[q] migrating or copying contacts from my hd2 - HD7 General

Hi Guys
Last weekend I bought the DESIRE HD and the HD7
I am happy with both phones but I did not like the new WM7 that much, its too funky for me , anyway I got a question
I see that MICROSOFT MY PHONE is not available for the HD7 and WM7 yet.
So how can I copy my contacts and calendar entries in HD2 into the HD 7
I dont want to use my Live Messenger as they are full with MSN contacts and I dont want them there, I want to copy on the ones that are on my HD2
I have managed to do this with my HD Desire HD as there is a Sprite Migrate application for it.
I also didnt have a Google Gmail account but I synched it with the Desire HD and now I have the google contacts.
Is there a way to synch hotmail with google or some other stuff ,?

For me, it was straight forward:
Settings -> email and accounts -> add an account -> outlook -> type in gmail address + password.
I always used to activesync to my gmail account anyway (using google sync), so if you used myphone for that, it might not work so well.
The only problem you'll have is that your main 'sync', as it were, has to be a Live one, and your Live contacts will be imported no matter what you do. Seems to be one of the main complaints so far.

Yahoomail with all folders sync on Fuze

Hi All
First off, thanks for this great site and enormous info.
I am new to winmo (got HTC Fuze a week back) and need some help from the experts for email setup on my phone. Have read a lot of posts on email setup and many on gmail, imap and push email but couldnt get my concern answered fully.
I want to setup Yahoomail (free) with all folders (~20) synced with the web version. what would be the best way addressing...
- all folders and sent mail synced in phone & web
- can all emails be on the memory card (8gb?) for easy search
- I have 1 more yahoo and 2 gmail accounts which would be nice to have on phone with all 4 accounts separate. (i know!)
- dont like the idea of forwarding to some mail2web, etc account
1. I thought YahooGo3.0 would be the best fit for me but now I realize that it does not support VGA yet.
2. Tried SEVEN which is great but it didnt syn all folders (SentMail for example). Also, where do messages get saved when using SEVEN?
3. Tried XpressMail but that syncs only Inbox
4. Can the inbuilt outlook be simply used to do this without syncing with desktop outlook?
Many thanks
Mayank

you can have multiple accounts. It sounds like you're opting out of exchange which is fine and it'll still sync. to sync all of the folders simply go into the inbox, menu - tools - manage folders and check all of them. 8gigs is a lot but it's a question of what you're syncing. In options you can put all of the attachments on your storage card. i think the default is message stay on the internal memory.

export myphone contacts to google contacts?

hello, I'm switching from my beloved touch pro to the nexus one, but don't want to manually put all of my contacts to my new phone. is there a way for me to export all my contacts from windows myphone contacts to google and to the nexus. i tried just importing my contacts through my live account, but that only pulled the email contacts and not all of my phone contacts. I'll take forever to do it manually, and if I save them to my sim, I'll lose a lot of info. any help? I'm lost at this point.
I looked for a solution to this for a days. The best solution is http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work- up to now.
thanks. looks like exactly what I was looking for. I'll give it a try and report back.
I found that installing Google Mobile App on my Touch Diamond2 synced all my contacts to my Google Account and therefore automatically appeared on my N1.

There's many ways of doing this....
If any of these apply you can try any of these...
First you can just import them using bluetooth I'm sure. You could just 'mark all' or select all your contacts in your phone book on your phone and just send them using bluetooth to the nexus.
You could also import them into Outlook express and save them as a file and import them into gmail under contacts in gmail.
Or you could set up an extra gmail account and sync your phone's contacts to that account using Google sync and then export those contacts as a file and import them back into your main gmail account or keep them there and use that account to sync with your nexus.
Sorry for making it sound confusing but I'm coming off a symbian S60 V5... I know there's many ways of doing this
I dropped my HTC Touch Diamond down a storm drain, so I'm replacing it with the HTC EVO. My phone synced a day or 2 before, so I have all of my contacts online with Microsoft My Phone. I see no "export" option anywhere on the page. Any help/suggestions for retrieving and importing into the new phone?
I think the easiest way is to set up your gmail account as an exchange account on your Windows Mobile phone and set it to sync mail and contacts.
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
Then once you set up your N1, your contacts will sync automatically. I love this feature from Google as much as any other. You will never lose your contacts again, no matter what happens to your phone. Also, you can edit and add contacts in your gmail account online and they automatically appear on your phone.
DejaOffice will sync your Nexus contacts to Outlook via USB without going through the google cloud.
Is there a solution for exporting contacts from myPhone? I have broken my TD2 and my TD1 so I can't use that to sync the contacts to the phone and export them. If I could I would probably sync all my old text messages as well.
I am embarking on an approx 30 min task of copying and pasting all my 400 contacts from MyPhone to excel then I can import them. At least I get to tidy up my contacts and remove any duplicates.

[Q] HD7 & Windows Live Calendar

Wondering if anyone can help!
Synced my outlook calendar across to the windows live one so that it would show up on handset which it does.
I decided to import some old calendar entries from up to two years ago into my windows live calendar which show up OK on my PC windows live calendar but they have never synced over to my HD7 windows live calendar.
Becoming a bit of a mystery as all my new appointments sync over OK to mobile.
There may be a setting to limit how far back to sync. There is for email.
I’m not syncing a calendar so can't check for you but go into your phone's Windows Live settings.
Well, I have gone into Windows Live settings on mobile and there is an option for email which I have now changed from 1 month to anytime so now all my hotmail emails have synced all the way back in time to my handset.
There seems to be no option for calendar entries so we seem to have no control over this, I hope I am wrong though. Anyway my old calendar entries still have not synced over to mobile which is a pity.
Check Windows Live to see if there's a setting there.
Checked Windows Live, still nothing there settings wise.
Same Problem
I sync my 780 contacts on the live cloud. Then tried to sync with HD7 and it didnt work.
Then went and did a complete reset of my phone. After that with the first sync got all my contacts on HD7 super fast.
Then made some changes on the phone and wanted to check if they update on the live cloud and now phone says it cannot sync and gives error 8000618.
Has anyone facing sync issues?
Not had any syncing problems as such and all my contacts came over to the phone OK.
I reckon the old calendar entries do not sync with the phone apart from reoccuring ones and this is just the way windows phone 7 does things as all the old calendar entries are listed on my live calendar on the internet OK.
Hopefully this might be addressed in an update soon.
Is urs a unlocked from 02 also? u think the unlock is a problem?
It is from O2 but is not unlocked. I did get the unlock code from O2 but have not used it yet, may do in the future.
I do not think it is a handset problem, I reckon it is software ie. WP7
Has anyone else managed to get all past appointments synced to HD7 handset from Windows Live Calendar?
yes you can get past appointments also.
just copy paste all your calendar events into live calendar.
it worked with me

how did you do this? I cant find a way to sync them up!
Thanks, Rick
Having the same fight as everyone with this stupid non-syncing of Outlook that Microsoft has decided for us. Found a couple of issues that can be worked around.
Clash 1: some items not appearing in Live calendar or on phone.
Fix: Entries were repeat entries set up a long time ago. Reset entries to start today and sync'd ok (so far)
Clash 2: custom catagories caused sync errors.
Fix: Clicking 'Upgrade to Color Catagories...' in the Live account properties (in Outlook) fixed this for most entries.
Still working my way through my calendar so I'll update if I find anything else.
YT
update from my post above...
I've given up again... syncing my windows phone shouldn't be this difficult. Also noticed that Live doesn't fully sync your contacts either whereas Google contacts does... so trying Google calendar next.
Syncing ok with CompanionLink 4, but 1 strange anomaly...
1. I can delete calendar entries on the phone that syncs with google and hence outlook but...
2. if I add an entry on the phone, it doesn't replicate in the google calendar.
The last time I had to faf like this to get calendar sync'ing set up was with a Palm V... I'd thought we'd moved on by now
Can anyone help please?

[Q] HTC HD7 Outlook synchronization not possible

HTC HD7 with WM7 - there is no provision to synchronise with microsoft outlook using Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Centre.
Alternate way of using Exchange Activesync does look complicated
Please address the issue
This has been Answered
There are some workarounds & a 3rd party app, the solutions have been posted and can be easily found with a simple search (here is a hint, CompanionLink for outlook, Windows Live Connector, Gmail Sync). This is a very hot issue and I suspect there will be more solutions forthcomming
Cheers

My Milage
I tried the Hotmail connector, I had some issues, it seemed to have problems dealing with more than 250 contacts. I am using the Demo version of CompanionLink and syncing to my gmail acct and that is working very nicely.
cheers

I followed method two from the two ways to sync and worked just fine. I kind of like getting away from Outlook anyway. Hotmail/Windows Live is great since it can used through any computer contected to the internet to update contacts, phone numbers, etc. But I could see if this is an issue if you primarily use Outlook.

The problem I have is my company isn't running Exchange so for me to get my calendar and contacts I need a way to sync with Outlook.
I've tried Hotmail Connector and it works well for a one time sync but if you have a lot of changes to your calendar I have to make the changes in Outlook and Hotmail.
I refuse to pay $40 for something that should work out of the box.

Unfortunately, both are cloud solutions, which are unacceptable to me for both security and privacy.
If the WM7 device were seen as an external storage device (apparently doable via the registry), does anyone know whether this could faciliate a direct USB sync with Outlook 2010 32-bit?
Both solutions are OK for a one off copy of Calender & Contacts but do not perform a true contniuous Sync with Outlook and do not handle TASKS

if you are not ready to play with the cloud, I don't think wp7 is for you. They seem very serious about making the cloud an integral part of the OS going forward.

no microsoft myphone. All syncing goes through your live email address (like hotmail). For me, I had all my contact info on gmail because of playing on android with my hd2.
1. Logged into hotmail
2. clicked on import contacts under the contacts view
3. Clicked on gmail and followed the instructions
Took about 10 minutes.
For outlook I'm pretty sure you can do something similar, though I think you might need outlook connector from the marketplace to bridge it over from outlook to hotmail. You will only have to do this once, but then I guess your outlook will not be a syncable acct on you phone.
Just looked on my hotmail and it says to export your outlook contacts to a file that you can then upload to hotmail.
I'm a Windows Mobile User for 2 years now (SE Xperia X1) and loved the way I can sync it with outlook.
I have all my contacts (approx 500) in outlook and also use the calendar (+5000 items)
I've spent some time in the past to get the info on my contacts straight and I'm very disappointed about the lack of synchronisation options between WP7 and outlook.
Why does everything needs to be cloud-based.
I don't sync every day, but neither use outlook on everyday basis.
I never experienced syncing problems on either calender/notes/contacts or mail.
I have read something about features that will be added in the near future into WP7 and hope that local outlook synchronisation is one of them.
Hi guys,
I`m new to WM7 and i`m trying t sync my contacts as well. I don`t use Outlook and idon`t have an account. Is there any other way to get my contacts on te phone?
Thanks
So the windows 7 software allows syncing to google calender, email and contacts?
I'm stunned that there is no native support for Outlook synchronization with Exchange - this is old school and what I consider a core component of any smartphone I purchase.
I've just bought a HD7 assuming it would have this functionality (why would I check for this on a Windows phone, next I'll need to check the thing makes calls), guess I'm going to have to sell it on.
There maybe Third party solutions but I can't imagine they're ever going to work as well as a direct sync with the Exchange server in my office, giving Contacts, Tasks, Calendar Items, etc.
Absolutely gutted.
B
Of course there's native support.
If you have an exchange server, you have ZERO to worry about.
The issue is people who use Outlook for Pop and Imap. Or people who just use it for tasks and contacts. Without a Hotmail Connector, there is no way to interface with Outlook like the old school Active Sync did.
Again though, If you have Exchange, it works exactly like it does on any other platform, if not better. The only thing lacking right now is Tasks.
Jimbonics,
I could kiss you. My wife wouldn't like it (and neither would you most likely, I'm stubbly)
I've been reading phone forums, reviews and specs for what seems like months trying to choose the right phone (offline voice command via bluetooth is essential for me but Android doesn't do it and other devices have flaky support) so I skim read this thread: my bad.
Thanks for making my day.

[Q] activesync

hi guys/girls
just flashed my hd2 from wm6.5 to android (what a great step)
the problem is ... is there a free app to transfer my contacts from outlook to android

I did use HTC's sync which you can get from the HTC website. worked perfectly.
But I have now changed roms and it doesnt work on hyperdroid, so im using google for my contacts and used this method to get me calander from outlook to google
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
just thought id post i found this proggy was the easyest way to xfer my contacts

easy as easyness
ty for the other replys
I use Outlook and I also move from WinMo6.5 to Android. I used to sync my HTC to Outlook too.
But usually I also sync my Outlook to a online service (Hotmail, Google). Which service do you use Outlook with? Because Android can sync directly to most of the services and you won't need Outlook "in the middle".
Cheers.
Export contacts from outlook to Google via .csv. works like a charm.
Sent from my HTC Supersonic. Made by HTC tuned by cyanogen.

Downloaded it and tried it and did not like it at all so I removed it after just one go.
Perhaps I did something wrong but it made me run the program to get access to my contacts.
Did the google way instead and that worked well although now google knows even more about me.
Patrick
I use Android-sync.
Small free program which syncs with Outlook!
