[Q] hd7 on Western Digital TV box - HD7 General

ok so I got my HD7 today. when I plug my hd2 into my wdtv box the connect as disk driver pops up & the hd2 is seen as usb drive.
on the hd7 nothing happens, any way for my hd7 too bee seen as a drive?
I have to guess its because the sd card is internal and not removable.
thanks!

Nope, no way to do that :/
There is no option to use any WP7 devices as an external drive as the internal memory (for the OS) and any external, but internal, memory (SD cards or NAND flash) are treated as one contiguous storage area. I.e. it cannot give access to the storage as the Operating System needs it to work on.
The memory is formatted in a special way as well which means that no data would be readable by our computers. At least until someone figures it all out

Storage card disappears after connecting to PC?

Hi,
Recently got my t-mobile version of the diamond2, the Compact V.
I was used to the diamond, which flawlessly functioned as an external disk whenever i connected it to my pc.
When i connect the diamond2 to my pc, i can choose the option 'connect as external disk drive'. From my pc, i see it but cannot access the files (it looks empty). After disconnecting the cable, on the phone the internal storage card is gone... When connected with activesync, i can browse my storage card in my pc explorer. But also; after disconnecting the cable, the storage card is gone !
Only option is to turn my phone off and on, then my storage card magically exists again... How can i solve this? I still have the original T-mobile ROM (1.39.114.2 NLD)
same problem ! The diamond 1 same problem with the internal storage
I wouldn't say it's a problem. It's most probably a protection mechanism to prevent the card from being written from 2 sources.
Then again.. you could call it a limitation from HTC (or maybe microsoft)
It happend only if you choose Disk Drive. If you choose Active Sync, you can access it
This is a completly normal behaviour, and as far as I know, other phones do it this way too (Nokia's for example).
This limitation is not directly related to Microsoft or HTC.
The filesystem can not be 'mounted' to two systems at the same time.
For this reason, the phone will 'eject' the storage and act as a cardreader for the memorycard.
The reason you can access your Storage Card using ActiveSync has a reason. When you are using ActiveSync, the files are send to the phone and the phones writes it to the storage card. This has it's advantages and it's disadvantage.
Advantages:
- Memorycard will always be available for your phone
Disadvantages:
- You need ActiveSync installed on your PC
- Copying files through ActiveSync goes much slower..
The diskdrive option is much faster, cause your pc is directly writing to your memorycard and does not need a driver/software to work.

[Q] External SD as SOLE mass storage device?

Hello.
Got an external SD card today (32gb). Now when the device gets plugged into the computer it mounts it as two separate drives (internal SD and external SD). Is there anyway to either change the priority so the external SD is number 1 or prevent the internal SD from mounting or have them treated as one drive?
I ask because since getting the external SD and filling it up with music my car headunit only detects the internal SD, because it doesn't have the capability of detecting 2 storage drives.
Preventing/being able to control the internal sd from being used as a mass storage device would be the ideal outcome. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Using JPU 2.2.1.
Cheers,
Mike.
I need this as well. Otherwise my car cannot play music stored on the external_sd.
All help is appreciated.

[Q] Samsung Captivate Galaxy S 2.1 sgh i897

when I mount my usb to win 7 computer, two different drives will show.
I have no clue as what part of the phone they they belong. S/D drive, Sim, memory in the phone or internet backup ............?
When I open the drive folder, it only says removable disk [H] &
I'am a newbe and I know the answer is available for those in the know.
Well you have to turn usb on, on your phone. They are internal memory and removable sd card.
I kill coneys, not phones.
one is internal sd, the other is for your microsd card.
actually, you can assign a name to each drive in windows explorer, which will make your life easier.
worst title ever!

[Q] Help with SD Card

For whatever reason, Windows is not seeing the SD Card on my LG Thrill. Can anyone help?
Have you set the phone to be used as a mass storage device? Slight down the notification bar then tap the usb icon and the rest is straight forward.
It might be because windows is trying to mount it as a drive letter that is already allocated to another drive, check this out by going into device manager. Have you have downloaded the drivers from lg?

USB mass storage

Hi,
has anyone succeeded to export the internal or external SD storage as a USB mass storage device? The only thing that works for me is MTP under Windows.
Of what I know it's not possible because the phones usb mass storage only supports one drive.
Our phone has two drives, internal and external SD.
Therefore it has to use MTP for you to see the two drives in Windows.
It's the same for all phones with external and internal memory.
Solution: Unmount SD card, rip it out of the frickin phone, ram it into your computer, start copying HD quality movies super fast, rip it out of your computer and showe it back into your phone! Problem?

Yes, but I don't like to open the filigree back side too often.

Sorry for digging out this old thread. But still better than starting a new one.
I am new to android and the 4X HD is my first android phone. Was using iPhone with PWNtunes, which allows for free file transfers to and from the phone (including music & videos) without using ANY additional software on the other end.
Is there really NO way to activate USB mass storage at least for the external SD card ? I mean, I could like copy the files later to the internal memory, but I really hate the idea that I have to open the phone everytime I want to transfer a file. I can't always mail the files.
I am willing to modify the phone in any way, but I often come across computers where I can NOT install any additional software. Even worse I work with Hardware devices (like my car Stereo or my Set-top-box) where there is no possibility to change the Software.
So USB Mass Storage is the only way to go for me. All the google searches I've done so far point out 2 piece solutions, at best, where I would also need to install software on the PC.
Is there really no standardised solution for this that works on ANY Android ICS (like PWNtunes for any iPhone) ?
I would even pay up to 10 € for this feature, a feature that should be included !
With Total Commander and the Android-ADB-Plugin I have access to the entire file system and SD cards of all my Androids.
I don't know about yours but, for me its enough when I select "LG software" (don't know how's in yours cause mine is in Portuguese...), after I just need to run "LGAutoRun.exe" and I can see the internal store and external sd just like if I had "mass storage" selected.
If I have previously selected "LG software" windows just ask me if I want to open to see the files, but thats normal cause the drivers are already installed.
@Bud Cord & @RuedasLocas
Both are again solutions where I would have to run some kind of software on the Host side.
Yes, this will work for Win7 computers BUT IT WILL NOT work for my TV, it will NOT work for my Car Stereo, it will NOT work for my Printer, it will NOT work for my portable mediaplayer, it will NOT work for my DSL-Router, it will NOT work for my DVB-SetTopBox, and so on. For all those other devices that ONLY understand USB MASS STORAGE it will simply NOT WORK.
Yeah USB MASS STORAGE (UMS) is some crappy old block access device. BUT it is also the defacto standart that every USB Device that can read a USB stick supports.
I had a Windows Mobile 6.1 Phone some years ago, it hat UMS, only for the SDcard.
I had a simple Feature-Phone(SE K610), it hat UMS, again only for the Memory card.
I had a Chinese unbranded Phone with dual-Sims and a TV set built in, it had UMS!
I had an iPhone I could Jailbreak it and activate UMS. Every 2$ cheapo USB stick has UMS.
I again want USB MASS STORAGE at least for the SD-Card. I am still trying to find some workaround. Even that the phone was not rootable at the beginning was no dealbreaker for me, but THIS actually IS a dealbreaker for me. I loved to use my Phone as a USB-Stick and plug it in everywhere. I always did that. IPhone has forced me to carry around my own cable, android is forcing me to carry around a regular USB stick.
I hate the phone for not having MASS STORAGE. The worst part is that it seems like Android has adopted this crap, so any Android phone is just as bad.
Sorry for whining, I just thought that there was some simple solution that I am not seeing.
