[Q] htc hd7 sync - HD7 General

could someone tell me how in the name of god u sync this crap phone with ur desktop ala active sync or what ever it's new alternative is because active sync doesn't seem to exist for this phone.
my htc hd2 worked fine until it broke and my insurance co replaced it with this heap of crap. i can't even sync my hotmail now without downloading about 1000 email contacts that i don't want on my phone.
not to mention the 500 or so contacts that i do actually want which are stored on my desktop pc with sbp back up which apparently isn't compatible either.
do i have input every one of these 500+ contacts manually now? i also had them backed up in microsoft my phone which doesn't seem compatible either with this thing.
is it just me that's having these probs? someone reassure me please and tell how to get my contacts onto it before i smash it off the wall in frustration.
i have them stored in sbp back up, microsoft my phone and a PimBackup.pib file,
how do i get them onto my phone, any method will do?

I really, really wish you people would read and do research before coming on here with ignorant, angry posts... Posts like this make people not want to help, to be completely honest, and most veteran users are going to respond with some "Search the damn forums" reply simply because of your approach...
If you want to sync hotmail without importing the contacts, don't click on the Hotmail selection when setting up the account, click "Other email" and do it like that so it'll only sync the e-mail, and not the contacts. Second, there are a few ways to sync contacts, easiest is through an exchange server or syncing them to your live account which will then sync them to the phone. MyPhone, SBP, and all of those outdated systems will not work.

For synchronization on Windows Phone 7 you must use Zune Software, ActiveSync was discontinued in WP7
You can get it hare
http://www.zune.net/en-US/products/software/download/default.htm
About contacts,
As far I know there is no simple way from moving you contacts WM6 to WP7
For example you can use Exchange (if your company use it) you can sync contacts from WP6 to server, and then connect to you company server from WP7 and sync it, and you get your contacts on WP7.
If you can’t use Exchange Server for any reason, you can sync it on Hotmail or Google Gmail, both supports Exchange ActiveSync, just sync you contacts from WM6 to your hotmail or gmail account, and then same way sync it on WP7
Hare is how to sync on Hotmail
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704025
Or use this to sync to gmail using Exchange ActiveSync

i had searched the forums and it seemed there was no resolution to the contacts issue which quite frankly i was incensed over as it was the straw that broke the camels back with a phone i disliked a lot already. no tethering being another prob i can't get over, as i used my prev hd2 at least 50% of the time for this.
as for backing up my hd2 contacts in any other manner other than my outdated methods listed, that's completely impossible, my hd2 has broken, the insurance co now possess it. i did not know it was going to break nor did i realize my methods of backing up my info were so archaic and outdated. this is the replacement i was unfortunate enough to get from them.
as for the other re email contacts. i found the soln after posting but was too pissed to go back and edit. "you people", "ignorant"? fair enough if u want to label me that. thank you for ur opinion. i don't remember making a personal attack on u or anyone else but so be it. i thought my post wreaked of desperation and frustration after many many frustrating hrs with this "phone", i am not a techie at all, but obviously i was making a personal attack on u which warranted the personal attack on me. given the no. of posts u have i'm guessing ur a mod or vet member so i won't be surprised if i get a pm infracting or banning me for insulting u so deeply and personally.
Armarn, thanks very much for ur help, i appreciate it.

Far from either, but if that's your way of being frustrated or looking for assistance, I have a sippy cup for you, as for the contacts, I would Google a way to export them from MyPhone
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express

I love my HTC HD7, its a new phone and sure it has some bugs that need to be corrected. However if you dont like the phone then go buy yourself another one, and I search the forums or google it before you start a thread on a dead end subject!

Sync w/o Outlook

Hey folks,
Sorry to post such a 'simple' question, but I can't seem to google up the right words to find what I'm looking for -- and the links I did find didn't give me much personal opinions of different services.
I recently lost Sync options with my work (yay economy and licensing costs).. I loved using Outlook to sync my calender from MS Exchange to my phone... and I could use OWA to enter in my calender events from my computer. It also allowed my calender to survive flashes w/o backups.
I can't survive without my calender syncing, since the change i'm late to work constantly (I used to enter my shifts in OWA w/reminders 2 hours before to make sure I'm moving early enough to get ready & to work on time -- In case I'm watching a movie with the dog and don't notice the time)
I found 2 solutions, but both are around Google's calender, which I'm not super keen on, but could work:
1. Google Calender Mobile Website -- My understanding is it does reminders by SMS(?) and is mostly managed by google -- not the phone.
2. GooSync / OogSync -- Looks like it'll sync right into the phone's native calender -- But I didnt see verification of it syncing with the native calender, and/or if it supports making sure my reminders & other 'extra' information is sync'ed
I don't want to give Microsoft any money for outlook, so what do you all use :-/
Thanks guys, again, sorry for posting this issue without spending 3 hours researching first :-/ but getting a headache from trying to find a solution!
So, My needs:
1) Bi-directional Sync
2) Extra Information (e.g. Reminders) Sync
3) Easy entry/editing of calender info from a computer
Hopes:
4) Can work behind corporate firewalls blocking gmail, yahoo mail, etc.
5) Task Syncing
Thanks guys, love XDA

Possible ways to sync
Unfortunately the easiest way would be to sync through outlook.
Though your company may have cut licensing cost ask the IT gurus if your company may have an agreement with MS. It's called Home Use Program (HUP) LINK.
If they do you can buy a full office pack for home use for ~ $20 which is definitely worth doing it. Afterwards simply maintain your contacts at your home PC and sync them through the PC. You may export them out of your office outlook either as PAB or CSV file and import at home. AFAIK this doesn't work with outlook express, you need a full blown office outlook.
You may also look at the link below if this would do it for you.
http://www.tipsfor.us/2008/04/15/sy...ontacts-and-calendar-using-funambol-for-free/
Perhaps you have a friendly IT group. Download the attached file, rename ZIP to PDF and take a look, it may work in your environment.
have you tried mail2web? its outlook (OWA), syncs with your phone (email, contacts, calender, etc..) and you can also manage it on your computer. Best of all, its free http://exchange.mail2web.com/
Hmmm.. with e-mail forwarding from my gmail to this that might actually work out well... save battery life on checking multiple e-mail accounts...
In case someone stumbles on this, link to account setup is: http://services.mail2web.com/Services/exchangesolutions.asp
Took a bit of searchign to find that page, most of their stuff advertises their paid services.... I'll give the free one a try, if I like it I'd be willing to pay (or at least donate) for it
instead of Mail2web try out seven, mail forwarding service. found here, i swear by it, it's been such a good service, you do have to sign up but it remembers you, so if you switch to another phone, ROM, etc your e-mail account(s) will be saved and you can add multiple accounts, and set times for mail forwarding. I'm not sure about contacts, but it asks every time i restart it if i want to import my contacts from g-mail. it's definitely worth a try.

Contact sync with 2 different phones

Hi all,
Is there a way to sync 2 phones ( my tytn 2 and my girfriends Nokia E71 ) with windows (vista) ..... WITHOUT ...... sharing the contacts on eachothers phone ???
I don't want my girls 100+ contacts in my phone .... and she doesn't want mine. We both would like our contacts in outlook 2007 though.
Any suggestion ( divorse is not a vallid option )
create 2 different users on vista or buy a new computer
Yeah, I think it's just a matter of setting up a second Vista user account. If you have two people using a computer, having multiple accounts is really darn useful from a practical standpoint.
Edit: rereading your question, I'm wondering if you DO want your girlfriend's contacts available in Outlook, just not on your phone. That might be trickier. I think you could do it using exclusions of some sort in Outlook, but I've never tried and couldn't talk you through it.
Hi thx for the replies,
We like to share the outlook agenda .... just not the contacts. Will be difficult i supose. I hoped there was somsort of software that could arange this.
I will try playing with accounts instead but its not the solution i like
If you want to share events in a calender perhaps make a google/other ical calender and add that to both your seperate user accnts on vista

Searching for people in HD7

I find that I can search in people for a person's first name or surname, but I cannot search, for example for a company. Does anyone have a way of doing this, or is this another shortcoming in Phone 7?

have you tried going into you contact and linking all the duplicates together. for instance if i have a contact in facebook AND my contacts, i have them linked together.
I've just gone through my contacts linking them and it sure as hell cleans them up.
I selected it so it only showed contacts from Facebook I have details for already on the phone too, then went and linked all of their accounts...
Have to say, very impressed with how it looks once you've done that. It will allow you to sync your LIVE contacts as well...
out of the box, it's messy but once it's configured it looks great.
What really annoys me is the fact it seems impossible to remove an email account with re-setting the phone, now that is a FAIL! - if anyone knows if it is possible, please do let me know!

hey xma1e
I've cleaned up the list, however, I still have people on the list I don't really want.
1 ) I have my sim card contacts which I have linked facebook and hotmail with (perfect)
2) I have contacts from my hotmail contacts list which I dont want to show
On point 2. how do I remove Hotmail contacts from the people hub....I just dont want people from my HOTMAIL contact list appear. If you owned a HD2 , you would have the option to sync or not sync hotmail contacts which was PERFECT ! , on the WP7 OS you have no option unless you know how to resolve it

I cant find a way to do this either. You have the option to disable contact syncing for gmail, but when you go into the email and accounts settings for windows live, it only gives you the option to disable the syncing of email. I dont want my contact list full of s*** from windows live.

As far as I know, you cannot do this. The way Windows Phone 7 handles contact management is different than Windows Mobile 6.x. Windows Mobile 6.x and Windows Live (Hotmail) are separate components, so you could choose to not sync certain information if you wanted to (or remove Windows Live completely even).
Because Windows Live (Hotmail) is so tightly integrated with Windows Phone 7, it assumes that whatever Windows Live account you chose to apply to your WP7 device is your main account for your information (e-mail, contacts, calendar, etc.). So of course, because it assumes this, it's only natural that you'd want to always see and sync your contact list from Hotmail.
The only way around this at the moment would be to delete your contacts entirely from your current Windows Live account, or to link your phone with a new, empty Windows Live account that doesn't have any contact information (this would allow you to maintain your other account separately).

[Q] HTC HD7 Outlook synchronization not possible

HTC HD7 with WM7 - there is no provision to synchronise with microsoft outlook using Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Centre.
Alternate way of using Exchange Activesync does look complicated
Please address the issue
This has been Answered
There are some workarounds & a 3rd party app, the solutions have been posted and can be easily found with a simple search (here is a hint, CompanionLink for outlook, Windows Live Connector, Gmail Sync). This is a very hot issue and I suspect there will be more solutions forthcomming
Cheers

My Milage
I tried the Hotmail connector, I had some issues, it seemed to have problems dealing with more than 250 contacts. I am using the Demo version of CompanionLink and syncing to my gmail acct and that is working very nicely.
cheers

I followed method two from the two ways to sync and worked just fine. I kind of like getting away from Outlook anyway. Hotmail/Windows Live is great since it can used through any computer contected to the internet to update contacts, phone numbers, etc. But I could see if this is an issue if you primarily use Outlook.

The problem I have is my company isn't running Exchange so for me to get my calendar and contacts I need a way to sync with Outlook.
I've tried Hotmail Connector and it works well for a one time sync but if you have a lot of changes to your calendar I have to make the changes in Outlook and Hotmail.
I refuse to pay $40 for something that should work out of the box.

Unfortunately, both are cloud solutions, which are unacceptable to me for both security and privacy.
If the WM7 device were seen as an external storage device (apparently doable via the registry), does anyone know whether this could faciliate a direct USB sync with Outlook 2010 32-bit?
Both solutions are OK for a one off copy of Calender & Contacts but do not perform a true contniuous Sync with Outlook and do not handle TASKS

if you are not ready to play with the cloud, I don't think wp7 is for you. They seem very serious about making the cloud an integral part of the OS going forward.

no microsoft myphone. All syncing goes through your live email address (like hotmail). For me, I had all my contact info on gmail because of playing on android with my hd2.
1. Logged into hotmail
2. clicked on import contacts under the contacts view
3. Clicked on gmail and followed the instructions
Took about 10 minutes.
For outlook I'm pretty sure you can do something similar, though I think you might need outlook connector from the marketplace to bridge it over from outlook to hotmail. You will only have to do this once, but then I guess your outlook will not be a syncable acct on you phone.
Just looked on my hotmail and it says to export your outlook contacts to a file that you can then upload to hotmail.
I'm a Windows Mobile User for 2 years now (SE Xperia X1) and loved the way I can sync it with outlook.
I have all my contacts (approx 500) in outlook and also use the calendar (+5000 items)
I've spent some time in the past to get the info on my contacts straight and I'm very disappointed about the lack of synchronisation options between WP7 and outlook.
Why does everything needs to be cloud-based.
I don't sync every day, but neither use outlook on everyday basis.
I never experienced syncing problems on either calender/notes/contacts or mail.
I have read something about features that will be added in the near future into WP7 and hope that local outlook synchronisation is one of them.
Hi guys,
I`m new to WM7 and i`m trying t sync my contacts as well. I don`t use Outlook and idon`t have an account. Is there any other way to get my contacts on te phone?
Thanks
So the windows 7 software allows syncing to google calender, email and contacts?
I'm stunned that there is no native support for Outlook synchronization with Exchange - this is old school and what I consider a core component of any smartphone I purchase.
I've just bought a HD7 assuming it would have this functionality (why would I check for this on a Windows phone, next I'll need to check the thing makes calls), guess I'm going to have to sell it on.
There maybe Third party solutions but I can't imagine they're ever going to work as well as a direct sync with the Exchange server in my office, giving Contacts, Tasks, Calendar Items, etc.
Absolutely gutted.
B
Of course there's native support.
If you have an exchange server, you have ZERO to worry about.
The issue is people who use Outlook for Pop and Imap. Or people who just use it for tasks and contacts. Without a Hotmail Connector, there is no way to interface with Outlook like the old school Active Sync did.
Again though, If you have Exchange, it works exactly like it does on any other platform, if not better. The only thing lacking right now is Tasks.
Jimbonics,
I could kiss you. My wife wouldn't like it (and neither would you most likely, I'm stubbly)
I've been reading phone forums, reviews and specs for what seems like months trying to choose the right phone (offline voice command via bluetooth is essential for me but Android doesn't do it and other devices have flaky support) so I skim read this thread: my bad.
Thanks for making my day.

[Q] Any updates on Outlook Sync?

Running fresh install 2.2 on captivate - I've spent the last several hours trying to find a way to sync the captivate with outlook... and nothing is coming up as a reliable & cheap way. I would have never thought that a modern(ish) phone would have issues syncing with outlook. Never had a problem from the old 8125 up to iphone 3gs... but thought I would check with y'all to see if anything less than $50 has come up that would do the trick. I've tried Kies/MyPhoneExplorer(didn't see outlook calendar data except holidays and recurring events). I don't want to mess with google calendars and I live by the calendars for scheduling business! Any recent developments I should look in to?
Android and Outlook have generally never been close friends. There are a few paid apps you can find that do a very good job of keeping your information in sync.
If your business uses exchange you can set up your exchange account in the e-mail app on your phone and it will allow you to sync you mail, calendar and contacts.

Unfortunately my work is my business of me, myself, and I - so I haven't popped for an exchange server, but the frustration is almost close enough to just look into getting one done - and I've had a hard time finding an ap that syncs outlook and respective contact fields properly with the phone. I understand it's a google vs. MS deal and so they don't want to make it an easy one.... but it's a stupid idea since it will just push people to use iPhone, IMO. For now, I've relented to having to clumsily use google sync and the google calendar program to sync between to two. I just hate having middlemen to have to do it.
I use Kies 1.5.3.10093_80. I hear the newer versions are blocked from working with the captivate, but the older version works find for syncing w/outlook on my home system.

I use the same apps, to keep contacts and calendar sync. For the E-Mail I just configure in Outlook the Gmail account as IMAP. The only drawback is with the custome field in google that Outlook can't handle.
