this is great thank you rothnic!

Very nice! With community support i have great hopes for the Adam!
-Greg

Dang! Now I'm even more excited to get my hands on my Adam. (Shipping on the 29th). I appreciate all your effort from when I had my gtablet. Now I can give you (and roe / others) props for fixing my Adam up the way it was supposed to be...

Really hope this works, can anyone test it? My Adam doesn't ship until the 29th

tested.... not working.

I'll take another try at packaging the boot.img. When you say "not working," I could really use some more feedback on it.
Does it flash without errors?
Where does it hang in boot?
Did you wipe cache?
For anyone wanting to install this, just don't add the modfied boot.img. Use the original one.

I don't think I've had the chance to thank you here or back on NIH, but thank you so much for your work so far!

I tried it and my adam will not boot after flashing.

Some people in the AdaN-#.#-BETA thread have replaced the modified boot.img with the original boot.img and that flash is working... Reports are mixed, but it sounds like you can at least get the stock Google Apps working with the flash but being rooted is hit or miss.

I did this and it flashed, and strangely I appear to have root...

Titanium Backup started working after downloading busybox inside the app. Now I can backup and restore apps with settings - main reason to root Adam for me right now.

So you've gotten it working and rooted? Do you have superuser installed?

I'm pretty sure superuser is a pre-requisite for Titanium Backup to work. Since it reads/writes /system.

I know, I was just kinda double-checking. He's the first person I've seen that has said they've rooted successfully. Almost skeptical haha.

Lol, makes sense. Maybe more people on notioninkhacks.com have had success rooting. They might be more active in this department (currently at least), since the device isn't wide spread yet.

Technically you have root out of the box. You only lack the ability to easily mount /system with "adb remount," and you lack Superuser.apk.
In my thread on notioninkhacks.com, in the apps section, in the Gapps post, I show how you can mount system read/write out of the box. I'm working on a boot.img, but it is hard to get access to someone willing to work with me on IRC. I'll be on tonight, so would appreciate some time from some testers.

If I had one I'd be there. Until then, good luck.

Updated, gapps shouldn't force close anymore.

Additional gapps mod - posting it here
(because I don't want to crowd the forum - plus I probably won't work on it past this alpha 1):
Post: http://notioninkhacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=345&start=53
Basically it's rothnic's stuff, plus some of the other things I added to my GAdam port (and just re-ported it back to the Adam). Adhoc, busybox, all the other goodies we're used to on the GTAB.

Consolidated work into a single basic essentials update.zip. Check link in the OP.

So, we have two reasons we haven't gotten this out yet:
1) We're pretty burned out at the moment,
2) And three of us now have full semesters of classes to deal with too. We've been focusing on other things.
I hope to get this out this weekend at the latest. But don't quote me on that. Even though it's printed in text right here.
I will update this thread when I have more information.
See you soon.

Because it involves work compiling, packaging and testing it so that it "just works". Behind the words "just works" lies a complex set of processes. Just hold tight, people have lives outside this place
They should take the time, better a good running root, as a ok running root with 1000 of questions afterwards.
Take you time, university is more important, and when its done, its done. I also appreciate your work and hope for a release soon.

Backup everything
Hi
I assume the unrEVOked will install a new ROM on the phone, clearing all the data stored on it. So we have to make backup from the phone before rooting it (Is it true?)
So I tried to make the full backup. The best solutions available were the:
1. The Titanium Backup. It needs the BusyBox to be installed. I tried to install BusyBox on my wildfire which was already soft-rooted using MartinEve great work, but it made errors creating a folder under /system/xbin and failed. So Titanium Backup is not a solution now (Again, Is it true?)
2. The Nandroid Backup which is also a perfect tool, but I think it will not work again with the soft-root and needs the unrEVOked root ROM to be installed. (Is it true?)
Finally I have no idea to backup all the phone except simple tools like ASTRO file manager which makes a backup of all applications, etc.
Is there any better idea?
All the best
No idea what the best backup way is.
But unrevoked will not release a ROM.. they are just releasing a.. ehm dont know how to put it... a something that makes it possible to flash other ROMs to your phone

Hi,
No, the unrEVOked root will simply flash a custom recovery to your phone -- the main partition remains in-tact. That said, you might still want to do a backup using a 3rd party market app if you feel paranoid.
Thanks Martin.

New leak 2.3.15 DEODEXED zip

Found the zip file for the new leak. Didn't see posted here other than by using the blackhat app.
Haven't tried it, so use it at your own risk. I'm not liable for any damage to your phone or you
http://www.mediafire.com/file/drixq6ry6ja83oq/DX-2315-Deodexed.zip
Instructions:
Bootstrap Recovery, Mount, Mount System, Apply Update.zip
I don't know how to do the first 3, so if anyone could elaborate for those noobs like me would be awesome
You can follow the original thread on another forum

You can find the Droid X bootstrap app in the market. Just download it and run, then select boot into recovery, scroll down to Mount & Storage, mount system, apply zip. This is all assuming your already rooted.

Rom manager doesn't work on my droid for some reason. It reboots the phone but nothing else. My phone is rooted. I don't know if I should buy this and it doesn't work
But thank you for explaining what to do very helpful
Rom Manager and the Bootstrap tool are two seperate utilities. Search under koush to find it if your having trouble. You don't need rom manager in order to install roms.

Hey
I downloaded it. I hit bootstrap recovery and then the second link. It rebooted and got to the "green screen". I went to back up and restore and hit it. Now my screen is black. Did I messed up my phone, is it normal and takes a while, or can I just pull out the battery and start fresh??
EDIT: Forget it got it, it was empty, I just hit the power button and it went back to normal....
Actually I'm supposed to hit the camera button not the home button, I just saw that :/

You are definitely NOT breaking any rules.
The leak is just that, a leak of a Verizon test ROM, or perhaps Moto, but leaked software nonetheless.
It is not anyones original work other that Google, Verizon, Moto.
If it was a ROM Developers personally modded tweaked themed built ROM, then it would be inappropriate.
I feel that leaks should always be given to the community for free if someone gets ahold of one, its better for the community.
Anyways...I have installed and works fine...no significant changes from. 13 I have seen.
Cheers!

The market speed on this leak SUCKS. If you're happy with what you have, stay there. You gain absolutely NOTHING from updating to this.
If you want, I can make you a build.prop that says your running 2.3.15 and it'd be the same thing. You'd never notice.

I had a similar issuing going from the first leak to the second. What I did is simply restored the original market that I had backed up via Titanium backup. I suspect just clearing the cache and resetting defaults will have the same result.

No, I tried everything. Clearing cache/data did nothing. I did a checkin, a *228, and replaced build.props, everything. Only thing i didnt do was restoring a market from Titanium. Glad it worked for you, but I really dont notice a difference or see any need whatsoever to make this "upgrade".
Look at the thread on MyDroidWorld.com about it lol It seems more like a bug reporting thread than a "thanks for the good work" thread.
Thanks venc.

Problem with Hashcode's tweaked D3 Bootstrap

I got a new phone in yesterday and after starting up, I immediately rooted and installed Hashcode's tweaked version of Koush's Bootstrap Recovery. I did a Nandroid backup and everything went smoothly. However, I went on to flash Dark Droid and everything worked great, but after clicking "Bootstrap Recovery" after flashing (as I read that one should after flashing a new ROM), I received the following error:
Failure
/data/data/com.hashcode.droid3.bootstrap/files/surunner.sh
[Permission denied]
Any idea as to what's going on here? Thanks in advance.

I'm not very familiar with how Busybox works or how to "check" it. Could you teach me?
Edit: So I know there is some version of Busybox installed on my phone (doesn't psouza's one-click root automatically install it?), but I went ahead and donwloaded the Busybox installer from the Market and installed the latest version. Still not working. I even removed permission from SU in order to regain permission but that also didn't work.
Bump...still can't figure it out. Thank you again in advance.
Hello Lyxdeslic,
Have you tried Koush's stock Droid 3 Bootstrap? I'm curious if his apk would also have the same error.
I've seen a total of 2 users describe the issues that you're seeing. And 1 case was fixed, but never was explained how to me, the other issue was never resolved.
The 1st reply has it correct. The issue is that the Bootstrap "thinks" it has SU permissions, but it doesn't. And I'm 100% sure it has to do with the upgrade of Superuser.apk tho for 99% of users, all of it works seemlessly.
I apologize for not being able to provide much help :/

My friend, no need to apologize at all. I appreciate the response, as I was considering PMing you but I didn't want to be a bother considering you probably get tons of PMs a day.
However, I uninstalled your tweaked Bootstrap this morning (also deleted data prior) and reinstalled it, and permissions were re-granted and it works now. I just realized that this did indeed happen after SU binaries were updated. All seems to be working well now.
One last quick question; after re-installing, if I boot into Recovery mode...will your Bootstrap still recognize and find the Nandroid backup on my SD card, which was also created with your Bootstrap during the first installation? I don't have my phone on me at the moment and I forgot to test.
Thanks again for the support. Kudos to you.

It let to enter in the recovery, and is enough for me.
Ok, right...but why would you want to enter recovery in case of a bootloop when you can't flash the ROM you want to to restore your system? I mean yea Hashcode did create the MotoBlur ROM compatible with Safestrap only but still. Both options (safestrap and bootstrap) are needed, in my opinion.

I think that trying yourself is better than theorize...
They are two different sw created for different purposes, but those purposes are overlapping on the part that counts: booting in to recovery.

Correct. They both get you into recovery...but he wants to flash a ROM other than CM or stock. Which Safestrap has no use for. He needs a bootstrap, no ifs ands or buts. Safestrap is of no use to him.

[Q] Can't download files on this site

I heard something recently about fileshare sites being shut down...is that what I'm experiencing. Tried to download files from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359068 and none of the links work. Actually a couple did but said I could only download a file I uploaded myself. I see a KJ4 link. Have you tried the KJ5 thread? It's the newest one for our 7310.
Hi nirogu325, thanks for replying. This is what I am trying to do:
-Enable adhoc connection so I can use my windows mobile phone as a hotspot for my tabl, and
-Enable USB charging for my tab in my car and elsewhere, not just wall jack.
Based on what I've read, I need busybox (Titanium back up says it's installed but when I downloaded an app called wifiadhocenabler, it says it is not installed. Installing it from the market says I need Nand Unlock and this is where I'm stuck at the moment. Do you know how to perform this on the P7310? Or an easier way to meet the objectives above?
Thanks again

I assume you're on a stock firmware. If I were you, I'd flash this specific version which is already rooted and has busybox as you can read in the OP. Also, flash the v2d version of the motley kernel and go here for the USB charging script and instructions on enabling. I know that last link is for the 10.1, but it is the one motley linked to in the v2b version changelog in his kernel thread.
After my soft brick yesterday, I used Odin to "install" the version you attached in your General Guide post P310XARKJ5_P7310UEKJ5_HOME.tar.md5). That's the one, right?
Anyway, the good news is, I decided to install BusyBox without doing the Nand Unlock (maybe it was already done?), and it worked! The wifiadhocenabler app works now and I have a connection to my wm phone! Yay! Before trying the app (for the sake of onlookers) I tried the other method with the wpa_supplicant, such as the one here: http://androidtablethacks.com/android-tablet-hacks/how-to-enable-adhoc-wifi-on-android-tablets/ and it did not work for me. The app did!
So now, I'll try the kernel you posted above and then the USB charging.
I'm going to look over your general guide to see if I can figure out how to flash. I'm guessing it's the same or similar to when I recovered my tab in Odin...?

Before trying the app (for the sake of onlookers) I tried the other method with the wpa_supplicant, such as the one here: http://androidtablethacks.com/android-tablet-hacks/how-to-enable-adhoc-wifi-on-android-tablets/ and it did not work for me. The app did!
So now, I'll try the kernel you posted above and then the USB charging.
I'm going to look over your general guide to see if I can figure out how to flash. I'm guessing it's the same or similar to when I recovered my tab in Odin...?

If you mean flashing a CWM package as the motley kernel, a file goes in the SDcard, you access the CWM Recovery and flash. That's a generic way BUT depending on what you will flash you may have to wipe. That's why I avoided altogether putting generic instructions regarding CWM packages in my guide (instructions may vary between ROM and kernels). Read your flashable package's thread carefully.
kind of like rooting? Yes, do I have to wipe to flash the motley kernel? I'm not seeing the flashable packages thread, can you point me to it?

No, lol. If you want to flash the motley kernel just follow that thread's instructions. I gave you the motley kernel thread link in a previous post. For kernels, no wipe is necessary, for ROMs, yes.
Ok, thank you. lol

You're welcome. Some people have the tendency NOT to wipe while flashing ROMs...yet complain later on the road. Always wipe when it comes to ROMs if you want to avoid issues. The only bugs you will experience are the ones that come with the ROM already. Better safe than sorry.
Ah, that leads me to wonder...When my tab was soft bricked and I used Odin3 and inserted the KJ5 file into the PDA section, and so on (I think that was flashing), was I supposed to do a wipe before I did that? If so, would it be better if I started from scratch again? ...hoping not, but better now than latter I'm thinking.

No. ODIN clears everything (including kernels, ROMs and CWM Recoveries). Everything back to stock. I was just referring to flashing other custom ROMs (non-ODIN, i.e. CWM flashable) procedures. Stick to the thread instructions in your chosen ROM and you'll be fine. It's just that some don't follow instructions and due to that, they may experience weird bugs.
That's good news, and strange, because after I used Oden3 (in the way I previously described), all my apps and files were still in tact. Does it just affect the system and not the file memory?
P.S. Hey! I'm no longer a noob! lol I just noticed I am now a "Junior Member".
P.S.S. I'm now running my tablet off my wm hotspot while charging it on my pc! woohoo

That is because you didn't check F.Reset Time on the left side of ODIN before flashing. It is advisable to make sure it is checked. Thanks, I'm gonna put that little but important detail in my guide (dunno how I missed that one ). I advise using Titanium Backup (for apps backup) and then ODIN. You might be fine as you are, but if you ever experience something weird then you know.

I'm glad you made it!
Thanks for your support. If I ever have some extra change and feel like making a donation, I'll keep you in mind! Hey, where's your donation link anyway? Better get one!

My tablet is definitely a little laggy now, but that could be the 3.2 HC. Since I did not check that off, does it mean that it did not install on a clean wipe? I'm wondering if I should just do it while I remember the path to how I got where I'm at now. I doubt I'll remember everything down the road.
I have been making nandroid backups as well as titanium app backups.

As for donations, nah it's ok, I am no developer. As for the suggestion, it was just that, a suggestion for next time. Keep that in mind. It will become a habit down the road.

nirogu325,
I'm back to do my clean wipe. I performed the wipe/data reset in nandroid and now it's saying there is an update from KJ5 to LA3. Do you still think the custom kj5 is better than the stock LA3? I'm wondering if I should just install the update, root, install the motley kernel and go from there...?
Hope you're well! I still think you should add a donate link...you don't have to be a developer, your assistance/guidance is equally helpful to the community.
While I'm waiting, I flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375112 and then I noticed I have the old CMR so I downloaded your updated package: GTab89Files and I cannot paste a single file from that folder onto my tab. I can paste files from other folders, but this one I copy and when I go to paste the paste option is not enabled; if I drag I get a little red circle with a line through it. Any ideas as to why it's rejecting?

droid rooted with no preinstalled apps

hell yes. thank you,
are you currently running any of these?
will these wipe out everything on my phone so need to back it all up right?
do i use safestrap to install this? and if so what is the link and directions for
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806145 he doesnt say how to install it or what to use to install it.
and is it as smooth and everything works just with out all the unnecessary crap from verizon on there
I'm not currently running either of these, but I did use this one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806145&highlight=deodexed) for a few weeks without any problems. Then I tried to switch to Eclipse and messed up, so I had to fastboot back to original stock. Haven't found a rom that I'm really excited to try so I'm sticking with stock (rooted, of course). My next attempt will probably be the JB build that hashcode is working on. Once It becomes more stable, anyways.
Yes, Use Safestrap to install, it will also allow you to back up your current system. It's pretty easy to do, just follow the directions on the post when you download the rom.
Worst case scenario, you'll have to do what I did and fastboot back to stock, but most of the time the phone will be recoverable, so have fun!

I had the same problem. Is the phone currently rooted? If not, safestrap needs root. There is a walkthrough to show you how. In my case the issue was that busybox didn't install correctly. I got JRumy's Busybox Installer from the play store and used it. Worked like a charm.

I'd make sure that root worked properly, and re-install busybox. If that doesn't work, take a look here and see if there is anything that could be of help. At worst, contact Hashcode (the developer)
