[Q] [REQUEST] HTC Legend Sense 2.0 - Desire HD ROM Port - Legend Android Development

Hello guys.
I'm currently using HTC Legend and I'm pretty sure it's the best phone I ever had.
But yesterday I met HTC Desire HD. Design of this phone is poor, but... ROM is excellent! Sense 2.0, a bunch of new interesting and useful apps..
So, let's see pros & cons:
- We already have DHD Rom ported to Desire +;
- We have all drivers for legend, based on 2.1 (As I know, there are no 2.2 drivers shared on the internet) +;
- I think there will be a ****load of issues due to incompatible screen resolution on Legend -;
- Perfomance issues. 600mhz 384mb versus 1ghz and 512mb. -;
So... Maybe, it's time to start porting?

As far as I know the DHD ROM ported to Desire is not fully functional and still has issues. Having in mind that and the fact that the Desire is much more closer to DHD hardware-wise, I think it won't be possible to have the Sense 2.0 ROM ported for the Legend any time soon.

I have an access to Desire and I intalled DHD ROM on it about a week ago. It's pretty fast, the only one bug I found is not working camera.
Also, hardware does not make any sense, because there are drivers and, I'm sure, it's really easy to replace drivers in DHD ROM (As I said, we have Legend drivers).

"Not working camera" is really serious issue I think! DHD and Desire both have ARM v7 CPUs, Legend has ARM v6 CPU... quite different architectures.

Oh wow... I forgot about cpus.
But... I can't believe it's so hard to port DHD ROM to legend -____- People porting Android 2.3 on WM6.5 device (HD2) now, even if it doesn't make any sense.

just hope it is possible...loved DHD Sense ROm on HD2.....

Maybe it's possible but I doubt if any of the skilled Legend devs will spend time on that...

Android 2.3 AOSP is open source, HTC Sense is closed source. That means you have to rebuild everything, especially the graphics and CPU.

hmmm...then 2.3 then..

The HTC Wildfire 2 has been spotted! Since it looks like having a 3.2 inch HGVA screen like our Legend, would it be possible to port this ROM to our Legends?
Here's the link: http://www.unwiredview.com/2011/02/14/htc-wildfire-2-also-given-first-press-shot/
I know it hasn't even been officially announced yet, but does it seem plausible? I've always thought the reason we couldn't port HTC Sense 2.0 was because the Desire HD / Desire Z had a different resolution screen to the Legend? I know when the Legend came out its 2.1 ROM was ported to the Hero, so I wonder if this will be possible...
We'll only know if and when it is officially released though. Just a thought.

Sense 2.0 was buggy on the DHD I had one on release and a lot of the features worked only when they wanted to.

I believe this would be possible. Just give us HVGA Sense 2.0 and watch!

In that case I hope a Wildfire 2 is released! The only issue I can think about is the potential lack of a trackball, but that didn't stop the DHD ROM being ported to the original Desire, so...
This is all speculation at the moment anyway until we find out tomorrow whether the Wildfire 2 is real or not at the MWC.

It's official! The specs look very similar to the Legend - 600mhz processor, same screen, etc.

Now we are waiting for leaked ROM. Maybe we will have 2.3 with Sense 2 soon...

Oh yess, it's comin. When will this new wildfire be released?

Question: HTC Incredible port to N1

So, I was wondering with the HTC Incredible out for Verizon right now, would it be easier to port Sense over from that to the N1 than from the Desire since they share many of the same parts? I know the Desire port is almost fully functional, but missing some things, would the same occur with the port from the Incredible. Or does it matter that it's CDMA?
I would love to have Sense on my Nexus, but these questions are moreso just me trying to get my head around how this port thing works.
N1 has more things in common with desire than incredible.
Aside from a few minor hardware differences (physical buttons, no noise cancelling mic) the desire is basically the same phone as the N1 but with different software and a non unlockable bootloader.
you should be saying HD2 port to incredible or visaversa

It would be more difficult since the N1 is closer to the Desire than the Incredible. Also, the Desire rom has already been available for months.

Why not try the Desire rom that's available now?
Starting from square 0 on Incredible would mean a port that's less functional than the Desire rom for at least many months.
Good info to know. I have no idea why I thought the Incredible was closer than the Desire... me being stupid apparently...lol. And I do plan on trying the Desire port, my N1 just arrived today. I will keep it stock for a bit just to make sure it doesn't have any of those pesky issues that can be fixed via warranty, but I'll get the itch to root and ROM it soon enough. My FUZE didn't last very long before I did so... I doubt this will either...haha.

Though I do wonder, if the Incredible's version of Sense is a newer/updated version of the UI, then would we expect to see those changes implemented in the Desire? Hence making another version of the ROM closer to what the Incredible has.
I'm assuming somebody will release the Incredible ROM more to make the current Sense ROM better.
Just a guess...

any news about official rom 2.1?,

any news about official rom 2.1?
nope.
No news.
I've sent a e-mail to HTC officials

Maybe they go 2.2
I don't know.
I think HTC don't develop any ROM's.
But we can develop some good ROM's.
Now we have to develop linux Debian .
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the interests you have with our product, the HTC Tattoo. I can understand how important it is to be able to fully utilize your device and be able to have the 2.1 Android Operating System.
Unfortunately, at this time there is no Update to the 2.1 Android Operating System Update. This Update will be sent to your device via email or text message when it is available.

Response I got from HTC.
In other words: this will never happen...
Let's see if FroYo really supports different screen resolutions...this would solve our problems in getting a decent upgrade...
Would HTC tattoo be able to run Froyo?

Don't know anymore, but this information could just be another rumor, so be careful with spreading this info
no
i called the service desk, "highly unlikely" but htc is thinking about it
Just wait!
I heard about the HTC Wildfire with QVGA screen coming soon with 2.1 or later

Yeah...Tattoo and Wildfire have all the same exept wilds 384 ram and tattoos 256 and screen is bigger i think like desire's...but same in resolution and thats our hope )

Wildfire is to Desire what the HD Mini is to HD2.
It is smaller, less RAM, lower res screen, slower CPU.
Still looks like it will be a top notch device though!

Resolution is not the problem... that works... the problem is camera and BT... but this is different in wildfire so no go.
If I don't see either a custom 2.1 working ROM (by working I mean everything working), or a RUU for 2.x from HTC, it'll be curtains for my HTC Tattoo. (I'll still build AzusaROM though and test the ROM on it until it bricks).
I'm thinking of getting a Nexus One at the end of the year.

Yeah, I thought so too, because since the Nexus is a Google Phone the new Android versions will be compatible with this phone for a long period of time I assume...
Hope is the best medicine for this sort of situation... Lets see devs at xda are trying hard to get it sorted..

HTC WildFire ROM on our Tattoo...possible?

hey developers!!
I heard today that it will hit the market a new HTC android, with QVGA screen (like ours), the same CPU, but this new brings 384MB of RAM and we only have 256 (Of course, brings Android 2.1 Sense) ... : P
that was my question, if we have a build of android 2.1 official with HTC Sense and a screen just ours one... no way to "tweak" this rom to make them work in our Tattoo? : D
Thanks in advance for reply
more info in engadget, i can't post links
It would be possible to do that, i could do that when a ruu for the device comes out...
For me that sounds like a "If you want Eclair on your Tattoos, buy a Wildfire" from HTC...
Dudes, the Phone didn't came out and there already are questions if it is possible to empower our phone with the 2.1 ROM - We just will have to wait if it is easily possible to port it to our Tattoo's or not, but I think it's pointless to discuss about a device which isn't available anywhere ATM...
the user above me is right! it would be great to see that, but we'll just have to wait...
i think (i'm not sure that i'm right) that new HTC got the same hardware that out Tattoo, but a screen a bit bigger (resolution is the same) and a more RAM, cause of this i thank it would be """easy""" to port...
yeah and capacitive screen (we have resistive)
i think that the camera is diferent too...(i think..)
Wildfire has 5mp camera Why can't we use camera driver from HTC magic?
It's not that easy, only because Tattoo and HEro have 3MP Camera this doesn't mean the drivers will work...
Take this analogy: you can't use a broadcom driver for a RealTek network-card...why do you think then it's possible to use drivers "as-is" for the tattoo? There is always reverse engineering involved...
sounds great
but,how long should we wait for it?
I just thought the camera is pretty the same, just like the other hardware

ICS. Isn't it overrated?

Hi all. I've tried ICS on my IncS and on my Asus transformer TF 101. After a month's use on the Asus and a week's use on the inc s, I've reverted to stock Rom on the Asus and to ARHD (almost stock) on the inc s. Correct me or convince me but I find ICS to be one big step sideways (or is it in the wrong direction)?. Your comments?
...edit...
I prefer sense ROMs.

Sense fanboy rules out this whole statement. Going from cm7 to cm9 is extreme. If I wasn't on a cell I'd elaborate.

I guess ICS is a huge step for guys that never tried MIUI or don't like Sense Roms, for those o tried/like MIUI and Sense it is a question of just some more features.

At least for devices built with/for Sense in mind, when it gets officially combined with ICS by HTC (later this year, they say), it may reveal a new light on the subject.
It might work great and be more stable/smooth and give you the desired Sense functions that current ICS ports don't have.
And only at 4.0.3, ICS may yet have places to go we will have to wait to see.
Maybe you are correct, still.. for now...

These two bits of information are key. Try it on a Galaxy Nexus / Nexus S and you may have a differing opinion.
well as st.matt said, you should try it on the galaxy nexus device and then only you will get the real taste of ice crem sandwich!
With better interface, power management, loads of new features...its definitely better than its previous versions.
@StMatt,
I agree better hardware, newer phone goes well with ICS. But does it mean that older phones with less RAM, slower single core processors can run the same OS with all bells & whistles? I have this inc s which I feel.is good enough with ARHD sense 3.0 (even sense 3.5 makes this phone groan & creak), so what is good for THIS device? ICS with all its refinements? Without some 'nice to have features' that Google has deliberately throttled in ICS? Or even the ICS upgrade with sense 3.5, that's due in Q2? Maybe the last option seems best IMHO. Anyone else like to refute?

Doesn't have to do specifically with hardware. It means those phones and tablets have better support due to official releases.
Everything else that doesn't have an official release has devs trying their best to get it working, but not everything is working or disabled. Such as most HTC devices.
Sense 3.5 reduced my phone to a laggy mess, which is why I switched to miui. I'd be interested in seeing what the official release of ICS runs like when it's out.
When htc release the update to Ics there will be lots of Ics Roms that are really smooth and fast for the incredible s
yes agree with you. sens + ics in my opinion will be a step forward
I'm waiting too for ICS + sense. Lets get our hopes up..... Or not!
HTC Incredible S - S-Off
Recovery: 4EXT v1.0.0.3 RC3 Touch
Radio: 3322.10.08.28_M

After seeing the ICS ports by StMatt and Virtuous team, I'm having a sneaky, suspicious feeling that ICS + sense will make me wish for going back to gingerbread + sense.
ICS IMO has been a major disappointment, (just like the Niagara Falls have been the second major disappointment in an American bride's life).
Sent from my HTC Incredible S
I've been running the Quattro ROM on my phone for almost a month now, and while that ROM does have some customization in it and still has a fair bit of bugs, I'd have a hard time going back to 2.3 even with the Sense. While Sense is really nice, Android before ICS did have a fair bit of lag on it and just didn't feel as smooth as things like iOS. With ICS, moving homescreens, swiping pages in applications, etc. just feels a little more natural and with less lag.
Plus, with Google Chrome for ICS, that's enough reason to go over. Miles above the stock Android browser!
Nik is releasing a sense+ ics rom tomorrow and I can't wait to try it. I tried all the other ics roms that are out for the incs and I have to admit that I'm quite disappointed. I use cm7 before I switched to trinity so niks New rom might be the one for me

Seems like some Microsoft initiated FUD campaign, in order to promote Windows 8; but whaddya know, there may just be some truth in the fact that "ICS has not been well received by phone / tablet manufacturers and ICS acceptance percentages have been way too little"
Maybe there is some truth in the blurb, and maybe the sour grapes feeling in me is really justified....

Do you think the ICS original rom will receive 3.X kernel? That would be awesome!

Great news! Even better full Sense 4 ports soon!!

Hey guys, I just stumbled into sth really great! htc is releasing a new phone called Desire X. The great thing about it: It gets Sense 4.1, so I guess full Sense 4 and it has got the exact same resolution as the Incredible S!! So there won't be any resizing issues in the future, which will make the look of Sense 4 on our phones even better. Also I'm pretty sure it will get official JB support, so we will have that, too without any resizing issues. I searched for an English link and it's not the best but it should be enough so check it: http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/08/htc-desire-x-htc-proto-specifications-leaked/
Omg thats sick!! Nlw i'm all pumped up!
