Questions, maybe I will buy... - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have Desire Z now and I'm searching for a new device. Well, HD7 is one of my choices... But I'm really scared of battery life, is it really low? I had Desire and that one was horrible... Also, does it have other problems that I should know? :]
My main reason why I want to get a WP7 powered device is Android. I hate that guy. I loved it, but now... I can't stand it...

I really like the phone want to buy one but no wifi sharing that sucks. that is big reason hold me .don't know will upgrade it??

Well, I don't need that feature... ;D

If you are coming from android, you might feel a bit dissapointed due to some OS limitations. but the battery life is actually ok, lasts about 1.5 days with moderate usage for me (wifi, but no data connection)
If you get the tmous one, you might get a better battery life since it comes with a 1300mAh battery (instead of 1230) but im not really sure if it really makes a difference : -D

Well, I have seen how WP7 works and I have used a little HD7. Android sucks with that "customization", with fragmentation..

You will like the refinement of the OS, smooth and precise! What I do not like about WP7 right now is the apps do not perform like the rest of the OS does. I am not worried however as this is the best first generation OS I have used and am sure these type of bugs will be ironed out with future updates. The first update is rumored to hit this month.

Wow and all your Android phones had worse battery than this one? Well, I watched a lot vids and reviews about WP7... I like it. I like the conception. I like that every phone will get updates

T-Mobile HD7 here also. Great battery usage. 1.5 days is a good estimate for heavy text usage with moderate internet using. Get a full day with gaming here and there, and normal texting/internet usage.

T-Mobile HD7 here x2.
I'm returning my phone due to a dead pixel in the middle of the screen that just really bothers me because I have major OCD. Other than that, I love the phone and I get about a day and a half with moderate internet/texting and gaming. I hope my replacement gets a perfect screen.

Diamond is probably the worst phone I ever used

Its slow, its buggy, the battery life is non-existent.
I haven't tried the cooked roms yet, but out of the box, with nothing installed.... its almost unusable, and I already had it for 3 weeks.
Pretty pathetic for a $800 phone.
Talk about speaking your mind
I do not own a Diamond device however i can tell you (with respect to ANY HTC device) that the ROM that it comes with is not the ROM you want to keep. Look into flashing and you should have a much more pleasing time with a vigorous device.
How odd.
I have mine for about 3 weeks now, batterylife is now about 3 days including 3G browsing, using TomTom, calling etc. (improved a lot since day 1, when it only last for 1 day)
Interface is very fast, its only slow when I close Opera after browsing for about 5 seconds, after that performs fast again.
It is running a cooked ROM though.
Very useful thread... one of many.
With some tweaks the HTC performs well. Even the battery.

True, but my Prophet and Trinity were not anywhere close to the level of "suck" that this phone comes to.

Keep your elitist **** to your self, pidoras.
That was an example of the poor performance of the phone. My Trinity could do 4 hours, and it wouldn't even drain he phone that much.
It's just not performing poor.
Just installed HTC's own new 1.37 rom ... and see, it's a almost full functional device!
Fast, no lags (it's not a 3300 nokia!!) lots of usability, navigating, mailing, exchange, foto's, sound, browsing, the whole bunch in my pocket.
A lot of these topics, but I am glad i bought one
I must say battery life is very poor in music playback with set of stereo bluetooth hedphones, i get about 3 hrs max just using music and no phone calling etc. it seems to me that when the battery gets to the last 2 bars it doesnt last long at all. im on the latest rom, phone calling/sat nav and surfing via 3g doesnt seem to be that much of a problem to me battery wise. Ill be picking up the extended battery, i wouldnt swap this phone for any other though!

Just had a nice time reporting you (c)
Besides, he was right.. The phone is not as bad as you said, the things you said just prove that you don't know how to use it to it's potential, that's all...
Yes, I don't own a Diamond (waiting for the Pro), but from what I can see on this forum, for each 10 whining people, there are 50 or more who love the phone after tweaking it for themselves..
The topics like this are pretty much useless, as the only thing they contain is whining, but don't actually give anything useful
My regards..
P.S. You are russian, aren't you?
This is the best phone I ever used
With the reg tweaks here from the wiki the battery lasts about 2 days - I can live with that (remembering my "old" PDAs where battery lasts not a half day *ggg*). We wanted it full featured and slim - so we habe to live with this "battery issue".
But I ordered the extended battry from HTC yesterday - just in case

IMO A2DP is going to drain the battery of any phone?
Whats battery life like on core player with corded headphones?
The rom that came with it (for most people) is slowwww.
A rush to get the phone out i think, but i think alot of people would have made that compramise - have the phone 3 weeks ago with a slow rom and be able to upgrade it around now.
Check the roms section you can find the official rom updates for each region there. You don't need to do any hard SPL modifications to use those, and therefore shouldnt affect your waranty. I would suggest that first.
Flaming is just pointless, and alot of people had the same thoughts at 1 point, i know i did!
I'm looking to get a Diamond and TBH find threads like this useful. I know its a Marmite kinda thing (love it or hate it) but it gives a indication of what the phone is like.
I want a Daimond and wil lsoon be getting one from Orange (£230 NON CONTRACT!!) and want as many users feelings for the phone as possible.
If he said the phone was one of the best ever made you wouldn't slate him and degrade him....so why do it otherwise???
Afterall its a Forum and peoples opinions are their own! Forums wouldn't exist otherwise!

Thats a good price. If you dont mind me asking, how are you getting it for £230 Non Contract?
I have to say this is probably the most ocvered topic for every single HTC out there, I have had almost all production releases and everytime someone always states its the worst phone ever! truely this can't be the case.
There are phones that have been much worse and this is a PDA with lots of extras that why you pay more oh and the fact you purchased it so early. give it a chance with a newer rom.

Hi
I have ben looking to buy the lg 2x optimus for a while. Reports of isues, the phone not working proberly, battery, bluetooth isues and so on, have ben holdning me off. And i have infact started to look for other phones, then i saw that cyanogenmod are adding support for this phone, and its getting pretty close. So i was wondering, will these isues that people are having, be resolved in cyanogenmod?
The reason i am looking for the optimus 2x, is because its only a 4", i think 4.3" is a bit to big, also if cyanogenmod is coming, and all the "isues" are solved with the phone i really thing this could be a nice phone that should be able to run icecream pretty good aswell, so it wont be outdated in ½ year.
oh, also its on sale atm.. should i strike or wait?

I think most of the issues are software issues and are getting fixed piece by piece. The real hardware issue, you sent the phone for warrenty.....
So I would go for the O2X. I have it since day one, and only Issue I had since then that the phone powerd off like 3 times. 3 Times in 2/3 months is ok for me Since the update it hasn't powerd itself off yet.

I was a HTC user. Almost all the smarthphones i've owned were from HTC.
All the HTC phones I've rooted. Not cause of custom roms or whatever.
Just some setting changes etc...
The O2X I havn't rooted yet. Why? Cause it works as it should work.
On the first stock rom I could get 1.5/2 days out of the battery. And even got 4 days (disabled internet). And now with the new rom I get one day. So that is also a software thing. But still I don't see the need of rooting the phone.
The phone works very good out of the box.

i am comming from a htc desire, that is running cyanogenmod, and tbh i wouldent be able to live with anything else, than that or a clean android experience.
For those, who are considering to buy O2X, my advice it to wait till gingerbread update is released. The phone is a promising one and I also think most of the problems described here, are software related. The UI is quite laggy sometimes, some people have reboot/battery drain/low incall quality etc. So w8 til gingerbread arrives.

I agree with you. Wait for Gingerbread. If this update will not resolve all the problems then its a ****y product.
tnx for the response, desided to wait it out and see.. TBH unless the cm version for it, is bad, or anything like that, i would probaly buy it. I dont plan on running a stock rom any way, i am considering it just because there is cm for it

TBH it's a ****ty product for now and hopefully new firmwares will fix it; for now it's a strange and very picky device. I always think back to the days I just got my HTC Hero; that device only got "fixed" due to paul 'o brien and the cyanogenmod team otherwise i had been selling it a long time ago. Still got the hero though and recently flashed one of the latest oxygen roms on it and it actually amazed me how solid and fast it was; that is one of the beauties of these kind of phones; the communities behind it fixing things.

But as long the HW isent "bad" or there are isues with the hardware, i dont see why the phone wouldt be a good buy, as long you know, you need to root and mod it, in order to get a prober phone.
after all the tmobile version runs pretty good i am told, so its more or less software isues?

The stock android experience on the tmobile version still has some of the quirks we experience in the rest of the world, but even with the LG crapware software layer it can be an awesome phone but just don't treat it as a normal android phone; leave the LG crap in place and build on top of it or your phone will reboot/hang/go black (in my experience)

so just to be clear, if i remove all the lg crapware, the phone will run badly ?i thought it was the other way around.
As things stand OP, I just wouldn't bother with this phone...
Had it nearly a month now.. fantastic hardware but the software sucks big time. Super slow and battery life sucks (probably due to software).
Thoughts of waiting for Gingerbread are all well, but LG managed to screw up the current software so well that I have complete faith that they will also screw up that too.
In a couple of months the Galaxy S2 will be out followed a bit later by the Atrix.. I dare say they won't be perfect but I don't think they can be as bad as LG's "effort"..
I really wish I had a HTC Desire, a 2 year old phone over my O2X...
Don't get me wrong, I love Android to pieces, but IMHO if Google can't sort out the mess that too many manufacturers are making of their OS by sticking their own crap on top and making it awful... it'll just push people towards Apple (who I hate). The man in the street just wants a phone that works and doesn't want to be messing around with custom roms etc.
This phone needs a lot of work to make it useable. Out of the box, this phone was crap, battery died within 10 hours, hanged 2-3 times when charging and browsing and needed to take out the battery.
I have some spare time this weekend and finally tried the vanilla rom from paul. It works perfect! No lg crapware, just pure google.
I'm using opera for my browser, listen to music for 4-5 hours with poweramp, downloaded some apps, play samurai 2, and the battery finally died after 30 hours!
Hello,
I have been reading this forum in the past few days but I still can not decide what smartphone should I buy for my birthday which is in about 2 weeks.
To be honest I have never owned a smartphone before, so when I decided to get one recently, I thought it might be better start off with a medium category Samsung Galaxy Ace for about 135 EUR (discounted price as a loyal sub-er).
However, after some further readings I realised it might be better to get a premium category O2X for about 270 EUR (with the same discount), since it will not outdate as fast as SGA, so probably I can use it for 2-3 years while SGA has already lesser apps and its slower processor will be outdated relatively soon. I do not intend to buy any new phone for 2-3 years after I get one now.
Also as a newbie, I think it will take me some time to get familiar with android features so waiting for updates should not be an issue for me (having the freezes and Gingerbread in mind).
As it stands now, O2X seems to be a better investment for me for the long term, but as I have no experience wiht smartphones at all I would like to hear your opinion as well - thanks in advance.

those here that can cope with the o2x know what we've been talking about. How does a fresh one fit in?
- need 2x day on a battery?
don't go near android (but it can be done)
- need an ios like expeience?
the o2x is a no go; you're better of with a high end htc phone
- cutting edge?
the o2x could be it; for now the nexus 1 and nexus S are a better choice
- UX
sense -> go htc! or maybe Sony/Eric
- the most powerfull phone
hey this could be it, for 4 months
You should buy it, cuz it hasent locked bootloader and it very easy phone for the developers, so there will be very good roms, and btw. CM7 is on the way :=)

Thanks for feedback.
The problem is that my provider currently sells 3 types of HTC: Wildfire, Desire and Desire HD. HTC DHD would cost 430 EUR which seems too much for me, normal desire would cost nearly as much as O2X.
Also nexus phones are not avaliable at my provider and there are only 3 types of Xperias avaliable from S/E which I dont really like.
I am kinda bound to my current provider so I do not think I have too many possibilities..

Sensation User Needs HD7 User

i know a lot of sensation users are gonna think im crazy but i really feel like moving to a wp7 device and since im on TMOUS, i only have one choice right now. the reason is i want to switch is because of the new mango update. i had wp7 on my hd2 but of course the battery wouldnt charge correctly and the browser was horrible! other than that i loved wp7, everything is simple no need to mod or change things. and the new talk of the update makes me miss the os.
now this is where u come in!! do u think the update was very significant, how is the browser compared to before? any problems i should know about the phone, like the sensation has some touchscreen issues? i would really love your guy's input, and if anyone is selling their device id be happy to purchase it.
PMed you a offer, please check.
and i haven't found any problems with the touchscreen or screen related on my device, i dont know about others.
I just bought my HD7 and updated to Mango. I totally love it. I came from the HD2 with Mango on it. There is a huge difference to me. It is so much smoother going from window to window or moving up and down on the tiles. Internet browser works great. I have no complaints until now. The only down side to this is that there isn't as much development as the HD2. After you experience this you will not go back. I say buy an HD7 and move on.

This is actually what I was hoping for. I think its better that there is no need for development. I'm at a point in my life where I don't have time to be messing with phones. I loved WP7 on my hd2 as well, so Im glad u had input from that prospective. I think I'm gonna do it and then prolly buy the HTC radar once my 6 month full upgrade comes around. Although the 8gb starage is a turnoff. Hopefully it can be modified like I've seen on the hd7.
Well thanks for the responses. And others feel free to give ur input still. And yes still looking for phone offers
Sent from my SENSATIONal 4G using Xda App.
I would hang on to your Sensation until T-Mobile gets some new hardware. I have both a Sensation and a HD7. Mango runs flawlessly on the HD7. It does everything my Sensation does, but better (with the exception of Flash and WiFi tethering). But in hand, the Sensation feels absolutely amazing. I'm hoping to have the Titan or something nice from Nokia land on T-Mobile. Someone will buy it and then demand an Android device, and I will come to their rescue.
WP7 is better than Android or iOS. Just my .02.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
since this post and got the hd7 and have had it for 2 weeks.
and idk if i got a bad sensation, but the hd7 screen (i feel) brings out colors a lot better especially whites. and i have to agree i am loving wp7.5 mor than android, i havent owned an iphone since the 3gs but i feel wp7.5 is more convenient. of course i miss the wide selection of apps and flash but these things take time.
im not a fan of the giant screens, i actually feel i would like the radar better but the 8gb storage sucks and the screen is a little too small for me.... my pickiness is a killer lol.

Hi, I have a spare mobile hd7, barely used, sim unlocked and upgraded to mango 7.5, let me know if you are still interested tnx ^_^
I love playing with phones. My screen died on my HD2 UltimateDroid. Insurance only covered another windows phone. They sent an HD7 Mango.HD7 running Deep Shining ROM. I felt limited as to apps and customization. HD7 is great for it's simplicity and social network integration. I also have a Sensation running Virtuous Inquisition ICS 4.0. Battery life is better with the HD7. Both can be tweaked to get better battery life. I have way more control over everything I do with Android and 4g, dual core. Because of the lack of battery life. I carry both! Custom ROMs so if I run outta juice, I switch SIMs LOL. I have to say the Sensation is a monster. I guess it's really user's preference!

my confession...

hi all,
this is my first full post here on xda... i have been a member for a few years now and thought i should write something the community may agree/dispute/love/hate
and so...
here it is...
i have titled this my confession as basically it is a confession... its something i have put off for quite some time now...
i am a major windows mobile fan... from way back when with my o2 xda to my hd2... i love it and everything about it... its a faithful, hardworking, do it all mobile os... i had touchscreen phones and pda's long before the touchscreen hype came in... back when my friends still had the nokia hype, with changable cases and envious battery life... anything they could do, i could do better... just for the 6 or so hours my battery gave me... then devices evolved (slowly at first) o2 xda ii then some more...mda vario... htc elf (touch) then a blackberry (never again!!!!) had that for a very short time... then got myself a tytn ii... windows mobile with real power... filled it with spb software... had android running from sd... was my first real do it all phone...
then time and age became an issue... my hardware was restricting me... software can only go so far... so the time came for an upgrade... in steps the amazing 4.3" multi touch, capacative, 1ghz powerhouse that is the hd2... running the latest and greatest version of windows mobile with a sexy sense ui draped over the top...
soon as it was released here in england i was at my local phone shop and signing up to an 18 month contract...
soon after this, a nice hspl came along which meant 1 thing to me, and 1 thing only... custom rom goodness... oh, i went through every rom imaginable... (i believe the term for this is ord or obsessive rom-flashing disorder)
i finally settled on energy roms... loved the speed, looks and the sheer number of different flavours nrgz28 offered...
then shock horror... i dropped my hd2 and smashed the digitizer... a job i would usually do myself but after the cost of the screen (£100) and what a local phone shop quoted me (£120) i decided to let them deal with the annoying job...
BIG MISTAKE!!!! basically ruined the ribbon for my volume keys and lost the glass that makes the proximity and light sensors work... they had it for about 2months... and so after a big row with them i had half my money refunded and my fone returned with a new screen but still a little sick... broken hd2 of ebay was the answer as during this time the first windows phone software was ready and waiting for my approval... so phone fixed, wp7 flashed the end....
or not... after a few minutes with wp7 i noticed simple features were missing... like copy/paste... i was unable to download any media onto my device... a big disappointment... what ever happened to microsoft??? took a beautiful thing and just destroyed it... why try and be like the iphone when waht u had was so much better...
tutt tutt...
now... down to the confession... after this utter shock from windows i decided to try android out... had it running from sd for quite some time, but thought its time to try nand and reap the benefits... so away i go... first a galaxy s rom... pretty impressive, but still lacking that spark... then a few newer builds and versions surfaced... had the desire hd rom... was nice... then i got a whiff of gingerbread goodness... started really liking the leaps and bounds the still young os was offering... then on... 2.3... 2.3.3... 2.3.5... ect... each time getting a little better... the finally ics...
ics hit the hd2 like an ice cream hitting a sensative tooth... bang! on it went and wow... im really impressed... feels like this is what wp7 should have been...
it stank of winmo customizability... ate up everything i did to it and seemed like this is how its meant to be...
android on my hd2 felt so right but also so wrong... whats going on?? im singing the praises of a winmo competitor... whats happened to me?? am i sick?? have i hit my head?? i really cant place my finger on it...
so my confession is this secret love affair i have had with android... cheating on winmo for so long... so i have decided to come clean... cant keep this cherade up any longer...
sorry winmo, i do, and always will love u... we had many brilliant times together... ones i will always remember... its not you, its me... i have met someone else and she makes me happy now... so im going to admit this now and confirm its over between us... im so so so truly very sorry...
i hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me and we can still be friends... u have influenced me and made me who i am today and 4 that i thank you
so... heres the start of not having to hide my new love... 1 i hope will last forever...
....So i bet your thinking "why did i just sit and read this crap??" its coz maybe secretly u have the same love affair? or u were actually hoping to find out some real murderers confession? or your just bored? whatever the reason, u now know where my heart lies...
maybe its time for u all to think where exactly ur heart lies...
food for thought...
thanks for reading
luke (android lover)
I've only been an Android guy. Today I went and played with some WinMo 8 devices and was impressed by the general UI and the screen clarity. That was about it though... the OS was hard to navigate and I got lost in it a few times... didn't like the Carl Zeiss on the Lumia 900 either...
So, I will be getting either the next Nexus or the Galaxy Nexus, depending on if the new one is out... And as you said ICS is a beautiful thing!!!
I want to rip the camera sensor off of the Pureview 808 (runs Belle) and slap it on Android.

There's no winmo 8 or even windows phone 8 yet.
As a whole, ICS feels like the same stuttery unintuitive mess I got from all other android builds, but I guess if winmo was your bag you grow accustomed to sacrificing performance and usability for a more feature enriched ecosystem.

well if all android builds are stuttery unintuitive mess's then u maybe need to try another device... my hd2 runs android like a dream... if i didnt know better, it could be the native os...
im unaware of what performance and usability im sacrificing... as my phone performs just as quick if not quicker than winmo ever did... even with energyroms... boot time is quicker... battery life is better... its a more finger friendly os than winmo...
i see ur a windows fan still... each to their own... as a whole, iv never rated nokia as a manufacturer of high end devices, but their deal with microsoft was the best thing they could have ever done... meego, symbian and the other crap they used to ship their devices with was a joke...

the ui (metro) can be downloaded from google play for free if u like the ui... screen clarity is down to the device really... wp7 is quick but really lacks any kind of spark for me... and coming from winmo, i really wanted to love wp7 but i just dont...
as for an upgrade id always suggest htc... kies for the samsung devices is the worst piece of software ever written... and theres just something about sony ericsson devices that feels cheap to me... if memory serves (which it probabily dont) the first nexus was made by htc... a few of them were made by samsung... dont hold me to that
You can't download the UI, you can download a cheap, laggy imitation that almost drove me from wp7 initially because I thought that was all it was. You don't sacrifice speed or stability from winmo to android because they're both stuttery and unstable. Winmo felt like a beta OS, android continued on that beta. Wp7 feels like something more solid and complete in comparison.

launcher 7's not laggy, lol. It is somewhat limited atm, but live tiles are coming very soon.
In comparison to the real deal, it's laggy. Android simply isn't built to be smooth. Honestly, winmo is better built, had they improved the UI, worked on the hardware, and built a viable marketplace, they'd have Android's spot. Unfortunately, Bill Gates wanted a mobile version of windows... He was the only one.

Like this water flowing over a leaf is laggier than that water flowing over a leaf, I'm sure.
No, android stutters due to a number of factors. Windows Phone takes measures to prevent such things. Launcher 7 is disappointing, it almost drove me from windows phone before I'd tried it because I installed it and thought, "So this is all WP7 is? Boring." Then I got a cheap HD7, even that tired old device blew away anything else on the market in terms of fluidity and speed.

I've noticed you keep trying to change your focus, from "Launcher 7" to "Android". Composition fallacy?

WP is indeed more than what Launcher 7 is.. but not by much, and the gap gets smaller everyday.
Ok, I'll make a small confession too then, shall I?
To be honest WP7 looks like a very well designed and consistent OS to me, but as any other it has its own bugs. Sure it's quite stable, especially compared to Gingerbread, but it's no Swiss watch by any mean. For example, people criticise Android because of force closes, but honestly WP7 isn't very different: at times you tap on some app and you get kicked back to your home screen, and you can't fix it without rebooting the phone or even reinstalling the app from scratch, eventally losing all of your settings. Sure you don't get the "force close" message, but this actually IS a force close. Talking about lag, I can't really say that WP7 is as consistent as some tend to describe it. Sure I'm insanely fast at typing, but at times the input is delayed, and in many situations the ICS keyboard on my SGS2 was generally faster and more fluid.
This said, I like the idea of WP7 a LOT. I love the design of every single thing, everything has been made with very good taste and always keeping the focus on user experience. I've been using WP7 for about 5 months now, and honestly I wouldn't go back. I think that WP7 is really close to perfect as a PHONE OS (for my perosnal taste at least), because let's face it: first of all a phone should be something you use for keeping in touch, doing some light browsing/tweeting and enjoying some media content on the go. Some people say that Android has more features and is generally better for so called "power users". I used to think that too, but honestly, growing up a little and actually starting to have a real life and some sort of job I came to think that phones in general are not really meant for power users. Now I know I'm on XDA, right? Don't kill me please, just let me explain. A phone has some really annoying features: small battery, small screen (yes, they generally are small, and good luck carrying a Note without cargo pants, or either operate it with one hand), and last but not least, people can always call/text/mail you when your doing your ****s. For a REAL power user this should be annoying, right? For me the best solution would be carrying an Android tablet and a WP7 device, so you can have a good and reliable communication device, fast and easy to use, AND a tablet for doing the real business as a real laptop replacement, or even just for tinkering, trying ROMs, gaming and all that jazz. A tablet has a huge battery, a very enjoyable screen and when you're using it people can still reach you on your phone without bothering you too much.
This summer I'll be definitely getting a good 10" slate with ICS on board, but I guess I won't be using it anymore as a phone OS. WP7 is my ideal phone OS: it's reliable, good looking and easy to use, and it helps me keeping focused on what really matters in my life: work, sports, friends and girls. An Android PHONE is probably too much for me, I'm too easily distracted. Now this is my very personal story, and my very personal preferences. Everyone should be enjoying his phone (and his life of course), hating is pointless. Peace out
i bet my "tired old hd2" will out perform your young, perky NOKIA... and i reckon it wont just be the hardware that makes the difference... u must have had some really bad versions of android because iv not had 1 laggy, slow or memory hungry version... and i have NEVER owned an android phone...
android supports 3d which no other platform has... supports quad core... wp7 cant yet support dual core... windows has been around since the dinosaurs and STILL lacks a decent marketplace...
android over wp7 any day...

Android actually is a really good all around platform. I guess it's the best pick for many, if not most people these days: you can get it on any sort of device at any price. Also, not everybody can afford both a phone and a tablet, and Android is definitely the best all arounder. Also, the fact that it tends to look familiar to previous Symbian, iOS, BBOS and even WM users makes it appeal to many. Anyway I always hope that every single platform out there manages to survive and succeed at some extent, without some tough competitors Android would become stale in a few years like Symbian and BBOS. Actually the fact that it doesn't belong to a single OEM is a big boost for the platform as a whole already. Future still looks very bright for the green robot IMHO.
I didn't recognize android lag until I used something more stable either. Now it's painfully apparent. Jumping from winmo to android would have to feel like an improvement because winmo was just generally bad. I mean, in it's time it was ok at best. It had it's MMOs and stuff but never got past the point where you felt you needed a stylus in some places. It was always a PPC OS and never a smartphone OS. Android is a continuation on this, and while it's remedied most of the issues, lag and stability are not one of them. Perhaps I push my android phones harder with games like Dungeon Defenders and such, but I had to reset my gs2 daily for the week I had it. My Nokia Lumia 800 has been reset seven times total since last October. It's just more stable and more social.
Vnvman, what apps do you have such issues with? The only app that's caused me to have to reset is board express which is a poorly done app. At least it's not the built in apps though like with android.
Again, maybe I push my phone more. However, my measly 1.4 GHz processor runs circles around the gs2 I had long enough to ditch it. That would be the same GS2 that is said to be the first android phone that utilized a partially GPU accelerated UI.
The last app I had issues with was Carbon, just a week ago. It kinda surprised me because it always worked pretty good. I had to reinstall it in order to make it work again. Oh, and yesterday my gf had some issues on her 710, she had some stupid game like Shoot Bubble unable to launch, reinstalling it did the trick.
Honestly these things don't really bother me (it doesn't happen often), what actually made me wanna throw my phone off the window the other day was 3g connectivity, which wasn't working no matter what. After 24 hours it started working again, apparently without a reason. Funny thing is that my gf was having this issue at the same time, but none of my friends with the same carrier had it. Really weird.
Hmm, perhaps it pertained to your account with the phone company? A glitch in the system of sorts. I don't use carbon, not certain what it is, and stick mostly on the beaten path for games. Perhaps that's why I don't have that issue. The stock stuff covers most of what I need in a phone.
Carbon is a Twitter client, it's pretty good, you should try it if you haven't already. It's well designed and melts beautifully in the OS. I'm not a great fan of the integrated client we have, it's definitely usable but a little limited, and the official twitter app hurts my eye (and my battery) with all that stupid white...

[Q] Best ROM for my needs

Hi,
So I have been looking around for a while which ROM is going to fit with me.
I've always been a graphic-nerd, and I loved the good looking interface of all my HTC devices I owned in the past.
I am still that graphic-nerd, but I am going to get an iPhone 6 later this year (Pls don't hate hahaha, its personal preference) and now I want my HTC One to be the one that saves my life in the last few months.
I want it to have a quite nice interface, and a very good battery life, and a smooth UI.
The battery life is very important to me, since my days are getting longer, and I travel much sometimes, wich means variating connectivity strength.
My battery life doesn't run for 11 hours which I do need it, while using Whatsapp, and some other social apps.
I was thinking about Cyanogenmod myself, since you can also install nice and sleek skins with that.
What are your opinions for my needs? Which ROM, and in combination with which kernel?
Much thanks in advance!
