How To Upgrade LG GT540 running Mur4ik's Gingerbread 2.3.3 Without Loosing Data/Settings/Apps
Using Recovery Method: You need to extract the zip. Then install the extracted zip file from the SD card in recovery mode. (Full credits go to fishears for this method)
Using Fastboot Method: Use the "fastboot flash system system.img" command (without the "). You can do a backup afterwards in recovery mode.
You can extract it with root explorer on your phone. However, if you encounter system errors then, try using suggested backup apps mentioned below.
How To Backup Your LG GT540 running Mur4ik's Gingerbread 2.3.3
For those who prefer to do a clean wipe of their systems first before upgrading (in case of errors) fdespotovski & mircea89fzr have suggested using Titanium & MyBackup (rooted) apps. After upgrade, reinstall your chosen app & run restore to restore all previously backed up data/apps/settings
Battery Issues Fix

For all those having battery issues, I have been following all the comments & tips about it on this forum & I have been doing some experimenting over the last few months. And finally I have a working solution which has been working for me (see screenshot of my phone), it's been working now for 53hrs now & still at 45%. And I have been using the wireless at btw 4-6hrs per day & some long calls.
Here's what to do:
1. Drain your battery totally, put it on & off until it's totally drained (screen refuses to come on)

2. Charge it over night (a good 4-6 hours). It might also be good to unplug and re-plug a couple of times if it reaches 100% prematurely.
3. Once the specified time has elapsed, without unplugging the phone from charge, go into (clockwork) recovery (from your reboot screen), go to advanced and, wipe your battery stats, then reboot. Once you click reboot, unplug your phone. And that's it!

Things to note: you must have one of the newer versions(versions 3+) of clockwork to go into recovery from full charge. I hope this is helpful & compliments Mur4ik great work & Joost's wonderful thread :)
@Quarx is there any easier way of making a cm 2.3 rom for the gt540 i did read somewere that you copy some lib files and the hw folder to a custom rom and compile it and it should work?

I'm confused, so has development started on 2.3 for GT540 or is this whole thing a load of cr*p? Mr. Quarx, can we get an official statement, please?

Yep,some word from Quarx will be good.

i dont think Quarx has anything to do with the 2.3 build corrent me if im wrong Quarx.

Yes i know he have nothing to do with the one that is linked.I wanna know if he have something in mind, couse i went to 4PDA,but dont know Russian, and google translate sux.

I'm sorry for don't checking my sources and starting confusion.
Joost

as far as i no a user called CHER is making a CM7 port for use but if not i am currently reading up on building a rom so if i learn a quick way to make a working rom i will build one and see how it goes

ARE WELCOMED!!!
Hello, as anybody has posted this METHOD provided by Anton_ch from 4PDA im posting it here in Android Development site.
The original post in XDA is in general site here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962911
The original post in 4PDA is here: http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=228162
Description of the method manual modification:
If interested in the way of modification, it is described on the link -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14047481&postcount=14
in brief:
The modification is to edit the kernel (changing only the 3 lines in init.rc located in boot.img, responsible for mounting the partition / system and / data) transfer of system files in the data section, and preserve the image of the resulting system.
As you know system partition is bigger than data, custom firmwares is small enough to move it to userdata partition so we can get 245 mb for userdata!
NOTE: With this method you can't install .ZIP from recovery so you need to install what is inside the .ZIP by following this TUTORIAL:
[How-to] Set permissions to files using Root Explorer
Or if they are many files to copy then use adb tool better:
[How-to] Use ADB tools
Finished firmware:
So, here is a list of modifications in the form of firmware images for recovery through recovery:

FIX FOR 2.1 20E FINAL: FC'S IN SOME GAMES AND APPS
*First you need to make room for the fix..
- Open RootExplorer and go to /system/sounds | press button r/w (r/w | r/o)
- remove all the files EXCEPT PowerOn.mp3
*Now you ready for the fix
- Download com.google.android.maps.jar
- copy it to /sdcard
- In RootExplorer, find the file, copy it and paste it in /system/framework
- change permissions to rw-r--r--
- Reboot or Shutdown/start phone again
In some firmware I cleaned up a little system, removing the "on your taste" some applications. They are not critical for the system - this is done primarily in order to fit the system into the data section.
I'll give it a try, when you have Swiftdroid 1.9 ready. You are going to modify that version, too, aren't you?
Thanks a lot!

Hi.. I just want to share some of my experience using this mod.
When I install zip file from recovery (for example) zdunex's honeycomb_addon which contains boot animation n font with this v1.8 data2system, there's nothing happen. I realize that I need to alter the zip file, but don't know what to alter. LOL. Then Mr Mur4ik v1.9 came out, and honeycomb_addon works perfectly.
Maybe some1 has any ideas bout what to do with that zip file so it can work property in this mod.

I don't think u can change boot animation nor font with theme chooser.
For v1.9 it's really great. Need to do some modification first though. Uninstall swapper, qq player, autostart. Apply swap using adb command, set auto killer to moderate. N it works good.

For v1.9 it's really great. Need to do some modification first though. Uninstall swapper, qq player, autostart. Apply swap using adb command, set auto killer to moderate. N it works good.

How about the camera lag that's been reported in other ics roms?
Okay, it seems installing was fine, but once I tried rebooting it won't boot back up, something is not configuring right. Im taking down the download link till it is fixed, sorry for those who have downloaded and tried it already. Will post another link shortly.
As for the camera lag, I am not sure. I haven't notice it but I haven't used my camera much recently.
And for GPS, no GPS yet. I believe there is a kernel out there that has it working, but this is all stock just put into one file.
Ok, ROM is functioning properly now and is even better with the newest kernel, also added a few more apps.
DLing now...excited!

Full wipe and flash again
1+ the bootloop, gave it 30+ mins to boot to setup but never did. I also tried to reflash, but i got the bootloop again. I had wiped and formatted prior to flashing as well.
Getting a device not compatible with this item error on a few apps that worked on other Ics roms like Facebook, Google+, and Google music etc
flashed
I wiped data/system and cache and reflashed and it booted ok.
Seems sluggish though and my system rom space on Titanium shows full.

ROM is amazingly fast! Only thing is flash player won't download market says incompatible with this device.

For those stuck in a boot loop, please download again. The first upload had a bug and the new download is corrected and works.
This is a stock from and kernel with the few mods added above in the OP. I won't be editing the ROM itself so I apologize ahead that any issues some might have won't be fixed here
And for it being a bit sluggish, all ICS Rome I've tried and had live wallpaper running was sluggish. Use the Zeam launcher and change the background to an image and you are good to go. I've had no problems whatsoever with this from so far.
I too get device not compatible on some apps but those apps might not be compatible with ICS?

[DEV ROM]Debug version ICS for P990 leak + Fixed Rebuilds[10/10/12]

This is a leaked ( Anonymous source) debug version of ICS for p990, it is outdated ( 24-04-2012) so there are some bugs. It is only for testing propose and for the devs to paly with it. I don´t have this phone more, i did the testing on my brother´s O2x, so i can´t make more things for this ROM.
Be careful, this is only for DEVs and users who want to try it. I am not responsible of any damage on your phone.
Please keep this thread clean for devs, for off-topic and users discussion go to the thread created HERE for you.

I did _not_ remove the engineer mode red thing as I think the red flashing thing is useful to see what processes are causing slowdowns and most importantly:
THIS IS STILL A DEV ROM!

But kernel is 2.6.*, so not fully ICS
Important is last number not 2/3.
hope devs can do something with this.
Now I'm pretty sure that ics done long enough, LG wants us to buy new phones, ics can make us happy with p990 long enough, thus my desision is that current is my last LG phone.

Hope you get something to make sd work, it is the inly big bug.
I good point to start is to use the system.img from su660.

Im thinking, if you can extract this file and use the bootloader & kernel to port the latest SU660 V30C. This might be possible.

I guess we need to search LG website once again for v28 version of Tom for p990, maybe searching for v30 was our mistake. And where are system dump which you extracted after su660 leak? Thanks
