[Q] Some help please - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I am new here...Hi! Wondering if you can help me out? I am new to to Windows Phone software (a recent Apple convert!) and am struggling a little with a couple of things:
1 - Getting the phone to appear on my computer as an external device so i can just drop some videos on to it, i have sync'd the phone to no avail!?
2 - Getting previous digital copies of films which were put onto my external HDD through iTunes, when i view them in my computer they show up with the Zune logo, then when you try to play them, it says cannot play, burn or sync this protected file code - C00D11E7. But Zune says it accepts .m4v files?!
Thanks in advance for you help!
Scott.

1 - You cannot use it as an external device. You can sync photos, videos, songs through Zune. Just open Zune, let it access the folders where you keep the stuff u want it to sync into your phone. Then through the contents, drag folders or files you want into the phone logo at the bottom left hand corner and it will sync in. The reason they do this is to minimise risks of virus or things to get into your phone I guess.
2 - Dunno about iTunes files as not an Apple fan. but i have been syncing videos in to my HD7 with no problems. I guess maybe your vids are locked by iTunes only to be played by Apple apps?

Help with audio/video files etc... on diamond 2

Hi! I am new to this forums and i am new in windows mobile. Before i had a symbian phone so i was very familiar with symbian and now with windows mobile i am completly lost. I need help regarding avdio and video files. I have put a music files on a 8 gb card, i created folder MUSIC. Now if i want to play that files i have to use file explorer and search for that file and then play it. How can i acces it from built in avdio player? or how can i use it as a ring tone? I dont want to put it on phone memory so is it any way to play it from SD card? I also have a hard time installing anything, i dont know how. Does it ask you on which memory to put aplications on before installing? Symbian was so easy... But anyway i like this phone And one more thing, can i create folder and put games and other aplications, avdio/video files on just like in symbian?
Thanks for all your help, i know it is a long post, but i have many more questions for you

I had also multiple Symbian S60 phones but now i have my 4th Win Mobile device and i dont want to go back to Symbian, its to buggie and to slow (at least the last time i had one).
Even the desktop software from Nokia is very slow.
I will try to help you love your WM6.1 device!!
To play videofiles (I) use CorePlayer: http://coreplayer.com/
For converting your videos to play them on your TD2 (I) use PocketDivxEncoder: http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm
You can put audio and video files on your storagecard, Windows Media Player can search your device (through Library) and then you dont need to look them up throught File Explorer, WMP cannot play avi and divx, use CorePlayer.
With CorePlayer you can search your device, next time you want to open a new video or song it will open in the same location.
If you want the album cover to be displayed in Windows Media Player and/or the TouchFlo3d player, copy the cover (jpg) to the folder where the album is en rename it to folder.jpg (make it a square picture).
Every time you add new songs you will need WMP to search your device again otherwise you can only play then over File Explorer.
To use your audio files for ringtones you need to put them on your device in My Documents\My Ringtones\ or you need a registrysetting.
If you use the registry setting your media player wil also find all ringtones, maybe you like it, i don't.
But how can i install core player and other apps and games? Do i have to put files in specific folder or just on a sd card and then delete the files? and does it ask you where to install it? phone or sd? I am really completly lost it was really easy on symbian devices but on winmo it seems hard, but then again i might be wrong. I am waiting for a official 6.5 winmo from HTC, hope it arrives soon and i hope that app"s and games will be compatible with older winmo"s. Will you be able to create folders on winmo 6.5? For now i dont want to "pimp" my phone too much cause i will have to reinstall everything later, i just want to get familliar with installing games, apps, themes...
Does the phone alarm ring when the phone is off? It didn"t in the morning... Is there a setting to make it work?

It's easy as long as you know what to do!
When you download apps for your phone, they will usually in be a .cab file. You just copy this file to your SD card, then use the phones file explorer to find and click it.
It will then probably warn you about the app not being certified, it's up to you if you want to trust the source you downloaded from.
After that, you will be asked if you want to install on card or phone memory.
The original .cab file can be deleted from the SD card after the installation is complete.

Wrong topic, this one is about Audio and Video files as far as i have read.
But to answer your question, No, when the phone is off, it's off and it stays off until you turn it on.

Import iTunes library to my Captivate

Hi,
I am avid reader of these forums, and finally pulled the trigger and got the Samsung Captivate (I had to stick with AT&T). I am relatively new to Android, and I was stunned but what I got with my Captivate!! (all due respect to my old beloved Tilt with WiMo). To think I was seriously considering iPhone 4
Anyway, I am yet to root the phone - will wait a few more days to get comfortable. For now I have been playing with a ton of apps etc.
I have a 100 GB iTunes Library which sits on my home server. I am looking for a solution where I can selectively sync certain albums and playlists to my phone. No point in carrying around 2 devices. I have already tried Double Twist. The problem is I need to install the client on my Laptop and get the music synced from the home server. I have got this working by manually adding 1 folder at a time - which is cumbersome, and not to mention that I loose artwork, ratings etc.
So, I am looking to [Home Server] <--> [Laptop] <--> [Phone]. At any point the source for this library is the Home Server, Laptop is only a pass thru.
Why use the laptop in the middle? I don't want to store media files here (work laptop).
Why not directly sync with the Home Server? It sits in the basement and I am lazy to go down the every time I want to sync that was my major irritant with iPod syncing.
Any recommendations?
Regards
Nick
Can't you set up home sharing in iTunes? That way you can see your library from your server on your laptop, and have doubletwist pull your playlist from that iTunes.
Home Server <--> Laptop --> DoubleTwist --> Captivate
I can't remember the exact steps, but I know you can pull from a home server like you are saying. Most people do it with their home theater set ups, but I don't see why it couldn't be done this way
I just use estrong file manager, and am able to get to my file shares via wifi. While this might work exactly like you want you won't have to plug in. just a thought.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-CAPTIVATE using XDA App
I found Doubletwist to be unstable. I used MediaMonkey. It supports playlists and syncing to mounted drives or media devices. If you mount your homeserver as a drive letter on the laptop, then MediaMonkey should work fine.
The free version did all i needed, but it doesn't sync video - just music.
Google is your friend.

This works with any android phone.

Syncing media: DoubleTwist does not sync JPS files - what software to use?

so i switched from iphone 3GS to the Thrill mostly for the 3D, but as there is no iTunes for Android, AT&T points Thrill owners to use DoubleTwist, but it seems to mostly sync music and video from your PC/Mac, not the photos and videos from you phone to your computer.
what do people use? i can't say i love android so far, but not being able to get my media off the phone is aggravating...
Just plug the phone in and turn on USB mode. Treat the phone like a flash drive, and copy the files where ever you want.
Not having iTunes was the biggest selling point for me when I got my first android phone.
If you have a Google+ account you can set the Google+ app to automatically upload all pictures to your Google+ account. I don't know for sure the jps photos will upload, but I think they do.
There is no Full featured backup program for android to backup your phone in your computer. DoubleTwist is a way to put music and videos on your phone, so is windows media player. Or, you can drag-and-drop any media on there manually. That is my preference: manual sync.
Backing up your phone isn't like iPhone. When you do a factory reset on your phone it does not wipe the internal SD, or the external SD. All that does is delete your apps, and reset your settings to default. So, losing the data on your android phone is harder, you need to go out of your way to delete pictures, music, etc. If you use the external SD card for that stuff, then you can just pull the card out, even if your phone is water damaged, smashed, etc.

RAZR i: PC Software for Media?

Hey can anyone recommend good software for managing media? I particularly want to transfer photos easily. I have a program for music, but I'm open to recommendations. I know that Samsung has Kies and Sony has Media Go, both are useful. Does Motorola have any official media software?

Try AirDroid. The transfer is over wifi and you can transfer almost everything. Besides it is a file manager, ftp server, system manager...
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm really looking for PC/laptop software, I find it really easy to manage media from there. I see Songbird will only connect in Mass Storage Mode and Songbird is OK for music but not pictures. I'll find something eventually!

Is Motorola Motocast acceptable http://www.mymotocast.com/download
Hi, that software looks PERFECT. I tried it with the RAZR i and it won't set up at all. I have everything installed but cannot manage media let alone sync anything. Is this software compatible with the RAZR i?

Well according to the download on Play it says not.
You mentioned Medio Go so presumably you also use it? You can copy your photos etc in to Media Go and simply select your folder/s from there and select “Add to” Your phone will then show up as “Unnamed device” with the sub-options of moving them to internal or external memory, or you can simply transfer them directly from your pictures folder. No offence intended but I don’t see the problem.
This is my first Motorola (and also Android) phone, but they sure don’t seem too concerned about providing PC media management.
How about google Picasa?
No worries, I get it; if you have use for something, you understand, if you don't need something, you won't understand. A few of my other devices (Apple and Sony) allow for quick and automatic movement of media from A to B or vice versa just by connecting the devices, I'm looking for the same now. I've been using the 10 camera shot per second feature and the photos are really stacking up. Drag and drop is a bit too 1990s for me. I've uninstalled Media Go now, I thought it didn't even recognise non-Sony devices? I'll give it a go then, if you say it appears.
True about Motorola and PC management, everywhere related to my phone it directs me to Motocast. I emailed them and they said the RAZR i is not compatible. Nevermind, I'll find something.
All I’m saying is that you can transfer files/folders via Media Go using “Add to” on right-clicking in Windows.
Whether this is the functionality you’re actually looking for I’m not sure but it works for me. I’ve used it to transfer a couple of albums and a number of tracks over (although my Walkman is my main portable music source), and after reading your thread I thought I’d see how it works with photos and no problems.
Just tried it out with iTunes but there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way of doing the same: there may be,but I can’t be bothered to find out!
Thanks buddy, I appreciate your help.
For music, if you do like iTunes, I have a recommendation. There is an app called iSyncr which allows you to copy any lists in your iTunes directly to your phone. If you use their Rocket Player to use the music, it will update your playcounts etc. Music at least, I've got covered! :good:

Question on transferring data from old to new phone/etc

Need some advice for dummies.
I currently have a gnex that is in great condition but the Verizon trade in and black Friday deals were too good to pass up. This was my first smartphone.
What is the simplest way to transfer my data from one phone to another?
1. Contacts and calendar should go automatically since they are through Google.
2. Photos - is there an easy way to transfer these? I will back up all of them to a nas, and I only want to transfer some so is the best bet to just directly copy the ones I want to a directory on the new phone?
3. Music - all my stuff is on Google music so no worries there. Side note, anyone know a volume leveler for Google music? It drives me insane since they bounce around so much even in the same volume. And I've leveled all my music already! Don't have any issues playing through xbmc, my laptop, or even other apps on my phone.
4. Audio books. Don't have a lot but are big files? I guess my best bet is to transfer them onto a laptop then onto the new phone? Anything more direct?
5. Do I need any kind of file manager on the new phone? I downloaded ASTRO file manager when I first got this phone to see where stuff was actually downloaded too from the chrome browser but is that necessary on the 4.4 Android? I have 4.2.2 right now.
6. Passwords for Google Chrome websites and tapatalk forums... Those should also transfer automatically correct? Since the app is actually storing them remotely?
