the hd2 is a windows mobile phone, nobody has ported android to it yet
if you insist on torturing yourself with that, watch the action here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651632
nexus one or mytouch, or mytouch slide if youre staying on tmobile
evo if you switch to sprint
droid incredible or droid if your moving to verizon
in my humble opinion
by the way, the devs have not moved on to other devices, froyo will be available on the G1 in the next few weeks from cyanogen
and if you're up for an upgrade with Tmobile, you can get the nexus1 for like 189 if you order it online from google

WinMo to Android?

Hey Guys!!!
Ive been a Winmo user for a very long time now and currently using an Htc HD2,
I have been offered the chance to trade my phone with an unlocked Nexus One running a 2.2 Froyo, but the deal is i dont have enough knowledge on Androids.
I can manage myself with all winmo devices like flashing roms, games ,apps etc.
Is the Android OS the same?what adjustment will i face?

Just one adjustment, similar to adjusting from a village hole-in-ground toilet to a 5-star penthouse restroom with a built-in hooker.
Yeah. You'll learn to endure it.
If you want to try Android you can just try the port for the HD2
An even trade??? You're the winner with that trade. WinMo is junk compared to. Android 2.2.

Thats what im waiting for also, its not an even trade, its my hd2 plus $200 cash.
maybe soon the hd2 will have the stable android OS from the developers here.
I was in a simular boat, and found Android an easy progressive fun transition! Tons of support threads here, so go for it and never look back!
There is a learning curve that's for sure. but you should go on with this trade while this person is still on drugs.
I used WinMo for a long time before Android although I think starting Android as soon as it launched eased the curve but you wont regret it, words can't express how much more fun, faster, more stable and ultimately easier Android is to use than WinMo.

HD2 AND $200? I dunno about that.. see if you can haggle it down some.
Well I was in the same position as the OP. I built my own custom roms for WinMo and had an extensive knowledge about hacking them....
Then I came to Android
Now I don't have to. Vanilla Android on the Nexus One is just simply amazing. I never get fustrated waiting for it to open an app or wish it did something differently. I've unlocked the bootloader on my old phone and did the SD Card Trick on my new one to gain root access and play around with custom roms... but the kicker is I like the Stock OS the best.
Right now I am running a "custom" stock firmware which is rooted and uses a black taskbar theme... but it doesn't contain any extra apps or features.
I can't scream loud enough to express how I feel for the awesomeness of Android. The OS is a dream. Customizable to no end. Very easy to replace default dialers, messaging apps, facebook apps, launchers, etc. I know a few friends with N1's and they all look completely different. I love it.
I've used Windows Mobile all the way from 2002, popped in on Blackberries from time to time, Symbian, and touched the iPhone long enough to realize it sucks.... but Android is just amazing. I couldn't recommend any other OS. Even my non-techie wife has her Android all tricked out. Its just easy to do.
2.2 brings in full fucntionality with exchange support, making it a viable alternative to winmo for enterprise users. If you are a power user, now is the time to convert.
I've owned WinMo and iPhone previously. People always compare Android to the latter. But Android really reminds me of what WinMo could have been if Microsoft had a clue. I think you will adjust without a problem. Go for it!

x2 - always how I've felt about it. I switched from winmo to android, N1 being my first device. You won't look back, and with windows mobile 7 looking the way it is, I doubt you'll be wanting to jump back in their bed anytime soon.
Go for it without any hesitations. They are not even comparable. You are about to trade Zaporozhets for an Audi. You will not look back.

new to WP7...should i get an HD7?

i was thinking of getting an HD7 from craigslist for $275. first of all, and most importantly, is this a fair price? second, i was wondering if you guys can tell me what the HD7 can do in terms of hacking/jailbreak/root (whatever you call it for WP7) and custom roms. also, i want to know if the phone can be unlocked easily. i'm a complete noob on WP, but know my way around android and ios, so thought i might try something different. thanks.

275 isn't bad for a 2 month old phone. As for unlocking, the only form of unlocking, besides SIM, is developer unlocking to sideload any xap you want. At the moment the HD7 is damn near fully functional. Just the other day the guys on here unlocked the secret to tethering on HTC WP7s. We've got registry editors, file explorers, mass storage hack, custom colors for any part of the theme, custom ringtones/alarms/alerts, desktop-device file transfer, copy and paste (coming in the update)...so were doin well. No custom Roms as far as I know though. Unnecessary really. Don't wanna end up with buggy, laggy crap like Android...

Don't know what WM7 is but WP7 is much smoother and is faster in general than Android, thanks in part to a GPU accelerated UI. Android has a few features that WP7 doesn't have at the moment but its also 3 years older than the 2 month old WP7.
Android is a fantastic UI, no way you can knock it and the application market is now as huge as the mighty Apples, but I can't see where the development is going on Android, seems the next big step will be not gingerbread with its small additions, but a form of Honeycomb for non tabs, I feel that Android for me seems ever so slightly old, comfortable and roomy, where as WP7 is young, sporty and ready for more and the UI maybe basic, but its fresh and lively to use which makes using it a joy, so I would say going for any WP7 phone at the moment is a good choice.

you should deffo get a HD7 as thus far it is the best phone out. I really wanted the samsung omnia 7 but was forced down the hd7 route instead and since doing so i have used the omnia and can say it was the right path for me. Though the phone is quite massive it actually feels very slim and much nicer in the hand as well as looking much sexier.
Correct or not, an HD7 sounds better, as the letter H is pronounced 'aitch'. Since you make the A sound, it seems natural to throw an in front of it.
275 isn't a bad deal. Worst case you could sell it to a third party type phone company. I know of one that currently pays 200 for HD7's.

that HD2 is running the updated ROM coming out next week, of course it'll be faster.
Are you on t mobile? If so and you aren't rushed to get one right away I would say to wait and see for the rumored HTC Mozart that supposedly is coming out very soon. That's what I'm waiting on.

I've only heard about defects with that phone. Never played with one in person though.
$275 is a great deal considering I bought my fiance an HD7 for $300 off craigslist a few weeks ago.
the Venue Pro not the regular Venue?
Nevermind... I trotted on over to the DVP forum...
yeesh. just bought my boss an 8 gig model earlier today... let's hope it doesn't have these issues!!

All the issues and the size of the phone are reasons why I want to look elsewhere for windows phone 7 phone. Otherwise, I do like the phone.

I would say, that you should go for the HD7. It's without any doubt the WP7 device at the moment. Great, big screen, fast OS and much, much more things. I'm totally satisfied with the HD7 although games load a little bit slow. But with the NoDO-Update, games should get a boost from what I've seen. And the HD2-thing: I can't hear it anymore! "Buy a HD2", "If you want a good phone, then buy the HD2". The only good OS that you can have on the HD2 is WP7, 'cause Android on the HD2 is laggy and WM is pretty crappy anyways. And WP7 is the HD7's stock-OS. So, why should one buy the HD2?

I made the change

I loved my touch pro 2 and hated android.. then I gave in and got the mt4g now I have used my upgrade and got a hd7 it arrives on Wednesday I been reason alot about and am hoping its not something ill grow tired of fast.. I like windows and the whole idea they are going with. Just hope updates start coming semi soon cuz what I have read is that some small things are missing.

Anyone still happy with hd7 and wp7?

Hi everyone I'm just wondering if there are some of you who are still happy with your hd7 and wp7 in general. I had an hd7 before the nodo update and ended up trading for a mt4g. For the short time I loved the phone but it was lacking some features I was used to. Ive been using android since the g1 and pretty much have had all android phones on T-Mobile. I guess I'm getting a little bored with android and I'm thinking about going back to wp7. Should I go ahead and pick up an hd7 or should I wait until mango is out?
Also did nodo really make that much of a difference?

Hi dnguyen1988,
I have a HD7 and am very happy with it, the performance of the handset and the O/S are slick as hell and the Mango Beta i have on it is a massive improvement to the already worthy (in my opinion) daily driver.
However i can tell you that as soon as Nokia release their WP7 (Sea Ray?) handset i will be selling the HD7 and grabbing one of those with both hands. Carl zeiss optics and decent speakers/volume are what they are going to bring to the table, maybe more but just the better camera and speakers will be enough for me.
So in short my opinion would be to wait and see what they release withy official Mango.
Hope this helps,
Creamy
Thanks I think that's what I'm going to do I've always heard good things about Nokia hardware so hopefully the searay will be awesome. Do u know what kind of display it'll use?

With the latest firmware/radio update from HTC combined with Mango 7712 this thing is like a new Phone. I'm quite happy with it and look forward to the official Mango update.
I'm happy with mine except my phone is too sensitive if i touch at the back cover especially at the bottom part it always vibrate and goes to Bing.Sent for repair and was told that the mobo have a problem so they change it to new one.But it still happens once in awhile.I think it's not the mobo it's a bug from the wp7.
I still love my HD7. It has only gotten better over time. With Mango 7712, it's almost perfect.
USB Storage and tethering were my two biggest gripes. USB Storage was fixed using USB Storage Enabler (not full-fledged USB Storage mode but good enough for transporting files). Tethering was there with DFRouter until Mango disabled it. Sucks but not a deal breaker for me.
I liked Android too but will never go back after using my HD7 for 8 months or so. WP7 has everything Android does, it just does it better.
i have an HD7, however i've not upgraded to mange beta yet, which brings a lot things to WP.
i think without mango, android is far far better than WP7,
all you got with WP7 is a nice user interface, which android has a theme exactly like that and you could simulate WP7 even with android.
regards
Must Say Mango is brilliant on the HD7 its like a new phone.......
I am waiting for the official release of MANGO as the BEta is just brilliant.
But I would suggest you wait for the Nokia Phones, I am definately grabbing one cause nokia does the best hardware.
and Mango will rock for sure

Hi, I found that my Android device did not sync calendar and contacts properly with OUTLOOK on my notebook, which I need professionally. Additionally I could not import my EXCEL and POWERPOINT data. So, I purchased an WP7 device in strong belief that this would solve my problems. But alas, WP7 has a sexy UI but is such a weak OS (including the rudimentary Office package), missing manifold capabilities. Now I am completely disappointed. I cannot understand, how anyone can design a smartphone which falls far back the features of Win Mobile ? Though he sounds much more enthusiastic, I recommend to read Peter Bright's review on the website of arstechnica. Android at least offers a huge bundle of apps, which can help to find a reasonable solution to most (but not all) problems. In comparison Microsoft's marketplace seems to be a kindergarten with mostly toys and few serious apps.
Anyone who now uses a WIN Mobile device for professional reasons shall be extremely cautious before purchasing a WP7 device: it is not comparable at all.
My HD7 is currently on the sidelines waiting for the Mango update. I have a HTC Sensation that is pulling daily duty right now. I'm excited for the new release on WP7. This is the first phone I distort sell when it was time to get a new one. My Sensation better enjoy its time in the spotlight as it will have to move aside when I go back to WP7.
My single-core Snapdragon Windows Phone runs just as smooth, if not more, as my dual-core 1.5ghz Sensation. WP7 is great.

this is my second time send my HD7 for servicing.1st due to sensitivity always go to previous page or go to Bing.Today send again due to device can't switch on.I was told it was a hardware problem. (for both)
I'm on my third HD7 since January.
They aren't very rugged, but look pretty.
I like the large display, but don't like to try reaching acrossed it with my thumb when doing other activities.
Ive had a number of issues, Screen sensitivy, Call completion, and Blue Tooth failures.
I'm in the process of moving to a new phone again...with four email accounts and calendars, it is a realy PITA event.
I know a ton of people who own WP7s and most like the Samsung on ATT best.
Loving my HD7 even more with the offical Mango release.
Very happy with my HD7 and Mango, but I would really like some new hardware similar to my Sensation.
