[Q] How to fix the Captivates text messaging system? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my Captivate when I recieve a message it's never in order.
For example, I send a test text to a friend at 7:41. When he sends it back one minute later the text ends up behind mine (not in order) and the time recieved says 2:41am.
Is there something wrong that I'm missing? How can I fix this?

Wow. I tried the app mentioned in the topic and it totally ruined the order of my texts...

Yeah, that did not work at all. Messed things up even more.
Any other ideas?

Use Handcent, it's free, totally customizable and works.

don't use auto time/date update
if you use the stock messaging app, try using handcent or chomp and see if it still does it.

SMS Scheduling Software?

I would like to set my Kaiser to send pre-written text messages at specific times, does anyone have any idea about any software that does this? Or anyway to do it on the phone now?
For example, next week, I'll be traveling. I would like to write a text wishing my girlfriend a happy birthday, and then have my phone send it to her at 8AM her time, which will be 3AM my time.
Or, as another example, being able to set it so to send other people I work with reminder texts, about deadlines or whatnot, without my having to keep track of doing it myself.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

you are in luck because I have found this recently for my kaiser and it works great. Does scheduling and group texting and you can save the groups too.
Ah, that's brilliant, I'll give it a try.
Muchas Gracias!!
How do I install this.

OK, this is frustrating as hell, do any of you professionals have any ideas??
Each night, I send three to five messages to the same person, say at 0300, 0305, 0310, and 0315.
Almost universally, the first message is delivered, as I can see it crossed off in the Scheduled Messages section of PowerSMS, and it also appears in the Messaging program as sent.
However, the remaining messages, although crossed off as sent in PowerSMS, do not appear to have been sent, and do not appear in the Messaging program as sent?
Any ideas? This is the sole reason I bought PowerSMS--to send scheduled messages to the same person, but it's only sending the first one.
I've tried everything. Soft resets. 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 minutes between messages. Leaving PowerSMS minimized. Closing it entirely. Leaving it open on the desktop. Plugging the phone in, leaving it unplugged but with plenty of power. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it sends a few messages. Most times, it doesn't.
Frankly, this is annoying. The phone works. Messages coming and going are not an issue, EXCEPT when PowerSMS is involved in sending them.
I posted much of this on the developer's site, and his only comment was: "That seems odd, and I don't have an answer for you right off the bat because the behavior is unpredictable. Does it help if you space the messages out a bit more (i.e. try to send them 15 minutes apart instead of 5)? Also, can you soft-reset your device to ensure the memory is clean and nothing else is running in the background? Then see if you can get it to send yourself 3 messages in a row 10-15 minutes apart. One guess is this *may* be related to the power management features of the device. It gets woken up at a certain time, sends the message and goes back to sleep and tries to wake up too quickly. Maybe this is causing the problem?"
Anyone here have any thoughts? What he says makes sense, but I have no idea where to go from there.

Thanks for the quick response, yes, I am using 1.3.
When it works, it's a brilliant little program. It just doesn't work very often. I'm tempted to ask for my money back.
You should try these two programs out. They look very promising!

mms.apk

I was wondering if on a hero build you could remove the MMS.apk and just install something like Chompsms or Handcent, would you still be able to get messages without the original messaging app sitting in the background?

What I was saying was you can just open up your original messaging app and go to settings and turn off your notification and just what other messaging app you want to use. That way when you get a new message it would just notify chompsms/handcent and not the original one. Then make chompsms/handcent your default. I would do it that way so you still got the original on there but use whichever one you want. You never know if you'll run into a problem and need the original one for a back up. I hope that makes sense, I know I was rambling.

I already do that on other hero builds and it works okay, but when I get a new text I open up cleanoid (or whatever other taskkiller I feel like using) it always shows the original messaging app as a running process and I would like to completely eliminate that so I can reduce as much memory usage as possible and receive all my messages
Ok gotcha. Well I don't have a definite answer and wouldn't want to give you a wrong one, but I would assume you could just remove. Don't know if it would give you any problems down the road. The worst thing that would happen would be to either push the mms.apk back or just reflash a rom.
From what I've been told hope this helps. If you delete the mms.apk your new one will work fine but you will loose the ability to send mms as your other messaging programs still use parts of the original to function properly. You could always try freezing the original mms program with titanium back up that way out of sight out of mind but if you should ever need it again you can just defrost it.

Yeha, I would however I cannot post there for some reason, I think I need a higher post count, So i would have to refer to this section.. I think its quite silly that they put the post count limit on.. however I guess its understandable for when newbies ask silly questions.
Try saving or deleting the voicemail instead of just dismissing it. That always seems to work for me.

i doubt that it will be a glitch in mikes rom only. mikes roms are just stock with no modifications . so if there is a glitch it should be available on all roms.
Yeah thats the thing, there was no voice mail, it just asked to set it up. Which I did, but notification was still there.
I tried to turn it off however it came back when I turned it back on.
I managed to get rid of it by clearing the cache from the settings -> apps.
I seem to be hearing a small pop noise from speaker... normal?

[Q] how to remove SMS limit per hour on Lollipop?

Hello,
I send a lot of text messages to nearly 200 contacts on a semi regular basis. I have an excellent app that does it well. The only issue is I constantly get permission messages saying I'm sending too many and if I wanna authorize more, its very annoying and if I don't accept it as soon as it comes up, will usually delay my messages.
So my question is, how do I remove/change that SMS limit on Android 5.0? IRS definitely baked into the OS cause as I said, any SMS app gets the same issue.
All help and thoughts appreciated!
- Master Ramy
PS: I tried a couple SMS limit apps on the Play Store, nothing updated for lollipop yet.

Sure, but I also understand its an adjustment somewhere in a system database file to change the limit, I found instructions for a Galaxy S3 phone, but its not in the same place. I was hoping one of the devs of said Roms could point me to the right file so I can adjust it manually on stock.

My phone is rooted and I'm on Dirty Unicorns 5.02. I'm not sure what system you're on but I've sent out 150 messages without an issue using Group SMS Pro. It will ask me to Wait or Kill the app while sending bulk sms, but I hit Wait and everything goes through. Also, I don't send much more than 200 messages at a time because even on KitKat that seemed to be an issue.
So? Did it work?

So? Did it work? I think not, but your promised update would be appreciated.
I to would like to figure out how to work around this limit. I am on Benzo rom 5.1 and under settings/security you can select 30, 50, 100 or 200 but it's a dead setting apparently because I can select 50, 100 or 200 and I still have to approve any text over 30. Did you figure out how to fix it? I tried the linked google play apps to get around but no luck so far
Flash a custom rom - like what was posted in post #2.
Other than that, you're probably out of luck, OP. Just do what anyone else here would do if they *just have to have that ability* - flash the rom.
Thanks for the reply but I will NOT flash LS because everytime I have tried it it borks my phone and I've been dumb enough to try it "one more time" too many times and paid the price. I know it's probably something I'm doing and not the roms fault but done with that one..........:cyclops:
I went back and looked at the app posted above called SMS Limit Unlock and played around a bit more. I changed the Restriction cycle time and Restriction message amount settings a few times when I was in there before but never clicked on 'Unlock'. I did that this time and it went thru a progression and then said I needed to reboot for settings to take hold. I sorta forgot that step before thinking the Unlock was to convert to the paid version of the app. I rebooted just in time to give it a try and it worked exactly as it should so I got it to work correctly.
Figured I'd post this in the thread so in case someone else does a google search on SMS limit problems and they get directed to this thread as I did, hopefully this will work for them as well. I am on Benzo 5.1 and it worked...... Yippeeeee

1. Root Phone
2. Download/Install a Different SMS(texting) app from the Google Store
I chose to use the 'Go SMS PRO app
3. Download a Root Uninstaller
I used 'Root Uninstaller Free'
4. Uninstall the stock SMS app, it's called 'Text Messaging' I believe. Can't quite remember
5. Profit!!! Just remember to check the setting in your new SMS app for any limit. In Go SMS PRO you can turn off any limit or have it save upto 100+ texts and then start deleting old ones.
I'm not really sure if uninstalling the stock app can actually cause problems, but a few people told me it Could.
It obviously worked fine on Android 5.0

Live Message Freezing

Is anybody else having issues with live Message? When I try to draw anything, it'll work for around 1 second, then it'll freeze up and crash. I've tried clearing the app data and cache, even going as fast as completely wiping my phone, but I still have the same issue.
It seems that it'll always freeze around the same spot on the time bar, so if I draw with my finger (which makes that bar go by more slowly" it'll let me draw a little bit longer.
Any suggestions?

I'm using the unlocked variant. Could this possibly be hardware? It persists through a factory reset, but maybe it has something to do with my backup.
I have the AT&T version. No problem creating them. However, I can't send them via MMS. Whatsapp seems to be able to send them just fine. I'm guessing it's a size limit thing.

Could be. I would go into a unlocked thread and see if it's only you... Of it is try a reset with no back up and see if it persist.
So I've been doing a little more testing and it seems like ALL 3D renders will crash out.

Textra has always had issues with images and MMS, so I'm not surprised it failed.
textra
so you cats would not recommend textra over stock note 8 text app?
The stock messaging app is rubbish. It's too basic and by default, it will send any text as an MMS if you dare to put even a simple emoji in there. There have been complaints for years that people are getting extra charges on their bills because of this. Now Textra is a fantastic fully loaded messaging client and I have never had any issues. It's even fully compatible with the Gear S3. I don't know about Live Message compatibility I don't really send pictures via SMS but the developers would likely look into it.
