advices - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guyz, im new to android world so id like to introduce myself shreddd ... im a software developper so as soon as i get confortable with android i will be developpin some apps . (android sdk is already installed on my eclipse hehe)
Alright so there is my situation.
I have a captivate i896 just rooted it the hard way. Ive search the forum a bit and im going to put cog froyo on my phone. My question is : Ive read about lag fixes specially voodoo lag fixes wich seems efficient and i was wondering if i should install that lag fix before or after flashing to froyo 2.0 ?
Since froyo rom could overwrite everything it could be useless to install the fix before , but since this fix it format the sdcard it could be usefull... anyway you tell me hehe

If I am not mistaken the latest cognition has voodoo built in, it will install automatically.

yessir you put cog on your phone VooDoo is not only initiated but also it will be rooted happy flashing!!
Sent w/cog v2.4 using smoke signals

Please don't post this in Development.
Sent from my Captivate.

On some roms especially i9000 based you have the option between like 5 or 6 lag fixes

[Q] Captivate lag fix help

i'm loving my new Captivate, and i'm glad i made the switch to android. but one thing i wasn't expecting is the lag issues. i see that xda has more than a few solutions for me. but like i said this is my first android phone and the transition has been a little rocky. can anyone walk me through the one of the 1 click lag fixes? i'm on a mac so i'm already starting at a disadvantage. is there anyway i can do this whole thing via terminal emulator right on my phone?
Thanks
First, If you have access to a windows computer, try flashing this rom. its fixed alot of issues for me. including the lag.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751518
If not follow the thread below.
but for the busybox step sideload this one cuz you need busybox 1.17.1(I've uploaded it here for you-http://www.mediafire.com/?z89f7zt9kyxb7n3)[the one in the market causes issues because its missing some commands)
follow the rest of the steps in this thread. this has worked the best for a few people I know. -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747397
OneClickLagFix V2.2 Install Error
Not sure if this is the place for my question but any who here goes:
I applied the lag fix as directed to my captivate froyo 2.2 and got an error. "Hit an error, undoing lagfix! OneClickLagFix V2.2+ failed with erro: Could not mont loopback device/dev/loop5! mount: Device or resource busy
What suggestions as to what I should do to correct this and continue the installation with OneClickLagFix? Delay my last...I found the answer I was seeking. OneClickLagFix V2.2 working as adverstised. Last benchmark test before OCLF V2.2 was 948 and after OCLF 1830.
Nice!!
Hi guys i have a samsung captivate . I installed froyo on it. Build number FROYO.UCJI6
I notice that when i am in applications and i browsing through i get some lag and it sometimes sticks for a slight second.. How can i fix this? i am a noob at these stuff..
I used the juiced ROM and it's great. Battery life rules and the lagfix is great.
try moving all the apps back to the internal memory, those apps that u moved to sdcard must go back to phone memory before applying the oclf

Hi guys I am new in here, dont' know if here is the right place for this question... well here it goes...
I had updated my captivate with the official UCKF1 2.3.3 gingerbread... i want to install voodoo lagfix, but I dont know if it is possible for me to install it in my rom... I am rooted..
TIA
cant use voodoo lagfix on KF1 for now period. its all kernel related and once/if samsung/att releases the kernel source then and only then can ext4 be implemented
to be honest, if your a new captivate user you shouldn't be flashing gb roms, flash to stock using odin and flash 2.2 and 2.1 roms since they are the most stable ones yet...in my personal opinion if ur a noob and want to get rid of most of the lag in your phone flash serendipity 6.4...super easy flash through cwm and it's stunningly fast, crisp and stable as hell...

[Q] what is the best Froyo custom version for Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000

Hi Everyone,
i'm pretty much new being a Samsung galaxy S user (but proud to be )
anyway, i've seen more than 6 version of Froyo 2.2 already here inside the forum but i really don't an idea which one is the best or latest (faster, stable etc)
i've installed Froyo 2.2 XXJPM with Odin and it's working ok~ but still a bit slow and buggy'-Jumpy when sliding within the Menu pages, no idea how to fix...
anyway, any idea which version will work the best for me or i should wait for the original-official one which should come out in Nov this year?
appreciate your comments folks.
thx!
Yanir
I use the stock Froyo JPM with the 336meg memory and universial lag fix, DAMN THE THING FLIES! I'm also using the ADVANCED JFS setting for universial lag fix. I highly recommend you just leave your froyo Stock and do what I did. The 336meg kernel also has busybox and root as standard. But hey, If you want to try roms then make sure the new roms have the universial lag fix in it as i notice a few already do. Also the extra 36megs of ram helps a lot. seriously
thanks!
can you share a link for the guide etc?
appreciate that mate!
Yanir
Or go with Doc's and Kalpik's ROM.
thanks Soniboy84

Newbie here. Froyo 2.2 question.

I have the samsung captivate at 2.1 and it is rooted and has sideloading enabled where I can install non-market apps from my usb card. I want to update to Froyo 2.2. I have been reading but getting different answers about rooting and sideloading Froto 2.2 original leak. Also I have backed up my phone.
1.Can Froyo 2.2 original leak be rooted and sideloaded with this file?(superoneclickv1.5.4)
2.Is this the file for the original Froyo 2.2?(I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low-designgears)
I want to say this is my first android phone and these things are nice. I used to only use windows mobile phones, but now...... hello android.
I would like to say thank you to all the people for the guides and help that make it possible for me to play with this fun phone.

To be honest, I think the latest cognition ROM is way better than the leaked froyo. Faster, smoother, just better. And cognition of course has sideloading enabled.
Coginition question?
I read a little about the coginition roms. They seem really nice but could you answer a few questions.
1.Can you start out with the lastest rom first?
2.I read that it is really hard to go back to your original flash enev if you have a backup.(I did make a backup.)
3.I am not being a smartass but, could you please answer my first questions in my first post please.
Thank you for replying so fast.

If you update to the latest Cognition roms, you wouln't even have to root and enable side-loading.Everything is already built in.

Yes that is the leaked JI6 Froyo firmware, and is also one click odin.
Thank you
Thank you for answering my question.
If i was you I would leave 2.1 and add side loading, lagfix remove blootware and you got a pretty good set up, I have flashed most of the Roms here and I wont say with one is the best becouse each one has it flaws and I think just the leaked Frito has the most bugs tho design gears is basing his cog on it so he fixes stuff as he goes

[Q] Rooted and applied One-Click Lag Fix, what's next?

Okay, so I've done rooting my Cappy with ECLAIR.UCJH7 update. I've also done with the lag fix from the Market. Now, what I want is to flash a new Rom. I'm somehow caught up in the middle of Cognition and Perception, I don't know which one do I use. Can you help me out? And if possible, steps on how to apply/flash it. Do I need to restore my phone to default? Thanks and sorry for too many questions.
first thing you do is get rid of that oclf. It uses a dangerous method to make the phone APPEAR faster in a quadrant test...without ANY real world improvement. Cognition is the most popular, closest to stock build. check it out here. My preference is the leaked froyo with a few tweaks heres a look at cognition http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786532

So you would recommend Cognition instead of Perception? I've read somewhere that there are lots of bug on the cognition. You think I should remove the lag fix?

Ryans oclf=REMOVE NOW! The latest version (2.3 beta 8) of cognition Is built using a kernel as close to stock as possible as i understand. It also comes with the voodoo lag fix. Voodoo is a legitimate file system restructure that produces elevated quadrant scores AND real world results http://project-voodoo.org/lagfix this comes with the latest version of cognition in the link i sent you

For cognition i cant say for sure. there should be instructions on the link i sent to you. I flashed the initial 2.2 froyo rom....i dont want to give you any false information.
You're using a Froyo rom? But have you tried cognition before?

cognition is built using the froyo rom as a base....ive never used cognition...only hear good remarks about its latest version. this is what i run http://www.talkandroid.com/16117-official-android-2-2-build-for-the-samsung-captivate-leaks/ keep in mind that if you install this your bluetooth will not work properly. to me i dont use bluetooth so it doesnt matter to me

Hmm. So the bluetooth will not properly work when I flash the rom that you use? And is it okay to flash the cognition when I'm on the updated ECLAIR? The UCJH7 one..
Correct. Bluetooth will NOT work. Its recommended to flash back to stock..although im not sure if its required in your case...this may help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364

Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I was running Juwe's 4.3 JVH with a Damian kernel and front cam fix which was pretty damn good
JVK AND JVO are the best in my opinion with all the other ones i had problems like things crashing
jvb even crashed the video driver once.
P.S. imho most bugs and issues are selfmade. Although i 'm not a developer, i would always recommend to do a clean upgrade with wiping caches and factory reset! And you should't rely on titanium backup batches to work properly. User apps might be restored by tb but be careful in regards to system apps.
Biggest problem might be the lack of patience when it comes to restoring data. Do it step by step and do a lot of reading guides and follow them thoroughly. Then you should be fine.
But thats just my amateur point of view.
Sent from my hand
So far ive used ficeto JVH and its very smooth but not very visually pleasing. Another good one ive heard its Ezbase. But you have to theme it if you want it to look good.
Cyanogenmod 7 is the fastest and MIUI is the nicest! JVH JVK JVO JVB JVA are in my opinion nothing special
My own Martux ROM off course!!

agreed m8 im currently on it, i feel guilty by just thinking of changing it, i dont know what shall i do now, i (have to flash my phone !!) ,
do i need psychotherapy ??
after doing my root research and stuff, when i started to flash custom roms, i did like 5-6 in the first day started with stock GB, after i did CM7, MiUi, Darky... but i didn't get comfortable with neither, so i decided to stay stock for the moment and went with the JVO + CF-Root, definetly a good start for a root beginner (noob)
beware: if you get the flash / root bug, you'll never get over it, its like a f. virus
the best is cm7 but damnn!!! i cant use video call , now on jv9 + fugumod..

Well said mate. I've said more than once on this site that if you install a clean rom over the remnants of old
Roms then don't blame the new rom for any bugs. Make sure it's a totally clean, full flash, then judge.
I've never had a drain problem for example and flashed lots of roms. Not always, but occasionally I do a "full" belt and braces flash which involves format internal sd, factory reset, flash new rom, factory reset. Maybe a bit over the top, but it's prevented problems for me and I've run jv1, a,b,h, and now o after eclair and froyo and loads of custom roms too
