Does any launcher let you increase font size? - Nook Color General

I've tried adw, zeam etc but I don't see a means of changing the font size for the icon shortcuts. The default is a little small.
I believe I read spare parts will do the trick (not sure if it works for launchers), but I surprised this isn't a default option. Is this only the case with the nook or do stock android devices not have this option either?

You can use LCD Density to increase the font size but it will also affect graphics too.
There is no default option in the Android OS that I know of to change just the font size.

read the how-to work around issues post stickied on this forum. there is an explaination how to change global sizes. also launcher pro will let you change the number of columns and rows displayed so you can tighten up the icon placement.

Thanks. I know launcher pro will let you set the columns, but I want the fonts bigger, and maybe even the icons.
I assume LCD Density is a separate app?
And I'll look at the stickied how to.

ADW EX (that is the paid version, totally worth it by the way) offers this exact option if you have the "new icons" option checked. It works great for controlling both icon size and label text size.

Cool good to know. I like the screens I've seen of modifying the LCD density, but I don't like it affecting the status icon etc. I wonder if that's an issue with a stock froyo as well?

Well this particular status bar is B&N's, so that will be out of the picture once custom ROMs are ready for daily use. If custom ROMs use the AOSP status bar, I think it's designed for a density of 240.

Increase font size permanently?

I have an app called spare parts in CM7 on Nook Color, in which I can go and change font size, but the font size reset after I reboot again. Is there a way to make the font size permanent and persistent across reboot sessions?

Sorry for bump, but it would be great for me and others eyes, if someone knows to permanently increase font size.

I know two ways to do this. One is LCD Density for Root, free in the Android Market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.lcddensity
This isn't truly permanent, but is a good place to start.
Once you figure out what resolution works best for you, then you can make permanent change to the resolution in the build.prop file. 200 works well for me.
Note that changing the resolution changes a lot more than just the font size.
Well this is not what in my mind, lcd density will just scale everything including icons, status bar, etc. I just want to increase the font size permanently like spare parts application.

CM7 with ADW Launcher EX set to 160 dpi

I was running CM7 -197 build on SD card with ADW Launcher EX. Due to the know Market issue, I would change the LCD density to 160 dpi to regain the Market. Each time that I would do this, my screen would squeeze all the icons into the middle 3/4 of the screen leaving a gap at the top and bottom where no icons could be located. If I returned the resolution to 161, my full screen would return and my icons would be spaced correctly. This morning I loaded the -200 build which has the 160 dpi built-in and I am back to all my icons crowded into the middle of the screen.
Has anyone else encountered this? If so, is there something that I can do to fix or correct? I have looked at all the ADW Launcher EX settings but see nothing that helps.
As a side note, I can run the ADW Launcher that comes with CM7 and everything is spaced correctly at 160 dpi. I do, however, prefer the icon and icon text settings that the EX version allows and would like to run it if I can get it to work correctly.
Thanks, in advance, for any help.
this may be a long shot but try changing your columns and rolls...

Uncheck Density hack
Done!
I can't explain how long it took me to find that...
Thanks for these suggestions. I had not tried either one until now. Unfortunately, neither suggestion worked for me. I tried a reboot after unchecking the density hack but my screen is still showing the icon rows and columns in the middle 3/4 of the screen.
If I cannot find a solution I guess I will just stick with the regular ADW Launcher. I just wish there was a way to get the icons to be a little bigger. Maybe I will just step up the power of my reading glasses.
I have the same issue. I also believe it is caused by the screen layout, not dpi. My setup is 7 rows x 8 columns (looks better to me when switching back and forth between portrait and landscape). No change when I change lcd density, but if I add more rows, the gaps disappear.
btw, I've had density hack unchecked the whole time.
I don't mind it so much because my screen is pretty full anyway, the gap is a nice visual break.
Might try unchecking compatability mode.

I've always had that unchecked as well. The only thing I've changed that successfully gets rid of the gaps is having at least 8 rows.
hikersc, how many rows and columns do you have?

I have 5 columns and 7 rows. As mentioned, I like to increase the size of the icons (and icon text).
I looked but could not find a setting for "compatibility mode". Could someone let me know and I will try that?
Thanks for everyone's help.
I would guess he means the compatability setting in Spare Parts.
I have the same issue. I have tired all of the above fixes... None of them have worked except changing the DPI, but that removes the market apps.
I am on Cm7 nightly 206 with the most up to date version of ADW ex. Does anyone else have any ideas? Even with more rows and columns there is still a gap of about 3/4 of an inch on both sides, or top and bottom depending on orientation.
Solved... sorta
The issue is definitely with ADW EX and the new fancy-pants dock bar.
The good news is that you can easily get your screen real estate back, the bad is that until ADW fixes this you wont be able to have your familiar 3-5 icon dock, you'll have to make the new "hidden" dock your primary

The new bar is still persistent when you scroll across all screens... I'll get used to it... heck, I might even learn to like it.

Wow!...Thanks! This does, indeed work. I would prefer the old dock or at least an option to have the old versus the "fancy pants" new one but at least I can adjust the icon and icon text size and not have the big gaps at top and bottom (or worse...a crippled Market).
To tell you the truth, I have been looking at the regular ADW icons for so long I might just stick with that. None the less, thanks for coming to the rescue. I had tried a number of different things but never found the solution. Great Job!

Thank you so much! I have been pounding my head trying to get this to work.

[Q] Number of dock icons change with DPI.

Hi, I'm a big fan of lower DPI to use all the screen real estate, so I decided on running a DPI of 476 on my N6.
When i set this DPI on Euphoria rom it automatically switches from a 5 icon dock, to a 7 icon dock. Also, the homescreen grid changes as well.
When setting the same DPI on Rastapop, it remains a 5 icon dock.
For me that means its ROM related (I use the same gapps for both). My question is, how this happens. I prefer a 5 icon dock. So is there a way I can prevent this from happening when I am running Euphoria?
Thanks for any replies and help!
PS.
The reason I am asking here, is to respect the devs and not discuss different Roms in their own threads.
For now I'm running SlimLauncher on Euphoria. It let's me set the number of dock icons.
And much more!
Solved.

make your dpi 411 or 410 and check If it make different

Or, just go Settings-Home Screen- and change home and apps screen grid. much easier
^^^This was easier, but I then realized my fat fingers kept hitting the wrong app when I'm not focused on what I'm doing, so I had to revert back to 4x5 arrangement. I prefered the Oreo icons, and want those back (even if it is a theme).
set your dpi to 510, it makes the phone even looks like it came from the future... very sharp and awesome

Question Icon Grid change

Hi All,
Just checking how do I change or increase the icon grid on the display screen from 4*5 to more ?
Thank you.
tech
It's done through the 'Styles' customisation when you long-press on the homescreen. You can adjust icon shape, accent colour, and grid size.
Bit strange that it's in that menu - especially since icon size is elsewhere - but given many previous revisions of Moto's software never had the feature natively, I'm happy.
Is there any way to put 6×6?

Just with custom launchers.
I have used nova launcher until recently. I'm facing a bug where I cant close an app, and that app will stay on my screen whatever I do.
I've tried microsoft launcher and Smart launcher, but same thing was happening.
Now, I use Hyperion, and so far. for 1 week, that bug happened just once, instead every day like with other launchers.
With root you can edit the stock launcher:
go to data/data/com.motorola.launcher3/shared_prefs and in shared_prefs there is an .xml file called "com.android.launcer3.prefs.xml". Inside you fill find the line "<string name="pref_grid">XxY</string>" where instead of XxY you put 6x6 or whatever you want. You will also find the line "<string name="PREF_ICON_NEW_SIZE" value ="X" />" which allows you to change the icon size to whatever you like. After edit the .xml file to be read only so that the phone doesn't change it and give it a restart. It may or may not work, I haven't tried it with Android 12.
