Best application so far - Desire HD Themes and Apps

This is the most useful application I tested so far. Try it. It's called Tasker and it is an advanced scheduler by which you can schedule virtually anything.
I used it to schedule phone, gps, wifi, etc. to switch off at night and switch on again in the morning. Also, you can use GPS locations to manage things like volume, services on/off, etc. The best thing with this app is that it is event driven so you can configure actions based on several conditions. However, it is hard to understand how to configure but once you get the idea, it's straight forward.
Try it and share your opinions. 7 days trial

Sounds very good. I was looking for something that can turn on/off my wifi depending on location. And this can do a lot more. I'm downloading to try.

If you're going to use tasker to do things based on location, I recommend using cell towers rather than gps, it should save you a bit of battery power.
Florida.

Anyone knows of similar app like Tasker but it's free? Am looking for one that can change profile based on calendar event (e.g. meeting/appointment)

You could use Y5 Battery Saver found in the market place
It turns your wifi on/off if you are in the vicinty of any wifi networks that you have saved on your phone
I find it very useful

Profiles

Hey all. I have been searching for an app/widget that will create ringer profiles. For example, a low volume level with vibrate off at night, loud volume with vibrate on when outside, vibrate only in meetings, etc. All selectable/switchable via one (or two) button presses. Any suggestions? Thanks.

My Hero, and the XDA app, made this post possible.
I use Quick Profiles, from the Market. It let you create different profiles and place shortcut icons for each of them.
A much more complete solution is Toggle Settings, but it is also much resources hungry.

Thanks, I will give those a try.

Trying ProfileManager for now. I remember on my Touch there was an app that, when selected from the home screen, would pop-up a list of fully customised profiles. Simple. The widgets in the market (most in the form of switches) all seem to lack the ability to select ring AND vibrate ... it's either one or the other.

Why not try Locale?
also try audiomanager. I know you can do it in the pro version, not sure about the free one though.
But i always hear good things about locale too.

Locale Beta was awesome, worked really well and hardly affected the phone in terms of performance or battery life.
Locale is now resource-hungry and not as full featured. The network location is really iffy (it wasn't in Beta), it costs ten quid, and it just seems slow and buggy. I'm quite annoyed I spent money on it, based on my impressions of Beta.
Does any of these apps allow to set auto-answer on and enable the loudspeaker? It would be great to create an in-car profile!

<--(wtf)Why arent there any mobile network toggles?

i just started using launcherpro cause its super bad ass. but there seems to be no way to get a switch to turn mobile data on and off. i turn it on and off a lot and its a pain to keep switching it thru the menu. theres no downloads and no way to make one please someone save me before i kill myself and punch my girlfriend and ***** slap my dog ill do all three in reverse order
"you want to try getting physical with me?" -airheads.
but really, i assume you are on a sprint leak rom, and are used to the sense widgets. i feel your pain. i use an app called juicedefender (when i'm on a sprint rom) and it has a widget called APN off or something like that. the app its self is badass but that widget is... superbadass. check it out it maybe exactly what you've been looking for.
Have you long press on the screen and set it up that way? Choose widgets, go to settings and select mobile networks.

it works on official roms.

For the developers...Is this possible?

Is it possible to have a pop up menu made available like it is for the Wi-Fi settings under the Mobile Network Settings...an advance menu..so a person could have the Data Network become inactive when the screen goes off ?
The reason I ask is this would allow those who choose to have their phones remain on all the time only have this active when the screen was on if they wanted set up this way. I believe having this option be made available would increase battery life...since so much battery draw can be used for the cell standby and it's constant searching for the best tower to give the best reception for data..
Thanks You

Most extra apps do...and it's for this reason I am asking if this can be included in any of the roms out there..It would make more sense to me to have the option to be able to schedule this within the system..than relying on a application to control it.I know Gingerbread is going to be able to manage things better..but even with it's new task managing improvement..this would be a nice feature to have...
Mac
It would be nice but juice defender has many options to schedule data and does allow programs to sync. It may be an ongoing background process but it doesn't keep the cpu from sleeping too much. It works pretty well.

[Q] Remote GPS Activation / SMS GPS Enabler

Hi everyone,
Okay this might be a dumb question but I'm going to ask. Is there a way to remotely enable/activate the GPS and WiFi on my Android phone through a text message? I currently have GPS Tracker, Lost My Droid, Real Time GPS Tracker, Seek Droid, SMS GPS Enabler, and Where's My Droid installed on my phone to try and remotely turn on my GPS and WiFi. The problem is that yes sending the text to my phone and have the sound go off for Where's My Droid and Lost My Droid works, but the problem is having my GPS and WiFi turned off on my phone and not hearing because its not there. Yes, their are plenty of good apps that let you track your phone if your GPS is on, but they do not allow you to turn on GPS and WiFi through (SMS) text. So all and all, is there an app or apps that can do this for me, so I can do what I want to do?
Any information would be helpful, instructions would be better lol.
Thanks, II

I am the Dev of seek droid. Why leave the GPS disabled? It really does not conserve that much battery. Enabling the GPS does not leave the GPS turned on or even give the GPS any power unless the application you are using requests GPS.
Go pick up tasker from the market, and you can create a profile to have it enable gps whenever you get an sms.
You should probably have taker already anyways. It's a beast.

For some reason on my phone if I leave the GPS enabled it will drain out my battery in a few hours (8hrs). Where as if I turn GPS off, my battery has lasted up to almost 16hrs which is double and it is the only setting that I have changed.

Thanks for the advice pizz0wn3d. I will look into Tasker and see if it works for me and what I need it to do.
f you don't see the satellite dish in the notification bar then it really shouldn't use any battery, even if GPS is enabled. If you have location stuff turned on so the GPS is being used (i.e. you see the satellite dish in the notification bar) it will use battery.

Let me know and I can send you the profile I use. It makes the phone talk (alerting them that gps is being remotely enabled to track the phone down) and sends a confirmation text to the number that activates the gps. Then you can use "wheres my droid" or whatever else to track that S.O.B. down.

Bob, I do know this. For some reason my Map app starts up on its own and launches Latitude causing my GPS to activate and stay on. I don't want to uninstall Maps or Latitude because I do use them. Its easier to just turn off GPS then hassle with trying to find the source of the problem, in truth.

Well the way my profile is set up, whenever I receive a text with a certain phrase in it, it'll turn on the gps. Along with a few other things
It's not one of the advertised features because it's just one of the many things you can do with it.
I'll try to post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
Edit: This oughta work. Import this into tasker.

It should be able to import after you paste the xml file into:
/sdcard/tasker/profiles
Then just hit menu -> profile data -> import one profile

If you use Latitude, it will be on all the time and cause battery drain because it needs update your location 24/7 even if Gmaps is not used. You don't have to uninstall it. Just make sure you log out of Latitude if you don't use it.

Oh sorry, normally I do but I haven't been on xda outside of the app in a few days so I haven't been able to look at my messages.
There is a wiki on the app that has a bunch of different profiles you can try out, as well as a couple of tutorials to get the hang of making profiles.

Well for the lock screen; I was trying a remote lock down after I enabled the GPS tracking, so they could not turn it off, other then removing the battery of course. The only thing I can do right now is, set screen time out to 7sec. which is the smallest amount Tasker allows. The lock in Tasker is a joke because if you click on the notification bar at the top and select something you can bypass the lock, even in full screen mode.
As for the Ringtone/Ringer; I was trying to setup the phone to ring when people text me, similar to that of Where's My Droid, but with a twist. When I get their text, the assigned ringtone under their contacts or from file would play, that way I would know who it was without having to look at my phone every time. For this one in particular; do you or someone else know how Where's My Droids setup works? Then I can try to base it off of that. From what I can tell, it tricks the SMS into using the the ringer system and not the notification system. So a bait and switch from SMS Receiver to Cell Receiver. That's all I know for now.
Thanks for the link! I'll go through it to learn some more about Tasker.

I've never tried to set up a remote lock through tasker, I just had it set up to enable the GPS so I could lock+retrieve it via wheres my droid/lookout. But i have heard that the tasker lock down was pretty weak >.<
I actually never realized the phone didn't support custom tones for contacts outside of the calling ringtones. That actually sounds pretty difficult to implement via tasker. You would first have to disable notifications from your sms app so the tasker profile wouldn't just play a sound over that one. You'd also likely have to create a separate profile for each contact that you want to have a custom sms tone for.

[Q] Do not disturb or blocking mode feature for overnight?

I am just about to get one of these phones but was wondering if it has the ability to switch off calls/notifications at night between specified times?
I believe the S3 has blocking mode and iOs has Do not disturb.
If it doesn't have this ability are there any apps on the play store that people could recommend that would do this?

That's an unethical practice disturbing an employee while on his sleep considering the fact that it's not already work hours. lol! You should know your rights! You deserve a healthy living still you know haha!
Anyways I'm not sure about the HTC One... Don't have it yet but on past HTC Devices there's this feature called Smart Group... You could assign contacts on that group and add options on it like the notification settings for each particular group. And yeah you can configure it to be silent on a specified time or switch ringtones on specified times also.

If you want some serious automation, check out Tasker.
It s not free, and not easy to get used to, but with some perseverence it can do just about anything.
The easy stuff is shutting radios and volume off between hours. Also simple to nominate a specific contact so that person can still make your phone ring.
With some practice you'll get it automatically muting your phone when you walk into your favourite cinema.
Or adjusting settings depending on battery levels.
Or turn your wi-fi on when you get home.
Or waiting until you are on a certain part of your drive home from work and text the wife to say you are on the way, and to get dinner ready!
Check out some of the pre-made "recipies" others have made for Tasker than you can download and import...

Nevermind thought it had a night mode it doesn't
Or another suggestion would be BusyMe all it does it set times to silence your phone. Very simple and work perfect. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fernandodunn.android.busyme.lite
I use an app called power schedule basic which does this as well and is very customisable. You can use it to set silent mode at night, wifi on and off schedules, ring profiles and other stuff.

Llama allows you to put your phone into quiet mode but still let calls ring your phone but only from specified contacts. It's not as simple as just selecting your favorites group but you can select allowed contacts.
The reason I sought this specific app was due to Smart Actions on my Razr HD. I loved it but found it was too limited. Llama fills in the gap.
