeping my phone dust-free than having the shield look perfectly invisible.
Can't complain about lifetime guarantee though, if they are reasonable with it.
anyone have a leather pouch they prefer?
Check out Boxwave's Designio case. Its not exactly a leather pouch (as in you take the cellphone out of the ouch to use it) but its great protection. I bought a PDair and didn't like it because it was hard leather and it interfered with typing a lot. But this Boxwave case is way better as it doesn't interfere with typing, and the whole phone is covered all the time while not in use.
(See the vertical flip because the horizontal flip doesn't protect the phone against falling from the top of the case, happened to me with the PDair cover I had and I was so PISSED OFF; you buy an expensive case, thinking your phone is greatly protected and it fell because of it).
i think this one is the one you mean (bottom)

looks nice. right now i have a verizon droid eris leather horizontal case and it is a little tight... i'm a little worried it pushed in my send/call button a little. i am probably just being paranoid though! i just can't tell how much it is supposed to stick out LOL
I use the Body Glove 2pc Snap Case and Invisashield. If you need a holster also, stay on your current track.
is the seido case for the hero all around even screen protector? i saw the video for innocase for other blackberries that cover everything, even comes with a silicon keyboard of their phones, but when i look at the hero pics of the case it doesnt look like it
from what i understand it does not protect the screen.... it covers the back, and the sides...
Just ordered BodyGuardz from amazon for my hero.
But I don't get even my hero and BodyGuardz.
When I get them, I'll post the review.

Otterbox Review (Impact, Communter and Defender)

ok so basically I couldn't decide which one I wanted, so ended up ordering all three of them. Now I've got all of them, I figured I'll give us a quick review and some photos so other people can easily pick between the three of them.

This is a photo of all three cases, Impact, Communter and Defender
So here we go:
Impact
Pros:Cheap, offers decent protection, easy to take on and take off
ConsA lint magnet (REALLY!), doesn't look very classy, doesn't have cover for the ports, not easy to take out of pockets, lack of belt clip
This is the first of the three cases I got. It's the one I've used for about a month already. My biggest issue with it is that it's a big lint magnet. The case picks up all the dust and lint in your pocket and I find myself constantly cleaning it. Also the lack of covers for the ports can be annoying especially if your pocket is quite dirty
front and back of the Impact.
Communter
Pros:Classy look, hard shell, doesn't seem like as much a lint magnet as Impact, ports cover, buttons are a bit recessed on the top much nicer than the Impact buttons
Conslack of belt clip, bottom HDMI port cover doesn't seem to snap in place and is lose, took me a few tries to put it on right as it's rather a tight fit, not as easy as the Impact to take off and put on
This is the case that I think looks the nicest out of the three. The hard shell and finish on the back make it look really classy. My two issues with it are the HDMI port cover doesn't seem to really hold in place (see the photo below) and I'm worried that over time it may rip off and it doesn't have a belt clip. The perfect combo would be Communter with Defender's clip.
front and back of the Communter, as you can see my Streak is in there currently.
showing what I mean by the HDMI port cover being lose.
Defender
Pros:Belt clip! best protection out of the three, port covers
Cons:Too expensive, too big, when out of the belt clip doesn't feel all that good in hand
This is the most expensive of the three cases and to be honest, I was rather disappointed. When out of the belt clip, the defender just feels like the Impact and I felt the outter part doesn't fit all that nice around the hard inner shell. I was worried it may peel off over time. Also the Defender does add quite a lot of size to the Streak so it may carrying around it much more difficult. Even with the belt clip, it is a rather big thing to carry around on the belt. Also, with the snap in belt clip, I find it a bit difficult to take it off for calls, maybe if I kept on using it i'd get better.
thickness comparsion of the three. The last photo has the Defender with its belt clip removed.
front and back of the Defender.
some shots of the Defender's belt clip.
Ok, so that's it. I think the perfect combo for me would have being the Communter with Defender's belt clip but as life is, I'd settle for the Communter. Hope this is useful for people who are thinking of buying an Otterbox case.
Thanks for the review. I agree, the commuter seems to be a nice "just right" between the two. An option for a screw-in belt clip would be nice, but I prefer to carry in my pocket.
Please fix links to your pics. Maybe a more permanent hosting.
I didn't realize they capped the bandwidth, i'll have to fix it later tonight when I get home as I don't have the pics with me at work.
ok, images fixed
I have the first one, and I must say that I agree with everything you say except for the lint issue. I don't have that problem at all. If lint is your issue, perhaps it's your laundry. As for the bulkiness of the case, hate it. The buttons are too pronounced, and the port is not protected at all. This case is fail. Anyone want to buy this off me?
Thank you very much for these reviews! I am waiting for my Defender case too arrive. I ordered one from Dell and waited and waited, then got an email saying there had been a delay. I found one on eBay for $20 less plus free shipping so I ordered it with intentions on returning the original back to Dell if it ever got here. The day after I ordered the eBay, the Dell one had been shipped- go figure!
Anyway, I am anxious for it to come. I dropped my IP3g two weeks ago and the glass broke (no otterbox) so I quickly ordered one for it and it arrived last night- LOVE it! I'm hoping the one for my Streak is a good as the one for my IP.
Great review and thank you for saving me from doing it
I too have all three cases, and have settled with the Commuter as my daily driver, for exactly the same reasons that you are describing.
The Commuter feels indeed as the most polished of the bunch; really adding to the Streak's classy look, plus the added protection. It does feel a bit more slippery at times though, due to the hard shell plastic.
All in all all three cases are great protection options for the Streak.
It feels like a device has it made in the market, when OtterBox decides to support it.
Peronsally, I really like the belt clip of the defender, just feel like they should have made the belt clip an option for the Communter as well. Or if the Defender had a hard outter shell instead the Impact like rubber outter shell then it would have being perfect for me.

Yeah, most likely it is my laundry. However, do you not find it collects dust really easily? Also can't wipe it with a tissue as the white stuff from the tissue gets stuck on it too...

maybe a bit of silicon polish sprayed onto the impact case would help with the lint issue?
Damn, just bought the defender not many pics online, thanks for this, though a bit late for me. None the less I'd still need a belt clip or something to put on my hip, hating current pocket carry.
Have you got your Defender already? I found the Streak is still too big to carry on the hip...
I have the communter, at first i thought it was kinda big, bit over time im liking it alot!
Just got the commuter. Loving it so far

[REVIEW] XT720 Otterbox with video.

I have put together a video review of the Otterbox Commuter Series Case for the Motorola Milestone XT720.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this case:
http://www.otterbox.com/Motorola-Milestone-XT720-Commuter-Series-Case/MOT4-XT720-20-E4OTR_A,default,pd.html
It can also be purchased from Amazon.com for a bit cheaper:

Here is my video review:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrEc_0CNPag
Excellent. I have bought one through Amazon, though the price is astronomical (because of unusual shape), it is worth the money. In initial days I did a lot of SD card swap, SIM swap so the rubber loosened up a little bit, but it is keeping my phone like new in spite of a few bumps.
I have the otterbox case and I think it changes the angle at which the usb/charge cable is attached.
I think over time it is going to cause damage to the micro usb slot.
Otterbox is way too thick and bulky. I prefer SGP Ultra Capsule Case

It already did. At least I managed to break the little cover in a few weeks. And yes there is a high potential that even the contacts will get damaged if not handled carefully through the slot.
I was actually thinking about taking a dremmel tool to mine and sand it down a bit. It's the top of the bevel that causes the problem. I have to agree that there is a huge potential for damage in the long term.
SGP is way better!
I've had the Zagg & the SGP.
My buddy has the Otterbox.
The Zagg doesn't look great & tends to 'smear'.
The SGP is slim fitting, firm & cushy. The screen protector is very good.
The otterbox is a big & puffy, looks like a retard's helmet.
You have to be a douche bag to use the otterbox IMHO.

I know. I'm just goofing around.
I actually only use my otterbox when I know that I'm going to be outside for a long time. I don't want to drop the phone and break it now that I have it just the way I like it!
Even though the SGP case is nice, nothing beats the look of the phone without anything on... Only use the case when I have to since I just love the look of the XT720 natural. The screen protector for SGP XT720 feels good, but I just noticed the other day a small hole in the screen protector - no idea how it happened. Fortunately it's at the bottom by the buttons and not by the actual screen so no big deal but I can't figure out how it could have gotten such a hole... wonder if that would have happened with otterbox.
my otterbox case just came in today, it fits nicely & looks pretty solid too...very pleased with it!!^^

I live in Panamà, so i order it from Ebay ...
I've had this Otterbox since I got my phone last September and have been pretty satisfied with it. I had a similar one on my Blackberry that had the hard case on the inside of the rubber case and the rubber loosened up. Not on this version....even after the numerous battery & SD card pulls during the ROM flashing fun. I do a fair amount of outside work so I feel the need to protect my phone as much as I can.
Also, I used the screen protector that came with the Otterbox, but when I had to replace my phone, it got boogered up. When the new one came, I simply left the temporary shipping screen protector on and it's done quite well.
Accidents happen (Accident After-Action Report) XD
Well I have even more love for this case. Recently I was in a bicycle accident that ripped my chin open and required many stitches. My phone/music player is always in the front synch pouch of my slingbag when I'm riding. When I flew over my handlebars and landed on my chin, I also landed right on the phone and I slid a good 3-4 feet before I stopped. While my chin was pretty messy by this time, my phone came out intact and with a lot less scratches and gauges then I thought. On the plus side, it even has a bit of soaked-in blood on the scratches that makes it look badass .
Overall, I've gotten quite a bit of value out of my initial 34.99 that I payed for it and I'm still using the case since. Hope my future replacement for my XT720 will have as good of a case as my Otterbox.
EDIT: Pics for proof.

I have got my otterbox case last week from ebay India. I am completely satisfied with the item.
It looks sturdy and gripping in hand. I like the look of the phone with this case.

How do you protect your DINC?

I want to see how other users protect the DINC as I have my methods, and I want to see the best solution.
IN a perfect world I would rock it naked, but knowing that i have dropped the phone like 30 times, this is not an option..
Im using the Seidio Innocase II on my Dinc and I find I like this case best..
Should I use a screen protector on my next phone? I dont use one now... but i paid dearly.... I was using a smaller case and the phone fell face first to the ground and when i picked it up it has small hairline scratches on the screen...
Needless to say I switched back to the safety of the Seidio Innocase II with its lip to protect falling on its face, but..
I dont know what to do.. Im not going to buy a screen and replace it..
and I hate screen protectors...
Hmm... What to do for next time.
Hate or not it's still cheaper than replacing the screen. I use the Seidio Innocase II with the Seidio crystal screen protector and have droped my phone about 100 times so far and no damage.
Hmm, i dunno
i have a Seidio SURFACE case with a ZAGG screen protector (only reason i got this was because of the life time warranty). not one scratch, dent, or anything on the body or screen of the phone. the case how ever has been through hell and back.
I keep mine where it's safe

Had a screen protector on it before and my screen shattered, only cost $30 to replace anyway so if anything happens bad enough again, I'll just replace again.
Likely won't ever or at least won't happen for a long while.
I used the gloss silicone cover sold by Verizon for the first year that worked very well and protected my phone from drops onto concrete, brick, and marble. I just bought the $5 Speck case from Verizon that I really like so far but haven't "tested" it.
I used a screen protector for a while, but didn't like the rainbows caused by finger smudges, so now my screen is unprotected (but still in perfect condition).
Silicone case and my pleather HTC belt case. No screen protector i got sick of them. I cook pizza and stupid flour used to always get wedged under my screen protector so i stopped using them.
Hmm yea i will prob stick to the seidio innocase screen protectors suck

I think screen protectors get a bad rap because of installation issues. I bought a three pack of screen protectors from Amazon for less than a buck, and they work great. Spend the time to install them right and I haven't had one come off.
It might be slightly more prone to fingerprints and glare but the ones I use are clear with no rainbowing.

Verizon screen protector and speck shell. Both of these work great together.

I use the Verizon shell/holster combo. Well, I don't actually use the combo, just the shell. It's a one-piece cover that clips onto the phone. The shell protects the camera lens and its edges help protect the screen as well. Since the shell doesn't cover the ends of the phone (just the sides), I can wipe the screen off without getting an accumulation of grease and dirt just inside the shell's edges.
I have never used a screen protector. I got my DInc days after its initial release and still have a perfectly smooth screen, so why bother? I usually put the phone in an otherwise empty pocket, whether it be in jeans, cargo shorts, or a jacket.
I do have a few very minor nicks along the top and bottom edges of the phone, but they can barely be felt and you have to hold the phone at the perfect angle to see them.
I'm hoping my next phone and case hold up as well as my DInc.
For a year my phone was naked, got dropped a couple times on tile floors and hardwood - the battery door would fly off, sometimes the battery would pop out - took it like a champ. Then my poor phone met concrete paving stones. It didn't like them and the screen shattered. So after getting a replacement it now resides under a screen cover from htcpedia and a silicone case.
Rocked it naked for about 6 months until it took its first drop, now it's in an OtterBox Commuter series case without screen protector. only a couple minor scratches around the outside edge of the phone from the drop, screen has minor wear and tear (small surface scratches, have to be in BRIGHT light to see them).
I have the invisible shield for the face and I have the seidio active burgundy case and they work great together. The invisible shield is great and the response on the touch screen is like its not even there.
It would take a lot of hard thrashing to even begin to damage my incredible.
Trident Kraken Case
Zagg screen protector (because it's never gone more than a minute without a screen protector...ever)
I watched a video of a shop selling the Trident Kraken and they put the phone in the case, climbed a ladder 10 feet high, and dropped the phone from the top and his arm's length. He let go and it bounced a couple times upon hitting the PAVEMENT. He got down and showed the camera that it was still perfectly alright. I was sold, and bought the case a few minutes later online. They have many different colors and replacement parts. I got grey/black.
I took the phone out a few weeks ago to change the battery and it still looks as good as it did the day I bought it. I've dropped it, bouced it, even thrown it all the way accross my shop to someone who didn't catch it and it hit a toolbox instead. Didn't even scuff the case.
Sure it's a bit larger, but I don't mind at all since I've been looking for a tough android smartphone since android came out. And since I had to buy the entire phone myself not on a plan, I don't get insurance, so the case doubles as my insurance policy, as well as making it strong enough to take to work with me and not have to worry too much.
Take a look at the Trident Kraken. Its also cheaper than other comparable tough cases.
I will only buy Otterbox cases, I have the Commuter case on my inc with their screen protector.
I have owned several seidio cases, they just don't match the quality or customer service of Otterbox.
I am biased because my dog recently went after my phone and the otterbox saved it from destruction
I'll be honest, when I first got my Inc, I had nothing on it for about 2 weeks. I ordered some cheap case/screen protector/car charger for like 4 bux on ebay. It's the same case the kiosk at my mall sells for 20. So I laughed. It was super tight on it when I first put it on, but because of the stupid design for the sd card under the back cover, I had to remove it. After taking off a few times, it started being very lose, and eventually broke.
The screen protector has held up pretty well, other than a deep gash in one spot, but it's not in the functional part of the screen, but in the blackened part towards the top right corner.
Recently, I picked up a *speck case from Verizon for like 5 bucks, and it's made my Inc the perfect size for my hand. The other case gave me problems with hitting the "p" button when I texted because of my fat fingers lol. The speck case is absolutely perfect. Would prefer it was pure black rather than red rimming, but it'll suffice until I upgrade to the Vigor.
Had a kraken and since have gone back to the vzm high gloss silicone case. This case has saved my phone a number of times and I consider the incredible to be a durable phone. I've thrown this phone through a wall and its still working.

I used to have it in a (pleather?) case I got from verizon when I got it. That lasted about a year before it got too worn down. I then had it in a cheap case that was horrible and I ended up throwing away, so now it is not in a case.
I always have a screen protector on it. If there is one thing that is super annoying on a phone when it gets scratched, its the screen.

Note II Otterbox Coming Soon!

Was just looking around but they have it in White and Black coming soon! But too expensive for me

The Defender case would be nice for when I go mountain biking.... :fingers-crossed:
Amazon will have it for a lot cheaper. One thing I noticed it said one year warranty. When did they change that? Used to be lifetime.

Most likely when people started calling them on it.
Otterboxes are overpriced and overrated IMO.
Sometimes bestbuy gets them in early at least it was the case when I got my htc evo lte at the time

So who else do you recommend for a durable case?
thank you.
I was hoping they would make a case. I currently have a Defender on my iPhone 4. I wish they had come up with another solution for the home button. As it is designed there is a hole in the screen protector which can allow dust to get behind the screen protector.
Instead of the otterbox I think I will be going with a Seidio active case with clip and apply my own screen protector.

Well i am still waiting for the otterbox, I have looked at the Aegis and Seidio lineup and i feel they do have some design flaws, i know it wont matter for a lot of people but for me its a deal breaker, look at the back of Aegis or Seidio, the outer hard shell doesnt have any support at the bottom near the usb charger, so whenever you pull your phone from your pocket the rubber will get misplaced and pulled in different angles, because it doesnt have any support. There are a few videos on youtube complaining about that.
Thats not the case with otterbox, the hard shell pretty much encompasses the whole device.
just my 2 cents.

It has plastic all the way around it. I have to use the usb plug to pop the rubber cover out of my kraken case my my nexus, I can't get it with my fingers.

Just pop out the screen protector on the otterbox. I have a defender on my GS3 and I just popped out the otterbox screen protector and put a zagg shield on instead.

A lot of people like the Trident cases. I'm especially excited for the Kraken AMS, which has loads of accessories (car mounts, bike clips, etc). Trident seems to develop a wider range of cases for their phones, all of which are cheaper than the lower end otterbox.
The main advantage with Otterbox is the plastic screen cover, which is built into the case. This is a hit-or-miss, depending on the preference. For me, it is a big miss because dust will invariably get in behind the screen (especially if you work construction like me), forcing you to remove the case to clean the phone on nearly a weekly basis. After a while of taking the case on and off, the soft outer shell will lose its tension, and will start to flop off when you don't want it to. This has been a constant design flaw with Otterbox.
The other thing Otterbox has going for it is the full size holster. I use the holster all the time, so this used to be a plus. The problem is that the hard plastic clip is prone to breaking.
I now go with the Trident Kraken and SpiGen protector. I don't use the included belt clip, and instead I use a full pouch which fits the phone case and all. This has worked well for my Nexus, and should work well for the GN2 as well.
It is a matter of preference though. This is only my opinion, and lots of people are quite happy with Otterbox.
