[Q] SD Upgrade Problem? - Liquid S100 General

I've got a problem with replacing the SD card. I searched for it and it seems like no-brainer. But I don't know what the problem is:
I bought a 16 GB Transcend to replace the SanDisk 2GB that came with my Liquid.
I have [Leaked]Froyo ROM. I had many apps on SD and some on the phone.
Here is what I did:
- I unmounted the 2GB card in my phone and turned it off.
- I put the new card and turned the phone back on.
- Then connected the old card with a card reader to my Mac. Also, connected the phone via USB and turned the USB storage on.
- I just copied everything from the old card to the new card and turned the USB storage off.
Now here's the problem:
None of the apps on SD are working! And they are not linked! It seems they are not installed.
When I tap their home screen icons, I get the error: "The application is not installed on your phone"
Also, only the apps on the phone are shown in applications.
I double tried the same process with formatting the new card in the phone, but got the same thing. I also copied the hidden folders as well. No luck with that, too.
Any suggestions? It is really driving me ...
BTW, I put the old card back and it is working just fine.

Problem Solved!
I finally found out what the problem was and upgraded my microSD successfully with all the applications working.
I decided to post the SOLUTION so it may help others as well:
The key issue is in the .android_secure folder on the SD card. Before this, I didn't know it is the place where Froyo puts all the apps that are transferred to SD.
Here are the steps that worked for me:
1) Unmounted the old SD and turned the phone off.
2) Copied EVERYTHING from the old card to my PC (I used a card reader).
**ATTENTION: By everything I mean all the files and folders including folders starting with "." (Especially .android_secure)
3) Formatted the new card (FAT32) using the Windows.
**FOR CAUTION: DO NOT use the phone to format the card. Because it makes a .android_secure and it will screw with the one you want to replace. [If you have done it anyways, just make sure to REPLACE the .android_secure folder]
4) Connected the new card to the PC and paste everything to it.
5) Put the new card in to the phone and turn it back on. BINGO! All should work without any problem.

Storage Card not showing up

Hi guys
Had problems yesterday with my Storage Card being renamed to Storage Card2 etc and could not figure out what was up. Renamed it back as described in various places (By deleting the Storage Card folder created and resetting).
Today however the Storage Card is not showing up at all. Have tried the following:
- Remove storage card, copy contents onto PC using card reader and formatting. Copy contents back and put in phone. -> No luck.
- Hard reset. -> No luck.
Never had any other roms than the standard. Have not upgraded to 6.1 yet.
Could the contents stop it from showing up?
Cheers
Louis
One thing i could think of is a corrupt file.
Try formatting it again (with all your files backed up in your PC) and just insert the card with nothing on it. If it shows up and your phone reads it, a good bet that one or more of your files from your backup is corrupt and the phone is unable to read the card.
yes i suppose that is a logical step to do. lets hope it is. but luckily it is still under warranty if it is hardware...
Reformated the card (FAT32 is this right?) and loaded into HTC TyTN II without restoring files onto it (i.e. completely blank).
Still not showing up...
Any ideas?
ur storage card reader might have become faulty. i would recommend a warranty exchange for ur device.
Installing WM6.1 sorted this out...
I have the exact same problem as you had.. But I already have WM 6.1 and the storage card still doesn't show up..
Tried formating, etc and still nothing.. I can see all the contents if i use a card reader on my PC, but once I insert de card on my kaiser it doesn't show up..
Any ideas?
Have you hard reset? It didn't help me until I installed the WM6.1. Otherwise is it still under warranty. I was actually on the way to take mine in when I installed 6.1. Actually I should have taken it in as I have a scratch on my screen and I suspect they would have replaced the phone...
This problem usually happens if you are using a third party file explorer like Resco etc. and make non visible areas such as your ROM visible.
It then treats the new area as Storage card and the SD card becomes Storage card2.
Just check if you have any other memory areas set as viewable and undo this.
My storage card completely disapeared but came back when I installed WM6.1. Didn't use 3rd party explorers etc. But this might be Baretto's problem.
This problem also occurs when running Card Export II. The Storage Card is renamed as Storage Card2. The only solution is to remove the card and re-insert it.
This solved the problem for me.
Regards,
MAC
The problem I originally described here was the Storage Card disappearing completely. Not renamed etc. I.e. there is no Storage Card2. Baretto may have a similar problem to mine or his may also just be renamed.
Yes, I have the exact same prob as lrossouw did. My mem card wasn't renamed. It just disapeared..
I've already did hard-reset, and I don't use any third party explorer.. I already formated the card.
My only hope is to flash another rom.
I'm using the official HTC 6.1 portuguese rom and i'de like to stick with this rom..
If I was the only one with this problem, I would think it would be a hardware prob, but lrossouw solved his prob by flashing another ROM, so I'm hoping there will be another solution..
EDIT: Just tried to flash another ROM and still no success.. Still Can't find my mem card
I got one better for you. I had to wind up formatting mine because of this. Here's the deal. I go to open up my storage card and the folder is there but none of my files are showing. Then I go to the memory to check the space available and it was still showing that I had half of the card full. So I popped out the card and plugged it into my computer with the same results, nothing. So then I soft reset twice, nothing. I pim backed up my phone and hard reset, nothing. The pim back up was on my card but nothing else. Then I made another my documents folder and for a split second it showed the files that use to be in the old my documents. So seeing that all was lost I formatted my card and I haven't had any problems yet. I started a thread about this but no one responded so I assumed no one else had this problem.
P.S. I have an 8gig sdhc card

No one has answered you, because there are already other threads about that problem.. Search and you will find them..
This thread is not about empty mem cards.. It's about the device not recognizing the card, so pls refer to other threads..
Thanks
Baretto is it possible to reflash it with the wm6.1 rom? It might fix it.

LOL,
Guy this is the easiest fix ever.
All you do is delete the folder that says "Storage Card" then remove & reinsert the SD card. SD 2 will disappear & be corrected upon reinsertion.
This issue happens because of the Unload delay & sometimes because of SD Power management issues.
Always best to make sure SD Card Power Management is DISABLED.

As I & Baretto posted before (read the bit you quoted) there is no *spoon* (edit:storage card folder). It is not there. Can't delete it if it is not there. There is no Storage Card 1,2 or any number either. The storage card is not showing up anywhere and not as SD2 either.
Mine was fixed by upgrading to wm6.1. Baretto is on wm6.1 already.
@ lrossouw
I already tried to reflash it with HTC original 6.1 rom and other 6.1 cooked roms and nothing..
I'm getting desperate..
I'm thinking about sending it to the warranty, but I'm predicting 1 or 2 months without my Kaiser if I do so
@ GSLEON3
What do you mean by "SD Power management issues"? As lrossouw said, I don't have the SD card rename problem, but maybe my Kaiser ins't recognizing the SD card because of something related with power mangement..
It might be power related. My phone was on very very low battery power just before this happened for me. In fact had to reset itself a couple of time due to low battery. The next day the storage card was gone.
Anythign similar for you Baretto?

[Q] External SD Card Wipes anything copied onto it!

Here's a weird one. I am not trying anything complicated. I just want to copy some music to my new 32GB external SD card that arrived in the post today. I put it into a microSD to SD adaptor, and slide it into my laptops SD slot. It shows up as fat32 and I drag 30 gigs of music on to it. After a long time it completes, and I check in with XP to make sure its all good. Yep fine.
However, the moment I insert it back into my I9000 things get weird. The status bar pops up the usual "Initialising SD card" message, then the media scanner comes up and completes in like a second. Then when I try to browse it from within the phone, the entire music directory has disappeared, and the OS is reporting that there is 28gb of 32gb free on the external sd. So I unmount the SD, slot it back into my pc, and find to my dismay the music directory has indeed been erased.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. I need my tunes!!
Cheers,
C

My 1st guess is fake/faulty card.
Copy files onto card with a reader.
Eject.
Insert again into reader.
Try to copy from card. (If it fails -> card is faulty or is FAKE)

If I were to guess, when the phone says it's "Initializing SD card" it's likely formatting the card and erasing whatever data you had on it...
When you install the card in your PC, do you format it again and then copy the files? If so, try not to format it on the PC and let the phone do the formatting.
I fully agree. Let the phone format the card and then use MOUNT mode to copy the music over. It seems Fat32 (formated on PC) won't work well for our phones prob due to a flag setting or something the like too big cluster settings. Let the phone sort it out.
Thanks for the help peeps. Here's what I've tried:
Xan: I tried copying files to and from the device using my PC's card reader, and found no problems with it. It is a Kingston MicroSD SDC4/32GB bought from a reseller on Amazon. Are there any tools for around for the pc to run diagnostic tests on SD cards? Maybe I should give that a go? But from the looks of it I think the error lies in the phone somewhere...
An Droid: I am inclined to agree with you. In my original post I stated that it said "Inititialising SD Card", this was a mistake, as it actually says "Preparing SD Card". I have tried formatting it from both the PC and the Phone and still get the same problem.
Icky Boo: I tried this method last night. Used the USB Debugging mode to Mount the phone's card's onto my PC. My Computer displays the two cards as two seperate Drives. I then tried copying all my music onto it. When the copy completed, I pressed "Turn of USB Storage Mode" on the I9000, which immediately prompted the status bar to again show "Preparing SD Card". Then when I used a file explorer to look at the card, it only had about a gig of music copied onto it. It is quite clear now that in "Preparing SD Card" it is doing something strange. Is there anyway to disable this?
Also there is a directory on the SD called Lost.DIR which seems to increase in size every time this happens. Could be a clue?
Finally, just to confirm my phone is mounting it correctly, to browse the SD card from within the phone the path is /sdcard/external_sd/ right? (I understand this is the new path for Froyo 2.2?)
Thanks for the help, sorry for the essay!

UPDATE: Ok, Xan, you were right all along. Finally got a new SD card (sandisk this time, not Kingston) and it works just as it should. Thanks for the help and to everyone else too

[Q] SOLVED: Connecting with USB shows only internal memorycard...

HI!
I have this problem that when I turn on the file sharing, the computer shows only internal memory card and not the external. Because the phone itself recognizes the external card I have tried to unmount and mount several times without any improvement. I am currently using the latest CM7 nightly, but the problem seemes to have started after I changed the card from 4gb to 16 gb. Any ideas?
EDIT: Erasing sd card from the phones menu helped to solve the problem.
Go Setting>Storage and remount your sd card and try???
I've done that several times....no help... android system accesses the card without problems...music, pics etc.
Did you physically remove your card and reinsert it, or just software remount?
Have you tried the card directly in your computer?
Have a look in windows device manager and see if it reports any problems. (right
click my computer and select manage)
I have tried it all and everything is ok with the sd card itself (I copied recent nightly from the computer on the sd card) also recovery recognizes is... there are also no problems in device manager...
Try to put on debugging mode. And try it with debugging mode on.
If the debugging mode is on try to take it off.
Regards Kali
I tried that also and nothing changed.... I have a feeling that it is somehow attached to me using mybackup pro... I restored application apk and data from another phone to this one and It seems that usually the application data should go to internal memory card. In this case it is on external card... so i believe that somehow the programs are still using the card when connected and do not allow phone to share it out... It's just a guess though...
EDIT: so I think the solution is to wipe everything and start all over again
So I fresh installed Rom and wiped everything and the problem still exist... still can see files with file managers in phone and when connected to computer, autorun shows only internal card...
Edit: I tried now 2gb sized sdcard and it works perfectly... the problem is with 16gb card.
Weird. Did you try another USB-port?
I tried different USB-s now and still same I found out that when I connect the phone, under my computer appears two removable disks.... if I turn on the usb connection, only one transforms to usable removable disk (internal) and the other one asks to insert the removable disk. I used the same sd card on my HTC desire with CM nightlies and it worked perfectly... could it be CM-s bug?
Sorry to ask (maby the obvious)
On Your phone.. using your filemanager (Root explorer astro or what-ever..)
Browse to sdcard
Do you have a folder called _externalSD?
On this phone, for some reason the external SD is not mounted under./ but as i said under ./sdcard/ (i.e its mounted under the internal SD card..)
Just a thought
Where the different cards are mounted doesn't make any difference. And as he said, it works with other cards (2GB and 4GB).
CyanogenMOD mounts internal card as /mnt/emmc, and external card as /mnt/sdcard by default.
When turning on USB storage, both cards should be unmounted and shared over USB.
Hi, I had the same problem with mine, and as you said in one of your previous posts, I had to do a format through the phone and as soon as I did that I was good to go.
I did use the same memory card in my old hero so this might have something to do with it... I'm not sure.
By formatting do you mean from the menu Erase SD card? On the desire I actually had the formatting request from the computer, but there was another problem (some of the rom's files were on the sdcards ext or something and I had no access to the card from the USB).... kind of a similar problem if I think back now but after changing to CM, the problem disappeared.
I forgot to mention I am running completely stock rom and unrooted (for the time being) and there is just an option under sd card & phone storage setting to format external sd card
After erasing the sd card from the phone, the computer recognized it i'm currently copying stuff back and i'm pretty sure it does not affect the recognition
I faced the same problem. I had Swapper2 on my NC, and after I uninstalled it (and cleared the data of Swapper2, just in case) everything went to normal back again.
^ a solution.

[Q] SD Card issues

Here's a quick breakdown. I got a 32gb SD Card (Sandisk) for Christmas. I hadn't been able to get it to work properly with my phone since then, thinking I needed a microsd reader to format it. I finally did so and have had a number of problems with it. For starters, I ended up soft bricking my phone as when i rebooted it showed that there was no safe system enabled in safestrap, and I ended up accidentlly rebooting when I didn't have an OS installed.
I FXZd the phone back and have since then been attempting to get the SD card working. All of the phone's SD and Internal memory are cut and pasted onto my PCs hard drive. Here's what keeps happening.
I attempt to copy the files from the PC to the SD card via plugging in the phone via usb. I get an error that says it cannot read the file from the PC after it attempts to transfer some of the files. I then used the MicroSD reader I have and was able to cut and paste everything over successfully. When I put the SD card in my phone, a bunch of my apps are back, terrific. Some of my key apps are not back, however, and none of the data/settings are there. I had a titanium backup file copied on the SD card along with everything else, and Titanium is finding the apps that have reappeared, but none of the ones that seem to be missing. Trying to get titanium to locate the backup folder results in the program saying theres is no backup in the folder (again despite the files being in the backup folder).
Here's wehre I really start to get agitated. Once I plug the phone into the computer with teh SD card in the phone everything works great. As soon as I uplug the phone, I get a message saying the SD card is corrupt and needs to be formatted. WHen I plug the phone back in, there are only 4 folders and a handful of files on the SD card, even though there was just 16+gigs of information on there, and now there's almost nothing. I have then reformatted the card and repeated this process several times, to the same result. The SD card seems to work fine with a portion of the data until i plug the phone into the PC, at which point the SD card tells me its corrupt again.
I have no idea why this is consistently happening, but I'm extremely frustrated that I've essentially lost most of my important data when all I wanted to do was plug in a new SD card. Any help will be greatly appreciated, I have no idea what to do from here. Thanks in advance if anyone has any advice.
Edit: the 4 file folders that remain are .android_secure, LOST.DIR, Music, and Safestrap.
As I recall, Lost.dir is what it sounds like - essentially files that get lost somehow, the entire folder is populated with 1000s of files whose names are only numbers between 1 and 217279. Only about 8gb is being used on the SD card, despite being more than 16gb being used on there before plugging in the phone and going into usb storage mode.
Okay, just to specify as a follow up - I've accepted that I'm probably going to lose all of my application data - whatever, it happens.
Regardless, I could still use a little help - essentially, every time I plug my phone into a computer, everything works fine, then when I unplug the phone (pushing the button to turn off usb mass storage), my it tells me I have a damaged Sd card and recommends I format it.
Thus far i reset the phone and its fine. Any advice on how to avoid this repeated error other than that? I'm running CM10.1 if it matters, and have heard there are some SD issues with it maybe? but haven't been able to turn up any answers on google.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any advice.
I also have a 32GB SanDisk card that intermittently gives me the "damaged" error message. It's very inconsistent, but a reboot or two always fixes it. This happens on stock ICS or CM 10.1. Wish I had an answer for both of us.

[Q] is my SD card really dead?

Hi guys, I have a 64GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSD class 10 card. I use it on my Samsung Galaxy s3. Couple of days ago I went to my friend and ask him to give me some movies. He was sending it via data cable but we got frustrated and we had to go somewhere so in the middle of transferring data he unplugged the cable and now my SDcard isn't working anymore. I mean can it be damaged just because we unplugged it in the middle of transferring? I've done it so many times before but it wasn't really a problem. Anyway I'll try to explain what I did with my card since then and what was it's response.
1. The data in the card is intact, I've backed it up as well and when I put my card into my phone it works perfectly. (btw the card was in FAT32 format)
2. I can copy stuff into my card but when I put into my phone it wouldn't show and when I put it back on card reader again the file disappears.
3. I can delete stuff from my card then I take it out and put it back again and the file that I've just deleted comes back.
4. I've tried formatting it but it would give me an error.
5. I've used Easeus partition manager but it would give me an error as well.
6. Then I've used the software I've used when I first formatted the card to FAT32. Guiformat. It would format my card normally but when I go into my card all the files are there.
7. I've tried using commands like "chkdsk d:/r or chkdsk d:/f etc but after like 44% it would say certain files are invalid and can't continue the do the checkdisk command (the file it shows was the files I tried to get from my friend)
8. I've tried so many other stuffs but none of them seems to able to format my card.
now my question to you guys is my card really dead? can it be dead just for interrupting file transfer? is there any way to get my card back to normal? anyway I can format my card? I'd really appreciate it if any of you guys can help. Thanks
