the forum here is full with problems of people who did get a cheap chinese battery from ebay or somewhere else, that is not recognized by their htc hd2 and is discharging at the rate of the shipped original small battery.
also the forum is full with "solutions" that are NOT WORKING that WILL NEVER WORK.
this is the reason for this thread to give the people the one and only answer to fix their problem!
first of all, be sure to have the newest firmware to have the extended battery driver.
but this will only solve charging problems if you got one of the first shipped firmwares.
after that get the ORIGINAL EXTENDED BATTERY. also the 2300mah battery from the company "leicke" is working for me. (looks identical to the original extended battery, maybe its the same)
this batteries will be recognized correctly and will discharge in the right speed!

i had a cheap 2400mah chinese battery before and had the same problem.
the thing is, that these chinese batteries are faking, they are normal ones because the driver of the hd2 origininally didnt support bigger batterys in the first roms.
the chinese batterys are out of date (they only added a kickstandcover) and also the capacity is mostly a giant fake!
i disassembled my chinese cameron sino battery and here is the result: its made of 2 small batteries pakaged in one frame and controlled with one chip that is sending fakedata to the phone, also the temperature is recognized wrong because it doesn't really have a sensor! it always shows 25,X°C all the time. like i said: totally faked data
tip but not a solution: if you discharge your chinese battery to 0%, remove it and put it back into the device, you should have 50% again, but thats no calibration because a calibration of this batteries is not possible!
my "leicke" battery did cost 21 euro incl shipping and is working correctly, also the high quality cover with metal-kickstand is fitting perfectly, not like the chinese ones that never fits!
dont try to fix the problem with hints and tricks or calibrations, it will NOT AND NEVER work with the cheap crappy chinese batteries! i already tested it!
i hope this thread is helping the most people with their cheap-battery-problems.

How long does the Leicke battery last by you ?? By me not too long , just a littel more than the original -.-
for me it lasts with wlan on and permanent internet using ca 10-12 hours (and still is not empty). in standby-mode many days and maybe weeks with windows mobile. (under 5-10% draining a day with phone on)
it lasts nearly the double time of the original battery. i can tell you, that the 2300mah are the real capacity and how long your battery lasts depends on your systemsettings, phoneusage etc.
i use battclock to control the current powerdraining. with wlan on it is ca 140-300mah but mostly a little bit under 200mah. so you can calculate yourself how long the battery lasts until it is empty
I'm using the licked battery too and can confirm that it works correctly with the hd2. With current android builds the battery last for 3 days with moderate use. If you can live with the bulky shape, the leicke is definitely a great alternative to the official HTC extended battery. Cover and stand are also quite ok, aluminium cover would be nicer but can surely not be expected at such a low price.

I use the cheap China batterry 2400hr
I bought off ebay for $14.00 US shipped and it works perfectly. The back cover fits like it was made for it. Snaps on cleanly and has never come off or stick up on the edges. The battery charges with Android and WinnMo to 100% and lasts for days. Most of your charging problems may be your rom or radio version. There are probably multiple makers in China so some may be better than others. My Cheap China works works okydoky!

Unfortunately it does not charge at all in WinMO
I use an NRG rom.
It seemed to work in Android but it went really fast downhill at 50% at 7% or so it was at 3.9 Volts which is rather high to be at that %.
maybe your rom don't support extended batterys. try another one like the oem rom from htc and test it.
the first roms didn't charge real extended batterys.
and you need the right android kernel for extended batterys because many kernels are buggy,
i use the kernel of froyo sense 2.4 and its working perfectly

Its nothing to do with the battery , its the android os and he kernel which is main cause of the battery not getting detected where the manufacturers are putting in the code which only detects the stock battery and thus your extended battery reports and drains like the normal battery.
I have a mugen 4800 for my dell streak and because of dell's coding my battery is not getting detected on froyo and on gingerbread, however it is getting detected properly on android 1.5 and 1.6 so its nothing to do with the battery. I agree to your point regarding the kernels having the extended battery support and that is the main cause for this reporting error.

Leicke Extended battery only charges when switched off
I've just bought the extended Leicke battery (from Amazon @ £15.)
When plugged into either my laptop or to the mains adapter I get orange and green alternating blinking lights and it doesn't charge. When the phone is off, the light is constant orange and charges.
I have the standard WWE ROM 3.14.405.2 and have just reapplied the same ROM in case I've done something to cause the problem.
This FAQ seems to confirm that the battery won't charge when the HD2 is on as a result of something that HTC have put into the Kernel to try and make sure that we only buy HTC branded batteries. It seems that I will need to go to a custom version, although I may just leave it off over night when charging.

Got an HTC extended battery. Not recognized by my hd2 running Pdaimatejam WP7 ROM Ver-7.1. I have read though many threads on XDA, but no solution !
After charging in magldr mode for 10 hrs it shows only 55 %. And the battery tool by HTC only shows capacity as 1230 , while the actual capacity is 2300.
Can any one guide me to a wp7 rom which will recognize the extended battery.

I've just bought a 2nd-hand XDA iis and is battery is not so good.
So I intend to buy a new one.
But I'm wondering which bat is the best now.
I've gone to ebay and see that they have some types: original 1500 mAh, 2400mAh, "slim" 3200 mAh and "fat" 3600mAh.
I think the 3600mAh is the most suited for my xda.
Is there any better choice? Where could I buy it?
With the 3600mAh, how long would the xda would last if I use wifi IE with the lowest backlight?
Do any of you have any problems with it?
Could I use my old charger or Do I have to buy a bigger one?
Could I still use my usb-cable (not cradle) for charging my xda?
And is there any conflict with WM5? (I've just read in our forum that someone have problems with WM6).

I would say that primarly it would depend on if a 'fatter' and heavier phone bothers you.
Keep in mind that just about all the cases and various accessories that hold or clip on to the phone are designed for a phone that has the original battery, so a thicker battery may well make them unusable (cases are the primary example I would give).
How long it would last is impossible to say, as it depends on how you use the phone, what apps are on the phone, and so on. Also, 3rd party battery quality does vary. Which manufacture is the best, I can't say as I've never seen any place that reviews battery life.
I've never heard of any incompatibilities when talking about a particular version of win mobile and a certain capacity battery, and can't imagine that it's even possible.
Pick one and see what you get, then post the results here so the every one else can benefit from your experience.

At last, I've bought a fat 3600 battery and I think it's a good decision.
Now, I can use my fone for browse Internet in near 6 hour with wifi; or I could use it with 5 day stanby (how amazing).
some small problems are:
- the fone is thicker and heavier (no problem with me).
- My third party charger is a bit hotter.
- And the charging time is longer (ofcourse).
do not by batteries by ACME power. I have bought 2400mAh and feel no difference compare to standard old battery. Besides, I have troubles with bt. it turns off by its self with only this battery.
I bought a battery for my Htc Harrier about 4-5 months ago. Sorry i dont know the brand of it but its says its 3200mah and "replacement for XDAIII". The inside of the battery is kind of bloated out from the heat and looks a little dodgy but still works. Ive had a few problems with it where it powers off for no reason. When i turn it on again the battery charge looks fine.
Just a couple of days ago for the first time my phone just completely hard resetted and lost all my data. I again turned it on and the battery charge was fine. im blaming that on my battery.
I use my phone mainly for listening to music on my bluetooth headphones while im driving to school and for typing things out on my bluetooth keyboard at school. The standared battery that comes with the phone simply has not enough charge time to do all this.
With all its annoying problems i still use my battery. I just make sure i back up my most important things on my storage card. And charge it every night.
Soon im going to buy a HTC Blue Angel due to my countrys crappy plans that the Harrier comes with. Maybe i might buy the 3600mah while im at it.
So my advice is if you dont need the charge of a extended battery then stay away. Unless you are like me and need the extra battery power then beware of some stress ahead that it might give you.
Speaking as someone who uses their phone pretty darn constantly, I'm in need of a battery that lasts a bit longer than the stock.
currently, Seidio is selling an extended battery (I would link, but as a noob I'm not able to..) 1750 mAh - no new door required, but only a gain of 450 mAh..
Verizon has stated there's a 2150 mAh extended battery coming, but that will almost certainly require a new back plate.
Anyone spotted any other compatible batteries yet?
I ordered the Seidio one and while it fits behind the stock cover it also adds a bit of weight, which is great considering how light this bad boy is.
Seidio is also going to release a 3500 mAh battery in the near future! According to their website, it adds 3-5 mm of width. But for the extra battery I think it will be worth it. The only problem is I am debating on purchasing this because I had one for my tilt and well it flat out sucked after a month of use.

Did you let it fully drain till the phone died, and keep turning the phone on until it wont turn on anymore. Then charge it fully, unplug when it is fully charged, let it get back down to 90-95%, then fully charge again, let die & repeat. Do that a few times and your battery life should be better. This is what I do whenever I get a new phone...
We use LiION Batteries, No special charging required
OK, to start, there is NO NEED to do any special charging conditions with Li Ion batteries, it does not matter how they are charged. A standard battery will have between 400 and 1200 charge cycles before it loses 50% of its capacity (1200 if you charge at 50%, 400 if you charge at 0-10%, like when the phone quits on you). Ni Cadmium on the other hand does require special charging situations but we don't use them in cell phones because of the mass. You can do take the advice of the previous post, but if you do that I would suggest sacrificing a virgin symbian phone or doing a handstand while plugging in your phone to charge. That might increase the battery life too.
Secondly, I spoke with Verizon, and their 2100 mA extended battery will be available soon and it is supposed to fit with the stock backing, probably the best way to go if you ask me, only $60 too. I am checking their site almost daily waiting for this to become available since like many, I need more battery life, I find that I can barely make it through the day without being conservative with the use, and that's on a work day when I'm not on it that much, on the weekends I have to charge it in the afternoon.
If you want to save on battery, turn down the screen brightness, chose a background with as few colors as possible, the more black the less battery you will use since its an AMOLED, blacks mean there is no power being used on the screen. Turn off your GEO locations services both on the phone settings and in programs that run a lot. This will easily save you 25-30% battery life.

I was at a Verizon store yesterday asking about it and they showed me their documentation. Their extended battery will come with a new back cover that is slightly raised to fit the larger battery.
I'm waiting for this too because it looks like it will be the most aesthetically pleasing option.
Too bad the guy had NO idea when the accessories were going to become available. Ugh.

Verizon doesn't trust their employees very much - to prevent leaks, they don't tell people about equipment/accessory release dates til within about two weeks of the actual release. The Incredible launch announcement had one of the longest announcement to release times I've seen the the last two years.

I dont know, but my seideco 1750 def gets me 3 more hours a day on my Incredible. I have switched back and forth from stock and the extended...the extended wins EVERYTIME...so Im not sure about that report.

The TP2 battery works fine. Same size and 200mAh more than stock... in fact I've seen them sold on Fommy.com as the thin extended battery for $44.95. Don't be fooled, and just go buy the TP2 batteries. They're cheaper if you don't need the therapy session of a rebranding.

I'm sure a number of HTC CDMA phones have interchangeable batteries.
I swapped out the 1500mAh battery from my Sprint Hero and put it into my Incredible. It's easily out lasting the stock incredible battery.
I ordered the 1500 HTC battery as well. Between those to staying charged I am not worried about it.

Edit: Someone on a Dutch forum has this battery and will report in a few days. I will post his findings here!
First review from a Dutch forum (translated from Dutch, so it might be a little iffy):
I've got the Mugen Power Extended Battery for HTC 1800mAh Legend BB00100 a few days now. Enough time (following the instructions) to fully charge and empty the battery a few times. I drained the battery by leaving the phone running Google Maps navigation. Yesterday and today was the first normal use.
Old situation: Before I had this battery, I was happy if the battery could make it through one working day. With light use in the morning, and in the evening with 40-50% left to do some web browsing. If I didn't put it on the charger at night, the next morning it was about 15%, not enough to start the day. Under normal to heavy use I never made it to the end of the day without charging in between.
New situation: With the same kind of usage it's about 70% in the evening. Again some web browsing before bed and no charger. This morning there was still 43%.
Conclusion: I still put it on the charger because I'm still unlikely to make it through an entire day. But what's clear is that I can make it easily through one day even with heavier use, no more charging in between. That makes the purchase worth for me.
Don't expect that you now can navigate for hours without draining your battery because that won't change. That was exactly what I hoped it would cause. Nothing more annoying than a device to with normal to heavy use that won't make it through one day. Striking is that the Battery Graph program (from where I get these measurements) shows that this battery longer stays at 100% and about as steep downhill runs compared to the standard battery.
so, to resume... even with the 1800mah battery, heavy use will make legend go for just one day...lol
this is intriguing to me...
how in the heck can a Samsung Galaxy Spica GT-I5700, with android 2.1 (there is an update for it now) last about 3 days with normal-heavy use, with the original battery of only 1500mah?!?!?!?! something is very wrong with Legend power usage...
PS. I've seen with my own eyes what I've said about the Samsung...
Yeah, I know it's strange.. Maybe the rom cookers can find out what's causing the power issue.
that would be nice, but I don't know what is the technical skills required to find out...
I can use the battery for 2 to 3days with browsing and some navigation (and 3G is always on, GPS only when needed). BUT: I use taskpanel lite too autokill most programs on standby, really made much difference for me

For the legend, the battery is the same size as the original (it has to be, since you can't remove the entire back of the phone and replace it with a larger back).
Weight? Not sure if it will be much heavier than the original.

Mine is also on the way, and I was thinking about doing a mini-review of it. Not done like the other one here, but with the method mention earlier here: With the screen at maximum brightness and video running running and see who lasts the longest. Any other method? Maybe with a benchmark-tool standing at repeat, if there are any?

has anyone found a way to get the hd2 to properly show the battery percent of extended batteries? i have a 2400mah battery and i have to remove the battery and put it back in to get it to show the rest of the battery life when it is almost dead. Its quite annoyin.
Could you give some more information, eg: What ROM, RADIO version you use. And if you use Android, what Android version and kernel.

I dont know, but I have a 2400 mAh battery and it shows the exact percentage .. though I'm using energy ROM . Try to change your rom, maybe its the reason

your device is ok, throw away your extended battery or keep it as emergency replacement.
If you have the one from ebay that costed around 13.72 USD
then do this
1.) Charge 100% + 2-4 hours more if possible
2.) Drain battery completely to switch over to second battery
3.) Charge second battery 100% + 2-4 hours more if possible
4.) Drain battery completely
5.) Repeat steps 1-4 once more and your battery should function as expected

I have ordered 2 high capacity batteries for my new HTC HD7 and DHD.
They are simply higher capacity batteries but not made by HTC.
The Desire HD battery is 1600mah (standard is 1230mah) and
The HD7 battery is 1500mah (standard is 1230mah)
My DHD is aweful with its standard battery - I won't even touch it once in the day and after 6 hours it will only have 1/4 left of battery!
The HD7 is much better and seems to last the whole day with call and text use but it is always on its last legs towards the end of the day - I imagine that these batteries will offer at least another 2 hours of good use a day to these phones.
My question really lies in the safety of these batteries... they are not HTC batteries - they are made by some oem somewhere in china I would guess and I don't know if they are likely to leak and damage my phone or not with extensive use. Does anyone have any actual experience with such batteries on their phones?
I did actually buy 2 spare oem batteries for my Nexus One from eBay and have never had problems with them however I have never used them for a sustained period so I don't know for sure...
i am also interested in this. ive seen a few 1500mah batteries on ebay. but my concern is if they are really 1500mah. they could just throw a sticker on there that says so.
as for safety, as long as the batteries output is equal to that of the stock hd7 battery i dont see why there would be a problem

It's not recomended and it is risky.Those batteries can really damage your phone and in some extreme cases you can even lose your warranty.You can find this hot topic in various forums, I read a Blackberry user buying one and after 3 months working presumly better the battery started to literally mealt, ouch ! (could have been a bigger ouch btw lol). I'd wait for an extended battery but I'm new to the world of HTC and don't know how they would react. Nokia in 2006 launched a program which replaced some particular batteries and delivered increased cappacity back.
OR buy a 2nd original battery. It's the safest decision and 2460 is still better than 1500
I bought a battery like this for my Treo 700wx. Worked great for awhile and than it started to die really fast. I put back the stock battery and it would even start to die on my pretty quickly. After that, I never would buy another extended battery. Seems hit or miss but just wouldn't trust it again.
^ Exactly. Forgot to add that their cycle life is a lot shorter. While with an genuine one you could go even for years, for an extended one you should expect 6-7 months at best.
Don't buy these batteries. They all look the same and I'm guessing originate from the same supplier. I bought one and it didn't fit quite right, and I worked out the label was misaligned, so I peeled back the label to line it up and low and behold the battery itself said 900mah despite being labelled 1500mah and "replacement for desire hd".
Blatantly trying to rip off users who are desperately trying to get a little better battery life, ironically they are actually getting a lower capacity battery! Beware! Also note, I've had my hd for a month now and the battery life has improved hugely, I always get a full day now! Although its in power save mode by bed time. I have though invested in an external 5000mah portable battery charger for use when I know I'll be away from mains or usb, a much safer option.

Ps this is by far the best smart phone I've owned, iPhone, blackberry storm, palm not a bit as good as this, wish it could deal with outlook meeting requests though, ie accept, reject, send...only fault, and I can live with it for how amazingly it does everything else.

I've bought plenty of generic batteries and have yet to have my phone blow up in my pocket.
