[Q] account not configured to sync - then crashes - Nook Color General

Newly rooted NC. When I select gmail I get "This account is not configured to sync automatically. Pres Menu> Refresh to sync mail once. Or press Home and touch Settings > Accounts% Sync to configure....:"
When I refresh it does nothing.
When I press Home Settings there is no Accounts Sync
When I press the other menu option (to the right of the center arrow)and select accounts I see the account - when I press menu again to see account setup it just crashes and reboots.
Any ideas?

Did you use the youtube hack to add your google account? I know that process was very finicky for me. I'm pretty sure the reason you have to use youtube to add the account is the normal account management stuff doesn't fully work (which is probably why it crashes for you). I borked it all up the first time I tried it, ended up unrooting and starting over carefully following the nookdevs dot com tutorial for rooting. 2nd time worked like a charm although I'm not sure what I did differently.

Just tried to re-root after the 8x thing, got stuck in boot loops. Tried the fix for that and I seem to have bricked it, back to BN if I cant find a fix

Good Luck with the store...
I'm not familiar with exactly how your nook is acting but it's very hard to "brick" your NC. If you have no luck at the store be sure to browse around this forum more.... most likely the answers you need are already here

What is the Youtube hack to add a google account? I am having similar issues with gmail. It's not auto syncing at all and when I manually sync, it crashes. Thank you.

[Q] Android Marketplace not loading

Hey all,
I've been dabbling with the XAndroid releases here and have got the XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.25.07.10 working on my HTC TD2.
However, I'm trying to access the Marketplace and everytime I tap to load it, a white screen comes up for a couple of seconds and then disappears again, showing the desktop (or apps menu) and there's no indication of anything having loaded or working.
I can do this repeatedly without having to reset my HTC; same thing happens each time. There is no error message.
Anyone have any idea or tips or could I be missing the actual Marketplace app? Or should I use a different ext2?
Thanks all.
I upgraded my system with the latest build yesterday (setup is here), and I had the same problem.
I also found out that my Google Account had been removed from the sync setup.
However, after I rebooted I did get a Google Account prompt when starting Marketplace, and after entering my login information it launched without a problem.
Maybe you could also try adding your Google account to the phone?
My mistake,
It's not working for me either after all. I replaced the system.ext with the one from 2.2 beta 2 and then it worked.
I've got the same problem as you:a white screen shows for a few seconds, and then the home screen shows.
Also, as I stated before, my google mail sync account has been removed, and I can't seem to re-add it. When I go to Gmail I get a message that the account has not been configured for auto-sync. Menu > Refresh doesn't do anything. Menu > Accounts shows "Gmail, 0 accounts". The Add Account button displays a black screen with "Add an account" at the top.

Yes, this seems to fix it.
Thanks tommy1994.
Now working perfectly. (Just for others, I decided to update to the latest release too.)

[Q] remove gmail account

How do I remove a gmail account?
I'd be interested in this to. I rooted an NC using my gmail account...but now I'd like to remove that one and just use a different one.
I have successfully added that other gmail, so how do I remove the original?
Thanks!
Go into the settings/accounts menu in Gmail. Create another account (it can even be a duplicate of this account if you like). Once this is done a long press down on the other account will give you the option to remove it.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

Didn't work for me. I created another account, so now 2 are listed. Tapping the menu button at the bottom, I get a 2 rows of 3 options (Refresh, Compose, Accounts, View labels, Search, Settings).
I tap "Accounts" and the screen displays the 2 accounts that are now on the NC, with an option to "Add account" down at the bottom. If I press the Menu button here, that bottom tab changes to "Account Settings" but when I press that, the NC appears to do a soft reset.
Am I missing something? Or should I restore and root again?
Thanks!
I get the same thing here.
I have two GMail accounts listed and cannot remove either.
If I press and hold on an account on the "Add Accounts" page, nothing happens. Actually, no matter how long I "hold", when I release, I end up going to the inbox for the selected account.
Further, just like madman390, if I press the Menu button and bring up the bar that only has "Account Settings", if I select "Account Settings", my NC does a reboot of sorts (it doesn't crash back to the home screen and it doesn't go all the way back to a power-up screen, it goes to the "Nook Color" animation part of start-up).
I have the same issues as everyone here. I am giving the nook as a gift to someone else and i need to remove the accounts i used to get the market working. Could someone figure this out? Thx

Ok so I did a little messing around in the /data/ folder and I found the way to do it. You should leave one Gmail account at the end so you don't screw up the market. What you do is go into /data/system/ and edit accounts.db with an editor of your choice. You can even do it straight on the device through root explorer and the sqlite editor it requires. Open the file and delete the accounts you want to delete and then close it. I did a reboot after and the accounts disappeared from Gmail and YouTube and Gtalk. Gtalk now won't launch if you deleted the main account so you need to go into youtube, sign in again, then re-add the account in gmail and possibly Gtalk if it asks again. I had to do that a couple of times to get it to work, but now everything works. I also updated to the new market after thanks to another post

Well, I tried to follow your suggestion and it screwed up my NC where it would loop on the NOOK COLOR boot screen (Autonooter'd). I had to do the 8 reboots to get back to a useable state.

Thats interesting it worked for me without any trouble. The only problem that resulted that I see now is that it did remove all accounts and the everything worked again, but the market now refuses to download anything. I'm sorry it messed your nook up, maybe it only works if you used an older version of autonooter. Does anyone know how to make the market start downloads instead of be eternally stuck on "Starting download"? It is possible that you might need to look around your /data/ folder for xml files and more databases and change everything to the email you would like to use as a main email or maybe you just edited your db file incorrectly.
I always wonder about these posts, and if they are the people selling rooted nooks on ebay, for a profit. There seems to be more and more people selling them on there these days.
any update on this? I'd like to backup a ROM and replicate my setup, do a basic root to a friends nook, then restore with my backup, then setup his gmail. Kinda strange we are bound to the whole thing by an email address..
If not.. then people making ROMs could maybe make like: 1.1FW/1.1OC/Zeam/Gaaps/ROM manager/Astro/Titanium/NC Tools/XDA. you know.. all the stuff we are going to do anyway.ROMs
ops. double post.
No Solution
Has anyone found a solution to this...an easy one?

Issue with Autonooter

I seem to be having some trouble with autonooter, and have tried it 4 times with no result.
Here is what happens:
13 Exit Youtube and Launch Gmail from "Extras".
14 Sync your Gmail Account and Exit. (If it fails to sync that is fine.)
Here, I go to sync my gmail account, and there is no account even there to sync.
So I try just inputting the google account manually, and I can get to the market and start a download but it never actually starts
I am not sure what is happening. I follow the directions to the letter and get the youtube set up, but when I go there, there is no account. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
you can try to download anther autonooter this is the one I used 1.0.1
go to nookdevs.com download auto nooter 2.12.25 file 25 Dec 2010
this helped me when I was unable set nookcolor tools app

You don't mess with the accounts, you login to youtube, exit from youtube, launch GMail and you either wait or tell it to sync. You don't go poking into accounts. The instructions in the wiki work flawlessly.
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Rooting
After I log into my youtube channel with my gmail address, I go into gmail and get that sync error. I just leave it alone and open up the market and get that working. Usually after I download a couple of previously downloaded Apps I will get a notification that I have mail. I don't understand what the sync issue is but it always seems to start working on its own.
Alright. Ill give it another go and not touch the sync screen and let you guys know. I appreciate the help!
Edit: actually the whole reason i messed with the accounts in gmail was because when i go to the marketplace it tells me i must sign in. Does this info help explain anything?

Yea that was it, looks like I just needed the more detailed instructions. The one on xda-devs didn't mention to put *****@gmail.com. I was just putting my account name, that was the issue.
Thank you for your help All is working well now.

[Q] Failed to add google account

I was happy with the NF, and added all the gApps after installing it. It worked fine. However the contact.apk was missing, so I reinstalled NF using CWR.
After that the contacts was back but since then I can't add google account after gApps are added. The "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" error showed up every time.
I tried to reinstall NF, back to stock 1.0.1 and NF again, changing the time, delete settings.db, or even the YouTube trick. All of them don't work.
Any suggestions to solve it?
*update*: Youtube trick worked:
1. Go to youtube.com and sign up for a new account, using the email address you want to add to your phone
2. Open the YouTube application on your Adroid phone, sign out of your account if you're currently signed in (menu button -> sign out)
3. Sign in-menu button-my account, log in with your EMAIL ADDRESS (not your YouTube username)
4. Now You're all done - you can sign out of the account in the YouTube app again if desired. Go to Settings-Accounts and you should see your account in the list.

Market is not working anyway...
Getting the same error after installing Nookie Froyo v0.6.7 to SD, and adding the Gapps (per the nookdevs.com wiki), try to add account/Google results in "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"
I can surf web, use the Facebook and Youtube apps.
Google's Blunder
Search google for can't establish reliable data connection change the options to 'latest' and it looks like this one's on google. I just flashed my firmware for my elocity a7 and got the same error all last night and this morning when trying to sync my google account. Hold fast, daylight will break soon. . .
update:
The YouTube worked when I try to add "@gmail.com" after my username.
However, the Market gives me a "A Server error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen." error message and I can't get in. Contacts and Gmail is now working though.
Im having the same issue.
Picked up my Nook Color yesturday evening, I've booted Honeycomb off the SD card and then used HoneyGApps.v2 to install Market and a bunch of other apps.
However I get the following error when attempting to add my Google Account:
"Cannot Establish a Reliable Data Connection"
Tried a few things like clearing app cache and rebooting but I can get around this issue.
Anyone have any ideas for what I could try? Im connected to a strong wifi connection so its not a connectivity issue, I can browse the net no problem.
Signing into Youtube with your gmail account username/password gets you logged in, but it looks like a Google network server is down now, so still no Market access
It's Google's problem after all?
I used a WHOLE DAY trying to fix it...(censored)
you sure it's Google's server down?

I opened the Youtube app and tried to sign in.
Even though I haven't "setup" a youtube account before... I used my Gmail address I was trying to add to my Nook. Youtube signed me in.
I went back to Settings -> accounts -> Accounts & Sync.. it gave me a black screen that was there for about 20 seconds. Then I got the "add account" screen with my GOOGLE account listed. When I opened it, it had nothing listed. Then, Calendar showed up. As I sat there, Picassa Web Albums, contacts and Gmail later appeared and started synching.
The sync of those items took about 20 minutes. (I did uncheck picassa).
Trying to open Market, I now get "a service error has occured" so I tried...
Code:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Market
Clear Cache then Force Stop -- DO NOT clear data
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Google Services Framework
Clear data then Force Stop
Reboot
It didn't help.
Also, I notice my browser seems a little slow, and while the facebook app runs, it takes a bit to load up... And when I launch the Gmail app, it shows about have the screen worth of mail, but I see the "loading conversations" at the bottom of the screen for about 5 or more seconds
I just turned my Nook on this morning to find that I can now add my Google account and open the Market. (Morning being 7.50am UK Time).
Must have been a glitch or a few reboots required....
@dhumpherson, what issue did you have previously with adding your account? Was it after you click ont he android robot (right at first screen) and attempt to enter your gmail account? That is where i cannot have success. I did enter into gmail before rooting, and i've read that may be an issue and i need to get rid of the data saved from that login, but i haven't located instructions yet for that.
If you had been unable to login at that initial screen but found an answer please let me know what you did. *If i enter an incorrect password the continue interface will tell me this, so it knows i'm entering the correct one when i do, but it just returns me to the login page, after the display blinks.

[Q] What prevents syncing? Anyone else on 10.1 having sync isues?

I'm on a Nook HD+ 32GB and CM 10.1.3. Sync is simply not working. I don't mean calendar or contacts, I mean everything that uses sync. Or, to put it another way, every app/service that registers themselves under the "Accounts" section of the settings. So for example, Firefox sync, Evernote, Vine and, of course, all Google services (including Gmail).
The only things that are syncing correctly are the apps that use their own sync like Aquamail, Plume and Wunderlist. Those are all working fine.
The symptoms: When I, for example, press "sync now" in any of the Google accounts, the little sync circle appears next to the first sync item. It doesn't spin (not sure if this rom the circle is supposed to spin) and it just stays there, forever, till I reboot the tablet. I am getting no error messages.
What I have done: Ok, the initial sync works. When I first set up the account, it syncs. I have since factory reset and re-flashed 4 times trying to fix this. The initial sync works but then it never syncs again. If I remove and re-add accounts, it syncs fine the first time but then it doesn't sync again.
I have tried deleting all data from every sync enabled app. When I do that, it doesn't sync at all, not even once. Only time it syncs, that I have seen, is on the initial account setup.
Help: I need troubleshooting ideas and, better, all the things that might stop syncing from working. The mechanism itself seems to be working as it does an initial sync. Something seems to be stopping it from doing any more syncs though and I have no clue what or how the sync system works. What apps are involved in syncing? Is it Google Framework? Other things?
Thanks!!
Be sure that you don't prevent google apps to see your personal data. Go to Settings -> Security -> Privacy guard to check that

Appreciate the help! I don't use Privacy guard and no apps are enabled, but I do use Open PDroid. I tried deleting all rules for every system app in in Pdroid and then syncing but it still does not work.
Any other ideas? Thanks!
After not getting any traction on fixing this, I started trying the 10.2 nightlies. However, I am running into issues with that and would really rather be back on my 10.1.3 build. So a quick "bump" to this thread.
I am wondering if AFwall is somehow to blame here? Before I flashed 10.2 I uninstalled afwall and Pdroid to see if that would fix anything and it didn't. I have also removed the following items from the rom:
email, news and weather, notepad, exchange services, Google+ and picasa uploader. I should note I have removed email, exchange services, google+ and picasa uploader on my 2 Samsung phones (G4 and Note 2) and my Asus tablet (TF300) as well and not had any issues, but I though I would mention it.
I think those are the only things that make my build different from everyone else.
All right, hope this info helps someone. Instead of reading the new Dan Brown, which has been on my want to to list, I sat in a nipa cabana on Saturday, restored my 10.1 nandroid, and tracked this one down.
The culprit is the Xposed module Gravity Box. Once that was disabled and uninstalled sync worked again.
A couple of weeks ago I gave up on CM 10.1 and put on 10.2 to get past this problem. I didn't have time to do a full rebuild of my environment and only things that Titanium could Hypershell restore was put back. Xposed was one of the many things that was not installed. So I am not sure if this problem persists on 10.2 but at this point I am not going back to 10.2 now that I got this worked out.
Someone can tag this one closed/resolved and I hope this helps someone.
