I have seen them on ebay, to me they look like the kind of thing you would use to charge a second battery if you had one.

Yep it is. Just wondering if anyone had tried it.
Looks like a generic charger which you set the size to fit your phone's battery
I just purchased one. I had to buy it as i am in need of a charging cable (lost mine). If anyone has a spare charging cable i would gladly pay it as long as they will ship it registered mail to canada
in the meantime does anyone know what pins are postive and negative on the battery?
Chargers off Ebay
I got one off Ebay and it is working but it is extremely slow! It is a MyBat brand and you see tons of videos on you tube, but it is taking almost 48 hours to charge it to 100%. Can anyone confirm this 3G brand is any faster? Or can someone who has an Ebay account buy one and list a charger cable lol, I use mine for two to three days then I have to charge it two days. Please help and any input would be greatly appreciated!

thank you vvvvvery much~~~~
Email from seller
Hi guys,
I bought the same charger and asked which one of the two metal prongs is positive and which one is negative and if the seller knows which contact on the battery is positive/negative.
Apparently the charger can automatically switch polarity...
I've also noticed on the label that the charger has 600mA through the USB port and 400mA through the mains. That's why it's really slow I reckon...
Anyway, here's their response:
You can use the charger by following instruction:
Features and Functions Guide of the charger
for Dell Streak
Standard of the electrical
? Electric current of import: 110V-220V 50/60 HZ 0.1A
? Electric potential of battery charger: 4.2V-5.0V
? Electric current of battery charger:400MA
? Electric potential and current of USB charger: 5.0V-5.2V 600MA
Instruction
? The contacts of the charger can move, you can charge many different styles of battery according to the contacts of the battery.
? You also can adjust the length of the charger according to your battery, the maximum length is 2.95 inch, the minimum length is 0.67 inch. But you should do it gently, or the charge will be damaged.
? The battery for Motorola Droid A855 has 4 contacts, you should use the outsider contacts. And the charger can adjust Polarity automatically in order to fit for the polarity of the battery.
? When the charger is working, the light is pink, when the charger finishes charging, the light turns into blue. And the battery can not be charged for a long time, please pay attention to the light.
? The battery should charge the battery for 10-14 hours in the first three times, and later you should charge the battery for more than 8 hours. Then you can activate the capacity of the battery.
? The USB charger can charge your phone with a suitable USB cable. When you use the battery charger and the USB charger at the same time, the charger will let the USB charger first. The light is blue, after the USB charger finishes its charge, the battery charger will work, and the light is pink.
Warning
? Please do not take out the battery when the charger connects to power supply, or, you will hurt yourself, the battery will be damaged.
? Please do not knock down the item on purpose.
? Please do not let the charger be damped or be exposed in the water.

Thanks mate. So have you had any success in charging with your charger?
Its slow but it works. Took about 30hours to charge my battery.
Its only 400mA. 1000mA is preference when charging our batteries.

Yes, it seems to work fine, although so far I have only used it on a partly charged (~80%) battery.
The charger that I received works off the mains (110-250V at 50 or 60Hz).
It delivers 4.2V at 350mA (+/-50mA) to the battery. However, the battery is under no load, whereas when you charge a battery in situ in the Dell Streak there will be a drain on the battery while it's charging (depending on whether the display/GPS/wifi etc is switched on).
The charger also has a USB output (5.2V at 800mA).
Given the price, I would expect all the voltages and currents to be nominal (although to be fair the build quality is good enough).
Hi I just bought the 3G commerce one the one on ebay but got it at a local chinese/electronic store, the plate that is used to hold the battery against the two pins has to be stretched almost all the way out, feels like it will break the inner spring, probably wont at least I hope so. I have yet to charge my battery with this charger but will do it tonight and see how that goes.
I usually charge my battery with a blackberry desktop charger I had to mod the hell out of it so it could fit the streak battery, and that charger i believe is 4.2v 350ma and charges the battery from 2% to 100% in a little less than 4.5 hours. We use 110v AC for main juice.
When using this "generic" chargers ALWAYS make sure it is a Li-Ion/Poly charger.
You can start a fire if you don't use a proper charger. I will point this out as much as possible
solar charger / dell streak / recharger / battery
why not use a solar charger, i bought one from here ( i am not making an ad, just saying what has worked for me for your sake)
apparently i cant post links yet, just go to gkitshop, look up a 2600mAH solar charger
have a good life

[Q] What if the chargers are limiting the "extended" batteries?

I had a thought today about these "extended" batteries like the Andida that are supposedly rated at 1600 mA or larger.
What if it is not that the battery won't hold more charge, but that the chargers are limiting the battery to the same capacity as the OEM battery?
I mention this because I have three batteries, two Andida 1600, and my OEM. All three of them register at 12296 mA when fully charged. This is when charged via my external charger or charged by plugging in the serial port.
All of the external chargers are made for a specific model, what if they are programmed to stop charging at a specific mA?
Can someone with the Mugen and NRG ROM tell me what mA is listed in tBattery (tools folder) with a full charge?
Yeah i was thinking of this too... i would like to try a direct battery charger, like the chinese one where you have to move the pins to meet the battery contacts and an andida battery...Maybe with those universal battery charger we can go over the 1200mah of the original one

I HAVE a Chinese charger, although one does not have to bend any pins. But it was made for the HD2, and these things have circuitry inside them to prevent over charging. I just don't know if the same circuits are stopping the charger at the "normal" charge level.

For Li-ion and NiMH batteries, once battery is close to fully charged the the charging voltage decreases, which indicates to an intelligent charger that the battery is fully charged.
So basically the charger has no data regarding battery Mah size, the charger keeps inputting until it registers a specific change in input voltage drop.
All the standard sized batteries listed as 1600Mah are fake, end of story. tbattery ain't the one lying.

Thanks for the explanation. So the electronics for overvoltage protection are in the battery?
RE: 1600 batteries. Well, they do make adequate replacements for the standard OEM battery, but yes, they do not reach their advertised capacities.
Overcharge is monitored via battery temp sensor & bat has protection circuit.
Andida 1600mah is ok as standard replacement but they will not last as many charge cycles as a quality brand replacement or OEM bat.

Battery

how are you guys dealing with battery woes? extra battery?
Are there any >1800MAH batteries available in the market?
Buy a couple spare OEM batteries and a wall charger. Charge the batteries in the wall charger because they will charge to a full 100% and you will always have a fully charged battery ready to pop in.

any good place to order genuine oem batteries and wall charger?
I believe Amazon had OEM batteries for maybe $20 or so each? Wall chargers are pretty much all the same, just get one for cheap off of eBay.

Dealextreme now sells a battery and a charger cradle for the Nexus S for $8.30. The description states the battery is 1500mAh. Wonder if its any good...
Can't link, just go to dealextreme and search for "i9020"

Quick battery charger/dock?

Hello,
What charger would you recommend for a quick spare battery charge outside the phone? I am reading that the standard charger one can find on ebay is crap...
Thanks for your replies!

Picked up 2 of these for $5 each plus shipping.
Puts out decent power and charges my N2 fast.
No frills and does a good job.
All my other usb chargers failed.
Old chargers: Griffin Dual 2A usb (died), Extreme Mac single 2A (died), Kingston 1A (not enough juice with GPS on)
Can you use this charging app and post a screenshot?

While it doesn't give an accurate real charging results, it does say what it is capable of from what I've found.
With battery monitor widgit, it seems to charge as well as my HP touchpad AC charger. Around 1.2A
I'll give your app a shot tomorrow and report back.
EDit:
The left is fully charged battery in the car. I just woke up so ill do another when the battery is drained a bit.
The right is on the Oem ac charger on a 50% battery.
