[Q] After Rooted How to Home Icons and Keyboard Language?? - Nook Color General

Hello Guys,
I have rooted my NC. Everything is working as expected. Now I want to put some app icons on Home but I can't find how to do that.
Also the Keyboard setting is not working. If I go to Settings > Keyboard the NC go back to the prevous screen. I need to stop the auto-correct or change the language for autocorrect.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Regards,
Jorge

You'll need a 3rd party launcher to put icons on your homescreen (launcher pro,adw, zeam...).
The keyboard setting isn't working because rooting switched it to a new keyboard. It should work fine when you open a text field. There are threads on here about installing a variety of different keyboards.

Thanks wvcachi, I have installed another launcher and now I'm able to organize the home screen. Now I need to solve the issue with the keyboard. The keyboard is working well, the problem is the auto-correct, the is changing my words when I write in another language (spanish).
Can I just stop the auto correct?
Can I revert to the original Keyboard on NC?
Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem, I need to change the language of the keyboard, but I cannot get into the settings. I've tried different keboards, but with none I can change the particular settings nor language.

Hello, I got the fix downloading and installing a GBKB.APK from another sub-forum here (not nook subforum, I think android Dev subforum) after install that I'm able to select and use the gingerbread keyboard. Now in gb kb there is setting button where you can add another languages.
I hope this work for you.
Regards

The language of auto-correct is tied to the keyboard. Autonooting gives you the Droid X keyboard with American English autocorrection.
You can install a Chinese IME, Spanish keyboard, AZERTY with French auto-correct, or whatever else you desire. As the previous poster mentioned, there is a modified Gingerbread keyboard for 2.1 that includes Spanish dictionary. You can search for it in the Nook Color forums (the keyboard is from another forum, but there are directions for NC here). It's a very long thread, but the directions in the OP should work.

You can install Smart Keyboard or SwiftKey from the market (and moving the app to the System/app directory), and then, from the keyboard, enter to the specific settings.
In Smart Keyboard you have to long press the ABC or 123 key to enter settings, and in SwiftKey you have to long press the mic key. There you can change the language or disable autocorrect.
Additionally, if you want, you can change the language of the nook color (so that all programs menus and dates and stuff appear in spanish) using morelocale2 from the market.

[Q] Fast way to change or switch your Keyboard Language?

I've been hunting this issue on XDA but I've not found a solution, it's the eternal issue of keyboard switcher. I speak several languages, like a lot of people here. It is a royal pain to manually switch from english to french to spanish and back and forth. everytime i want to write in one language i have to change the entire locale.
So far, I found this:
-apowersms (if you go to setting, there is a language filter, which is very interesting because you can choose which language keyboard you need) (and the keyboard layout isn't so bad looking)
- softkeyboard (for the keyboard button, when you press it long, you can directly change to the language you want)
I'm trying to find, how to create a custom shortcut maybe to switch between the languages that I speak. something like this, so that I can switch languages for my gingerbread keyboard.
Does anyone out there have a better solution for my problem. let me know.
thanks
Using stock keyboard, go to the keyboard settings and search for something like "languages". Select the languages you want to use. Now swipe your finger on the space key to switch between the selected languages

[Q] How to chane languages with the QWERTY keyboard on a milestone?

Hello.
I have a Motorola Milestone running CM7.
My problem is that I need to use another language other than English with it but can't change the typing language when using the physical QWERTY keyboard.
In the language settings both English and the other language are selected and I can switch between them when using the virtual keyboard.
The physical keyboard has a lang changing button but after flashing CM7 it turned into "menu".
Trying to change that using an option in OpenRecovery made the whole keyboard stop working.
However if I install AnySoftKeyboard from the market and use it, I can use Shift+Alt on the physical keyboard to change layouts.
Anyone knows how to change the language on the physical keyboard while using "Android Keyboard" as an input method?
want to know too.
I have same this issue ..

and waiting for the developer to solve it..!!!!
Hello.
I am not familiar with your device(XT702) but in CM7 for milestone ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941346 ) by kabldan starting with version 7.1.0.3, the language key can be used to change between languages as it was intended.
He managed to make it work so it might be a good idea to address him with this subject.

The Beta worked for about 14 days, and then the phone started doing some random hangs. and after not being able to type anything in a SMS i changed the keyboard back, and my phone is now normal.
Cool keyboard, but might cause problems....
when the beta stops working you might want to try Perfect Keyboard, and Smart keyboard, they have similar options, except importing SMS into dictionary.
Thanks for it
I will try and see

Go Keyboard problems
1. I use the speech recognition a lot. When I set the Voice Key to 'On main keyboard' I loose the Comma key.
Is there any way I can get both the voice key and the comma key on the main screen?
2. When I use the voice recognition (the Voice Recognition is great, 90% or better) but if I try to edit the phrase it shows because a letter is incorrect. I put the cursor to the right of the letter and hit backspace or space and it pastes the whole phrase in again in the middle of the phrase I am trying to edit. Any idea how to avoid this?
I really like Go Keyboard, but these 2 things are driving me nuts.

Mark

How does it compare to Swype?

[Q] How to set SWYPE as default keyboard?

Hi,
I couldn't find solution for my problem so I made that thread.
I'm freaking out when I reboot my phone, wanna send message or something and ******* android default keyboard comes up. I must go back, go to the settings, laungage & keyboard and, set swype as default and then change input method. Can I replace system keyboard app with SWYPE? If yes then how?
Delete LatinIME.apk from /system/app
Amazing, it worked! Thanks. Problem solved.
No problem, you could delete Userdictionaryprovider too since its only used for the stock keyboard.
[Q] How to make transparent status bar?
made post not thread, sorry -.-
Now I am using KM Launcher (swype in portrait and smart keyboard pro in landscape mode) and again I must check everytime this keyboard in settings after reboot. What should I do?

Swype as default keyboard
Simply ensure that swype is not installed to SD card.
Then, go to settings and set Swpe as default keyboard
When using keyboard, for the 1st time after this,
Long press TAB and again select Swype.
That is it

This is very easy. If you install Morelocale2 app, you will get Russian keyboard automaticly. But you wan't be able to switch it to English and back automatic ly. Or you can install any keyboard you want to system/app folder and use nook tools to switch keyboards.

Thanks for you response. I successfully installed Morelocale2 app and now I have UI in Russian. However, standard keyboard still shows only English characters even with Nook Tools showing keyboard language as 'Russian'
As for installing additional keyboard - any recommendations here? This is my first Android device so I don't have too much knowledge of it.I tried to install what was claimed to be a standard ICS keyboard but it kept crashing every few seconds...
Touchpal has a Russian language pack that will change your keyboard's layout to the Cyrillic lettering. And you can easily change between layouts on the fly without closing the keyboard.

This still does not work. Once I put "TouchPal_Keyboard_4.8.apk" into system/app, reboot and switch to it from Nook Tools I'm getting popup message "Touchpal Keyboard stopped" every 5 seconds and that's it.

Folder /data/data/com.cootek.smartinputv5/lib is empty
In my case, for Smart Keyboard Pro, full sequence looks like this:
1. install SKP;
2. copy apk to system/app;
3. change permissions to wr-r-r;
4. copy files from data/data/com.smartkeyboard/lib to system/lib;
5. reboot device;
6. choose SKP in Nook Color tools as a default;
7. profit)
Unexpected outcome: after I've selected the Russian layout as an option in SKP, in Nook color tools appears choice to mark the “Russian Amazon Keyboard“ as a default. In opposite to third party keyboards native amazon keyboard is not overlaid by navigational panel in landscape orientation. The obvious minus- there is no prediction dictionary for Russian.

Well, I will try SKP tomorrow. Also, about #3 (permission change) - I noticed that Touchpal apk I copied into system/apps has rw-rw-rw. Should I remove writing permissions "group" and "other" or I can leave them as they are?
Sure, you have to remove write for other two groups, this is the point. Try it with your keyboard. it may help.

Just changed permissions for Touchpal apk in system/app - still same behavior.
So now restart your device, and install keyboard One more time. It should work now. I had the same problems with swype keyboard.

Finally, I was able to get it working. It looks like it did not install properly first time - that's why 'lib' folder was empty. After I re-installed Touchpal I've got several files there. I copied them into /system/lib and after reboot I was able to switch to Touchpal keyboard with Nook Tools.
After that I realized that to be able to switch to Russian Touchpal needs to download Russian language pack and it always fails to do it from it's settings page. However, when I manually downloaded it from CooTek site and installed I've got Russian keyboard working!
The only question I have left is about keyboard itself. When I switch to landscape mode by rotating my Kindle the keyboard correctly changes its location staying on the bottom of screen, But, it does not extend it's width keeping it exactly same as in portrait mode.Is it normal or there is a setting somewhere I'm missing?
Anyway, thanks everyone for your help.
That is definitely not normal.

This is how all keyboards work on our KFHD, except stock Amazon keyboard. I think those keyboards doesn't support 'hidding' navigation bar and use all screen width to display the keyboard. As i understand, keyboards from market should be updated to work properly. I don't know any device, where navigation bar is popping up and then hide...
Still stock Amazon's keyboard is the best. Is it possible to modify keyboard apk to add language change button? How hard is it? I am sure that this kind of modified Amazon's keyboard would be very helpfull for all not US users... Just if somebody know the thread where we can ask for such modification, point me please! :laugh:
I‘m using space bar to toggle between layouts. I unistalled all third party keboards and Amazon one works like a charm for me.

I did try your method, but it didn't work for me. I did install keyboard pro, but after that, long press in Amazon's keyboard give me an option to change keyboards, but not the language. As for now I have 4 keyboards installed.
