[ROM] Doc's modded XXJK8 V1 (22/12-10) - Nexus S Android Development

I made a superslim version of the XXJK8.
Its a VERY simple first version, and a full rom vill follow.
This "rom" will overwrite system/app and system/framework folders, add the fonts and this is all.
So should be pretty safe.
BUT TAKE BACKUP!, and make sure you understand the risks.
Features:
Fully deodxed frame and apps (thanks Eugene 373 and Paul for the missing frame bits)
Png's optimized
Zipaligned
Added:
Zeam
Dark MMS
Aosp music
Zune fonts
Removed:
Car home
Geniewidget
Earth
Launcher2
Live walls
Maps
Microbes
Music google
NFS
Protips
Soundrecorder
Thinkfree
Youtube
Install guide:
Place rom.zip on sd
Install Koush recovery (if you dont have any other custom recovery)
Take backup
Install Koush root
Mount system
Install zip from CW recovery
Reboot

Koush Recovery is Clockwork Recovery, there isn't any difference between the two. It's the same thing. People usually call it "Clockwork Recovery" anyway.
Clockwork Recovery is developed by koush

So we basically have to mount system before we flash this?
Also do we wipe system data/cache etc?

So if I flash this on top of my current ROM what happens ? By that I mean should I wipe first ?
Edit: Never mind just re-read the description.

Hi,
I wonder, is there any way for me to use the dark MMS apk with the updated Nexus S stock image? I could install it just fine on the phone pre-OTA upgrade, but after the update has been applied it will no longer install :-(

fast work doc, been using your sgs roms since july - I have never found any roms i like more than yours
have you any screenshots of this rom, and does it have circle battery or other % indicator ?
Also is it possible to port your sgs transparent notification bar with the quick controls at the top?
Merry christmas

Hi Doc,
Just wanted to say a 'Welcome' in the Nexus S section
Happy flashing & merry X-Mas

Exactly what I was looking for. That only I question I have is, which recovery is this? If this had 2e recovery it would be the perfect rom.

Is it 2e recovery? I flashed the jk6 leak through odin from the other thread and it was 3e recovery, so unless the OP of this thread added 2e recovery to this edition of the rom or simbionix did, it should be 3e.

is anyone having troubles with their Compass? After flashing this my compass dosen't even detect anything (ie: north is always pointing up)

[Q] need help with themes and boot

I'm a noob to flashing and roms, but i am rooted and running the evil fascination rom. first theme i put on was nitro's honeycomb. i have flashed probably 8 or themes since then, and i always wipe cache and delvik before each one. My issue is the past 3 themes i have flashed on there, some of the icons are no longer changing, such as youtube, camera, and gallery for some. they are stuck as icons from cyanbread. how can i get this fixed? And also since the first honeycomb theme, my power off screen shows current theme animation, then shows the honeycomb animation. how can i get the honeycomb screen off? Thanks for your help and advice.
Sometimes when flashing themes over other themes some of the old theme stays so the best to do is when flashing a new theme I found is best to reflash the rom then the new theme. This will make sure the old theme is no longer there.

You should make a nandroid backup... just in case. That way if you ever mess up or something goes wrong, you can always go back to a good setup you had before.
got it done. Thanks guys, it helped a ton.

To learn the differences just read the two threads....The Comm ROM is for me a better performing ROM with more options as he said and a full Gingerbread theme built in....no need to flash an external theme unless you want a completely different look...
Speed and battery are similar depending on your usage etc....its more subjective as far as that goes because every user experiences differences in performance...
To change Roms you can simply flash in recovery after making a backup, wiping is optional but you may experience issues if you do not do a full wipe...at the least you want to wipe cache and dalvik cache in advanced option per CWMR and you can use Titanium Backup to backup your apps/data prior to wiping

well it has nothing to do with the theme and LPro is def a good launcher to run....in COMM ROM there are setting in TSM settings that allow you to turn off auto rotate for the Launcher2 thats included as well as in settings/display on the phone itself....
Kendall you might be new but you will learn fast and you are getting answers from 2 very smart people nitsuj & tapout. You will just have to flash different Roms to see which you like better. Both Comrom and EF are great Roms but basically to each their own and also you might find your battery is better with one or the other. Just keep asking questions and you will before you know it have a better handle on all this. I read these pages everyday and i ask questions. Now i want to learn to theme, even just to make my phone the way i want. Have fun and be glad you are getting answers from these amazing people.

[Recovery] Clockworkmod 6.0.1.4 Testrelease (obsolete) Official in last post.

Hey guys, I just compiled CWM v6.0.1.4 from here: http://builder.clockworkmod.com/
You gotta add the files manually, since building from known source somehow doesnt wanna work.
PLEASE REMEMBER, I am not responsible for ANY kind of damage. You are responsible for what you're doing with your device, not me... So dont blame me, if you screw it up
It's a kind of alpha release, since it might still be pretty buggy. I just let it compile, flashed it to the device and made some tests. Seems to work fine
I made a package of a simple flasher (made by Redy2006, so all credits for the flasher go to him. Find it here
Credits go to:
Koush (ClockWorkMod)
Ricardo (Simply the best)
Ilko (Script)
All makers and contributors of: http://builder.clockworkmod.com/
Seems Redy took the flash .bat file from Ilko.
Get the new Recovery + Flasher here: http://www.mediafire.com/?lpa8aisgtli9v78
MD5 Checksum of recovery.img: 291e313fe2b891a04d246357d656045a
MD5 Checksum of the whole .7z file: 8578e0a0839cbba06edbff601311a1eb
If the above solution doesnt wanna work, take this: http://www.mediafire.com/?k544q9t2db1lv2e No thanks goes to koila33
Known bugs:
Flashing softkeys.
I gotta find out, how I can compile it myself (without the homepage and then try to fix bugs). If you feel like improving this, just go ahead
Changelog:
New backup format that de-duplicates data between backups.
Faster backups.
Fixed restores > 2GB.
Minor UI tweaks (new background, animated Android)
My changelog:
Initial release
any changelogs ??
Added sorry, forgot about it in the hurry
Nice.
Thanks.

It should be possible but we need a different bootloader. It loads the boot.img then goes to recovery so if that fail aka you have bootloop or somthing then you can't access recovery.

yeah, the power menu is jacked up but other than that it is a lot better since it will not have anything looking for the radio and stuff. It is very nice for me so far. This weekend I plan on sitting down and fixing the power menu, it is just the wording that is wrong, the stuff works, put a screen shot up of what the options are

All smooth, installation smooth, rom smooth, didnt have to do any mods to it as I had to with the N8000 rom - sweet no bugs or glitches so far, no having to change governer etc, feels great.
One curious thing though... when going to settings/app/manager/all it still lists contacts, phone app, sim settings and other telephony stuff!
Whats that about, is it still going to be looking for radio and stuff ie sucking battery etc???

[RECOVERY] TWP 2.8.5.0 for One Mini 2

This a build of TWRP for One mini 2.
Team Win Recovery Project 2.x, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
You can read more about TWRP on their Homepage

Well done, now we only have to wait for someone to make some ROMs.
I've been looking at the CM website but still no One Mini 2 in supported list.
Sense 6 is the first manufacturer ROM that I want to not replace!

thanks i downloaded again and it worked.
when i uninstall system apps they return after reboot do you know anyway to stop this thanks chris
You can not uninstall system apps. First: it make no sense, because after the next update they come back, second: your system partition is read only. Deactivate it and ready!

EDIT: Err, replied to the wrong post. Yes, the backups will restore just fine. The link above is for a stock kernel with write protection disabled.
