[Q] Noob question about "wipe" - Liquid S100 General

What exactly does "wipe" option do in malez recovery mode?
And am I suppose to do a wipe before flashing the rom, or after I flash a rom?

It erase all data of the previous os left somewhere in some cache (more or less), I do it AFTER flashing a new rom.

Wipe question

Quick question -
When wiping to flash a new ROM, the option to choose is just the factory restore right?
Usually people using the term Wipe are referring to the factory/dalvik options from Recovery.
Yeah that's what I'm referring to as well. But there are a couple of options in Recovery for a wipe - just making sure I've been choosing the correct one.
Ok, Factory is what you need.

[Q] What do I need before I flash DarkKnight ICS?

I have to post here because I can't post in the direct thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510940
How do I actually install this? I've flashed ROMs before and I assume I can flash this one through CWM but it doesn't say what base OS you need to have running on the phone in order to flash it.
What rom are you currently running? If you are running one of the ics asop roms then I think you are good to go

I Suggest if you come from Stock ROM
Flash a Kernel with CWM (CF-ROOT kernel with Addon, my Favorite) with Odin/Heimdall
Boot into CWM Recovery Mode
WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET
WIPE CACHE PARTITION
Flash latest CyanogenMod (be sure, you do it with full version)
Boot into CWM Recovery Mode
WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET
WIPE CACHE PARTITION
Flash the DarkKnight ICS
Have Fun !
I know it isn't the Best Way, but it surely will do if you like that !
Don't forget to thanks [if it useful was for you]

I was more asking which ROM to come from.
I ended up flashing 2.3.5 JVT and then this over the top of Semaphore kernel.

Ready to flash any custom rom?

so i have rooted by my xxla6 note, cf-root with cwm, am i safe to flash any rom now? looking to flash checkrom, so i just follow the following instruction?
Q: I'm coming from a different ROM how can i install this ROM ?
A: Follow the steps below
Get into the CWM recovery
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Install the wipe version of this ROM
Yes, that what I did for my rooted GB rom. In fact I just went through the wipe once and I had no problem. However you should follow the instruction from their website.
Normally you can just boot to recovery, flash the rom you like ie. CheckRomHD, then wipe data/cache/Dalvik (no need to wipe battery stats) and reboot.
If you get stuck in a bootloop or getting other weird issues you can reboot to recovery and do the 3-wipe again.
You just stick to what the CheckRom Dev wrote, and follow his instructions to the letter.
Completely disregard alternative ways you have been offered here.
And you guys, please don't try to confuse a man who is already uncertain of how to flash
by offering other options. What a Dev says is always the right way.

[Help]Stuck up with Recovery!!

Hi all,
Got a strange problem.. I'm using Nik project x v4.1 with .11 radio...today i got poor network signal, so I flashed radio again n it's working fine.
Then I planned to flash xcs kernel 2.2 and faceunlock for this Rom.
When I am recovery, I got message like. "You are in safe mode, please wipe cache. If u flashed hboot.img then format system"
I took nandroid and
1. fixed permission
2. Wiped cache
3. Format system
4. Flashed both zip files
When everything got over and upon clucking power menu->reboot got alert
"You are In safe mode. Unable to access system partitions. Please format system partition except sd. Reboot in recovery. Yes or no"
I clicked no and followed steps to install new Rom (wipe data factory, wipe cache n dalvik, format system, format partition except sd )restored my nandroid backup and again got same message that
"You are In safe mode. Unable to access system partitions. Please format system partition except sd. Reboot in recovery. Yes or no"
Please help me. Worrying that my mobile will be bricked. Please guide me to get rid off this..
Edit: I clicked reboot and my mobile booted normally. But under power menu, on clicking reboot, got into same problem. Please help me to avoid this. Worry something wrong in my mobile!!

When you formatted the /system partition, you wiped out Nik's ROM and then you only flashed a new kernel and a patch. That is why it you get the Unable to access system partitions.
You need to flash Nik's ROM again, then flash the kernel and then flash the patch.

Thanks tpbklake. Before formatting systems partition, I have taken nandroid backup. I restored nandroid but after that too, I got same alert.
Ok, I'll start from beginning. After flashing Nik Rom again, can I restore data.img from my nandroid.?

Do you have any idea on this? I got this before flashing anything.

You changed the radio. Either gb -> ics or ics -> gb and this causes some change in the partition layout that's why recovery is asking you to format. What I don't understand is why you didn't just format the cache partition like it told you to. It would have saved us all some time.

I haven't changed the radio of two different versions. Earlier I was in ICS radio .11M and again flashed the same ICS radio..11M) Yes, I did cache format as well as instructed.
While flashing radio which supports same OS version, am I need to wipe cache or its not required?

If that's what the recovery is telling you to do, I would be inclined to agree.

thanks. also, what if i flash one custom rom, and then i decided i want to use another, how can i do that?
Follow the instructions of that ROM these are described in the thread itself
Common ones:
- Download ZIPfiles and put them on SD card
- Reboot in recovery
- Wipe Data and cache (factory reset)
- Wipe System
- Wipe Dalvik cache (can be found under advanced)
- Flash ROM
- Reboot device
- Enjoy
Just do full wipe and flash the rom...also u need to pay attention if a custom rom requires an unlocked bootloader
