Otterbox/Seidio USB port opening - Droid Incredible Accessories

My wife and I recently picked up a pair of Incredibles, so the next obvious step is to invest in the required accessories. We've already ordered (but have not yet received) an Otterbox Commuter case and Seidio Innocase Active case. I was about to order some additional micro usb cables as well as a pair of car chargers, but a comment in another thread got me thinking. Is there an issue with either of those cases not allowing a "standard" micro usb connector to reach through the case opening? The OEM cable has a much slimmer connector than the one on the car charger. Anyone owning either of these cases had any issues?
Thanks!
-=Zzedly=-

I have used the Seidio Innocase Active for months now and just received my Otterbox Commuter by mail today. Neither pose an issue with the micro usb cables. I've used several different ones. I ordered the commuter because of its smoother back, improved durability, and because I've heard that it's much easier to push the power/volume buttons with it- and it's no lie!

Ebay Case review

I just received this case from Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310278043272&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Price was $7.59 with free shipping. Shipped the same day I ordered it.
A7 fits in it, although there's not much room. Corners of the A7 protrude slightly.
But, I am pretty happy with it, especially for the price.
You can open it up and stick the flap in the other side to hold it at an angle if you'd like.
Power button, charging port and headphone jack are accessible. You would have to slide one of the elastic bands over to access the USB and HDMI ports, but it's no big deal.
The way I have it in the case right now, you have to open it to charge it. But, you could flip the A7 if you'd prefer access to the port when closed.
I like the soft leather (?) interior. I think it will prevent any scratches on the screen, which is why I bought a case.
Thanks man. I figure it's worth the $8.

Its an okay case however did you know that some of the Nook Color Cases will work with the Elocity. The devices are the same size with the exception of the Elocity being thicker. I have found several cases at Barnes & Noble that work with the Elocity.
I went to check out some Nook/Nook Color covers tonight but found that none of them were quite right for me. Most didn't fit or hold the A7 in place. The few that almost worked were too short, I don't mind if a little bit of the device shows but too much was exposed.
I just ordered one of these and can't wait to get it. Thanks for the images, they really helped me make my decision.
Thanks from me too I ordered one as well. I figure 7 bucks shipped isn't too bad a risk.
Confirming that the nook color zipper case is the only one that works with th A7. The A7 fits into the book type cases but it does not clamp in tightly and can easily fall out. I picked up the neoptene zipper one from Barnes and Noble and it has a very nice fit. Not loose and moving around at all. $30 bucks though.
Is that a sleeve or a case Cadiken?
Zipper sleve if you will. You cannot use the A7while it is in there.
Received my case from ebay, thanks!

Same here and the wife really likes it. I think the OP should get a commission!
Thanks OP - the a7 is such a wacky shape - good that you found anything that comes close!

Possible cases?
Hey guys,
I'm currently deployed in Iraq. I just bought the A7 and am awaiting its arrival any day now. I very very excited. I obviously dont have access to Barnes & Noble so I was wondering since most of you have checked out the cases there if any of you came across these two cases for the nook color? Do you think they might fit the A7? It wont let me post outside links until I have posted 8 times. But both cases can be found on Amazon. Thanks in advance!

I have the e-bay case, I would recommend it. It allows you to open and close, as well prop up to watch movies
It won't block dust, but it will protect the front. I have a belkin kindle 2g sleeve that is neoprene that does slide over the entire ensemble if you are looking for dust protection (though there is a bit of extra room).
Case
Yeah I tried ordering it from ebay but the seller wont send it to my deployed location. My most reliable sources are Amazon being the primary and tigerdirect/newegg.com
I ordered and received the case from ebay mentioned by JAZZBONE at the beginnging of this thread. I like it, it works well at protecting the screen and tucking the closure strap in while in the open position does indeed make for a great stand. I inserted my A7 so the charging port can be accessed while closed. When I am on the road I flip it so the earphone port can be accessed while closed. It would be nice if it were padded. I am anxious to see the case eLocity will be selling.
Is everyone who bought this case still happy with it?
I bought it and I like it. It protects the screen. It doesn't interfere with the micro sized micro card reader I keep in the USB slot. The elastic on the other end of the case holds down the door that was covering the USB and HDMI slots.
I also have a neoprene case on the way from Amazon. Hopefully the A7 and the eBay case will fit inside it to keep dust out and keep the tablet safer in my purse.
I also ordered a neoprene case from Amazon,it said it was for the a7 and came with a screen saver,if its the same one I ordered you will have plenty of room with some to spare.
I ordered too! I already scratched the front of my elocity so I'm sure this will provide some protection.

LOL! I asked the exact same question in the other Otterbox thread! Guess I'll be able to answer the question myself here in about 4 days...
Great please let us know and take a picture if you can. Cause that would be the deciding factor for me. I wont get it if I cant dock it. DS7 + Dock is great for gaming. Trying to take off the case all the time would suck and not be worth it.

I have the OtterBox case but no docking station. I assume that it plugs into the multi-pin bottom port. The case adds some added thickness around the whole S7 plus a soft rubber bumper which a flap covering the port. The flap opens, hinged on the top or screen side and wraps around the under on the bottom. With the standard OEM cord plugged in, the flap extends past the plug by a good 1/4". Want a picture of cord plugged in?
Did a search for the docking station and found this review page: Docking Station. One of the posts state that they have to remove the OtterBox to dock!

Well that really STINKS! I'm thinking that maybe using the back rest plate for the Streak 5 (it comes with the docking kit) will make it work. That back rest plate is curved to allow for a slightly thicker device to fit into the dock.
If it really can't be made to work then the case will have to go. I won't give up my dock - I like it so much I bought 2 of them....
EDIT: I just dug out the Streak 5 back rest plate and looked it over. It is actually curved the opposite way (compared to what I was thinking) to make it work with a THINNER device - not a thicker one.
Sad to say, but this is NOT looking very promising. I may actually have to make a new back rest plate. The big question will be whether the connector in the docking station will plug far enough into the socket with the case on the unit...
Yea if I have to remove it, then no, I dont need the outterbox. I mean I already hate that I cant dock my zune cause I use the hard case on it (official one) What I wish is if docks made extension cords for it.. Imagine use extension on the dock and you could least get features of dock even if it wasnt sitting in it. That or a block you add on top of the dock to fit with cases.
Anyone know a GOOD decent case that the dock would fit with?
is this the rubber case like the DS5 Otterbox? the one that you had to stretch around, but still held well, or the one that is a complete b*tch to get off once it's on?
I ordered this and got it next day. It's a four piece case. There is a rubber "skin" that goes over the hard shell. It's not the easiest thing to get off, no.
Well, I got my OtterBox today. Nice case - pretty much the ultimate in protection.
BUT unfortunately, there's no way to make it fit into the dock with the case on and since it won't just slip easily out of the case, that's a deal breaker for me.
Unless someone here wants to buy it for what I paid for it I'll be sending it back...
Ok so we know that this doesnt work, sucks, but sadly the dock is a vital thing to have on the counter. Easy to keep in view, hook up to the tv, and works wonders for playing emulators on and easy to see. =)
So we need to figure out which case we can use. Was thinking about a simple cover on it. Rubber maybe ok but I need to find a good one that doesnt "sweat" or make a smell after being on it for ages. Then we need one that fits the dock.
Yeah, I just ordered one of the $5 silicon cases of eBay. We'll see how it works out. I'll keep you posted...
Ordered mine, since I'm not having much luck getting a dock at a decent price figured I might as well since the defender is one of the best case options I've seen for the Streak 7
Yeah, if I didn't have and use the dock I'd definitely keep the OtterBox. I ordered a 2-pack of "military grade film" screen protectors and a silicon skin case from eBay. Combined they were a whopping $10.98
I know its not going to be the same level of protection as the OtterBox, but it should be enough to protect it from day to day knocks, bumps, and bruises. I may also get one of those neoprene slip cases for it...

http://www.all4cellular.com/dell-streak-7-home-audio-video-dock.html 50$ on sale. There are some aftermarket ones too for 25$ but those ONLY charge and sync, no hdmi and so, which honestly, is rather pointless in terms of the streak, since hdmi is nice.

I put a Zagg screen protector on mine.
Got the cheapo skin case the other day. It is just thick enough to keep the Streak from fitting into the docking station.
So I got out a pair of small sharp scissors and enlarged the hole for the bottom connector until it exposed the whole area around the docking connector where it makes contact with the docking station.
That still didn't quite solve the problem. The thickness of the case on the back of the unit where it leans against the clear plexiglass "backstop" moves it forward on the docking station to the point that the connectors don't line up properly.
So the next step was to make a new "backstop" out of thinner plastic. I had an old hotel key card lying around and that worked great. Just the right thickness, and stiffness, yet easy to cut to match the shape of the tabs across the bottom.
Since it is much thinner than the slot in the base I filled in the slot with a little hot glue. That way I can always remove it easily if I choose to since the hot glue doesn't stick that well to hard non-porous surfaces.

[Q] Will the Smart Dock Work with Seidio Active Case?

I am interested in buying the Smart Dock for the Note 2, but I cannot go without a case as I have already had to replace the phone once. I am currently using the Seidio Active case and was wondering if it would still fit in the dock? I have heard that Samsung has left some wiggle room for cases in reviews, but will it be enough to accommodate the kickstand as well?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jared

My guess from seeing other docks/chargers you need a slimmer case, like Surface or any TPU cases. Active might be too tight, but I don't know for sure.
I just received my smart dock 2 days ago and I also use the Active case, it does not fit properly. You have to press down the phone to fully sit in the USB prong and it connects fine but as soon as you go, the spring loaded usb prong and the rubber on the case pulls it back out. When I want to dock, I just partially remove the bottom part of the case or remove it completely.

MHL compatible cases

So I've tried a couple of protective cases out there (both otterbox cases) and I can't seem to find a case that will work with a MHL adapter that provides any real protection. I am using one of those cheap aluminum ebay cases right now but last time I dropped it with it on it my screen broke so I'm looking for one with more protection. What are you guys using that works with your Samsung MHL adapters (epl 3fhu)?
I use the defender and cut plastic off the MHL plug so that it fits with the case on
You can cut the plastic off the MHL plug?! Can you show me a pic please?

I think he means to shave off a little bit of the plastic part of the mhl cable that is preventing the mhl plug from going in. You can use an exaxto or hobby knife.
I had this problem with my galaxy note 1 and since that mhl adapter doesn't work with the gn2, I bought this mhl cable and it works with my bulky case.

There are others on ebay. just make sure that it is gs3 or gn2 compatible.

Works great thanks a lot guys, should have tried this sooner.

Digitals by design 13 piece set

I bought this set for the tpu case but it came with lots of extras
Otg cable, 3.5 mm to 3.5mm, 3.5mm splitter, ear buds with answer call button, USB cable, retractable USB cable, 2100ma wall wort, car adaptor, hard rubber tpu, fake leather book case, screen protector, necklace felt storage bag, a stylus.
The book case is well made but I did not like the fit the buttons at the bottom had a cutout the rest of the bezel was covered in the fake leather.
The tpu case I liked a lot more it fit well just grippy enough still had to make 2 holes in it for the ir blaster and the 2nd microphone.
Otg not supported on the tab 3 I used my s3 to test the cable and it worked. I have a zagg protector on my tab ATM when it gets worn out I'll try out the one that came with this kit I feel like the kit is on the cheap side definitely not worth the 99.99 amazon says it retails for but for all you get it is worth getting at what i paid. I paid 32.99 with free shipping at amazon it was on sale when the tab 3 first came out for 26 i really wish i had jumped on it then.
A note about what i received they say they will give a fish bone wire keeper for the headphones but what i received was the otg cable. Looking at the entry for it on amazon the 10.1 comes with a otg cable so i doubt anyone will get the fish bone wire keeper.
