Overview
PowerSMS is a mobile application for people who love text messaging. It enables a number of interesting communication scenarios, which are either cumbersome or impossible without it.

Looks pretty cool... The schedule SMS feature is what got my attention!

Looks great. Will try it but have a couple of questions:-
Does it take away the WM6.1 threaded SMS feature if you install it?
Does it uninstall cleanly and leave the original SMS functionality completely restored?

I had to uninstall it. For whatever reason, if I received a call, with the auto reply SMS feature installed, it would come up and say "problem with WM 6.1 voice command, please restart voice command and try again".
Probably something on my end, but won't have time to track it down until the
weekend.

this is a truly amazing app. ive been looking for something like this for a while. great find!

ans 1....Not it doesnt, it's a standalone program hence doesnt integrate with the WM6.1 messaging system. It has to be launched separately.

This program is awesome, but i have one question that maybe someone can answer.
Does this allow sending to an unlimited number of contacts at once? or does it only send off as many as the PPC can handle?
I have to send text messages throughout the day to several people at once, and if i get to more than twenty something contacts, the text will fail.

Great app! Installed last friday - after the weekend I'm happy to report that this app is a must have on my Tilt! Great info/stats, and the sms missed calls works a charm.

i downloaded it and installed it, it said beta version has expired! soo where can i get one that works?

Am I the only one having issues with GMAIL?

Since yesterday I have to go and manualy press refresh to retrieve the emails, before it was instant like a blackberry that everytime an email was sent to me it was received by my Nexus.
Account is the same and no changes have been made.
Any ideas?

i had those same problems this weekend, i did a reboot and it works fine since.

On the same note, this past week or so my favorite sports teams keep clearing themselves everytime close the window. Its fixed now but I'll tell you that it should correct itself over time like my problem.

Good to hear that let's see if it solves by itself, did the reboot twice and that didn't help.

Try checking your syncing preferences, my gmail stopped syncing and later I realized that I accidentally hit the sync on/off button on the homescreen power control widget. Its easy to hit when you have your brightness on low and are trying to turn it up.

Common problem that occurs, albeit rarely, on our phones. Go to settings, applications, manage applications, hit menu, filter, select "all", and clear the cache in gmail and gmail storage. Takes a little time for your emails to populate again, but syncing should work again.

I deleted Gmail, i found it to be to simple and disapointing. I found regular Email app to be equally as good as Gmail besides i can have other mail accounts in there.

It's super random with me.
Half the time my Nexus One gets email quicker than my iMac, but then there's times when my iMac gets it way quicker than the Nexus One. Either way, push email rocks

The Gmail app is a big pile of ****. You can't get to your outbox, it doesn't let you download some attachments, no copy/paste... I could go on and on. I pretty much just use the mobile gmail website now.

Yeah, and does anybody have the problem where only the first message in a conversation had live web links? All of my subsequent messages in a given conversation have non-clickable http links... sucks.

Menu - View labels - Outbox (am I missing something, or are you?)
The attachments are due to Android limitations (as far as I know) not really the Gmail app. Copy/paste, yeah that sure sucks that it is missing.
Djmcnz - I just opened a discussion with a few messages, and the very first (oldest) had a link, it worked. The newer messages had links that work as well.

The first image is the last email in a conversation, the second image is the first email in the same conversation. In every conversation in my gmail, only the first message has live links... (e.g. the blue hyperlink, the purple coloured one can not be clicked on).

i've got djmcnz's issue almost in every mail i send form the Mail app on my Mac (and only in sent mails).. but i guess that is not related to the links.. in these mails there wasn't any link!..
as you can see it cuts out some paragraph of the mail, and i can't understand the sense of that!
it is really annoying since i can't read my mail from my phone!

Okay, so it's a crap app... what are the alternatives for Gmail? Suggestions please?
Does the built in email app do gmail? Is it any good?
It shocks me that the two utter fails for Android are Market searches and Gmail... go figure...

Hehe, I thought this was obvious but maybe not:
Text in purple = quoted text from a previous email.
Links in quoted text / previous emails are not clickable. To click the link, open the email in the conversation that first had the link.
Yes, this can be annoying, but I just wanted to explain the behavior for people since it may not be obvious.

It's cut off because it's quoted text from a previous email. The Gmail app only shows the first 100 characters of a quoted passage to cut down on redundancy. There's no point in having the same passage over and over and over again in every single email of a thread. For long conversation emails, that would get extremely annoying fast. The creators of the Gmail app are going for a 'clean' interface, and rightly so.
If you want to see the full message, they're expecting you to look at the corresponding email in the conversation, since it's only a single click away:

Ideally, links in quoted passages WOULD be clickable, and the length of quoted passages would be user-configurable (100 characters, 200, 500, etc). (Most likely, there's probably a feature request about these issues on the official Android developer site already anyway.)

Go ahead and star them to show your support!​
However, keep in mind: most other phones do not have threaded emails like we do. Imagine if every email in email chains/conversations were separate.
So to see previous replies you had to:
- exit the email
- scroll around
- find the date/time it was received
- open that corresponding email
- and hope it was the right one that you wanted.
This is how the iPhone operates, webOS etc, and various other phones.
Don't take threaded emails for granted Learn to use them.

i already knew how quoted text is handled by gmail app, and i like it, because, as you say, it doesn't matter to show me the whole quoted text since i can just open the previous mail..
the problem is that in the mail of this screenshot, the first paragraph was NOT a quoted text, and was written by me as part of that mail that you can see..
that is the problem.. why does the gmail app recognize that part of text as quoted text?
in the web app it dosn't happen, and neither using gmail from the browser of my desktop computer..
i hope i explained it better..

I think this is a result of the way Gmail guesses what is and isn't quoted text. There's no one standard way of formatting or markup for quoted text, so the Gmail app has to try and guess what is part of your message and what is quoted text. Sometimes it gets it wrong and the web version of Gmail probably uses a more accurate detection scheme.
I notice this problem a lot when emailing Outlook and Blackberry users as both of those email clients use unusual formating for quoted text, and Outlook uses some horrible HTML markup. It gets worse when people include massive signatures in their emails.

here is my new contribution to the WP7 world
1. Title : VVM7 - a Visual Voice Mail
2. What it is for?
This app lets you get, listen, and manage your voice mail in a visual app (instead of calling your voice mail number).
You must know that kind of app if you already owned an iPhone, or Android, depending of course of your mobile operator.
3. Why homebrew?
Homebrew because currently the WP7 SDK doesn't allow to use some functions (the most important for my app is socket). So i use a hack (that can't pass certification marketplace), thanks to Jeremia Morrill
4. So what is inside?
For the moment, you can :
- get yours voice mails (and sync with the operator server)
- tap on a item to show details, and play button to listen
or
- double tap an item to automatically play the message
- delete a message
- call, send sms, save (to the calling number)
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
First, the setup:
- install the app
- go to settings, and put the server, port, login and password
- go to "Inbox", and clic the right button to refresh data
CURRENT STATUS:
Orange (France) :OK
SFR (France) : OK
T-MOBILE : OK
Sprint : tests in progress (I need Sprint server configuration. If you have any information, give us!)
CONFIGURATION:
In most of the cases, visual voice mail is an option in your mobile plan. You need some information to make my app works, with a simple SMS. Simply send a text (in CAPITAL letters) to a number and wait for the answer.
BUT the answer is class 0 sms, and it seems that WP7 doesn't show them. So :
1. Use an old phone, no smartphone (because iPhone, Android seem to hide the SMS too).
2. Depending of your operator (remove quotes and type the text in capital letters):
- ORANGE france: SMS with text "STATE" to 21101
- SFR france: SMS with text "TEST" to 8860
- T-MOBILE USA : SMS with text "Activate:dt=6" to 122. In app, for authentication mode, use DIGEST-MD
And write down login (param like user= ***** or u=******), the password (param like pw=******) and so on for server url and port (must be 143)
3. Launch vvm7 and go to settings, type what you've noted before. Go to mailbox and press the sync button (top right)

For now it works with Orange France, that's the only one operator that I know parameters.
If you can search for yours operator config, I will try to update my app, make change for it. Can you have a look and report here? thank you in advance.

can you try this? I found it with a google search on "T-Mible USA vvm server parameters"
To start, turn off Wi-Fi. You can only connect to the voicemail IMAP server over operator (3G, Edge, ...) connexion.
Make sure you have the Visual Voicemail service activated on your account (go to http://m.web2go.com/dsb/vvmupsell from Safari)
Send the following SMS message to the number "122": "Activate:dt=6" (without quotes)
You will receive a response from "129" that looks like this: Code:

I don't get a text response after sending the Activate:dt=6 command to 122.

Ok but did you try on WP7 or an old phone? Moreover, I think visual voice mail is an option, so it depends of your operator. But in my case, if I don't have the option enabled, the sms response "tell" that service is unavailable.

I was on my WP7. I'll try it again later from my old dumbphone.

It worked. Here is the response I got:

After it says "Connexion au surveur", it says, 'Identification'... with a button "Annuler" (I assume this means 'cancel'). It hangs on 'Identification' and doesn't do anything unless I hit the Annuler button, in which case it just cancels out. I used 143 as the port. Maybe that was wrong.
Would it be possible to translate to English?

I will work on translation this week. Hope for a new version maybe on friday.
Port is good (you have ipt=143). Be sure to not have make on error with login and password (I think you have to take the whole words, so for login with [email protected] the login box have to be set to [email protected])
Moreover, with my operator, you can't access vvm server with wifi network. you HAVE to use cellular network (3G, Edge, ...), because there is restriction during authentification. please have a look too.
And because I'm using a hack to get access to socket in code, the update process is a little bit slow, be patient

I have the full phone number plus @vms.eng.t-mobile.com. I tried entering the password again, no luck. I even used NoDo's copy and paste to put the password in to make sure I didn't mistype it (the message from 129 showed up after putting my SIM back into my HD7).
It still hangs on "Identification" and won't get past it. I let it attempt to connect for about 10 minutes and still no luck. I also double checked my T-Mobile account to make sure Visual Voicemail was turned on and it is.
Wifi is off and I'm not connected to Zune. Are you on NoDo too? What are those two additional options on the Settings page?

Yes I'm on NoDo too. I've had a few debug messages, and I will release a debug test version for you (that is based on v1.0, I need to update the topic too). I'll try to upload my work today, or tomorrow

ok here a special version. Not all translation done, but the most important (during transfert). On settings page, don't care about the first two, but look at "Debug Mode". It's true by default (and doesn't saved when you quit). If you let it on, you'll have many debug messages during refresh. Have a try and report me debug texts.

Are you sure this is the right version? I don't see anything different in this version compared to the 0.7 version I have other than that there's a Beta message on the first start. There's no debug option and it doesn't look like any of it is translated to English like you said. Same issue and no debug messages as well. Just FYI.

Tips:
The command syntax is case-insensitive, while the password is case-sensitive.

Tips:

To lock the phone remotely: send *#LOCK*password# to your phone.

You can try the free (lite) version. The Lite version can also forward a call using SMS commands.
The paid version has the following features:
- Remotely lock your phone.
- You can change password remotely. Get hint if you forgot the password.

How can i add thread on "Paid Software Announcement and Discussion"?
When i try to add new thread it says to me "Sorry, in order to create a new post in the Paid Apps Forum you must have been a XDA member for more than 1 year and have more than 50 posts."
And already i have more 50 posts and I have been a XDA member for more than 1 year!
Could you tell me please how can i get this privilege?

Hey my friend.
Hope you still reading these threads. I LOVE the app, tested it with the LITE version and it's perfect. So good that i was prepared to pay 5€ for it.
So i've bought it couple days ago, installed it and try to run it. LITE version worked without a problem(even on my very old phone Xiperia ARC), but the FULL one keeps telling me: "License error ..." and it closes itself immediately.
How can there be a LICESNSE error when i bought it legaly, trough Play Store and installed it trough it also.
Can you help me maybe? I need the FULL version function that sends message when my phone has low battery. That is why i bought it!

Auto-send messages with Signal/almost any app

Hi guys,
I recently started using Signal for communicating with some guys and needed a way to be able to send messages from Tasker without requiring any interaction. What I came up with is a way that should actually work for any SMS app that's out there!
There's a service intent "android.intent.action.RESPOND_VIA_MESSAGE" that's normally used when you decline a call and chose to send a message to the caller - and unlike all the other intents it doesn't require any user input! However being a service intent it's not possible to call it using Taskers "Send Intent" action but instead one has to use "Run shell" as root.
Task setup:
- Variables -> Variable set: Name: %smsto, To: Receipients number
- Variables -> Variable set: Name: %smstext, To: SMS text
- Add action "Run shell": Use root: Yes, Command:

To make sure the event is handled by Signal I send the message directly to Signals service handling these events (org.thoughtcrime.securesms/.service.QuickResponseService) - this can be found by examining Signals AndroidManifest.xml.
If you want to use some other app for sending the message replace "org.thoughtcrime.securesms/.service.QuickResponseService" with your apps service for receiving these intents, just have a look at the apps AndroidManifest.xml and search for the service handling the RESPOND_VIA_MESSAGE action.

Great! However I didn't understand why you need run shell. In Tasker you can select the target: receiver, activity or service. Select service and Tasker will send the intent for you.

Nope: "Send Intent: permission denied by Android". Some service intents are restricted to system, so it's either a root shell or making Tasker a system app.

Does it allow sending 'signal' (whispersync) messages, or just SMS via Signal? Thanks!

it sends it as Signal messages. It's really the same as typing that msg in Signal.

Group messages
Thanks for this. It works great! Do you know if there is a way to have Tasker send a message to a Signal group? I've tried using the name of the group as the "smsto" number, but haven't had any luck with that.

I recreated that task. My phone isn't rooted and unfortunately it doesn't work. Is there a way without root sending with tasker signal messages?

For auto replies on messengers like Signal, it would be easier to just use an AutoResponder app like this:

It seems to send a signal message to an individual number. If %smsto="Group Name" it tries to send an unsecured message to the group

Is there any update on that matter in terms of sending messages zu groups?

Potentially there is an easier way,
You could use the AutoShortcut app from the same dev as tasker, to do the same thing. @niko26 it can handle groups as well. Although at least for telegram but I have not tried it for signal yet as I will be switching over to that soon.
EDIT: Forgot to mention
You can pair this with Autoinput to handle writing and sending messages.

Does this still work? I've read a few ratings on the play store which mention that it doesn't work with android 10.
Were you already successful with Autoinput?

That is a good point,
I can confirm both apps still work, I use them at least once a day. The only trouble I have had is the actions timeout. This can be solved by increasing the timeout of the actions.
I am on android 11 by the way.

The 1st action is to make the timeout consistent across all following actions that require it
2nd action makes sure that there is an active connection to the Internet. Will automatically enable data if wifi is off (thinking I might be better off with it if connected to an SSID)
3rd action accounts for, screen off and unlocking the device (can potentially be a security risk!)
4th action load specific chat within the app, in this case, it is WhatsApp and a group chat I selected. Using a plugin called AutoShortcut, see my previous post for link
5th and 6th action uses Autoinput, to write specific text in the group (the sixth one is just an additional one that needs to be sent on some days but not all at a specific time) Autoinput is also used for following actions up to action 8
7th action is to account for the removal of the additional link info that is included in the previous two actions, by clicking on the cancel button.
8th action then clicks on the send button.
9th action is to account for when I am using my device before the task is executed. So it switches back to the app that I was using.
10th action is to turn off data if I am out and about whilst travelling.
11th action, may not be necessary needed, I put it here just in case of the current task continues to run.
