[Q] How can I turn my phone on? - Serious Problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
No other expression can describe mine right now.
I was trying to flash I9000XWJM9 using Odin. The instruction was to first tick the 'Re-partition', 'Auto Reboot', and 'F. Reset Time'. Next, I load the 512.pit file, and start flashing as instructed. Here's my mistake. When the phone turned off, and I saw Odin display 'Pass', I thought that it is safe to remove the battery, so I eagerly removed it. Then only I realized that I should wait for the phone to display something related to reset.
Now, my phone can't be turned on in any way. I tried to plug the charger to see if there's any battery indicator for charging, but nothing happen.
I'm trembling with anger at myself for being hasty, and also for the phone that might just be a brick soon.
What should I do now??
HELP!
Here's the tutorial from XDA that I followed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802909

Its not a serious problem
Take out the battery for few minutes, open Odin select PDA/modem/CSC (I9000XWJM9) and pit 512 **Try with Repartition Unchecked**
Insert battery and press Volume down+Home+Power until download mode is available, connect the cable and it will show colored in 1st box of Odin (Comm), just press start

I will try that and see what will happen.
Thank you.

Nope, not turning on...
I tried every possible button combination.
Vol Up+Home+Power, Vol Down+Home+Power, Vol Up+Vol Down+ Home+Power, Vol Up+Power, Vol Down+Power, and of course, Power button for a minute.
Getting despair and regretted of flashing the firmware...

After quite a few hours from removing the battery and putting it back, and tried to turn on the phone, nothing happen. Can't even go into download mode or recovery mode.
Is my phone totally bricked?

Yes, the phone can be turned on now. After I charged it for 15 minutes, then I tried to turn on using download mode, and it works. Thanks nasgilani!
I'm so relieved! Ok, back to flashing lol!

[Q] Phone will not power on after failed Odin restore

I decided to upgrade to Cog2.2beta5 from Cog2.1.4 today using ROM Manager. Everything seemed to go well but after install and reboot all I got was a black screen and subsequent reboots landed me at the same result.
So I thought restoring back to stock with Odin One Click from this forum, the one with all the ROM files built right in, was the best next step. I downloaded Odin and followed the instruction to the T and it got stuck at the PIT step. After a few attempts at it now my phone won't even power on. I've let it sit without a battery in for several minutes and even charged it on a wall charger for 30 minutes just to make sure it wasn't a dead battery. Still won't power on or respond at all.
I'm fairly new to all of this... Any ideas on what would cause a total melt down of the phone to the point of not even powering on? It has been flawless for me since launch.
Didi you download the drivers? also did you unplug the phone while doing the flash>/
pull battery sim and sd if you have one
Wait a minutes or so
plug in USB
hold vol up and down
put in battery
If the phone does not immediately go to download mode, you have a fancy paper weight that doesn't even weigh that much.

I did download the drivers and from everything I could see, my system and Odin recognized the phone without issue.
I had to unplug it during the process because the process froze in the same spot for well over an hour. I didn't see any other choice.

Guess it's a paper weight then because the phone won't power up at all let alone go into download mode.
Thanks for your time guys.
sounds like you might have done exactly what i did with my first captivate and yes it IS bricked! i know you will read "its impossible" to do that but i "thought" i followed the correct steps and flashed only a pit file. what it does is repartition your file system but apparently nothing is added after that...
not sure what steps you took on odin but it sounds like you got the same error i did and then the same issue so im going to assume the same thing has happened here...sorry matey

I had mine hosed for a while and this is what I did to get it back.
When it is unplugged and everything is out of the phone (sd, sim, batt) , hold the power button down for 10 sec, then release.
Put in battery, hold vol up + vol dwn, Plug into different usb port, Plug into phone.
That should get you into download mode
Mine did this too and the steps mentioned fixed it for me

I too accidently only wrote the pit file and it wouldn't do anything at all just blank screen . Make sure you remove everything open Odin one click, plug in your phone with the USB cable, hold down volume up and down and plug in battery it should start in download mode. It does work.

2. Plug in your usb cable to your phone and computer
3. Open Odin
4. Enter Download Mode (see below)
5. Click Start
6. Be Patient, the first boot will take a while
where can i find the odin logs?

[Q] Flashing to Froyo Issue

My Phone: Stock Eclair 2.1 JH7 update Build 1006
(amazingly no GPS or shutdown issues)
Rooted
Voodoo Lagfix
That's It.
I read alot on here about upgrading to Froyo, regarding having to un-root and stopping lag fix. I could not figure out how to stop lagfix, which I figured I had to be rooted to do so, so I just didn't un-root either. So my mistake I just said F-It and started Kies Mini and plugged in my phone. My firmware updated and my phone rebooted, however it gets to the Galaxy S screen, and instead of booting up my screen goes black and nothing happens, like it shuts off. So, what should I do from here, as this is my only phone, and I don't have readily available access to a computer.
get to the download mode and reflash to stock using odin.
well that's what I was thinking of doing, however. it seems I can only boot into recovery mode. Vol. Down button and Power button. The three button combo seems to do nothing for me, don't know why. So how do I get into Download mode? My first phone WAS the three button combo.

the key combo may not work on certain build phone. if it happens to your phone, you have to build a jig yourself or buy one (i can send you one, PM me).

fire up ODIN 1-CLICK
connect USB to Computer
remove battery from phone
replace battery
hold down both volume buttons
insert micro USB into phone

Well I sure do appreciate that offer. Vol. Up & Vol. Down button with ODIN open and Then plugging in USB got me to download mode. heh I pushed Master Clear, so we'll see what happens.
THANKS!
I figured that out right before you posted it! you Canadians are alright. lol
I would give you a thanks, but I can't find the button for you!

Been about 15 mins since hitting Master Clear phone still says Downloading... Do not turn off target. I forget, having only flashed once to the leaked, does it usually take this long?

you cannot be in the download mode if you just want to do a master clear. boot the phone normally, enable the debug mode and do the master clear using odin there.
No it shouldn't. Another thing that helped was to install the driver package that is included in the Original Post for 1-click. If that still doesn't work after 5 or so minutes, unplug and try again, but this time just go for the ROM flash. You should see the blue status bar moving on the phone. I had the same issue. This took me a few tries.
well odin now says Removed! like i'm supposed to celebrate. phone still says downloading.. lol I guess I should have hit START instead.
Thanks so much clemmie. phone is back to stock you can master clear in download mode, just takes 20 mins. lol I hit start instead and it put me back to the stock jf6. now time to get froyo wee! thanks alot guys, thread can be closed and deleted if you would like.

[Q] I think I bricked my Captivate flashing Serendipity

I had Cognition 4 flashed but had a problem that whenever the battery was removed when the phone was on, about half of my apps, wifi, and texting would force close on reboot and never be able to open until I reflashed Cogntion. Because of this, I decided to try Serendipity VII. I put the zip file on my phone, rebooted into recovery, then tried to do the same thing that I did for Cognition. When I did this it said that it was installing, then said install complete without rebooting. I decided to reboot the phone, and when I tried, it keeps looping on the att screen. I do not see the battery charge signal when I plug it in. I see a loading gear for the battery for about five seconds, then the screen has electric looking blue lines flash through the center and then nothing. I cannot boot into recovery or download, it just keeps looping on the ATT screen.
Make or buy a jig to force it into download mode.

How do I force it into download mode?
So you tried flashing a GB rom without first flashing GB bootloaders?
You should have read and followed the installation instructions on the Serendipity download page. Start Odin one click, see if you can get phone into download mode by any combo and see if Odin sees it. Flash stock and start again.
*If you're not on Gingerbread, you should be shot*

Ya, I had a feeling I should have read more about it, but I was anxious and stupid. I didn't do any of those things. No matter what I try I can't get to recovery. How would I get into download?
JIG

Thanks for all the help, I will be buying a jig from amazon for about ten bucks. I hope this works. But if it doesn't, at least this will teach me to read instructions before doing something that I don't understand very well.
to get into download mode press volume down instead of volume up to get u into recovery, at first i screwed up too somewhat like you so what i did is removed the battery for a minute, put it back in press volume down middle and power button to get into download then use odin to flash a new 2.3.4 gingerbread that u can get from this forum just look through and ull find it, make sure u put the pit file phone file, pda and csc files and make sure u check the repartition auto reboot and freset time checked on then press start hope it helped

Sir try this one last thing, remove your USB Cable from your PC, remove your battery...
While holding down both (Up and Down) volume buttons, insert the battery and THEN connect your phone to your PC through USB, see if this puts it into Download mode.
If not, try doing the same just holding down the DOWN volume button. Hope this helps, it seems as if these combinations kind of vary from phone to phone. Cheers

I tried this and all it did was do the att loop screen thing. Also, my computer dinged that it saw a usb device being plugged in, but then the restart loop restarts the phone and continues this indefinitely. Thanks for the help anyway.
You don't need to buy a jig, just go do that thing where you get three (or four) resistors in series that totals 301k ohms and touch them to specific contacts in the usb port of your phone... look it up on xda, it's worked for most people.

Thanks, but I already screwed up my phone by doing something that I did not fully understand, it's a small wonder that I can use Linux and not be too confused. I think I will take the easy way out with this one.
Hmm I remember that often when I tried to put my phone into recovery mode or download, whenever I held the Power Button down, it would just keep looping. When you but the battery on and connect your phone, make sure you are not holding the Power button, just the volume ones. Perhaps it is your case?

It loops if whether or not I hold any buttons down. If I hold the power button down while trying to get into download mode, then it just turns it off.
Turn off the phone, remove the battery, get a stock odin one click for the captivate.
I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0 seems to be a reliable flash when I run into trouble.
Start odin, plug the phone into the USB cable, hold the volume up/down key or try any combination up/down or both. Insert the battery and hopefully it will go into download mode.
Been reliable so far...
Hi. I'm unable to get into recovery mode after I flashed the Talon kernel as per the instructions here.
http://www.team-continuum.net/forum...ses/(guide)general-installation-instructions/
I'm consistently able to get into download mode and reflashed the talon 0.1.2 kernel as per the instructions there, but still to no avail. Any other suggestions to get my phone into CWM ?
Im trying to flash Continuum 6
Might as well get the Jig easy Download mode xD. I made mine myself cost a whole $2.50 for one xD

[Q] bricked tab after odin "success" message

i've tried to flash my tab using odin and overcome stock safe (first step on their guide). everything went ok in odin, got a green success message. but now, my tab won't turn on or do anything at all. the only response I get is after pressing the turn-on button and then the screen sort of lights up but nothing else.
Have you tried reentering download mode and flash again?
Maybe first time you did something wrong and now have to reflash a stock rom. See "How to unbrick" threads for details
hey

Try getting into recovery, DO wipe/factory reset, clear cache, reboot... (search how to do it, can tell you, but better U search and find out)
can't do that either. I tried power button + vol up / down combo, but all i get is a backlit screen that turns off the second i release the power button
edit: not sure if its a regular brick, but what happens is this: I press the power button for about 3 seconds, the back light goes on but that's it. if i leave the button the light goes off
Does your PC recognize the Tab in that condition, if yes, connect thru Odin and flash again or try flashing overcome kernel atleast..
nope i've tried to connect it using USB but got no connection
Is your Tab fully charged ?? Try to charge it for a couple of hours and if it turns on, enter the download mode and try again. But please make sure to charge the tab.....just in case.
Good luck
yes, it was fully charged. anyway, i was able to open it up, unplug and replug the battery, but now it does nothing. doesn't light up, doesn't respond to charging or connecting to PC

Question Tried Factory Reset from Standard Recovery Screen

Holding Power & Volume Down beginning screen says Bootloader Unlocked Cannot Be trusted and then goes to Android Recovery. Tried to Factory Data reset several times, but keeps coming back to Bootloader Unlocked. I can not even tell if I am over charging or if it is charged at all. Can I get Samsung files from Samsung site to download? Which ones do you think would be best course. I just want it to be factory data reset. HELP! My recovery screen pics are attached.

Why are you holding vol down? Holding vol down and power is the method used to boot to recovery. And once the bootloader is unlocked you will always get the nag screen saying it is unsafe. Ignore it. What happens if you just push the power button WITHOUT pushing vol down?

Then you need to boot to download mode, not recovery. Plug the USB cable into a PC and not the tablet. Turn the tablet off. Then, while holding both vol down and vol up, plug the cable into the tablet. You can download the latest firmware using frija.exe. Flash the firmware using Odin on the PC.

I was able to successfully download the firmware and flashed it with odin. The only problem now is odin indicates PASS! in green on PC and seems to be finished, but the odin screen on PC has not closed. The tablet downloading screen remains open with the progress bar all the way at the end. Should I hit exit or reset on odin on PC or alternatively select AutoStart in options?

I don't know. The Odin screen remaining open is normal. But, unless you unchecked the auto-reboot in Odin options, the tablet should have rebooted when it finished flashing. If it doesn't, I guess the only thing you can do is manually reboot the tablet by holding vol down and power for about 7 seconds.

I did uncheck the auto-reboot which the directions I had said to do so. So I just let it sit there for about 6-7 hours plugged into PC. I figured then there was no way it wasn't done installing so i unplugged from PC. After like 5 minutes or so the tablet came on with the beginning screen for setting up tablet. Now I just have to figure how much crap I really need on it. I wish I could get rid of Samsung Flow so I could use the tablet for Fan Duel. Thanks for your help. Have a good weekend.
