[Q] Skullcandy 50/50 Earbuds w/ Microphone and Sprint HTC Hero - Hero CDMA Accessories

So, I've searched all over, and I can't find anyone who's had this problem, so I don't know if it's just my set up or what.
I got a set of $50 Skullcandy 50/50's for Christmas from my fiancee, and they're not fully functioning on my Hero. When I plug them in, I get the indicator that shows the headphones with microphone on the top of my screen, but the only thing that works is the sound. I can hang up and switch lines with the button on the microphone, but the volume up/down won't work, and the microphone does not push sound through. When I push the volume up/down buttons on my headset, I can hear clicking on the other end of the call though.
Now keep in mind, I've tried these earbuds on a couple different phones, and they work just as they should. They worked on an iPhone 4 and a Droid Incredible.
Is there something I'm missing, or a fix that someone has found to resolve this? I even went as far has having my phone replaced, and it does the same thing.
Thanks in advance.

Also, I'm using the stock Sprint ROM 2.32.

I have the same issue with AOSP 9.9.2 and plantronics headphones with mic. If i figure anything out ill let you know.

I have the same problem with some scosche headphones. They change the volume skip tracks, answer and hangup, and I can hear people on the other end. Problem is they cant hear me. Mic won't function. And it only happens on the hero.
As far as I can tell, the hero is just finicky and doesn't like certain headphones/mics. doesn't matter what rom or kernel you use.
I just gave up on it.

Yeah, it's kind of irritating because I spent so much money on them. I'll just wait it out until I get a new phone. I just can't figure out how it won't work on this phone, but it shows like it should. It's just blowing my mind right now.

I have 3 different pairs of skullcandy headphones 2 pair of the smokin buds and a pair of lowriders and I havent had that problem with any of them on my hero...I have an Alltel hero and I switch Roms 2-3 times a week. The only thing i can think of suggesting right now is to plug in the headset with the phone off and power it up with them still connected.
Found something that may help..but I cant post links so go to your webbrowser and type in code.google.com/p/toggleheadset/ and download the widget. Hope this helps.

I have the smokin buds to and I love them they work well with my hero

So why will the Smokin' Buds headset work, but not the 50/50's? What's the difference?

thank you!

The widget didn't help :-(

Turning off the device and turning it back on with the headphones should work. Try it out. It actually work for me.

Weird, I have never had an issue like that and I have been through every ROM you can name.

[Q] Does the V-Moda Remix Series work with the Steak?

Hi, I've had v-moda headphones before and they are without a doubt my favorite. I'm wondering if this series works with the Dell Streak. By work I mean the buttons and the mic. If it does work with the Dell Steak this would best headphones you can get for it from my experience. So if anyone knows please let me know. Thanks!
Here is a link to the specific headphones I'm asking about. http://www.v-moda.com/headphones/remix.aspx
Volume buttons will not work. Action button will work for call answering. Headphones and mic will work.
Sweet, thats the only parts I really cared about. Great news, thanks!

Well I bought the headphones. The volume keys don't work like you said, but the Mic does not work either. The mic was the main thing I wanted to work. Which doesn't make sense why it wouldn't because the threads are the exact same as on the stock Streak headphones that it came with. Would any other headphones (with a mic) work with the Streak? I really need a high quality headphones that work with this. I will probably be taking these back; even though I'll miss the superb sound.
If you guys have any new updates please let me know, however I don't believe I'll get the info I need in this thread so I'm going to create a new one that has a more broad title.
I had issues with third party headphones. Try rotating the plug and see if it works with different orientation. I'm not sure if this is a manufacturing issue or what though.

I tried rotating to all orientations with these headphones and the mic never seemed to work. I think this has something to do with the driver for three button headphones. I developed a review on a few here

Do your Samsung headphones work?

The Samsung headphones that came with my tab do not work. They work a little if I pull the plug out part of the way but not when they are plugged in all the way. All other headphones work.
Are you sure you plugged them ALL THE WAY? If they're 100% in, the gold contact should be barely visible.
I thought they were in all the way but they weren't, had the same problem as you; you may need to push them a little
I think its the way the headphones are made. Ive had that issue, just gotta push a little harder than usual

same mine. more than that....i went back to the shop, and I was very surprised when the sales man, show me what I was supposed to do........try to push a little harder than usually ....
You guys were right, I was not pushing them in all the way. I feel like a dumb ass but thank you all!
same here.
at first i thought that the left headphone doesnt work.
later i used them again, pushed a bit harder and the left one works ;-)
same here but not with stock headphones. Replaced them for "ALTEC LANSING Muzx Core" model, didn't push enough and thought they didn't work. good quality price value better than stock
my stock ones worked fine, but the headphones from my n900 didnt work at all =( wierd they seem to have the same 3 contacts i guess there switch around or something..
The stock headset is a big problem for me, it kept on falling out. Maybe I just don't know how to use these headset, I've replaced the soft rubbery thing with a bigger set that came with the headset and still won't stay in my ears. I tried the headset from my iphone and it works as a headphone but the mic doesn't seem to work when making calls. The control seem to be able to pause/play music. The volume control on the apple headset doesn't seem to be able to control the volume though. I need better headsets.
This is the only issue that I had with the stock headphones. The jack is TOO SMALL! I'm having a hard time removing it every time I need to! I'm scared that if I pull it using the cord it'll rip apart.
So far I, and everyone who's played with my Tab have had the same issue with plugging in Headphones. You really have to jam them in there...

I think this is the build of Samsung stuff. I tried Apple headset one day. But the volume keys and the mic did not work. So is the answer button. Anyhow the out of the box headset is far more quality that the iPod ****. However I found out Addidas Schenheiser headset gives the best sound quality. It's like honey to the ears.
Apple headsets are flimsy easier broken yet expensive

[Q] Headset Mode... FOREVER!

Alright,my phone is stuck in headset mode after having headphones in it ONCE. I've combed the web and XDA. Everyone suggests the same things: Thorough cleaning with Q-Tip/Alcohol/Compressed Air (Done), re-inserting headphones and slowly removing them as audio plays (Done 1,000x), Factory Reset, Repair/Replacement.
I'm pretty sure I've done enough to this phone that the replacement is out of the question (We'll just call it "thoroughly used"). I'd rather not shell out for a repair and I know it isn't software related. If I use a paperclip and ever-so-gently press the center of the bottom of the jack, it turns on the earpiece speaker, but after a second or two of releasing it, it cuts back out.
So I'm looking for alternative advice. Perhaps a jury-rig you've performed and never posted? Maybe there's a file I can delete/alter to persuade my phone to ignore this imaginary headset? Maybe whipping it out of my car window at just the right speed and angle will straighten out whatever that switch is at the bottom of the jack? (I dream of this; My relationship with my Cappy is a Love/Hate thing)
Any help is appreciated and will be rewarded with a Thanks.
Edit: I don't mind of the headphone jack doesn't work as I don't use it for anything. I just want my phone's regular functionality back.
I don't know of a hardware solution (other than the car window suggestion that you had), but CM7 has a lot of options to configure what does and doesn't play over the headset, like forcing it to play alerts over the speaker when the headset is plugged in. I don't know if you would be able to get everything back to the way you want it, but I suspect you could get closer than where you are now.

Yeah. I can get my notifications and such to play out of the rear speaker, but music doesn't play and, when on a phone call, the earpiece doesn't work, so I can't hear anything. I've heard about an old app that could toggle the headset mode on and off, but it seems to have vanished as it doesn't work as of Android 2.x. I'd rather have the phone not recognize a headset or headphones at all. I just wish I knew how.
Bummer. Good luck in the resuscitation!

That may cause as many problems as your going to fix. Contact conexxion2005 and see if he can help you out.
Got it. I broke down the phone and checked out the little piece that houses the headphone Jack. Couldn't see much, but I disconnected the little square piece from the main board and just kinda poke and prodded at the main unit. After realizing that I didn't know what the hell I was doing, I put it all back together and whaddya know? It works.

My headphones needed a bit of force to get them in properly and recognised. I think, maybe they were just not recognised the first couple of time. I'll have another go later, I've only tried once.
If I push to hard, speakers take over. I have to move it for it to play on my earphones. Pretty stuoid . Calling Google today since its my day off.
It has to be just right for it to go through the earphones. Putting it in the jack doesn't cut it because it plays through the speakers. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WAANT TO WATCH PORN.. LOL

ok is working ,i realize that it need to be pushed all the way in lol.
for some reason was not obvious to me, i guess because on my Gnexus don't need to force it that much.
I noticed same thing. So you had to apply more pressure to force it in? I was afraid of breaking the damn thing. I can't get it to recognize any of my headphones but will play out through my lil surround sound system that has a headphone plug. I noticed that the plugs don't seem to go all the way in. I will try to force it in harder..lol.
I need to get some dedicated headphones. Only ones I have are the ones with a built in mic attached. Those won't go in all the way no matter how hard you push. Its likely to break the headphone jack if you keep trying to force them. Ones with mic. attached have 3 rings on the plug. Straight stereo headphones have only 2 rings, which is what I need.

Headset button causing chaos.

I've owned a One previously. I got this one off ebay, refurbished. It works beautifully however, I have noticed a problem with the headphone socket.
When I connect a headset with a mic and button to the phone, the button will not function as it should. It will either pause/play the track (it does this rarely), as it should. But more likely it will fast forward/or slightly rewind the track. I use Doggcatcher and tried Pocketscasts. Both do the same thing.
If I speak to someone with the headset in and press the button to the end call, nothing happens. I can hear this hiss and hear mic feedback like the call is connected. The screen will not light up and nothing works until I perform a hard reset.
I blamed the rom, but I have tried 5 roms now and all the same. I have blown into the headphone jack and tried to look to anything odd, but nothing.
I've rooted the device, gained S-OFF, updated firmware to latest and currently running liquid smooth lollipop rom.
I just want to somehow confirm best I can it is a hardware issue. This means alas I will have to restore the phone to stock before a return however.
Any help on this is appreciated, it is driving me mad.
Bump.
I just need to try and figure this out so, if I need to, send it back if it is truly faulty.
Another bump
Someone must know about this, driving me insane.
Pressing the damn button on my damn headset will rewind the podcast by about 10 seconds or so. And yet sometimes it will work as intended. totally random.
I just need to know if it is a fault with the device or not.

Does it do it with all headsets with a mic, if so then it is hardware! If not, then it is your headset!
I've only tried 2 headsets, since that is all I own. Both do the same thing. I just wanted to clarify.
