How to simply install a custom ROM ? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I used to have an HTC Desire.
With that device, I was able to simply install third party ROMs in just one click with an app called ROM Manager.
It seems that this is impossible with my Samsung Galaxy S, because I have a "3e" recovery preventing 3rd party ROMs from flashing correctly.
Is there any way I could simply go back to a "2e" recovery in order to flash any ROM I'd like without having to follow a complicated tutorial that would take hours to go through ?
Looking forward to all of your answers,
Thanks !

Here.
Just a fast flash with ODIN and you are ready for customROMs.

Where can I get original firmware?

Hi all
I want to replace the bootloader and install root and maybe CM.
But I was looking for the original bootloader and more importantly, the original firmware so in case I do not want to stick with CM or want to send it in for warranty, I can reset it all.
Could somebody point me to where I can download the needed files?
Thank you guys and girls
I need to inform you that you cannot replace the bootloader. You can only unlock it. Once that is done your warranty is void.
Now I am not sure if that works so someone will have to confirm or you will have to google it, but the RUU resets your phone to stock.
Here is a link to the GolfU RUU
Alternatively you can flash stock ROM, recovery and kernel from this thread right here.
Happy flashing, any further questions you are welcome to ask :3

1) if u have downloaded a file from first link, it's enough. the guide also has a link, but it's older JB firmware.
2) just extract the contents into a directory and set the pda as the md5 file.

Wow wow, where did that come from?
I'm an engg student, but that has nothing to do with this. months of reading threads, experimenting with my phone, couple of soft bricks, etc. taught me this.
welcome to the s advance community. just read the forums and you'll know this too.

There is no such thing as "best rom". It is all personal. Try them and see which one suits YOU best. In case of any troubles just flash back to stock as already mentioned (or get cocore cwm/twrp and create memory snapshot before any kind of modification - so you can revert your phone to that working state). Think windows restoration point that actually works.

1) yes, in India itself.
2)i think cm 10.1(my current daily usage ROM. pac is very good, but the latest cm build is not merged into it yet, so some older bugs are still there.

Recovery

Hey guys.
I am searching for a recovery that will work with that ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...t/rom-t3054101 ?
or this? "cm-10.2.1-galaxysmtd" got it from here https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?de...td&type=stable
any suggestions?
I've searched the forums but all I found were some builds with embedded cm11 kernels.

Thank you for your effort!
but I am still confused.
Most of the versions of a custom recovery are not flashable over Odin (I did not mention this)
And the last link fpr the twrp is for the gt-I9001.
can you help me see clearly please?

Here is the deal,
I'll come to Düsseldorf (altstadt), then you buy me a Beer , instead you get the recovery package from me. ,
Just Kidding , Use this link and download whatever you need.
The included TWRP should be valid for both ROM you've Posted. Else you can use the second recovery included. Bonus : Stock ROM is also included.
Use following Steps:
1) Copy i9000_twrp2.2.1-recovery.zip to your SD card.
2) Use Odin to flash first recovery_i9000.tar
3) Use 3 button combo to boot to recovery, then flash i9000_twrp2.2.1-recovery.zip from there.
If anything goes wrong, then i9000_stock_rom is also included. You can use odin(also included) to flash it.
And, for such problem please post it always either here OR here .
Prost,

It's taking you to a list of all the roms but I'm sensing that you don't know what to do and I'm going to suggest you go read up on how to flash roms and kernels because you will ruin your phone if you don't know what you're doing. A simple Google search on how to flash roms will teach you.
