[Q] galaxy s theme for mytouch slide - myTouch 3G Slide Themes and Apps

Im getting the new myTouch 3g slide for Christmas and I was trying to see if anyone could make me the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy theme or a rom of it for my myTouch 3g slide. All help is greatly appreciated. By the way, I'm on 12, so don't get mad if I don't understand.

just a quick 30 second scan of the development section for the slide turned up a ROM that was done back on Sept.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780611

why get the slide? get the g2

#1: Because I'm only 12 years old.
#2: Because my parents don't have that much money and can't afford the G2

In my opinion you shouldn't upgrade a phone every couple of months unless you're a developer or unless you have upgrade-A-phone-Syndrome. I think if anyone has the Slide then you should hold off until some real ground breaking phone comes out before you upgrade. The only good I can say about the G2 vs the Slide is the faster processor. Yes I am aware of the larger screen and better resolution on the G2, but is it really worth leaving the Slide behind? The Slide does a lot for a phone. I don't think we realize how far technology has come. I think we sometimes take it for granted. Do you remember before cell phones there was beepers? Do you remember getting paged and having to return that call on a near by pay phone (I'm 21 years old by the way)? The Slide can browse the internet, record video's, take pictures with LED flash (some high end phones don't even have flash), play music, download music/video's from websites, wireless tether, voice turn by turn gps navigation for free, text/call hands free (genious button) etc. A lot of other smart phones still can not do some of the things the Slide can. PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS TO OFFENSE, BUT FEEL FREE TO RESPOND IN A RESPECTABLE MANNER. ANYONE CAN RESPOND!

Some people, this may be true, but for many there are very good reasons to upgrade that have nothing to do with the "A-phone-syndrome". I'm in the process of upgrading to the G2 myself now. I waited, but now that they broke the root I just cant justify staying any longer.
If I had to say there was only one single reason, I'd say for the mass of community support. The G2 is so much newer, yet there is much more support for it already on the forums. This is very important to me.
Other things to consider:
- There are now sense ports for it, as I wouldn't buy it with vanilla.
- Basic sense has no stupid faves/faves widgets, just the original HTC favorites. Much better
- Now with overclock kernels you can run it at 1.4ghz, and I hear it runs pretty fast! The espresso still hangs a bit sometimes, and at times, long enough to annoy me.
- You have full s-off.
- True full root. With the slide, you cant modify system apps while booted normally, or even reboot through adb shell. Annoying.
- Better resolution with a bigger screen.
- More storage.
- No genius button. I've had mine remapped since I bought the phone - not a fan of the genius app. And its slow.
-I prefer the keyboard, and I only buy phones with physical boards because I use them! Otherwise I'd buy all touch. Only downside is its still not 5 row like the good ol g1, but then again neither is the espresso. Still wins out for typing speed.
-There are now mods making it so that you can use the trackball to wake/sleep the phone like on the espresso, which was about the only other thing I didnt like. Top mounted power buttons = inconvenient.
- 4G network anybody?

im also trying to find a galaxy s theme/rom for mytouch slide BUT if i never come across on/stable one ill make sure to let you know

I really think you should take your time to read around the forums and absorb more information before you start asking questions/make comment. Or simply finish reading a thread. Maybe then that will automagically make you realize that there is a link. lol.

I know, it's getting very confusing.

I actually did and there's nothing there but random roms by random developers but not the s themed

Look there is a galaxy s theme with an actual touchwiz launcher installed. Just look. If you cant find it in the dev section then your not looking.....
And these arent random roms by random people they are roms made by people that actually take time to learn and give back to the community. Just search if everyone else can find the themed rom why cant you?

Is the ClearPad2000 a reason for not buying an N1

I'm tempted to buy an N1, but I did a little research and saw here, that the Nexus One has a ClearPad 2000 which does not seem to hold the promise of a "true" multitouch mobile phone (saw the petition thread - it was funny ^^)...
But does anyone here use more than 2 fingers when using multitouch? And is it really such an annoyance or just non-sense to complain about such thing? So, if you had the chance, would you buy the Nexus One again?
This is not a thread which wants to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the N1 with any other device.
Would be nice if anyone could answer my questions...

i have an n1 and i hardly ever have problems with mulitouch ive had one for about 4 months now and ive had a problem with the screen like 2 times and all i did was try it again and it figured it out, the "problem" is nothing super noticeable
Is the ClearPad2000 a reason for not buying an N1?
no.
Is gaming a big aspect you look forward to in your phone? If so then yes it is a bit of an issue...
If you are looking for an extremely capable phone, then no - I only rarely use more than one finger on the screen, and never more than two. I have no need for such trifles :-D
If you are looking for a portable gaming platform that also can occasionally surf the internet and make calls, you might find it more of an issue. That said, I do plenty of gaming on my phone, and the only game I have an issue with is ToonWarz - but can work around that using the trackball rather than two fat thumbs on the screen.
If you buy this phone to mostly use it to play multi-touch games on, then yes it could be a reason for not buying it. Most games do work just fine though and if you were just gonna play games on your phone I would advise you to buy a handheld gaming console...
if you look back at how this whole multi touch issue was started/discovered you'll realize that it was from a game developer that wanted to put a virtual joystick and two buttons on the screen. I'm really glad he discovered the problem but games like those are rare even for gamers.
i'm not a gamer but even if i was i would assume that the n1 could hold up its own with games. so, yeah. not even a question...i would get the n1 again.
no its not an issue at all. sure some complex games would be limited, but i have yet to even see any games that are effected. of course i wish it were better so we WOULD see some cool games.
but for using the phone normally, like pinch to zoom, you wouldnt even know there was an issue. go ahead aand get the nexus.
Yes. Wait and see how deep the hacking gets on the better htc devices (incredible/evo).
If you plan on keeping the device longer than 6 months, make sure you're getting a fully functioning device.
i agree its not really an issue unless gaming. i never use more then 2 fingers only to pinch from time to time nothing else. i dont game so not required for me.

A) If you play a lot of multitouch games, yes.
B) Why do you care if you're already set on the Galaxy S (in your signature)?

O2X vs DHD which your favourite?

I would like to know to owner who have DHD and O2X..which one is your most favourite smartphone? and why you choose it?
I had both phone, and i get confusing which one is better. My O2X is better in term of speed, but i dislike its interface software, i prefer more on htc sense.
so what do you think?

of curse the 2X
i rooted the device and deleted the lg software - using Lauchner Pro and its more than smooth...
i prefer the 2X display, 'cause it is not so big and much better/more beautiful !
only the battery drain makes the angry i got a bug - app '0' causes the drain... hope lg will fix it in the next update
all in all the 2X is the best device for me, currently
Compared the 2 today, the screen on the O2X is way better, and although the dhd has a very nice unibody, both phones feel very sturdy. I don't really like sense but it's definitely better than the lg UI. Personally i always install adw/ launcherpro. Where the O2X really shines though is gaming, it just destroys the dhd. One thing i really like about the dhd is the music player, not sure if you can install it on the O2X..

Pros of the O2X vs DHD
*The screen is so much more colorful.
*Battery life is just as good or better.
*Touch screen is better(Try slowly drawing a straight line fron the upper right corner to the lower left corner on DHD. You cant, it will be wavy).
*No HTCsense.com that still doesnt work after 6 month!!(This would be a minus if it had worked).
*Gestures! Instead of those silly arrows in the bottom of the HTC stock keyboard, the tapping on the side of the O2X works great, without taking up keyboard space. Great for curser moving if you want it to be accurate.
*The curved edges of the glass screen.
*Speed in the every day use neither phones lag. Games run more smooth though. Never experienced frame drops on O2X as I sometimes did on DHD.
*Front Camera: For when ever skype comes out with video chat for android..
Better on DHD:
*Weather widget and better widgets(didnt know the setup widgets was from HTC, but LG doesnt have it)
*Disable mobile view funtion in browser settings
*Previous/next page function in browser
*Notification/Charging LED
*Native flashlight/torch app!
*15 minutes delay on the password screen(Have to do it EVERY time on the LG, or none at all).
*Very good "Auto" brightness setting on the screen!(O2X is just like the Desire, too bright when its dark).
*OTA Updated via Mobile Data also(not just wifi like O2X)
I went back and read my initial reactions from when I just got it, and they are listed here too. A funny thing that I just noticed after reading through my post is that most of the stuff I like about my O2X is hardware, and most of the stuff I miss from my DHD is software related(and most of them can be solved by downloading free apps/widgets from the market).
Im not going to count software bugs and stuff, while in the daily day life the DHD was more "stable", htcsence.com never worked and sometimes I lost ALL my text messages, so it wasnt that perfect. Between HTC and LG´s software I would reccomend HTC to newbies and people that dont like messing around with settings, trying out new apps and such.
Oh and any user interface(Sense or whatever) is inferior to Go Launcher EX imo(and other launchers). That is why I only count widgets and menu points as something that adds value. Before I tried anything else than Sense, I thought the UI was good, but in reality is not all that.
Maybe i already get use to DHD after 6 month use it and not familier to ui of lg. Anyway, thank you guys for all your review. Keep it coming.
Thanks.

most things you find better on the dhd can also be changed or made working on the o2x
allthough the software widgets made by htc are native on the phone when you buy it there are lots of good alternatives for people that dont have a htc like there is a free backlight led app in the market, and beatiful widgets has the same clock/weather widget htc has if you find a propper skin for it.
the browser issue can be fixed with a 3rd party browser(dolphin w/e) allthough native non mobile page viewing would be really nice to have in the stock browser...
there isa custom made notification light for the o2x now which can be downloaded from somehwere here aswell.
the lockscreen can be changed with 3rd party software and there is a feature to change the pw refresh rate with this aswell.
so most of the things that were better on the dhd can be good on the o2x aswell but you just need to digg around a bit and it doesnt come native once you open the freshly bought phone but it can be tuned and tweaked to have the best of 2 worlds
just like to add that my previous phone was a dhd and i made the move to the o2x the second it came out and i never missed my htc since i got my o2x.

Well, we can safely say that the IPS screen beats the Super Lcd, and hardware wise the O2x wins as well, in design too, but not in software though.
IMO: Desire HD's screen was ghosting, and it was too heavy and big.
Also i didn't like holding the O2x, badly designed by LG.

untill i get sweaty hands

Here a few point why i dislike my LGO2X..
1) its sms font is too big, difficult for me to see one long sms in single page. Its sms ui also too fancy to me..not suitable for corporate person like me.
2) its weather can not set update freq and location. I have to go to setting to update manually get current location.
3) its does not have restart option. Although many software in market, but all required to root. I dont want to root my phone since i dont want to lost my warranty, especially with reboot problem i face on O2X.
4) its camera sound during taking picture is ugly same like my old N95 phone (cheap phone).
5) its dont have data connection short cut. I have to go to
setting to activate it manually. There is software from market, but i already try all and it sometime function and not. I check setting, but data connection nothing change either i activate or deactivate the shortcut software download from market. Its look like its over write or something.
6) OTA update only available through wifi. Not mobile connection. How about if i dont have wifi in my house? But i have mobile connection data plan with my provider. Meaning this data plan is useless!! No meaning i pay my bil monthly to my provider if i can not use it to the limit!!
Thats all until now..i will edit more when i found others thing that i though. ;P

1) Just use another SMS program then, I use handcent on all my android devices anyway.
2) I agree
3) I use LG 2X recovery boot from the market to reboot my phone.
4) just goto settings/shutter sound and CHANGE it for one you like then.
5)I use apn droid to turn on/off my data.
6)OTA update is working over the air for some networks, this is just network dependent not device dependent.
My mate has the DHD and is a bit of a noob, so when I have to use his phone to find things on the web for hime I actually cringe at the speed or should I say the slowwwwwnessss of the web surfing on it. We tried miren that I use on my O2X on his DHD but it was still as slow as hell, and thats even before flash sites kick in.

Thunderbolt or LG revolution

So long story short my fascinate has turned into a thunderbolt and now I'm wondering if I should return it to get the revolution that comes out tomorrow. I took the thunderbolt right away since my favorite devs are already working on this phone, but it appears that the phone isn't very stable.
I haven't experience random reboots yet even after the phone applied a update right out of the box....I have experience some issues with the 4g staying connected although it seems to fix when I turn on and off the mobile data.
So I've already dealt with a binged phone before since I had the fascinate and that was fixed in the first month, my question is are there any other bolt users thinking the same thing after using the bolt?
My sig says no. sorry. nuh uh. nope.

Google has nothing to do with that, VZW is the reason that Bing is becoming the new search engine for their phones. Why they would do something like that is beyond all of us...
But to answer the OP post, both phones are very much alike. There is a strong dev community for the TB already, where with the LG it's questionable. I haven't read up much about it but I don't know if it comes with a locked bootloader or not. If so, TB all the way, if not, I would say it's all about your personal preference.

I know this, it just sucks they want to further ruin the Google experience by belittling it with Bing, let alone all the crapware they install on the phone.

There are 500 Million reasons.
According to the Register, Microsoft has paid Verizon Wireless $500 million in a five-year search deal to make Bing its official search engine on most smart phones, like the BlackBerry Storm II.

from what i've seen, a dev community for the revolution has been nonexistent. i can't find one anywhere
Ok, I traded the Thunderbolt for the Revolution. I do not recommend the Revolution at all. First, it takes forever to charge (its about 25% as fast as the thunderbolt to charge). The default keyboard is garbage. It doesn't have the new Android market (uses a version of the market that was updated months ago) and is missing some apps that are normally on the market (in my case, it was missing one that I had paid for). There are some compatibility issues with some apps. It also lags occasionally( often lags when ending a phone call)
The major downfall for the Thunderbolt is its battery life, but that can be fixed with rooting and installing a custom rom. The Thunderbolt is a much better Android than the Revolution. The only thing the Revolution has going for it is that it comes preloaded with Netflix.
I will be trading in the Revolution within the 2 week period and trying out a new Android. Anyone know if Verizon has a limit on how many times you can trade a phone in within 2 weeks before they cut you off. If they don't have a limit, I will keep trading it in until the Bionic finally comes out.
I simply don't understand why anyone would chose the Revo when the Thunderbolt exists. The Charge I could understand for its screen and battery, but the Revo is inferior on almost every spec. It is a phone that was released out of sequence.

Hero compared to the 3vo

Wanted to know is anyone in hero withdrawal??? And hows everyone who has upgraded enjoying the 3vo??? Cons and pros compared to hero. I chose to start this thread because if any users are due for an upgrade can get a general idea of what to expect. Also just to have some general discussion on both phones. I loved my hero it was my first android phoe before it I never knew xda existed. It all started in a sprint store when I went in to complain about how slow it was becoming and I was regretting getting the phone and since I was still under 30 days I almost swapped it for a Samsung. Then a rep pulled me to the side because I had handed him my business card the prior visit and told me have I ever heard of apps2sd. I replied no and he told me to google it. Well I went home and did just that and that's when I discovered xda and its been a blast every since. I started at 1.5 when I rooted and I've never looked back. My hero will always have a spot on my history shelf. I never knew it was possible that a little phone could do so much. And how its a whole different world on xda I mean I blew my mind on how many members were on here and that they do it all for the love. Never have I ever regretted rooting my hero and I'm glad that that sprint rep told me about apps2sd. I even went to the exact store to thank him but he was no longer there. Whish I could have showed that man the end results I think he would've been floored lol. But now getting the 3vo Im quite fond of the screen size especially because I wear glasses and I can take them off now and still read the print fine. That was one of my biggest dislikes of the hero such small print. I'm very thankful for the developer of spareparts and the rom developers for including it in most of the roms I've used. Also I like the feel of 3vo with the rubberized back the hero has hit the floor on my occasions because it lacked that feature. I like the charger port being on the side of the phone big plus IMO because it makes it easier to surff and charge at the same time. With the hero I just chose to disable the rotation because I got frustrated with having the cord in between my fingers when I wanted to surf in landscape. Also I love the fact of the 3vo's buttons on the bottom are flush and has no clicking sound. I was always afraid of to much wear and tear on the hero's button would one day catch up to me. What I don't like is the big stupid as camera button on the side I seem to activate the camera a lot and I haven't figured out a way to disable it yet. Probably can't. I liked the heros option that if you wanted the camera you had to select the camera. I love the speed of the 3vo of course. My hero was fast as hell but can't compare to it. Well that's enough for me. Any one else???
Edit: Also if ya dont mind post what apps, launcher, and themes your still using from your hero that your using on the 3vo and how they perform and your overall setup.

I'm using most of my apps from the hero on the 3vo. However, I can't use the ex explorer. Randomly locks up. Sucks. The htc_ime works on.it too, but hugs the left screen.
Over all, the transition from the hero is frustrating a little since I can't root or anything. So there are plenty of apps that I cannot use.
Make the switch if you can. I'll post the app list during lunch chow.
I love the phone and the performance, the screen size is awsome, but the phone doesn't feel bulky like my wifes OG Evo. Contrary to Laie, I don't like the charge port on the left side of the phone. Maybe I'll get used to it, but for the last 16 months or so the Hero has sat on the charger on the right armrest of my recliner, now doing that leaves a cord hanging across my body and it just doesn't feel normal sitting on the left arm rest. Not a big fan of the camera button either. It's nice to use as a shutter button, but awkward during normal phone usage. I haven't changed much about the HTC setup yet, but I've been busy setting up the Hero for my son. What I'm not fond of, being back on a sense rom are....the 7 homescreens (I generally only use 1), the goofy 3 button sense dockbar, and the fact that the apps I've spent so much time changing out the icons for use on the Hero and resigning are installing ok, but showing up with the original unchanged icons (I haven't yet investigated why, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the difference between the MDPI and HDPI displays). So the bottom line is that I'm definately pleased with the upgrade and the power of the phone, but I find myself tiptoeing out of my son's bedroom with the Hero in hand to flash something or try something new.
I have an otter box case, so I don't notice the camera button. I don't like the usb port on the side, but they have the right angle plugs you can get so it runs along the side of the phone. My hero feels so small compared to this phone. Oh, and the speed of it is crazy. I keep trying to use the trackball to move my cursor, but am slowly remembering its there. I'm still hanging around this forum to help out if I can.

I was overjoyed when I heard a rumor that the Kingdom was the code name for Hero 2. Turns out its not. I miss the smaller screen of the Hero. The 3VO is a big bad boy tho. Using Sense, Go SMS, Miren browser, Robo Defense, AndroXplorer, dropbox, sugar sync, zumo drive, audio galaxy, glow hockey, mobo player, news rob, spare parts, Verizon Fios DVR manager, and Zedge. With the extra horsepower of the 3VO I started using Pocket Casts (podcasts), My Beach lwp, music beta, ghostTown (if you're a music fan, check it out), amazon app store and album art grabber.
I bought my 3vo today, upgraded from my overclocked hero running the latest cm7 nightly. I miss the bulk in hand of the hero. The 3vo is big but doesn't fall to hand quite the same. The camera button is awkward as well as the usb placement for me.
The performance can't even be compared. The 3vo is blazing fast. Network is fast. Everything just feels instant. It's really hard to describe the difference coming from the hero. I kind of miss the physical keys and the menu unlock and the trackball. I definitely have the itch to root and flash this thing already.
In all honesty, I bought the phone out of excitement for something new. I could care less about the 3d features but would get so frustrated at watching my gf's droid x do things my phone just couldn't do. That was enough to justify the purchase. Will I keep it? I'm still not sure. I'm kind of hoping we get a couple of new offerings during the 30 day trial (SgsII, kingdom, photon) but overall I'm pleased at the performance.
I think I'm going to purchase a case (something I never did with the Hero) just to add to feel in hand. I'm definitely going to miss the hero, and will keep it around, but it was just beyond dated.

The flashing urge is not quite as bad for me.....I do still have a pair of Nooks, an OG Evo, the Optimus, and the Hero in my care, but yeah.....the Hero's still my favorite even with the tiny little screen and the silver paint worn off of all the buttons and the menu button that doesn't actually press down anymore.

Totally agreed. I love my hero but I was looking forward to something new. And I couldn't pass up a dual core with 3d. I love my hero but I don't regret the change at all.

Turned mine off on Friday, Haven't turned it back on. I got burnt out on having to always set everything back up after flashing a new ROM, that I finally stuck with each ROM for months at a time. All I really want is custom kernels and free hotspot and usb tethering.
It's funny you are posting this in the Hero forums. What are you trying to do? Make them all jealous!
Changed my mind.....I'm taking mine back. Can't take the stupidity in those forums, it's even worse then the Nook forums. Some guy just posted a month old link to a post that says HTC will unlock the bootloader.....Geez we didn't know
I am not getting the 3vo until august but from what I saw at the sprint store when I tried it was: THEY MADE SENSE MORE BLOATED!!! D:
I personally think that I won't be getting it until I can root/flash it before I even get home from the sprint store. >.<
I have gotten so used to not using Sense that I genuinely hate it with a passion now, so much freaking bloatware.

There's other sites besides XDA, but most good devs are on XDA, and some of the other sites just link you back here for ROMs. Just do what I do. Don't go to General or click a thread that doesn't look good.

Every HTC phone is going to have a lot of bloat. But even with all the bloat the phone is running smooth as can be. It doesn't slow it down at all. You could put ADW or LP on it and it will run 1000 times better than the Hero.

Yes google Amazon app store. Its great! They offer one free paid app a day. That is how I found pocket cast.
Ghosttown, very awesome. It takes videos from youtube and streams the audio to your phone, pretty good quality too. If you search by artist it will organize all the songs by albums, given if the video exists on youtube. Tried with the Hero and it was very choppy. Works great on 3G with the 3VO.
So happy with the phone. I have a wireless N router at home where my 4G signal is kinda weak and the phone is N compatible. 4G is strong at my work.
3VO = #WINNING![/QUOTE]

Trackball nostalgia

Despite the fact that it's been roughly 3 years ago we were gifted by the miracle we know as android, there has been a major paradigm shift in design among phone manufacturers; gone are the days of the once mandatory, perpetually useful, but seemingly redundant trackball.
My first smartphone was an HTC Droid Eris; although I have a much better, faster phone now, I miss the convenience of having the trackball for scrolling through web pages, photo albums, and long lists of contacts or Facebook friends.
This is a tribute to the trackball, and a call to those who design our future lifelines: offer a high quality phone with a trackball again - it is a convenient feature that takes up next to no physical space.
Please contribute to this discussion in whatever way you see fit, hopefully there are others who miss the trackball...

I miss the trackball sometimes.

The trackball is a tool that I think you a lot more streamlined.
For some, however, does not like, depends on the tastes!
.... I like it!
I still have one... Unfortunately I can only dream of a fancy new android so am stuck with the very old HTC hero.
Still runs alright though with an OC and villainrom.
Gonna save my pennies for the HTC One S
Anyway back on topic. I don't use the trackball often but it is useful every once and a while. Great for stopping in the right spot in an e-mail to modify an error or add some text.
Its nice having the trackball to be able to pinpoint exaxt locations in text boxes or select links in webpages with very small text. Both of the smartphones that I have owned have had trackballs (G1 and Nexus One). I'm looking for something a bit newer (leaning towards an Atrix at the moment) and it looks like I will be hard-pressed to find another with a trackball.
My first track ball was on a Blackberry Pearl, and it was great, especially since I could change the LED's and make the thing light up different colors...
But yes, I miss the trackball, mostly for when I'm trying to correct text. It's a big pain in the ass when I have to tap my screen like a moron to get at my sentence.
I also miss a hardware keyboard too.... oh G1, come back to me...
Larger touch screens and improved response took away the need of the trackball completely.
I think the implementation was rather poor on the G1. It was not made for speedy selection so much as for precision.
Not really missing it much...
Well they brought the S-Pen (aka advance stylus) back in my GNote, maybe you'll see the trackball again someday.
remember when we thought all Google phones would have a track ball and the forward hump?

Ahhh... The track ball....
Had it on G1 and I liked it. My first Android phone and the first one with track ball. I remember that it was weird at first but after some time, you get used to it.
G1 really was something else at the time.
They support the mouseover event in webpages in Opera, with only a touchscreen there is no way to hover over an element. Physical arrow keys also work for many of the things you could do with a trackball and I never noticed how much I use the arrow keys on my Droid 3 until I go to a phone without a keyboard.
