help apn not saving after reboot the galaxy tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone here know why everytime i reboot my tab my apn is not saved? i'm using the tab with simple mobile, but everytime i reboot it would put back the tmobile apn back on it even after i have saved the simple mobile apn.

I had that problem when I used JK1 firmware. I switched to a different firmware and have not had the problem again.

are you hitting menu then saving?

Add it to /etc/apns-conf.xml with geditor

You can always try deleting tmobiles apn. Very easy to put back on, just hit menu and restore settings and it adds it back.

You'll have to manually flash another ROM. I switched to JJ4 after having the same problem and it stays after reboot now everytime!

A wipe/factory reset would be an option, however you could do this as well - Connect via WiFi, go to Market search and install APN Manager..you can set your apn there..it works for me!

Thanks for the help
P.S BTW i don't have a Data plan does it mind ???
Not sure of your APN settings, but you can register over wifi. You will need to setup adb (The Android Debug Bridge), which is a very simple process, so have a look for a guide on that.
If you do find APN settings, it shouldn't matter that you don't have a data plan, they will most probably charge you as you use data. So it will work, but when your phone signs in syns it will probably use a couple of megs which you will get charged a lot for. On my pay and go plan they charge £3/mb :<
ok thanks for the help
Edit: god that's difficult any video tutorial or a tutorial with pics ?
It may look intimidating, but it really isn't hard.
Adb just involves extracting the sdk and installing a driver. Then to enable wifi copy and paste that command.
Here's a guide on setting up ADB
The only command you will need from that huge thread on enabling wifi is this:
Code:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings

-Click the big Start Button.
-Sit back and watch. This should only take between 2 or 3 minutes to complete.
-When the process is finished and your phone begins to reboot and you see the at&t screen you may go ahead and unplug the micro usb from your phone.

hey..
i am using continuum v6.1.
and i was doing nothing..i jus got up today and the phone was not working ..
sounds really odd, did you flash a new kernel? anything different at all? Have you tried rebooting?
In the dialer type *#0011# then reply with what it says on the third line.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I've had this happen to me a number of times (more often then not when flashing a ROM or back to stock). In my experience this is b/c I've lost my APN. Anyway I check this first:
SETTINGS --> ABOUT PHONE --> STATUS --> MOBILE NETWORK STATE = Disconnected
Then I head over to here:
SETTINGS --> WIRELESS & NETWORK --> MOBILE NETWORKS --> ACCESS POINT NAMES --> Here you should get prompted to enter an APN, click yes and follow the prompts and enter one manually with these settings:
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: MMS and Internet
Auth Type: none
Save and then select it and you should then connect no reboot required (well for me at least). This is one reason I always install the app "APN backup and restore". Of course you'll need to connect to a wireless network in order to connect to the market, etc... so I find it faster to just add one manually.
Hope this helps.

Unable to create APN with "dun" type

Hi guys,
nedd your support, unfortunately to enable tethering with my carrier (italian coopvoce) I have to set the APN type as "default, supl, dun".
But when I try to set the "dun" type, while saving the APN, I get this error "the carrier is not allowing to create dun APN".
I've also aked for support to the carrier and they are confirming that there's no constraint about setting dun and dun is required to enable tethering . I've tried with other phones wht my SIM and I can create APN with dun ...
So I'm lost.
I've have a second SIM (italian TIM business) and tethering seems to work fine.
Any suggestion ?
I had the same problem with Ho.mobile, solved with this guide:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...te-to-Android-7-0-Xperia-Z5/td-p/1208290#gref
Basically you need to open a shell via ADB on the phone (a PC is required...) and give this command:
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
from now on you don't need 'dun' in the APN type in order to enable tethering...
Hope this helps
/M
