Very nice !
A couple of thoughts:
* buy a cheap silicon skin to protect the back and edges of the plastic body: this would require you to increase the size of your alloy brackets, but the rubbery grip would make the Tab much more secure in the stand cradle.
* get rid of this awful useless screen protector (Gorilla glass is tough enough, and the silicon skin would prevent the alloy brackets to touch the display anyway)
Keep up the good work, and let us know about your incremental improvements / design revisions !

I got one of these at office max. Works both landscape and portrait.

And the picture frame easel mentioned above works well for travel.
But what you made has some sweet style.

I really like this stand. I have one of those leather cases with a built-in stand, but id like something like this as well. Or a more portable, possibly folding version of the mesh card holder. Looks great so far though!

here's mine, using a plastic SGT back cover, an old book end, and some good old Velcro tape! Took about $5 and 5 minutes to put together.

Man, I bet if i made one like this it would break when watching something and break the tab

Might want to think about doing a patent on your idea....looks great though

Velcro is pretty strong (read an article before where they wanted to use it in place of blots for building lightelweiht planes) ,you might even have trouble prying it off the stand! been using it everyday and the tab has never fallen off. if I feel like the Velcro is loosing grip, I can just replace it for $1.

where did you buy the plastic SGT back cover? Wondering how to find one...

Looking for: Cover for the white trim

Im looking for ideas on covering up the white trim.
I figured there may be a decal type of offering for the phone where i can put a sticker type thing to go over the black but haven't come across such a thing.
Or any ideas for successfully painting over it? =)
I'd really prefer a sticker though.
I don't want to use a case.

if you really don't want a case and can't find a sticker, make your own sticker...
Any ideas on what type to use/where to get?

No sorry it was just an idea, plus i live in Australia so i doubt any local shops going to be very helpful.

There are available in a wide range of colours, i just want a hi-viz one for traipsing about in the wilderness.
Yeah I have seen those around too, I was thinking about getting one myself.
There is one thing I thought odd, why is the battery door lock exposed?
You cant open the door unless the gel is taken off first anyway. Just a thought and not a show stopper for me.
That is a very good question.
It may be that they are designed using a pre-release non-functioning dummy phone so they try to leave all ' functions' accessable without knowing what that actually are.

yeah mate I think they are referred to as that - rubbery plastic - i always refer to them as gel cases. Its not that crappy sticky silicon rubbish
Yeah we refer to the silicon ones as gel skins here. The tpu we call tpu lol. Does yours have cut outs for the buttons? Or are they covered? If they are covered how hard is it to press?
Sent from my DEFY using XDA app
I have the amzer tpu case as well. It covers the buttons on the side, but not the wake/sleep button. The volume buttons are harder to press then I would like, but not unmanagable, and I don't use them much.

Handmade padded pouch/sleeve

Found a simple padded zip pouch. I'm still gonna get the official ASUS smart cover as well, but wanted a travel pouch to throw on the passenger seat and to put in my messenger bag. Also glad my money is going to an actual person and not some crap Belkin company that over charges for garbage.

Looks great! Thanks I think I'm going to order one!
Just ordered! Case looks really nice is exactly what I'm looking for. I like the feel of the tablet alone and not some clunky trifecta-folding-triangle that you can put your pens and credit cards in. This + a screen protector = all you should need!
Thanks for link!!

Looks like the perfect case to hold you over until you find something you want.
The Snupped ones seem pretty cool, but I'm not sure about having to ship it over from Singapore. The first Etsy post was not bad either. I'm wondering if groups like Byrd & Bell (wool + leather) will start making them for the Nexus 7, but they do have one for the Kindle Fire (which would probably fit). The only thing is that it's pretty expensive for a sleeve ($48).

I think this was originally a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus case, however despite the slight difference in height, it fits perfectly.

DYI case: best of both worlds?

Hi all
Not happy with any of the Nexus 7 cases I had tried so far I decided to do some tinkering.
/* WHAT YOU NEED */
a) a cheap smart-cover case with good functionality. I really like the following one but thought it didn't protect the Nexus 7 edges enough.

"lightbox_next": "Next",

}
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310450570970?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
b) a good TPU/silicone case that offers all-round protection (apart from the screen). I first tried a cheaper one but it was quite loose.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150896669042?var=450114078159&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
c) some thin double-sided tape.
/* TINKERING */
1) remove the "insert" from the smart-cover case (attachment 1 and 2). I used a Stanley knife and some gentle brute-force. :silly:
2) place double-sided tape where the insert was (attachement 3).
3) stick the TPU case inside the smart-cover one (other attachements).
4) done!
this is great. I wish a company would create something like this professionally. I too like the corner protection of the tpu. the TPU material obsorbs the impact when the tablet hits the ground. I have tpu cases on my other devices and they have been saved by the tpu case. But the tpu case doesn't offer much of screen protection outside of you buying a screen protector. The smart case idea is perfect. It protects the screen and double protects the back. you can use it to hold up your tablet. I really like what you did.
I did something like this for my acer a500 and might do this for the N7 as well.
thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome, and thanks for the positive feedback.
Great idea. I always thought that the protection for those that have the flap was pretty bad too but I never thought of combining to together. Now...to find one that looks good to use.
I never thought to do this. I have a tpu skin on mine now and ordered a smart cover case to use. But the poetic slimline case ... I wonder if no can just detach the smart cover part off that and super glue it to the tpu skin .... Hmmmmm

Cool idea, particularly because I'd thought of doing this too
My other idea is to use a similar TPI or hardback case stuck to a car mount to create a smart looking in-car solution rather than using one of those universal adjustable types.

rooCASE Google Slim-Fit Folio Case Cover

This case is pretty awesome. I ordered off of Amazon for 1 cent plus $4.99 shipping.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AEENZNQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Here are some photo's I took of it:
It's a compact design that is practically the same size as the Nexus 10

It has the magnetic system for waking and sleeping the device.
Nothing is blocked.... the ports, the speakers, and the camera are all exposed.
Slip your hand under the elastic strap in the back to make one handed operation possible
To use it as a stand, this is how you are supposed to do it, but I can't bring myself to bend it at the crease in the back.
So at this point, I am using it as a stand like this:

Looks good! The only thing I don't like is the stylus loop, not gonna ever be getting a stylus and feel any case with the loop detracts from the overall clean lines of a case!

No stylus for myself either. A person with a steady hand and an exacto or utility knife would be able to remove that loop without hardly a trace of it ever being there.

What lanyard strap will you use?

Firstly, let me congratulate Sony for allowing a lanyard to be attached! My Galaxy note doesn't have a lanyard hole and neither did my last Desire Z, Desire or HD2.
They are sooo useful for getting phones out of pockets by the strap, using the phone one handed or of course preventing the phone slipping out of your hand. And believe it or not, the Xperia Z having one was a major reason in me buying it!
Anyway, does anyone have plans on getting a particular strap?
On amazon, some reviews of cheap ones mentioned them breaking, so I'm thinking of using a wii controller strap which may match my white Z quite well.
I'm very pleased to see it too. It's a great little feature - i have no idea why it disappeared from the market. I'm going to use the one that Sony provided with PSP - maybe something better if you guys find something worth recommending
The Wii strap is a great idea for a wrist lanyard
If I want a neck lanyard for any reason, I'll probably just use the one my work ID badge hangs on.
R: What lanyard strap will you use?
I don't understand why they didn't put one in the box.. It's a very cheap optional.

Lanyard straps are a very Japanese thing to use. I love them and this is another small thing that make the XZ a great phone.

I second the Wii remote strap recommendation. Been using it with my Note 2.
Using these ones:

the lanyard option definitive sold me over. will be perfect for this summer. I do alot of boating, and killed a couple of phones at sea, usually intoxicated .
now I can fall in the sea with the phone in my pocket without killing it. also fitting a flotation device with the lanyard strap makes sure that it dont go to the bottom of the sea...
after the Xperia V i will never go back to a non-waterproof phone..
