I was trying to get ringtones to work with out the media scanner and Astro file manager combo. Here's what I did to get them to appear andwork all the time.
1. Moved all my files from my sdcard to my Computer.
2. Downloaded HP Formatting Tool at this URL http://dl.commentcamarche.net/en.kioskea.net/download/files/SP27608-2.1.8.exe
3. Formatted my Sdcard into Fat32
4. Replaced my files onto sdcard
5. Rebooted Android
6. Checked Ringtone list and to my surprise It Works!
7. Set my Ringtone, Alarm, and Notifacation!!
8.Enjoy
That's interesting
I went to go do this with mine and realized that my card was already in Fat32, I forgot I had changed it some time ago
I can't get any options besides 'silent' though
I'm using a Pure and the astro file scanner thing works for me, but this does not
Are your android files in /sdcard or /sdcard/andboot? I have mine in /sdcard but it was in /sdcard/andboot before i formatted. Maybe this has something to do with it, but i'm really not sure Everything else i did is in the list. Please try and if it works i will update the list. Thnx
i just installed a rom on my phone, and my ringtones are being listed twice when im browsing ringtones in the sounds&display setting...i tried rebooting but it still shows up twice..is there anyway of fixing this?
Is it possible that you have them in more than one folder? Like /ringtones and /notifications? That would definitely cause it...

Ok i had the same problem. but i had duplacate rintones that came with the phone not the ones i added
look in folder on the sd card /media/ringtone.
once in that folder look and see if there are stock ringtones in that folder if so delete them because the stock ringtones should be in the root of the phone not the sd card
pm me if you need any more help
hi, ive got a problem that i cannot seem to sort myself.
ive got custom ringtones stored on my SD card that i have been using for a while.
whenever the phone was connected to my PC, in mass storage mode [beacuse Kies wont work, dont get me started on that!] the rington and message alerts would go to default [a load of beeping] as the SD card could not be accessed, upon unplugging they went back to normal.
a couple of days ago this stopped working, and now i cannot set custom ringtones or message alerts no matter what i try! i have rebooted, uninstalled a load of my latest apps, formatted SD card and still no luck.
the only thing that i have chnaged is that i bought a new SD card [16gb instead of 8], but i have formatted this both in and out of the phone.
can anyone help!!
thanks Matt
You have mounted the card again (sorry if a daft question)?
i have had this happen periodically when the sd card that they are stored on unmounts or something.. bringing up the system to set the ringtone crashes..
the only way i got around it was bringing up the settings changing the notification and voice etc. ringtone to a built in system tone.. then bringing it up again and resetting to the correct ringtone.
if you stop media scanning
or have added the file .nomedia to the folder where your ring tones are located
then the phone will not see the ringtone
you can download the Media Scanner on/off switch to fix that

I did have a .nomedia file in the folder but I cannot download the file to my phone, it says that it cannot complete the download as its a file format that the phone doesn't recognise! ?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
install Astro File manager or Attachment to SD plug in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8139934&postcount=56 also works
both of those will let you save files to the phone from the browser/email
Well, its sorted
Got rid of the .nomedia file, opened the filer with the mp3 with '01 file manager' and added it as a ringtone...AND IT WORKED!
However...i downloaded that file from the market and it still wouldn't key met save that file, hmmmm I'll gave to download it on my comp I think.
Thanks for all the help guys, really chuffed now

I tried inserting them into system/media/audio/ringtones but it said system read only. Any idea how I can use these files as ringtones?
Root your phone, and mount /system as read/write...
If you are just wanting these to show up in your ringtone/notification tone selection screens, you can add alarms, notifications, and ringtones folders to your sdcard and put them in there. If you want to keep your sdcard even cleaner, you can put them all under a media folder.
Hi,
I have a question regarding media storage location of Whatsapp - I don't necessarily expect a solution but would like to at least verify the behaviour on other phones.
My old android device (Sony Ericsson SK17i) saved the Whatsapp media files to the external SDCard.
I bought a S3 mini this week and noticed a difference: Whatsapp media files are not stored on external SDCard anymore, but on the internal storage. I guess that this comes from the internal storage being presented as SDCard0, so maybe Whatsapp thinks that this is in fact the external SD-Card.
Can somebody with S3 mini check how this behaves with his phone? Within Whatsapp I didn't find a way to configure this, can anyone think of a solution to that?
Many thanks in advance.

mine saved on phone internal too....and i'am afraid there's no setting from within whatsapp to store in external sd card....however you can reduce space by using directory bind....search around and you will find it.....directory bind or link2sd should do it....

ok, thanks for double-checking, I was afraid so. I don't want to link the whole app to sd card, but directory bind sounds like a very good idea, I haven't thought of that.
FolderMount (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122) did the trick. Thanks!

How do you managed to make the default Image preview program to work properly?
I marked the "Media verification" checkbox on the folder mount configuration so that de SD Card folder wouldn't appear on the image preview program, but now I only can see some black thumbs with no image "attached" that points to internal memory.
Did any of this happened to you? Or something similar with the images or how you see them?
in my S4
whenever i open this app , notifications comes saying :
checking for root ......
exit
and nothing happens !
install GL to SD from google play and move the data from sdcard0 to ext and link it

This seems like a solution to my problem- moved my whatsapp media folder using the manual settings in Gl to SD, but it seems wonky. I took a picture of myself and sent it to someone, and it worked fine. Image is stored in my "sent" folder on the card, which also shows up in internal if I browse there with an explorer. I click on the image in whatsapp, it becomes full screen.
But when someone sends ME an image, it seems to never download. I see the thumbnail, I click it, and then it says that the media is not found on the SD card.
Sure enough, I browsed the folder in explorer (hooked up to my computer as PTP, browsing in windows 7) and the file isn't there. Only the one that I originated. I tried to create a file there, and it actually timed out on me and said device wasn't available. So it seems to sometimes work but not other times? How strange!

it seems you have root permission problem. you may try to fix permission via custom recovery. GL to SD is working fine and i'm able to download additional data on ext SD.

Ah, that might have been it.
In the mean time I gave up, removed it and went with foldermount, linked above. Works just fine out the door, cleaner UI too.
Move WhatsApp Media To External SD Card
This App automatically redirects WhatsApp media to the External SD Card in order to save memory: I cannot post the link, but you can search Nicola Rosada On Play Store and download Photo & File Redirect.

I got foldermount and used it to mount data/obb folders from some apps to my ext SD card. But this is what i get for whatsapp: The data and obb options are greyed out so i cant select them and it says there is no data to begin with (0 B). How did you do it? Thanks
Thanks for saving me to ask this question. My son has a SG Grand Prime SM-G530H and is facing the same problem.
