Motorola Droid 3 Tutorial Video’s Leaked

The next huge device from the Droid Revolution by Motorola i.e Droid 3 is getting ready to release according to the sources. Today couple of Droid 3 Tutorial videos have leaked which shows off the huge device. According to the rumors ,the device will sport a dual-core 1Ghz TI CPU,Android 2.3.3 ( Gingerbread),a qHD 960x540 4.0" display and according to the leaked video it also features 1080p HD video recording and a separate grey line up row for number keys. This hints us that the Motorola Droid 3 is getting ready for the release. Videos below via MobileGearz

Meh whats the point? The DroidX2 just came out with a dual core processor so that advantage is kinda moot. I suppose that thing has a hardware keyboard? Video didn't show it.

Yeah, I saw that now, thanks.
I don't see the need for a new Droid phone. Feels kinda rushed IMO. I also don't see the need to cling to the Droid brand, but that may be someone at Moto adopting the iPhone style of phones, hoping to compete. Wouldn't surprise me if that is their approach, to retain the same look and feel to build loyalty. Gotta give them points for being consistent, though.

Can I haz world phone capabilities?

Heh, I specifically activated an old XV6800 just for that purpose. Moved my wife's old VX8350 (LG flip) to the winmo phone just to get an unlimited plan on her number. Did this on the 6th, and then ordered the D3 the next morning, using the VX8350's NE2 upgrade.
And discovered the XV6800 still has a NE2 upgrade available for it. If/when they come out with a 4G capable slider that upgrade will come in handy.

Not really. Saying the atrix has 1g ram is a product of marketing. The atrix basically has two operating systems, and two sets of ram. Neither android os, or the webtop os, get to use the full 1g ram.
The same will be likely for the bionic. Unless we see 1.5 or 2 gigs of ram for the bionic. It will have webtop, so unless moto changes the way their phones handle webtop, we can expect 512 for the bionic as well.
Though from everything I've heard so far, the 512 ddr2 memory in the d3 is working just fine, if not better than phones with more, but slower, ram.

Bionic vs HTC Vigor (Thunderbolt 2)

I recently purchased my Droid Bionic, not aware that in a month's time the HTC Vigor (Thunderbolt 2 officially) would be released. I read up on many rumors of the HTC device, but they all seemed very unlikely. I asked my friend who works for Verizon about the HTC device if he knew anything about it, and he did and told me the specs of the HTC Vigor would be identical to the Bionic, noting that the rumors aren't true, and that it's most likely 1GHz or 1.2GHz dual core, with a qHD 560x940 screen. As far as dimensions or weight, he doesn't know how the HTC Vigor will do in that category. He works high up in Verzion, and I won't disclose his name just in case this info wasn't supposed to be given to me.
Should I return my Bionic and hold off for the Vigor?
I know the Bionic's PenTile screen is very disappointing, the camera is sub-par, and the battery life, while impressive, isn't as amazing as it can be (high cell standby and idle times).
How are HTC screens usually compared to others (SGSII, iPhone, Motorola)? Battery life on HTC phones? My main concern is the battery life overtime; would custom ROMs improve the battery life of the bionic?
I know the camera will definitely beat out the Bionic.
Is anyone returning their phone and waiting for the HTC Thunderbolt 2?

I was deciding if i should wait for the Vigor or Prime, but went ahead and purchased the Bionic.
I was really impressed with how little juice the screen on the Bionic pulls.
My screen on my previous phone would be around 70-80%
Bionic screen uses less than 20% That's why the cell standby percentage seems high.
All the percentages have to equal 100% It doesn't necessarily mean that the cell standby is using more juice when compared to other devices.
Wish the camera was a tad better, but it's doable. I do like how I'm able to use my phone outside in sunlight.

I would chose the Bionic after all the problems with the Thunderbolt. I will not go back to a htc again.

I had read, prior to purchasing the Bionic, that HTC Vigor, Prime, and iPhone 5 would all be released in October. Since I didn't want an iPhone and am not super techie that I need a pure Google phone, it was really between the Vigor and the bionic. My last phone was the HTC Droid Eris. Although with root and some fab devs producing ROMs, my l'il Eris lasted me through my 2 yr contract, it was buggy. The hardware literally fell apart and I had to replace the handset 4 times in my 2 yr contract. Although I know ppl who love their Incredibles and Thunderbolts - they ALSO complain of software bugs and hardware issues. Having weighed that, I decided to go with a Motorola product. My friends who have Moto Droids all like them and rave about them. Plus, I'm eager to see if Google acquiring Motorola Mobility will have any impact on the Bionic or proceeding products. I WOULD like to see unlocked bootloaders in the future though.

HTC Vigor:
1. It's going to be running a dual-core previous generation Snapdragon, *not* the new Krait cores which aren't even coming out until 2012. The OMAP4 in the Bionic definitely outperforms it.
2. Just going to be a Sensation on Verizon. If you want to check it out, go to your local T-Mobile store and look at it yourself.
Nexus Prime:
1. We don't really have much details on it.
2. It *might* even also have the dual-core Snapdragon the Sensation/Vigor will run. Seeing as how the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 has that instead of the Exynos, it's highly possible.
3. Eric Schmidt said Ice Cream Sandwich is coming out in October or November. This is a huge timeframe which will most likely lean towards the November area. If previous trends match up with this, the phone will come out *after* the software. Last year, the Nexus S came out 2 weeks after GingerBread dropped on AOSP. If it comes out at the end of October or beginning of November, that will be November or even December before we see the Nexus Prime.
My 2 cents before you start comparing the Bionic to the other phones coming out.

I was thinking of waiting for the Vigor till I realized it was a 1.5 Ghz based on the A8 that Qualcomm and HTC are STILL using. That is why they are pushing them all the way to 1.5Ghz, just to compete with the Exynos, OMAP4, and Tegra 2. The OMAP4 will still kill the Vigor. Granted RIGHT out of the box, the Vigor will probably score a little higher on meaningless menchmarks, most of which have not even been optimized for the new chipsets. But once we can overclock the Bionic CPU even to 1.2Ghz, I would almost guarantee it's CPU will DESTROY the Vigor

If you really plan on using Sense, wait for the Vigor.
In two days I will be replacing my Droid Eris with a Bionic. I do like the Eris, but I was very disappointed that while Android was quickly releasing new versions, I was stuck on whatever HTC had working because the Sense layer is so complicated. As soon as I could root, I did, and didn't find that I missed Sense all that much, though it is pretty.
Some of my friends, mostly Sprint customers, love HTC and Sense, and are loyal to the brand, refusing to go elsewhere. If you're one of those, wait for the Vigor. Otherwise, it's the Bionic now or the Prime later.

I didn't think about the percentages must equal 100%, which answers my question about the call standby and the phone idle percentages being so high. Thanks for answering that for me.

It's not 1.5GHz, its either 1.0GHz, or 1.2GHz. I'm also 100% sure if the Vigor has the A8 Qualcomm dual-core chip, that the Bionic will wipe the floor with it.

According to rumors, the Prime is supposed to sport a 4.65" screen, which honestly to me is way too big, so for me it was either the Bionic or the Vigor (TB2).
Thanks for everyone's responses, they're definitely giving me insight into both phones and their capabilities as well as how they will perform in the long run. Keep them coming!

Final hardware could still be Krait snapdragon for the Vigor but its getting more skepticle. It coule be the Krait will be in the Prime when it comes out close toward the end of the year. A 720P HD 4.3 in screen is very enticing indeed so it is a tradeoff between the Bionics' mediocre screen or something a screen better than the Retina Display.

It would *not* be Krait cores. Krait hasn't even been released yet and is still scheduled for a Q2 2012 release. Not even close.

He's ABSOLTELY correct, there is NO chance it is the Krait

I was debating this same thing for a month or so.. Everyone always wants the best available, sometimes that can be a very difficult task. I was on the HTC Evo, and absolutely loved it. So that was drawing me towards the Vigor. My friend has the Nexus S and I was able to see how awesome that can be, so that was drawing me towards the Prime. But bottom line was, I was tired of waiting. I switched to VZW in July so I could get the unlimited data, and because I knew the Bionic was coming out. I had to grab an old blackberry I had laying around to wait.
Can you see why I jumped on what I had initially been waiting on?? The biggest thing I dislike is the LED.. its not the best on the Bionic. I imagine it will be decent on the HTC. But as for the Nexus, does samsung even have a Notification LED?
Definitely different benefits to each phone, but I think as soon as some fixes come out the Bionic will be a very good phone (already is pretty awesome).

It would be ashame if the Vigor uses the same MSM8660 as in the Evo 3D only clocked higher since the Scorpion cores are getting long in the tooth.

Motorola makes a really solid phone. Even though I like htc and generally applaud their use of materials in their hardware, Motorola makes a seriously well built device. No cheap tolerances whatsoever.

This. The sad thing is that the Thunderbolt outside of the battery life was a pretty good phone. The screen is quite beautiful and the phone itself runs pretty fast. Hopefully HTC has learned from this so when Vigor (aka Thunderbolt 2) comes it'll be much better in terms of battery but retaining the screen quality of the original Thunderbolt.

I back the display. Its not a game changer when you can see pixels when you hold the phone up to your eye. I keep saying this - but at normal distance the display is as crisp as any.
Go looking for pixels - you'll find them. Hold an iphone up to your face you'll get the same thing.

Difference is that I can see the pixels even 5-10 feet away. I didn't see this on either the original Droid or even the Thunderbolt for that matter. So yes the pentile display to me is the deal breaker on the Bionic. Maybe not for you but it certainly is for me. If it works fine for you then enjoy the phone as the Bionic for the most part is a good device. I just felt that the pentile display wasn't for me.

I'm useing my bionic now, I'm about a foot away and I can't see the pixles, I've been useing Netflix with it even closer to my face and its flawless, don't know who's bionic you've been looking at but I can't see my pixles too easily

I would definitely agree that the Thunderbolt was a very good phone, except for the very disappointing battery life. The Bionic's pentile display is also disappointing, but as I used my Bionic more and more, I felt like the display is very crisp and pixels are hardly noticeable unless you truly look for them, and lets be honest, on any phone if you truly look for pixels, you'll find them.

Normal distance is great. When I watch videos, play games, etc, pixels are hardly noticeable. In addition, the battery life saved from those pentile displays are quite remarkable. It's a somewhat good tradeoff: screen quality for battery life, and even then the screen quality isn't terrible to the point where it would be a decision changer for me.

I upgraded to a bionic from a Droid X (forced due to bootloop, but nonetheless) and also have a Thunderbolt. The pentile screen does love much to be desired, and yes, I can see pixels when holding it even at arms length.
But IMO the bionic has answered the mail on what *I believe* it was meant to be: a portable media center with a webtop bonus thrown in. I've read countless threads across many devices about people pushing their media (local or stream) from their phones to all sorts of tv's, pc's, xbox's, name your reciever. Moto made sure they put out a device that had the horsepower to accomplish that with the added benefit of a decent non battery hogging screen for those that want to use it in transit or while away from their receivers. That's primarily how I used my Droid X and can probably count in the low hundreds the number of times I actually looked at anything on the screen itself for longer than 2 mins (mainly just to set up hdmi out or a bluetooth connection to stream something).

[Q] Vivid/Skyrocket/Nitro

So I am Unlimited AT&T legacy customer that just went out and baught the HTC Vivid. I baught the Vivid for a couple reasons.
-Upgrade was advailabl a couple months ago. I wanted to lock in my Unlimited Plan before they start deploying LTE in my area. I wanted one the Dual Core, 4.5" screen, LTE phones.
-The display look much sharper sitting next to Skyrocket in the store. Looking at the AT&T Widgets that were the same on both phones. You can really tell the sharpness of the Vivid's screen in comparisance.
-Build quality was more "Solid." Weight was not a defining issue for me.
-I baught a first generation Captivate. So I got burned by the GPS issue. So the Samsung Skyrocket was going to have to be perfect.
-The Nexus is not going to come out for AT&T anytime soon, I think.
-I did not relize that the LG Optimas existed and is coming to AT&T as the Nitro
I am looking for some feed back on why other folks baught the HTC Vivid? Is HTC a solid company when it comes to updating? Do folks have high hopes, looking forward to, Sense 4.0 and ICS? Do any folks have any experince with LG? Did I make the wrong choice now that the LG Optimas is coming to AT&T as the Nitro? The last, and most important, do folks see a solid group of XDA Developers doing their magic on the HTC Vivid?
Now when I got burned with the purchase of the early build Samsung Captivate, and it's horrible GPS. The only thing that made the purchase worth it was the XDA Developers Community and all the effort they put in to it. So in the end I am looking to see which of the LTE, 4.5", Dual Core phones is going to get the most XDA Development, and be a good phone.

As far as dev support, the Skyrocket has real root, and can run TMo S II ROMs already.
LG has a worse record if possible than Samsung for Android updates. Plus, they don't have much of a following. The build quality is great, but check out the Ghost Town of the Thrill forum. That phone came out in September, its already been passed over by all the dev support.
If you want high end android phone with dev support and don't mind losing LTE the original Galaxy S II is the best phone on ATT. Its almost identicle to the international version. There were ROMs for this phone within 24 hours because all the work on the i9100 was not lost. The first phone on att with ICS will probably be that phone. I would not be surprised if we have ICS before (if at all) att has a subsidized Galaxy Nexus.
I too came from the captivate. I never had the GPS woes everyone else complained about. It was slow to get a lock, but worked solid for me from that point. The i777 original Galaxy S II is much faster to get a lock, but not as fast as my wife's iPhone. I am extrely pleased with my i777, but I don't gave LTE, and would be surprised if I have it next time I upgrade.
I bet the Vivid will pick up a lot of the Inspire crowd, but I don't think it will rival any of the Samsung phones of late.
If I had LTE coverage to play with I might have been tempted, but its still first Gen LTE phone for att, so that scares me from both the vivid and skyrocket.

I actually wound up with one of my Lines being the LG Thrill and that phone is still stuck with Froyo so yea LG has a VERY Bad record of keeping up with updates considering the Thrill isn't even that old. As for the Skyrocket it seems to have a bit of a banding issue like white lines when you are watching movies or what not that is quite aggravating. Oh yea also forgot the Skyrocket Does not seem to have FM Radio built in. It does have an NFC chip though which is kind of a bonus but with the horrid screen it really depends on what your looking for in a device. If you want a fast phone out of the Box and something with NFC than the Skyrocket is what you will want. If you want a phone that has Wonderful resolution and will Be most likely Just as fast as the Skyrocket once it gets root than I would go with the Vivid.

After having owned both the Skyrocket and the Vivid for a few days, here are a couple of my thoughts. I hope this helps your decision process. This is all just my opinion.
I like the feel of the Skyrocket in my hand better.
The Skyrocket's web browser is not resizing websites when you pinch to expand. The Vivid does.
The Skyrocket's screen colors are brighter than the Vivid's, but light colored websites and text on a full white background is significantly dimmer.Reading ebooks is better on the Vivid, or--for that matter--my Inspire.
The Skyrocket has the charging/USB port where it belongs, on the bottom. The Vivid's is on the side. That's worse for charging cradles and using the phone while charging.
I like the screen resolution on the Skyrocket better. Fonts are easier to read for those with less than perfect vision. Some of the Vivid's Fonts are downright tiny.
The Vivid works flawlessly with my Motorola H17 headsets. Cyberon works great. The Skyrocket has been basically useless with the H17; how it works with voice command I don't know. This may be a compatibility issue, but still...
Synching to Outlook with the Vivid is painless and free with HTC Synch. Synching to Outlook with the Skyrocket is a PITA and costs $50. (For the third party PC program.) Perhaps there's a better way I haven't found.
Volume is FAR better on the Skyrocket.
Battery life is better on the Skyrocket.
The Vivid can turn Bluetooth volume down further. That's a big deal when on the phone with a loud talker.
Sense (Vivid) is better than Touchwiz (Skyrocket).
Both have data issues right now.

I understand liking super amoled more but actually preferring lower resolution? You must be one of few. Just resize the fonts if they're too small.

Doors anyone know anything about the LG Nitro? It seems to be a solid device specifications wise. How much damage does LG do with their launcher/modifications.

Many system fonts are not resizeable. Go android. One of the few? Anyone who's vision is less than perfect and doesn't want to put on their reading glasses to use the phone. Now, I believe once the phone is rooted there are apps that can change pixel density? So there probably is a way down the road to fix this. But I'm just talking out of the box experience here. Anyone with the skill/desire to get into that will disregard what I'm saying anyway. I'm just trying to help the unskilled masses make their decision.

So I start this off with a disclaimer that this is complete hearsay and in no way from an authoritative source. But! I was talking to a friend of mine who works for Samsung America in the PR department about phones, and I asked her about the Galaxy Nexus. While she wouldn't really say much, she did say that if I wanted it on AT&T, I'd have to wait till the end of the 1st quarter or beginning of the 2nd quarter in 2012. So, at some point in the future, the Galaxy Nexus will likely be available for AT&T, but it'll probably be a ways off.

I have heard both good AND bad about LG phones, but this thing looks too tempting to pass up. My week old SGS II will be heading back to AT&T as soon as the Nitro drops.

I was debating the nitro once i heard about it but after having the skyrocket and relazing the only benefit is the screen thats where it stopped. I feel that the dev community and just overall software upgrades (skyrocket is confirmed for sandwich 100%) and other lack of issues on the bulletproof skyrocket makes me believe that i made the right choice. Every time i play with the vivid and skyrocket, yes the crispy screen is nice but once you take them away from side to side the skyrocket isn't too bad.

Media guy here - i have a new in box Nitro HD, LTE, for AT&T, if anyone wants to buy it. PM me if interested. I got to play with it/review it extensively, and it's LG's best efforts to date. The G2x is crap against it, and LG has really stepped it up.
They gave us Nitro HD's to keep, but I'm on T-Mobile, and as much as I'd like to use the Nitro HD, I don't want to use it on Edge, T-Mobile connection, hence my reason for selling. If you want to buy it from me, let me know - thanks!

If I'm not mistaken LG has said that the nitro along with the 3d optimus (the thrill here in the us) will.br getting ics upgrades. Im considering returning my vivid for the nitro cause of the screen n all I ever do is root to allow for tethering with out paying since I have unlimited data.

I have the Nitro, new in box for sale. As I sad above, I am on T-MObile and can't use it. PM me if interested

I chose the Vivid over the Skyrocket because of the qHD screen and because it had an FM radio. I previously had a Captivate and loved the AMOLED screen, but after lengthy in-store comparison I felt the Vivid's was as good or better than the Skyrocket (at least at full brightness). Both seemed equally snappy. The Skyrocket was much lighter, but I decided I could live with the Vivid's weight.
Bought my Vivid the day it came out, and my only trepidation was, 'Please ATT, don't come out with any 720p phones in the next 30 days.' And sure enough, here comes the Nitro! But even if I could change, I don't think I would. Judging on the specs in Phonescoop (subject to change), the Nitro has the 720p screen, faster processor and lighter weight, but seems to be missing the following features:
- less RAM (720MB vs. 1GB for Vivid/Skyrocket) ** see Edit **
- less internal storage (4GB internal vs. 16GB)
- no FM radio
- no video out ** see Edit **
- possibly less battery life ** see Edit **
Will check out the phone on Monday. Like I said, I really wanted 720p, but I've seen the HTC Rezound in person, and while the text is sharper, it's really only noticeable at very close range - the icon sizes were the same despite having 78% more pixels. So for now, I'm still very happy with my Vivid.

EDIT: The Nitro has DLNA, so outputting media on a TV is possible, just not with a cable. Also, Phonearena says the RAM is 1GB, so that 720MB might be the usable figure; comparable to ~800MB for Vivid. Confirmed the 4GB internal storage and no FM radio, which is a minor thing, but I wanted it after AT&T deleted it from the E71x.
The Nitro has an 1820 mAh battery, comparable to the 1850 mAh for the Skyrocket and better than the 1620 mAh for the Vivid, but worse claimed battery life, perhaps a function of the screen. 1800 mAh after-market batteries are available for the Vivid.
After review, the specs are much closer/favorable for Nitro, so it's more of a judgment call.

Does 768 to 1GB of ram make a difference? This is some what of a deal breaker for me.

Quick update - the specs are up on AT&T's website. I went to LG's website and downloaded the manual for the Nitro HD (LG P930), and it says that video out by HDMI cable is possible, and over WiFi/Bluetooth/USB in more limited ways. Perhaps these differences are due to differences between international and Americanized models. If correct, Nitro's specs seem even more favorable.

$150 in my area, may have to swap for vivid. ARG

I'm going fir the og gs2 right after church. Vivid is nice but no root, battery life, and some what leggy ui... I came from ios and so fat I am disappoint with android but I think its the phone. Ever since I first got this phone I kinda wish I hadn't.

Just yesterday my phone didn't make it a whole day. I unplugged it at 7am and then watched some YouTube vids and by 7pm the battery was dead. Heck, at 6pm my battery said it had 40% battery and I used the navigation system for 5mins and it went down to 20%. Its kinda embarrassing when your friend ask for a flashlight so I had him my phone but the battery is to low for the flashlight to turn on. My other friend asked "I thought you had 45% battery an hour ago" and then hands his iPhone 4s to that guy. So no, this phone has been a disapointment. Sorry for the rant

If you think the UI is laggy then, trust me:
You have issues with Android. And may just want to go back to the iPhone.
Because as Android devices go, this phone is the smoothest I've ever seen.

N4 vs droid DNA?

So after FINALLY getting my order for a N4 in, I check facebook and see that HTC announced the droid DNA... that is also packing a quadcore, and a 1080p display....

If you don't need tons of development I would get the Droid DNA.
If there was an intl' version of it, I was getting it because: intl' version will get tons of development, I love the bigger screen (5" is perfect for me!) and it's high quality (HTC's screens from the last year are great + 1080P res!!) and I love it's design
But as there is no intl' version, I'm getting the Nexus 4.

At least 600 of contract, Verizon, cdma. No regrets on the N4.

Thats stupid as hell! I'm T-Mobile. Glad I got the N4 =]
Defiantly no buyers remorse here about it.

The thing about HTC that will keep me from them is that they always, and I mean ALWAYS, skimp on the battery and put in the smallest one possible, even if it means the battery life sucks.

No Micro SD and only 16gb...
As useless as the Nexus 4.

at&t/rogers might get it
but t-mobile/wind/mobilicity get dooped by HTC again

I was having similar thoughts, but for me what it came down to was dev support, updates, and GSM support vs. a slightly larger, better screen.
On a side note, I'm curious to see how the battery holds up. It's pretty small (2020 IIRC), and a lot of people have been HIGHLY skeptical of its ability to keep the phone powered, especially with LTE and a 1080p 5" screen.

I'd consider getting it second hand in 6 months + if it had SD support. For me, spec wise, AHD is all I really need in a phone. Next phone I get will be something like an AHD with a keyboard.

I've noticed that as smart phones became better and better, the amount of phones with keyboards decreased. Me thinks they don't make many now-a-days because most people wouldn't have a need for a netbook or a laptop if a phone as powerful and big as the AHD had a keyboard.

Definitely will not purchase Motorola X. While Motorola phones Have very good build quality. I believe the hardware to be subpar compared to samsung and htc. The motoblur Interface on Atrix HD is a big improvement over that of Atrix 4g. which is a big step in the right direction . However Motorola has with both phones shown that it does not support updates as well as its competitors. for example atrix 4g support ended at android 2.3.6 and atrix Hd support ended at android 4.1.1. Add to this that Motorola Locks Bootloaders Making customization difficult . NO THANKS!

Depends on the bootloader status. If unlockable, then it will pick up really fast...if not, probably similar to us or the Defy -- depends on how easy it will be to root. Even locked, if its rooted there's a good chance it'll run ports of our roms.

Agreed. Though hardware is a moot point since most apps hardly support dual core, let alone quad and otca core phones. With Moto I don't even consider OEM support as a factor since I expect it to be next to nothing from the start. Moto releases OS updates as new devices.... My next phone will probably be HTC or Sony -- both have good OEM features, OEM support, and community support. I'm leaning towards Sony, only because I've never once bought a bad Sony product or had a Sony product break or go bad that wasn't directly related to me abusing the hell out of it.....usually because I drop them.

nokia lumia1020 and MOTO Droid Ultra mini，but the moto Droid Ultra is too expensive while the hardware is not the best。
I have to say the moto X is ugly。。。
I do not like the design，especially the earpieces and the microphone。

I dunno. Whatever Sony has next year that I can afford when I decide to upgrade the AHD.

I'm really interested in the Moto X. I like the look of some of the feature, notifications and active mic. My next upgrade is in Feb, so I'll make a decision at that time. However, I have heard rumor of a Moto Nexus coming (that was the leak rumor last week), if that is true, I may go for that off contract. I know everybody has different opinions on hardware and specs, but the Atrix HD is my 7th Moto phone (2nd android based), and outside of one poor flip phone, they have all been top notch.

I remember when the Samsung epic 4g came out I was thrilled to see a good phone for fast texting and typing emails

Probably a Sony phone as long as they keep micro SD. That feature being implemented or not is very telling about a companies true understanding of it's users. I prefer companies that allow storage expansion.

Provided you can unlock the X's boot loader, then it'll probably be on par with us in no time at all. If locked, it might run ports of our roms if it is rooted and a rom flash method like SafeStrap is made.
If I were considering getting one, I'd wait a week to a month to see what's up with it, its quirks, and how much the community will support it.

The "Cloud" is useless with current Data Plans and 16-32GB isn't that much storage, especially once you start to consider Nandroids, Titanium Backups, music, a movie or three for a long trip, other roms, pictures, and the list goes on and on.

my 6th moto (cliq, q9h, v80, slvr, c139 prior) and I too agree with build quality, up there with Nokia for me.
I've also owned about 4 blackberry devices before going android and the build quality and reliability was anywhere from terrible to average.

Vote with your dollar! My feelings exactly. I give Samsung their props for continuing support for SDs and giving consumers what they want (incl. removable battery) Seems like everyone these days is going the other route.
Locked storage capacity + free cloud storage, it's all "politics" from my POV really and I'm not going to support it.

I agree that no SD is a big drawback...but cloud is one of the reason why google phones do not have SD. Only nexus 1 was the only nexus phone with a SD card i think! Well,,,thats the way google goes....i dont know if we have any say to it...unless samsung comes up with its own OS...

I was hopeful for the motorola x but after looking the specs and the fact that doesn't have a external SD I am thinking the Sony honami is my next phone.

I try to not get too caught up in the spec war. Look at crapple.....as much as it pains me to say this, they have low specs but they do an excellent job with optimization. So well that they can keep up with some of the new flagship phones.
I think the motoX will deliver a great user experience. And that's what it's all about. I'm not too fond of the no SD card.
I'll still be getting the 32gb model.
