[REQ] soft keys (buttons) to save our hard keys on hd2(wp7) - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Themes and Apps

as we all are into new revolution on our hd2 is windows phone 7...
i have broken back button ... and m pretty sure lot of people have done this using android on our monster HD2 ...
we had button savior software in android (available on market too) to bypass use of hard key ...
so we ware all set .. but after seeing windows phone 7 and its cool animations i love it but m not able to use it bcs i have to use back button in wp7
any developer can develop soft keys Penal which says at bottom of screen ??
i can pay for it and also that will be one and only app which would do it ...

I don't think that this would be possible with the current api's available to developers.

Well, in my prespective, I think buttons were made to be pressed.
And in the case of your broken button(s) I see that as an individual situation, I have had my HD2 for over 9 months, 6 of them were Android and my buttons look just new .
If you treat your buttons like how you treat your fingers they will live long . I voted no.
Still, it's just my opinion

i agree we need button savior for wp7

I asked jerryfan2000 if he could make it. He hadn't responded back yet.

Not possible, apps cant run in the background.

Exactly, the os and the SDK for it are extremely limited. That's why it's so fast. Only processes made by microsoft can run in the background (media player for example).

I would suggest in this situation that considering wp7 phones come with 3 hardware keys, it would be a possibility to remap those instead of using software keys, try looking into it.

I'm really agree with it, if it sin't possible then it would be nice to do remapping the hard key. Dial to phone, home to home screen, windows to menu and red power button leave it that way plus disengaged call.

+1
vote: yes, although it seems impossible at this moment. it sometimes needs more few times as long as wm7 has just come out...

Back button
how the heck you break your button and anyways is your phone take care of it is like a pussie treat it nice

No........

+1..Our phone had runned a long way and still is..Anything is possible..

There has to be at least one hardware key which leads to the camera app, it`s the way the OS was designed to work. The same goes for a search button, there simply has to be one. As for the others... well, they are already properly assigned. There`s not much to remap, really.
As for the OP, I really think you should flash WM 6.5 and fix your hardware buttons. As somebody else mentioned, they`re made to be pressed and used. It`s just that you need to be gentle when handling them. The HD2 is an expensive and fragile device, it`s not your regular Nokia device which can be used to break bricks...

All my buttons work on my HD2 but I would like a second option to interact with my phone and I think the on screen buttons would be a great add-on. It would calm my nerves knowing that my buttons will be still around for the next gen OS for the HD2

i would say yes just to use the call buttons and not feel i am using a toy

waiting for the official update next month which is said to allow third party app running background

i hope it will be possible in near future ...

Yes...my red button is kinda broken

Now is possible with Mango release ?

side scroller thing useless, can we..

is any way to remap that scroller on the side to do something more useful like adjust volume or anything? if i want to scroll i can use the little d-pad or the stylus, that thing is just wasting space.
I agree!
Adjusting the volume would be great.

and adding weight... its terrible i tell ya... TERRIBLE...
no but seriously i thought the same exact thing when i bought the phone. now.. i just dont even bother with it.
Volume control would be really handy.
You can adjust the volume with it.
yep, you can adjust the volume with it whilst on a call.
I guess you mean adjust the volume of the ring or the windows sounds - not sure if this is poss or not
i know exactly what you mean....you want it just like the old cingular 8125 was ...instead of a wheel it was more of like a switch that went up or down to adjust volume at any time.
i use that wheel all the time for scrolling. It's WAY faster to navigate than the dpad, ...
Useless is as usless does - scroll wheel and/or tiny OK button

I certainly don't use the scroll wheel as much as I probably should . . . but what about the OK button below the scroll wheel? Talk about useless . . . I don't think I've ever used it except to test it or try to map something useful to it - I truly don't see the point of that button when there's a perfectly good OK button right by the D-pad

Both the wheel and the ok button are there for blackberry device users who use those two input devices as a good 80% of their navigation.
Only problem, blackberry device users try to use the kaiser like a blackberry and find out it sucks in that aspect, and exchange it so they can get their old crackberry back. And PDA users are used to using the other 20 pre-existing ways to navigate the device without using the wheel and OK button.
I feel sorry for those poor wheel/button sometimes.
I like to just play with it sometimes when its in my pocket or i have my phone locked and use it for useless fun.
It's all about choice, isn't it? If you're used to d-pads you probably never go near that wheel, or the little ok button by it. If, like me, you're used to Symbian UIQ phones, which just happen to have a wheel and a "back" (same as ok) button exactly where the Kaiser's are, they're a godsend. Because I'm used to them being the primary controller (no d-pad on a Sony Ericsson P910, or M600i), I use them all the time - the d-pad is just a nice extra. Without them, I'd probably struggle, at least to begin with.
I think HTC have just put a lot of thought into how different people use these devices, and tried to cater for as many as possible.
Try AE Button Plus!

I use the button alot. Maybe because my hands are large I find that using it to ok/close is more comfortable than pressing the one on the face of the device.
For right handed use, anyways. and for picsel browser its mapped to page zooming, so... Its quite handy.

Idea for a Useful App - Anything like it?

I was curious if there is an app that will, upon pressing and holding a key such as the PTT key or end key, would subsequently end all running tasks, lock the phone, and put it in standby.
If there is such an app would anyone care to enlighten me? If not, I think there may be a market for such a thing. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before and I'm sure I'll do it again soon.
I tried searching xda with google and the xda search and didn't get lucky. Sorry otherwise.
I must confess that would be very useful. Not being a programmer i don't know if its possible or not. Any ideas anyone??
I have not come across such a function and all I have been looking for is a utility that will allow another button to put my tilt into standby (I find it a little difficult feeling the power button w/o looking)!
perhaps we should ask WAKU (creator of wktask) to see if he can import that excellent software into buttons. He has all functions available thru wktask such as closeall/suspend and he can add lock easily. he hasn't updated as frequently anymore perhaps more people should donate
Ill email him, to see if hes willing to do it!
I, too, have asked about this type of functionality. I'd love to hit the power button or the PTT button and have it close all apps (except for those in an exception list) and put the phone in standby.
The last time I asked about this the best reply was someone suggesting that perhaps a mortscript could be written to do it. I never looked further into it.
its possible, but i have never maked programs for ppc =/.. if someone has an idea, or if it is like c/c++ i can..
I use the excellent and free AE Button Plus.
I have a triple press of the ok button place the phone in standby.
(I have a double press of the ok button launch S2U2 to lock the phone and turn off the display but leave the GPS running)
pjam
Its definitely possible. All the individual components have already been done: You can remap the PTT button, , some 3rd party task managers have "end all" features, and software like S2U2 can easily lock your phone. Perhaps you could rig some sort of script to run them all, or find someone to program up a less jerry-rigged version. I don't think that the app would be all that popular, maybe the script is the best way to go.
I am fairly certain I can do this with an action sender & using one of the keyboard driver shortcuts (Short_Power.lnk). I will have a go at compiling a small actions send proggie & seeing if I can compile the kill arguments into it. I can definitely get you into suspend or stand-by, it's the killing of everything else that getting me. So far I can't get both functions into the same key press.

Center button on Diamond...

Hi, I'm still relatively new to using the diamond... (approx 2 weeks...)
This is my first WinMo phone also so I'm just trying to get use to it. My question is, does anyone find very little use for the Center Button on the Diamond? Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that around the button is a senstivity for autofocus and zooming, etc. But other then taking a shot with the phone I rarely use that middle button. Am I doing something wrong or if possible can someone tell me what else the center button can do because I'm still finding doing things on the Diamond a little bit slower... Thanks.

If you press and hold on a file for example you get the basic editing options such as paste, copy, delete, rename etc...
There are many other uses but I have to get back to work!! Im sure more members are gonna guide you.
Luck!
I mostly use it for zooming in and out while browsing.
it can be enabled to do scrolling for almost any app - search the forum and you will surely find it...
The centre button is essentially an 'action' button. If you notice that immediately north/south/east/west of it (on the ridged circle) there are softkeys you can press down to navigate and highlight whatever is on screen, depending on the context of what you are using (TF3D, file explorer, browser, etc) much like using the arrow keys on a standard pc. The centre button can then be used to 'select' the highlighted item much like tapping the stylus on it (or hold the button down like holding the stylus to get the context menu etc etc) this makes it easy to select things in a narrow list if you dont want to use the stylus and have fat fingers
Hope this goes some way to hint at what you can use it for!
It's good to get used to some hardware keys, this center button and navigating with 'arrow keys'.
It gets you more speedy and productive, using touchscreen is not ALWAYS the best, it's quite inaccurate (since I don't push always exact at the right spot). So on those moment it's very helpful to become familiar with the HW keys
edit: Oups, i'm not on the good topic ! Sorry
If a moderator can remove this post ...
actually i use the hardware buttons a lot, just cause i like the way they feel when i press them. i know, sounds weird, but hey, they do a hell of a job for me.

TouchFLO 3D: map left button to home tab?

Is there a way to remap left hardware button to TouchFLO 3D home tab? I had a Diamond, was used to home button, and I want the XPeria left button to have the same behaviour.
It was hard for me to find that too, but then I realized that I can go to home tab by pressing the hang up button.
Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Buttons and map hw button of choice to "today".
Dont get me wrong, but was it really THAT difficult to just try and look for it by yourself on your phone?? It's not some fancy registry tweak..just a plain simple wm option as old as the world. Sometimes i wonder how many people buy a certain device "because it looks so cool" or "omg that ad is awesome!" and have actually NO IDEA of what's inside what they are buying...hope you don't fall within this category.

MacCarron, if you think I'm such a newbie and don't know what I'm doing, you are so wrong.
Wanna try something? Do what you said to me, map left button to "today". Now, in TouchFLO 3D, go to another tab, Internet, for example. Now press the left button, which you did happen to map to "today" (at least I hope so). What happens now? NOTHING!! In fact, that "today" is WM today. TouchFLO 3D is a plugin, so you can't assign home tab to left button.
Assign "today" to left button works different than Diamond's home button, which in fact was assigned to TouchFLO 3D home tab.
Anyway, thanks for (not) helping.
M.Ozturk, thanks, I realized that, I was looking for a way to map left or right hardware buttons.

Mine works just fine pal..whenever,wherever i am, it takes me back to today. (should i provide a video proving it? lol.) In fact i've been using the hw keys mapped in this manner for a year, and it always works. Question your actions instead of calling someone a smartass privately and publicly. Or did you think i had made up those instructions i gave you without ever applying them, either right before giving them to you or in the past? Sad. This said, i'm out, "since you are so smart" figure what's wrong with your (i'd say rom) by yourself.

Yeah, maybe it's a ROM matter (I've been playing around with two or three, since it's been 2 days I have the Xperia). But if it's a ROM matter, it's not as easy as you described initially, right?
What just pissed me off is that you assumed that I haven't searched, or tried the simple way you have told me.
Just read what you wrote:

Do you really think I'm that kind of person? If you think, yeah I can think that you are a smartass too, right?
Wouldn't it be easier if you just tell me "maybe it's a ROM problem", Mr. Xperia-expert-who-knows-everything-and-others-don't??
I also used to have touch diamond, and would love to have this behaviour as well. I use Touch X 10.1 and mapping to "today" just takes you to TF3d, doesn't take you to home screen

I apologize for taking you for a newbie without the ability to learn and search, but lately xda has been drowning in stupid questions. Since i figured out the issue by myself long ago and it was really easy i assumed you hadn't even tried, like many people around here ("guys how do i flash a rom?"). Sorry. Btw i said i hoped you did not fall within the category..If it's a ROM matter it gets way more complicated and possibly unfixable without knowing what the chef cooked in. What ROM are you using? Since i got my x1 i tried NRGZ, Itje, Smaberg, Rota and Agent and hw buttons assignment has always worked..
Ok, apologies accepted.
I'm trying now Touch X 10.8.2 Legendary, and cannot map hardware buttons like that. I'll go back to Valkyrie v4.2 Firestorm and see what happens.
I suspect that buttons functionality depends on Manila build version.
shortcut to home page
Create a shortcut to:
Code:
\Windows\manila.exe --switchtopage Manila://home.page
Place this shortcut into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and assign it to the needed button.

[REF][REQ]How to Remap Hardkey(button) Actions

Our Blackstone has always suffered from the fate of an UGLY sister... from not getting official WM 6.5 to Lack of Hardware windows button. i decided to start this thread so that we can find out some way to Remap Hardware Button (HOME) to Windows start......
For the 2 years i had my Blackstone i know that i hardly used this button so it would be nice to remap it to Windows button.... also we can have the added feature of removing the Start button from bottom of screen and have more HTC HD mini like sense 2.5 look for those of us who use WM 6.5.5......
Any help into this matter would be greatly appreciated.... and on other forms ppl have remaped hardware buttons like this one .... for HERO
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695936
Actually, the home button is not a hardware key. Its a part of the touchscreen. Only hardware keys are VOL up/down (pwr, rst also)
hink this is possibke
as stated the post above it isnt a real hardwarekey so its arranged by manilladesktop.dll i believe
im writing this from my phone sso cant check if its the right dll name
if its a dll you can rewrite the dll to point to start instead of home

currently im using the PICKUP key for manual rotate, since this is the only button available to remap it's long-press function.
well i took a quick look but it isnt something i can arrange for you
all kind of strange numbers and stuff in there that i cant read
i still think it should be possible though if someone with more knowladge of dll files and writing them comes in help
