Handscent SMS Sound Different To Application Setup - Desire HD Themes and Apps

Morning, I've only experienced this on my Desire HD so was wondering if anyone has come across this as well.
I use Handscent SMS as IMO it's does what I like it to do, have set up a custom sound in the application settings for received messages but it does not play this when I receive an SMS, it seems to play ths sound that I think the standard Messages app uses.
Do I have to force uninstall this app first before Handscent will start working like I want it to. I did the same setup on my standard Desire and never had any issues wiht the wrong sound being played.
My Desire HD is rooted running LeeDroid v1.2 HD
Thanks in advance

Hello,
Please try the following : Messeges > Menu > Settings > Set the notification sound.
Hopefully this should work, also if you want notification by sound when you send a SMS you must check box under Sent notification - show notifiction in status bar.

That seems to have worked, Thanks

Issue with double notification sound...

I get a double notification sound every time i get a text message. The first sound is the one i chose in handcent. The second sound occures 1 second after the first, and its the default notification sound("look at me").
Ive tried unchecking everything in the default messaging app. Ive tried going into settings>sound& display> notification ringtone> silent. Restarting phone after setting these things. And still no fix. I still get the double notification sounds. The 1st i want. The second default sound doesnt go away.
Before I made this thread i did research around the web about this and tried every suggestion. I still have the problem.
Any other suggestions?
also: my phone is not rooted
Wow. Never heard of that... I really don't know what to say.
Root.
Go to messaging app, settings, then just UNCHECK notifications. That should be it. I've had tons of Android phones and use all kinds of 3rd party SMS app, and have no issues.
Make sure you don't have some other SMS app or message notification app also running giving notifications. (missed call, sms popup, chompsms, trackball alert, sms count widget, etc..)

Yeah "nothing" is checked in the default messaging app.
I tried to install chomp to see if it was handcent and it did it with chomp too.
Edit: I found the issue!
Thanks for suggesting about looking for any app that had anything to do with messaging or ringer tones. It was a rarely used app i have called "ringo pro"
I changed the appropriate settings and now everything is fine.
Thank you

Cool you found a workaround, never had trouble myself. BTW, were you changing the notification sound in the messaging app or just in overall settings?
Got the same problem, also can't turn off the usb debugging mode and change most of settings. Looks like it appeared after I enabled sideloading and removed Start-Up Sound and some att apps.
I am on JH7, rooted, enabled non market apps.
Can anyone help?
Did you try to change the notification sounds within the app itself? Open SMS, hit menu, settings or options, then notification. Same with email.

Email Notification Sound

okay this maybe a dumb question but its sure is annoying. Whenever i get an email the phone led light start to blink and the Email Notification Sound play like it should, but after 10 minutes it plays again and again. Like if i don't touch the phone it will ding every 10 minutes.
Its not an event reminder or alarm as email sounds are very different then anything else and only happens when i don't touch my phone. Like i got an email late last night and it kept dinging all night long until i unlocked the phone and cleared the notification.
Its super annoying, It just play the email notification sound and then let the led blink for 10 minutes but not play notification sound sound every 10 minutes.
Does anyone know how to stop this?

Open you HTC mail client (app drawer and select Mail), hit the menu button > More > Settings (then select your email account) > Notification settings
Now you can uncheck Notification sound
Will it still ding when i first receive the email, I want the sound to play the first time but not every 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, this will take out the sound altogether.
yeah thats what i thought, you guys don't find this weird about the phone?
not sure about the native HTC email program.. but here's how to achieved what you're after using GMAIL appz
/ open up Gmail
/ menu button
/ More-->>Settings-->> Account Settings-->> [email protected]
/ Scroll down to "Labels to notify"
/ select "inbox" then a pop up notification settings box will appear
/ There is an option at the bottom for "notify once"
That will do it
when a new email arrived... you'll get a notification... you get to choose to have SOUNDS/VIBRATE...etc
and subsequence mail arrival won't have any more sounds
Just curious what ROM you're running that's giving you this issue?
Sent from my HTC Vivid 4G using xda premium
I sent an e-mail to my G-Mail account. When it came it, I left it alone to see what would happen. As described in another post, the alert sound occurred only one time. The LED flashed for a while but eventually stopped. I confirmed that the G-Mails allowed a once only notification.
I have had situations occur, but not always, where I will get alerts from both G-Mail and the native HTC e-mail app. However, it did not occur this time. So, I can't say for now what the native e-mail account will do.
I'm running stock ROM and have not had consistent email notifications. I have it set to sound every time I receive an email. But I may hear it only once for several emails and then once for every email received. I may also get a sound for emails that I don't seem to have received.
Just one of those things.
I'm running stock rom and using the native htc email app
Not to mention, it gets frustrating after habitually only reading the SMS from the lockscreen notification.

Changing it is specific to the application you are using. Check the settings for the application in question. I'm using the Gmail app. The settings for each account has an area for changing the sound and frequency.
Was this issue solved?

For a regular (non-gmail) account (which uses the stock Mail app), I could not find where to set it's specific notification sound... BUT, everything else has its own notification sound setting (GMail, WhatsApp, Text Messaging), so I just go into phone Settings, Sound, and pick a notification sound there (which will play when I get an email in my regular mail). All the other apps have their own sounds assigned, so I guess technically, my Mail has its own sound.
It is under personalize click the sound tab email is there

SNAP. That is so simple. I suck. LOL
Also under the mail app you need to go under settings notification and check the box that says play sounds too

No one??
are you sure you haven't disabled them in the app? also might want to check settings - apps - and see if you have accidentally disabled the show notifications option

^Make sure that you've ticked "Notifications" under Settings.
Also, several third party apps like GoSMS (even Hangouts) may interfere with the stock SMS notifications and can disable them. So try to disable/uninstall them and see if that does the trick.
Tried uninstalling all other apps , no luck
Finally called Sony support and got it resolved. Had to repair the software using the PC companion software installed on PC
Some minor corruption in the OS

[Q] Anyone figure out how to set custom SMS sound?

I changed my custom SMS sound to the short laser SMS I always use. Under settings, it says that is my notification sound. I'm still getting Skyline from all my contacts unless I go in and manually set each contact to the custom SMS. Workaround for this? Messaging has been the most annoying part of the phone for me.
Disregard, I found it under settings have to set general and new to the custom sound.
