[APP] NewFront Life Browser - Fascinate Themes and Apps

Hey all! I found this article for a new browser to try out. The UI is pretty slick, but I'm waiting on the performance to get better. Check it out
http://droidattic.com/Apps/App-Review-NetFront-Life-Browser.html

I installed it to see if I like it. Not quite my type. I like the odd angles that it works in, but it's not smooth like the other browsers. Just my opinion.
It does have the super cool feature of being able to show web pages diagonally.

Not a fan of the yahoo-ness

Yeah I'm not using this as my average browser but it does have some potential for sure.

The launcher is also interesting

Scrolling between homepages on nexus one = slow?

Hi,
Recently I bought myself a N1 to replace my HD2. I knew android already from my G1 and HTC Magic and I was pleased by the performance on those phones so I had high expectations for the performance of the N1.
But using the phone doesn't feel like it's superfast at all. Scrolling through pages just feels laggy/slow if compare it to my old Magic with Android 1.6 with Sense on top of it.
Are there other people who have had this feeling? And is there a way to smoothen up things? It feels like Android 2.1 has another way of scrolling through pages than 1.6 and on my phone it really feels choppy, even without live wallpapers.
I'm using CM rom btw and have tested froyo but I don't think any rom has made it better for me.
It can't be true that my old Magic feels faster/smoother than the Nexus One can it?
Yea I know what you mean. I wouldn't be looking for another rom as much as launcher. I like ADW launcher the most but there is also LauncherPro.
Wow, ADW Launcher has idd the same smooth scrolling like I had on my Magic. But I don't like the drawer tho, the original menu with the 3D effect is way cooler. Damn this sucks.
Why doesnt google fix this? They should know by now that their launcher is sloppy.

try LauncherPro, it offers 3D menu system(need to activate it in the settings) and its super smooth for switching screens

Launcher 7

I remember a thread on here a while ago where people were theming to get the Windows Phone 7 look. There's now a launcher on the market called Launcher 7 that does most of the work for you, you should check it out.

Just tried it out. Its very smooth, and its the best one I have come across.

Definitely. If there's one thing that I'd like to see more of on the Market, it's more "alternative" launchers like this. Launcher Pro, ADW, Go, etc. all have their differences, but they're more or less the same in that they're all plays off of the whole multiple homescreen and a dock thing. It's nice to see new ideas out there. I remember a while back there was a launcher that showed all of your texts, email, facebook notifications, etc. in kind of an agenda view. It never really took off, but it's good to see devs think outside the box about the homescreen.

Because thats the core of how android to this point is intended to work. I like Launcher7, its fast, smooth and functional so I play with it here and there but the tile UI is comparatively bland and boring even with widget support (and the custom ones I've seen that arent bland and boring are WAY too busy). I'm gonna put it on my wifes phone since she'll love the big ass simple tiles concept.

sir I want to say this without coming off as a hater at all..
but that homescreen needs a little bit of work, it looks gaudy and awful!

without using custom images those 2x1 and 1x1 tiles (and the headphone/camera images) are all there is. I'm not going to spend anytime importing images because I like my android phone as an android phone and it wont get any use anyway. I was basically showing how the UI looks unmolested.

3-30-11 SPB Shell 3D Launcher - Final Available

Has anyone tested this SPB Shell 3D launcher (the final version) with our Fascinate phones? Is it worth the $15?
Check it @: http://spb.com/android-software/shell/
Let me know what you guys think? Will customizations be coming??
Looks way too fancy for me. I think the "neat" factor would wear out pretty quick. But that's coming from someone who used to use HelixLauncher. Besides, $15 is a bit outside my budget for an Android app, especially when it offers no additional productivity.

There are a few people in this thread that have tried it.
Tried it with the setup in my sig. No luck, blank screen then fc.

I used the beta for a bit, it was alright - definitely not worth 15$ in my opinion.
I like having an app drawer and just 3 homescreens to keep things clean and simple.
The coolest things in it were the animations/graphics and adjustable widgets. The novelty wears off pretty quickly and I went back to good old launcher pro after a few days.

I tried the beta for an hour or so. I thought it was kind of neat that you could reorder home screens pretty easily, but mostly to me it seemed like eye candy only. I do remember SPB being the bomb for other folks in my Omnia days, but that was comparing it to Winmo...
LauncherPro + is $3. SPB is $15. Hmmm...
$15.... and does not make coffee? Thats a shame.
Too expensive for me plus im sure its loose its flavor in a few days or weeks like everything else.

adw ex is a much better option and you could buy it 4x over
or use free launchers
its neat but at $15!?! that screams steal me on 4chan or something
I'd rather put $15 toward helping a dev hack it. I used the beta and it looks cool but...

Spb will cash in on the former winmo user base though. Not from me though.
good day.
I used the beta for a few hours. It was pretty cool but got old fast. There is no way I would pay $15 for it though.

I used it on my Omnia 2 in my winmo days. With so many good alternatives available now in android, no desire to use it in my droid days.
Not very good app.
First load is very slow. take very long time.
Really cool, but not $15 cool. Maybe if it were $4.99.
Alternative agenda..
Everything I've read points to the fact that they are hoping to get picked up by a manufacturer as a UI like Sense, Blur etc. This may be more of a feeler effort to see what the community thinks. But the $15 price tag is a bit over my beta testing tolerance lol. I mean really...15 dollars? (not to mention most people around here bellyache over apps costing a dollar or two so I don't understand their reasoning as far as pricing goes.) It is "pretty" but as far as increased functionality I don't see any benefit and all that prettiness has to be a resource gobbling monster. I'll stick with LPP does all I need and more.(especially when fede is doing a complete rewrite to LP )
pretty cool, no where near being worth $15 imo. The fact that you cant delete other screens as far as I can tell is really a deal breaker for me. I have no need for more than 1 screen though.
Guess I'm the only sucker who bought it. lol.
They made a lot of improvements over the beta. You now have 5 buttons on the bottom, two are changeable. There is an app drawer finally, and they fixed the screen reorganization and renaming issues. They also added a few more widgets, and the boot time is faster.
There's a lot I like about it, and a few I don't care for. Will be interesting to see what improvements they make from here.

From what you said, I can not imagine how slow the beta version is, as the release version is still too slow!

[APP] Dualweb browser

Check it in market its pretty cool but I think it's a bit buggy
I was on pulse news just browsing and came across it.
If you have problems, disable 2 screens from the browser leave google then enable again
I'm at work so I can't be very descriptive
GREAT!!! it works fine. Some bugs but this is the first version so its nice for a starting version.
I would prefer to have vertical split screen option like in windows 7 that you can have one screen in the left and the other one in the right

Agreed, they updated it today to iron out some bugs
This is awesome. Perfect for keeping up with various subforums at once. Thanks for increasing my ADD.
This shows a dev who understands how the tablet environment works. Needs the labs quick controls app or something similar to access bookmarks, new tab, etc.
This is definitely awesome! I could be reading XDA and school work at the same time

This is way cool! I've wanted, for a while now to make dual page browser but sadly I know nothing about creating apps. I even whipped up a chopped screenshot. Excellent find.

Launchers

So I've been using Go launcher ex, and like it. I've used in the past LP+, and liked it.
I was pondering on purchasing SPB shell 3D launcher after the couple of highly regarded reviews.
So I started looking at some videos of other launchers. I found Nemus launcher and Claystone launcher to look pretty cool. I tried Regina launcher after watching a video and didn't like it at all.
Would like to see other launchers others have used that they have liked or didn't like.
modded TW launcher for all devices.. MY FAvorite... one of CHoice... recommended
QQLauncher.. pretty good
MIUI LAuncher 3.1.. just like miui no app drawer dont like the style... but runs well
netfront lifescreen.. cool idea... not super useful or intuitive
he Launcher 1/ he launcher 2... can make it look like stock GB or Froyo or any flavor of sense or Touch wiz
Itching Thumbs... like web os with task switching and killing
just to name a few.... just google em... to lazy to provide links and pics... haha
I'm using Go Launcher Extreme right now and think its the best thing ever.
SPB Shell 3D is a serious waste of money. Its all eye candy with limited features and I regret buying it every time I go to the Market.
LauncherPro was nice for its time, but feels and looks outdated.
ADW is similar to LauncherPro in this regard, but the EX version shows promise.
lol i use the spb shell 3d launcher and its juuuust fine for me. smooth and fast and very cool.

Free:
Adw- great dependable launcher. Has improved so much in performance. My recommendation for free launchers. If you get into the settings this launcher will go toe to toe with any free launcher.
LauncherPro-was my launcher of choice for a very long time but its developement has slowed almost to a halt. Still probably one of the smoothest launchers on market, especially for lower end devices due to the memory settings.
GoLauncher-eye candy. Its smooth and has plenty of nice animations and has themes. But, it lacks in performance compared to some of the others. Buts it not so bad that you shouldn't give it a try. And its a Go app, so you wont have to worry about support. These guys put in work.
Payed:
LauncherPro Plus-same thing but adds ability to resize Widgets and adds some nice themeable Widgets built in.
Spb shell 3D: $15!!!! But hey, think about it this way, it basically has a handful of apps you MIGHT have otherwise payed for with a different launcher built in and integrated seamlessly. Its beautiful and its super smooth. It puts itself in memory and appears to stay there so there's never any lag. If you're a constant themer or on a ramen noodle budget , avoid this one. I personally love it (and I went in skeptical about it).
A final note: those are just the ones I've tried for any amount of time and can remember. try em all. Mess around with em. On a high end device like this you don't need to worry about which one uses a little more memory. If you had a lower end device and a launcher you tried before didn't run so well, try it again on this device. The Thrill is beast enough to run any launcher well. If the launcher doesn't run well on this phone then its just a poor app. On my Aria I had to run launcherpro to get the best performance because I could tweak its memory setting to optimize it for that device and it actually out performed adw. On the Thrill adw blows lpp away performance wise. All these are better than the stock launcher IMO.

agreed with aria. as far as loving the spb shell 3d i double agree with him lmao
go laucher +1
Seriously try the modded TW 4 launcher for all devices..

I just downloaded that SPB 3D launcher and it is QUITE sexy. It's more than I would ever need at one time (world time, weather with current temperature, recent texts in a rolo-dex form, etc) but it was quite responsive. It DOES take up more memory than some would have you believe (try 60+ megs).
Go Launcher EX seemed to be everything I wanted in a launcher. Responsive, able to customize anything, and the ability to skin widgets was very nice.
I've tried it spb launcher for free..
I suggest to download it from a torrent.. put it in your sd card, turn on airplane mode, and then play with it for a while.. see how you like it.. The reason why you turn it on airplane mode is because the android market will detect that you did not buy the item so you wont be able to use it.

Ahhh, the use of the word warez is waning. Nice to see it again. Hi warez how you been?
But, yeah, this is not a place for warez or warez guides. We develop and release open source and free only, I am sure everyone would like to keep xda as clean as possible since this is sort of our playground. No broken bottles of warez by the slidez please.
i REALLY like qq launcher, its fast ans looks more sophistiacated than the any of the others. regina is too, but it takes up a LOT of memory so its kinda laggy on the thrill.
I think the Guy who mentioned downloading spb for free was just suggesting a way to try it out so it wont be such a huge waste of money if you dont like it, as someone else had mentioned before because it is a bit expensive at $15 for a launcher
