[Q] Kindle App - book download issues - HD7 General

Was so looking forward to this. I have some books in Archive that simply fail to download to the HT7, others can take ages to download. Tried removing the app, de-registering on Amazon and re-installing, same issue. Anyone else seeing this ?
Ian

So far my books haved synced fine over Wi-fi. Are you using Wi-Fi or 3G? Do you get any error message?

I'm only attempting this over the WiFi network, it eventually gives up and says failed to download, try again.

The only real possible causes for failed downloads would be loosing wireless connection or Closing the application before the download has completed.

Well I thought this but the iPhone beside me downloads fine over wifi as do my various laptops with the Kindle app installed.

Maybe try de-registering and uninstalling/Reinstalling one more time? Don't know what else to suggest fella.
This is off the amazon website hence why i've quoted it.
Amazon Website said:
Book appears in Kindle Library and Archived Items but download failed.
Possible causes:
Lost wireless connection.
Application closed before download completed.
Confirm wireless connection and retry download
Check wireless data service or Wi-Fi is enabled on the device and that status indicators show an active connection. A wireless connection must be active.
Launch Kindle for Android.
Tap the Menu button, then select "Archived Items."
Select the desired title from the "Archived Items" list.
Leave your wireless connection and Kindle for Android app running until the download completes--do not leave the application.
If your wireless connection is interrupted and the download fails, attempt the steps above again when your wireless connection is re-established and active long enough to complete the download.
Confirm disk space is available
If you see the error message: "There is not enough space available on the media card," free up disk space by deleting videos, pictures, applications, and/or other files you no longer need.
Book is missing or does not appear in Archived Items list.
Possible causes:
Lost wireless connection.
Kindle for Android registered to wrong account.
Confirm wireless connection and relaunch application
Close the Kindle for Windows Phone application.
Check wireless data service or Wi-Fi is enabled on the device and that status indicators show an active connection. A wireless connection must be active.
Launch Kindle for Windows Phone and log in to the Amazon account you used to purchase the book you wish to download if prompted.
Scroll to the menu section in the panorama view and select "Sync" and wait for the sync to complete.
Scroll back to the home section in the panorama view and select “Archived Items.”
If the title still does not appear, follow the steps below to re-register.
Re-register the application
Launch Kindle for Windows Phone on your device.
Scroll to the menu section of the panorama view.
Tap settings.
(If already signed in)
Tap the “deregister this device” button.
Tap “deregister” button.
Enter the same e-mail address and password for your Amazon.com account and select "Register."

No problem, Maybe try the Feedback and Support feature which is within the app to send an e-mail.

Case opened with Amazon Kindle Support

Please keep us apprised of the situation.

Hate to cross post, but I'm having a similar issue on my android device (nook color), as well as two windows pc's. I don't think this issue is isolated to one platform.

Thanks for info. Amazon are still investigating this issue

solved the same problem
I had the same problem. I accessed my app manager and changed the kindle app location from phone to sd card. After that all my queued books downloaded. I think the problem was not enough memory on my phone, or reserved memory on the phone and kindle auto DLs to location the app is installs. (could be wrong, but solved the problem anyway) hope this helps

WiFi printing using PrinterShare

So, I figured that I would post a confirmation that states that while using my NC and PrinterShare from the market I can print documents over my WiFi connection at home!
I was not sure if this would work, and it took the NC a bit to see the WiFi printer, but it works. I am going to purchase the full version now that I know that it works.
This NC gets cooler and cooler, day after day!
I am wondering if something can develop a way to auto-print documents that have been waiting in a queue. For example if I am at work, select 4 documents that need printing, and then the NC would send them to the printer once I connect to my home WiFi?
There is a hack that can send documents from any device to any online printer.
It's not too complicated - as long as both are linked to the same Dropbox account. You would just need to install a script in your Dropbox, then any documents you want to print would be uploaded to that folder.
I don't have the link (sorry) but I'll look for it... I'll post it when I find it .-)
Ok - found it... I think it might be windows only.
(These are just links that I've found... All credit goes to the original author)
First, you need a dropbox account. You would need to have it linked to your Nook and your computer with a printer.
If you don't already have one, feel free to use my link: http://db.tt/1lAXHf7
(There's all sorts of other things you can do with Dropbox, but this is one of the better ones for the Nook... as far as I can tell)
Here's the link to show you how to install the script:
http://www.labnol.org/internet/print-from-mobile-phones/17827/
I attached the zip file with the script, hope it helps!
This works (dropbox option). Just printed a document. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, the application works for me, I opted for the wrz version.
The dropbox version works for mac and linux too, you just need the script. I can not find the link now but I Googled dropbox printing and found a page that links to the mac and linux scripts. I tried the linux one.
thanks for the dropbox method it worked.
u can find the mac script here http://www.labnol.org/tech/print-files-on-remote-mac/17838/. and the linux script here http://www.labnol.org/software/print-files-on-linux/17841/
Printershare works on my Droid2 but not my nc

I was wondering if you or anyone could help me troubleshoot my setup. I have a brother mfc-j270w that is listed as a supported device on the printershare home page. I also have a rooted nc with no overclock and only modified location service files. It will see the printer and even show that the printing has been spooled and completed. The printer shows receiving the job, feeds the paper, but prints nothing.
I would assume that the printer firmware isn't compatible with the printershare drivers, but I've ran the same test from my Droid 2 and it works like a charm.
Any ideas?

Ok, so I think I've figured it out. It had to have been an IP address conflict. I set the printer to a static IP address and it seems to be working fine now. Also, the setup I'm striving for involves networking through wireless tether on my Droid 2. I have to make sure that I connect the nc immediately after starting the wireless tether app so that su is still active. For some reason, the su permissions seem to time out after a bit, but it never causes any interruption in wifi service. I can also get it to refresh the su permission and allow the nc to connect just by turning the screen back on. Is this normal?

The fact that the su privilege seems to come back when the screen is turned back on makes me think it may have something to do with the Superuser app being cached/inactive by Android (after some inactivity)?
You could check the Superuser Log and see if it shows another "allowed" entry after waking the screen?
Just throwing out ideas.

Easy GPS bluetoothed from your Android Phones. No ADB needed.

1. Download and install "ShareGPS" from market on your phone.
once the app is installed
make sure in the App's setting, check "Use bluetooth" and "Create NMEA"
2. Download and install "Bluetooth GPS provider" from market on your tablet.
once the app is installed
make sure you have these settings:
in the app preferences
check "Force"
check "Raw HDOP"
GPS type is set to "MTK"
Update rate is set to "10Hz"
SBAS is Enable
Next
on your phone, open sharegps, then bring up the menu, click make discoverable once.
then go to your tablet, bring up the bluetooth gps provider app,
go in to the preference, click chose GPS provider, do a scan, you should see your phone come up.
click on it.
you are all set.
Now setup the bluetooth gps provider widget on one of your home screens.
every time before your run any navigation apps on the tablet just make sure you go back to your phone,
bring up shareGPS,
bring up Menu and click Make discoverable.
then go to your tablet, and click once on the bluetooth gps widget.
if the widget turns "green", you have working gps on your tablet.
if the widget turns "red", meaning that your devices aren't pair correctly, just re-scan/re-pair your devices.
*** Also make sure you have "Allow mock locations" checked as well on your tablet. And that's in menu, setting, application, development.
Enjoy

Found an issue with share gps, while it works fine on any 2.2 ROM on your phone, but the nmea output is way off in certain area on 2.3 based ROMs. After a little bit of researching, I found that BlueNMEA works very well.
You can find it in market, disregard the rating, the app is very easy to use and just may take a couple of tries to pair both devices.
So use blueNMEA instead of shareGPS on your phone..
Also fo for those who are not able to find these apps, here is how I did it..
Downloaded all apps from market on phone.
Use rootexplorer and look in /data/app
Find those apps, copy and paste onto your sd card.
Then transfer over to the tablet.
Install.
I cannot get my market to find "bluetooth GPS provider" even after preforming the market fix several times. Can you post the apk?

Same here I only come up with network info II. But I see it in the market on my phone
I found it here http://www.filecrop.com/54831309/index.html
Working good for me on Vegan 5
thanks inbound
Edited for spelling, for some reason I was giving the western keyboard a second chance.
there is also tetheredGPS which started for the nook - has both client and server widgets included.
Works pretty well, over specific wifi port, and doesnt require both wifi and bluetooth to be on. power saver!

[Q] MS Store doesn't work via Fiddler proxy

I am trying to use Fiddler proxy for my Windows Phone 8 device. It works for almost everything (like Internet browsing, ActiveSync, Calendar and most of the apps) but it fails to work with the Store. I can see in the Fiddler's trace log that every time I try to install or update an app, the tunnel to login.live.com:443 gets opened correctly and nothing else happens after that. And the phone shows an error message "MS account service is unavailable right now"
Fiddler's Root certificate is installed on the phone. Fiddle is not complaining about client certificate, as it sometimes does. Turning proxy off for the WiFi connection brings everything back to normal.
Browsing the store works over a proxy, but the actual app download process (or possibly the license check process, or maybe both) is certificate-pinned. You can't MitM it without Microsoft's cert. (This has been known for months, if you read the threads about using a proxy with the store they all say you have to turn it off before hitting Install).

Tried doing a search you couldn't link me a few of the post on this could you please?
There's nothing to search for. He told you why it doesn't work. There's no way around it... Use the proxy to enable the download button for unavailable apps, but turn it off right before you tap download.
Yeah, you're not going to find actual details of the certificate pinning, as it's not documented by Microsoft. We only know about it from observing the phone's behavior.
I suppose we could reverse engineer the code to get more details, but that seems like a waste of time.

Xperia Z3C Live on YouTube Unable To Sign In

Hi there. Been using the Z3C all week and really enjoying it, but I've found one persistent problem with one of the built-in apps and am hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction for getting a fix.
I'm unable to get the Live On YouTube camera app (v 01.00.21) to sign in to my Google account. Firing up the app, I get the page requiring me to read and accept the terms and conditions of use. Fine, accepted. I then get the popup outlining the permissions - no problem, accepted. After this message disappears, I get a few seconds of the "loading" animation and then a popup tells me "Your YouTube account does not have the necessary permissions to create a live stream. Want to change your permissions now? ||No|Yes||".
When the error first occurred it was right enough - logging into YouTube on desktop I was able to establish that I didn't have live streaming enabled but despite now having enabled it, the camera app still returns the error saying my account doesn't have the necessary permissions. If I hit "Yes" it loads a YouTube URL and now when I land on the site there's a popup saying "You are already enabled for this feature".
I've tried wiping all the Live On YouTube application data via settings, I've tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling, but I keep getting hit with this error.
Can anyone suggest anything else I might want to try to get this feature working? Or does anyone have a suggestion of a better place to ask the question if it doesn't belong in this forum?
I can get mine working or at least set up ok, however, upon trying to run the option I just get a 'Creating Live Event' dialogue that stays on forever.
Its rather annoying I can do a share to my social media network of choice, so people can get to the right web page to see my live event, I just can't seem to get the phone to actually start streaming, despite setting up youtube ok. Has anyone yet managed to do a youtube live broadcast from their phone, and if so, can they detail what they did please.
I had this issue too. It was because I had 2 youtube profiles on my google account, so I enabled Live permissions on both profiles, and it worked.

We have a winner!
I was using YT under my original username, not realising that this meant my G+ identity had a whole separate profile on YT. Switched over to the "real name" profile and found live streaming wasn't enabled there. Enabled it and Robert is now my father's brother.
Fixed! Thanks very much.
How about the 'Creating Live Event' dialogue that stays on forever. Do you have that or does your stream ok.

Hi techguyone, the first time I tried it I got your message for a few seconds before it came back with an error message saying "unable to create live event". When I retried I got your message again for another few seconds before it appeared to work. I'm still waiting on the processing, but both the "failed" event and the longer test are now visible in my uploads, even if I can only currently view the (very short) failed one.
It looks like it's going to work for me.
Have you tried the old clearing-out-the-app-data-via-settings trick already?
Mine worked eventually, but its still kinda clunky, interestingly enough I found the other live app (Facebook one) to work straight away, and was a lot easier. I think I'll be using Facebook over Youtube in the future for any impromptu streaming.
This worked for me...
What I did is that I clicked on the avatar in the upper left corner of the screen, and scrolled down and signed out,and the signed in again with one of my two existing youtube accounts, and accepted all the terms and everything again from the beggining....Then I pressed the record button, it took a while to create an event, but it actually started the live streaming!!!!! :

excessive data

What would happen if I deleted the data in my fire prime photo and fire launcher apps? My device is a kindle fire 5th gen 7 running Fire OS 5.4.0.0 .
Pretty much nothing. If you are registered to Amazon, your info is on the cloud. The data will just pile up again. About the only way to at least limit the effect is to install a firewall and begin manually deleting the data of each app. I use NetGuard. If you buy the log and filter options (one time fee), you can block host names and manually block IPs that apps try to connect to. I believe 'Lock Down' is free. While setting everything up, you can immediatly stop all apps from using the internet, and choose which ones can and cant access it by selecting 'Allow In Lock Down Mode' from the drop down menu of each app in the list.
If you are a little more tech savvy and know how your way around IP ranges, you can block entire ranges manually with NoRoot Data Firewall. I started with this one, but I grew more attached to NetGuard.
Savvytech... and I have been experimenting trying to somehow 'break' an Amazon app. (I was successful only once. Somehow managed to delete ALL app data and it's stored data, including system apps. Haven't been able to repeat the process yet.)
Until then, aside from shutting off WiFi, and a firewall, you're stuck. However Brevent does a good job at killing and "disabling" most of Amazon's apps, until reboot. That's where I found Autorun Manager came in handy. It stops a good portion of Amazon's apps from booting when you power on, allowing Brevent to try and stop them from running once boot completes. Be advised though, with Brevent, you have to run a code through ADB every time you reboot the device. It gives you instructions upon installation.
Another tool, good to clean app cache and other junk, All In One Toolbox. It will at some point ask for Accessibility access. To save it the trouble, go to Settings, Accessibility, Scroll to bottom, Select 'All In One', confirm selection. Amazon won't let you give it 'Usage Access', so you will need to install Activity Launcher. I made a thread here, where you can get some detailed steps. Open it, tap drop down at top left. Select 'All Activities.' Scroll to 'Settings' and tap it. Scroll to 'Apps With Usage Access'. Select 'All In One'. Disable access to any of the listed Amazon apps or services if you like. I have for quite sometime so I don't think any harm comes to it. Probably just irritate Amazon's servers a bit more.
Given the firewall, Autorun and Brevent, at any given time, I never have more than 8 to 10 Amazon services or apps running, All In One controls memory pretty well, but sometimes you are better off force stopping apps yourself. Brevent will eventually be able to tell you which apps will auto start. It will be able to disable their background processes, but not their main ones.
Thanks! I'll try yo use the info, got a lot to learn".Thanks again!
To DragonFire1024 , I have installed netguard, no root data firewall ,brevent , all in one toolbox, activity launcher, and auto run manager. I also have the permission remover apks and the testkey.pk8 and testify.x509.pen files in my apk storage folder. Have been playing around with them ( the apps ) and have had some success. I can now see data dropping for a change! I'm still have not done everything you suggested - have to get funds in to buy the paid versions,
but what I' be done so far has helped a lot. No root firewall is what I'm using now ( as is ) - was blocked but got in the second time in activity launcher removed the app usage of the apps you suggested. I am having a bit of trouble with Brevent - I have not learned how to find and use the command line on my PC.Need to get a bit more tech savvy so I can get root access on my fire when it becomes available. Til then I'll push on! Pardon my writing skills, are not so good. Thanks again for helping! I'll be back soon, maybe I can give a few more details next time.
I have been trying to start Brevent - found command line on windows PC, tried entering commands but PC will not respond found and downloaded windows platform tools zip, extracted but I'm still stuck.what next?( I downloaded platform tools on my kindle fire 5th gen. , running fire OS 5.4.0.0 )
