A Possible Desktop Dock for Nexus S - Nexus S Accessories

I contacted Samsung and they said that accessories would be offered though Samsung and Google. I thought that since the Samsung Vibrant and the Nexus S had the same shape this dock would work for the Nexus S also: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECR-D979BEGSTA
Does anybody know if they can confirm this or why they think it would fit?

i question whether the ns rear "chin" and subtle curve design of handset might cause need to force usb connection and risk pin damage. just guessing...

I was wondering the same thing but if you search for an image on google of the Samsung vibrant you will find a few that show a cable plugged into the micro usb slot.
The power connection is on the top, not the bottom (no big deal) but it's also noticeably left of center, where as the Nexus S is dead center on the bottom. So i don't think this dock would work. I suppose it's possible it could be plugged in but wouldn't be supported at the bottom. Also, if you type in the model at the bottom GT-i9020 it does indicate that it would not work with this accessory.
I wish it would because i'm interested in this type of accessory too for use with the alarm clock application.

It will not work. The micro usb ports aren't positioned in the same position (not talking about one being at top and the other at bottom). On the Nexus S, it's in center while on the Vibrant, it's a little more to the left (but not exactly centered).

Thanks for the replies guys I didn't know the USB plug was off center on the Vibrant. Maybe Samsung will bring out the accessories fast like they did with the other Galaxy S phones, it should be easy since it has the basic Vibrant design.

They aren't the same shape... Wtf?? ha

at&t galaxy s2 accessories?

has anyone tried to see if the GS2 accessories (namely the car and home docks) will work with the focus s?
i lined up the phones the other day and the charging port seems to be in the same place and the focus s seems to be the same dimensions, (technically it's .03" wider, but it seems very close from me putting them on top of each other)
i really want the car and home docks, but i'm 99% sure samsung won't release specific ones for the focus.
if no one has, i may go to an att store and see if they have any i can try out.

ive been looking for a few weeks (since i got my focus s), and havent found squat. it makes me wonder if the accessory manufactures are throwing in the towel on WM. ive barely seen ANY accessories for many of the WM devices on blue, red, yellow or pink.

to be fair the only device specific accessories i've seen are for the sgs2 line and the droid branded products
htc does have some neat little docks and such for the titan and radar.
personally, i just bought a right angle usb cable and a more generic home dock and it's solved my problems for a grand total of probably $30
dock i bought (they have other colors as well)

Hardware Questions...

Well my Streak7's Charging port finally broke pins pushed in and just such a waste/poor design on the port... Ebay wants $100 for a replacement port which i can buy another unit for that... so im simply going to run a Micro USB charging port up over the left hand speaker in that lil pullout slot...
Anyways I was wondering what actually restricts us from upping the VGA resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768 is it the actual screen itself or the chip hardware..? If its just a screen can it be swapped out for a higher resolution one..?
Also I havent tried to upgrade from HoneyComb3.2 to anything newer because I need the 3g/4g Modem to work to get my Text messaging... Someone mentioned drivers or not knowing the hardware... cause it looks like a huawei EM820U Modem if that helps anyone...
Screen and then drivers in the Linux kernel.
Ok so now the research begins... finding a similar 7 inch unit with the same screen connector...
Any Idea if the Streak 5 PDMI/Charging port is the same as the Streak 7..?
Cause i can get a replacement port for a S5 for like 8 bucks opposed to the S7 for 99...
Well I know that the d7 and the d5 use the same charging cable and both work on the same dock but that does not mean the connections are the same internally. Check ifixit for a tear down for each.

If only the Samsung gtab 2 had the same dimensions you'd have a readily available one, unless you are up for case modding to fit one in
it seems 1024x600 would be the next size up all the PDFs for data specs on screens i have seen so far are 800x600 the couple i have found in 1024x600 do not have the same 40 pin connector but most of the 800x600 screens do which means these Samsung Screens are highly interchangeable... Granted the connector is the same...
As for the S5 and S7 charging port compatibility; if they use the same charging cord and even docking station then its the same "port"... its a Foxconn port/connector... Now if I was going to try and convert it to lets say an ipod/iphone connector then a "pin out" issue may be in order, but because they are the same wires and dock station i believe strongly that the S5 port will work fine on the S7... Im going to order one and still add the micro usb port to the device this way I dont have waste the life of the "port"...
While I have this thing open; does anyone need any hardware info maybe..? I know the 3g/4g modem has been an issue to get working in ICS because of drivers...
Im still lookiing for data sheets on Samsung 7 inch tft-lcd screens with high resolutions that might be a direct drop in but the info just isnt out there yet; but the hardware might actually be...

MicroUsb to USB cables

I know there are a couple threads out there concerning this cable/adapter. Most were of suggestions but no feedback. Anyone find a good one out there that works with flash drive? I know some people mentioned that the cables they found blocked the head phone jack, did anyone find one that didn't? Any information would be appreciated thanks!

i grabbed this. works perfectly. has sd, micro sd AND usb ports. I find it to be awesome to have the choice.
Go on ebay and use the following search phrase:
otg micro cable left angled
Look at the pictures carefully though in order to make sure that a) it ends in the desired USB female connector, and b) the left angle is truly left. There are some listings that are still right-angled even though the description says "left angled".
Oh, and you'll likely have to wait for shipping from China.
Also on Amazon if you search for:
SANOXY Micro USB Host Mode OTG Cable Flash Drive SD T-Flash Card Adapter
The first one in the results looks like it's angled correctly. Also from China.

That sounds awesome but unfortunately its sold out right now !
I'll try the ebay option too but we all know how trustworthy dealers are on email with electronic components. I am not in too big of a hurry for the item since Google hasn't even shipped out my Nexus 10 yet.

This is amazing. I didn't know this existed? I had seen a model from Japan that didn't have the wire at all, and kinda just sat flush with your device. (Not too flush, still jutted out quite a bit.) But either/or is good for trips when you need some extra space.
Thank you! Ordering one as soon as these mofo's go back in stock....

I know its awesome. They have plenty of those for the samsung galaxy tabs (some withe even 5 different ports) made by Samsung. However the 7 pin adapter doesn't work the nexus. I'm hoping samsung does the same (with an audio jack) for the Nexus. Kind of infuriating that there is no support from Google or Samsung insight for accessories. Especially since these attachments are what separates them from their competitors (IPad can't use a flash drive because of the power limitation)
I wonder if this might work sense the 1 above appears to be sold out:

Dock with pogo charger

Any news on this?
I havent heard of anything. Unfortunately Samsung is infamous for sucking at life at such things. Im hoping that this 3rd party pogo cable option leads to it but until then I think I am going to make my own. I ordered the cable, I will probably try and shoehorn it into an existing dock.
I really dont care for just another cable. I'll make it so its part of the dock, run the USB cable to a port and make an extension. Hopefully the end product is a dock I can leave on my desk and just drop the tablet in.
Seems so strange and bad-for-business...
Its one of the downsides of going with a Nexus device. Google still sucks at hardware delivery and the manufacturer doesn't care about making accessories for a small numbers device. If Google were bright in the hardware regard they would have learned their lessons and made the accessories part of the original contract for delivering the Nexus devices.
That makes a lot of sense actually I wonder if Samsung will ever make one or leave the making of all accessories to third parties. At least it will be a quality product if Samsung gets around to it..

I'm in the same boat. I've been hoping for a pogo dock since before I even purchased my nexus 10.
yeah I was hoping for a pogo dock with sound (and if possible HDMI) output too.
If it could be in a small design like the original iPad dock it would be brilliant.
Can't understand why no one have made this yes as it seems so obvious
N10 Pogo Dock
By the time this becomes available, our device will be obsolete.
I always thought there was a market for accessories but obviously I'm wrong concerning the N10 after becoming a reality.
Its Samsung man. Look at the other Nexus devices, those have accessories that leverage features of the devices.
I've never been a fan of accessories that only work on one or very few devices. I have a nice dock for my 1st gen Android which means it's useless for anything else.
Meanwhile a DIY dock is a better option. Once I find pogo cables for less than $20 I'll build one and redo it once I have a different device.

USB C Audio-Jack Adaptor?

Overlooked this when buying the tablet, supprised there was no adaptor included. Are they assuming all the buyers are S10 users?
Anyway, will any adaptor work or does it have to be one from Samsung?

The adaptor has to have a dac built in or it will not work with the tablet same with the note 10
The Note 10 dongle has a DAC built in. It should work for the tab s6. I have one ordered right now.
I have USB C audio adapter from Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but when i connect it to the tablet, a message appears that the usb device is not supported.
I have S5e, but it should apply S6
I have few different USB C headset adapter for Pixel and HTC U11 Life, both work as it's supposed to
As much as I hate to say it, the cheap Apple one is one of the best you can get unless you're willing to spend quite a bit more. Did a bunch of reading after I ordered my Note 10+, tests put the Apple one ahead of the Google ones and plenty of others that cost 5 times as much as the Apple one. Works well, but as with all things Apple the cable is going to fray within a year. I added a silicone stress relief that covered the entire cable since I had a bag of them, maybe it'll last two years.
have 2 of those
none are working with korean LTE S6
any idea why?
thanks
Bought this one works perfectly.

This model works on the N10, S8, and my laptop via Type C. My S6 hasn't arrived, but it would likely function given the devices I mentioned. Sound quality is great with my KZ earbuds.

Oddly enough, the Middle eastern versions (and most probably Europeans) got a type C headphones in the box, i myself bought from Bahrain and we got a type C headphones, albeit the cheap kind but hey it works
USB C connector has analog headphone connection
They are switched in with some sense ID magic, but there is left, right, and microphone analog wires. You can find the details in a search.
Any cheap (non-DAC) headphone adapter should work as it is just the right wiring and maybe a few resistors on the right pins. I have one that works.
I purchased 2 and both make hissing soumd, One was noname, the other Baesus make both ****.
