Anyone else getting the Virgin Mobile Optimus V? - Off-topic

I heard that Virgin Mobile is going to come out with the Optimus V which is going to be priced at $150? Truth?
If so, I may consider it for sure! I really like the series and very good for Android.

I got it on Friday from Target $149.00, activated it and it is great. Great phone a huge upgrade from my Samsung Intercept.

I agree.. Just picked one up yesterday and it blows the intercept out of the water!! What a joke that phone was.. And $100 more? You gotta be joking me Get the LG!

Yeah I just got one from Target. If you don't see one give the DPCI for it because it doesn't show up on the system otherwise.
Very nice and inexpensive. I was thinking about the Intercept before I heard of this because it was $170 at Best Buy. Based on what I read this is the better buy, even for someone like me who NEEDS a physical keyboard. Gotta break out of the comfort zone if you want the bread, eh

I just got mine today. Have the $25 dollar package and love it. Left Cricket's unreliable network where I was using a flashed HTC Eris. Couldn't get 3G no matter what tutorials I followed on this and other forums. I'm really glad I made that change.

I made the switch from an AT&T Captivate. Fed up with paying 130.00+ monthly for bad coverage and a phone that will never see froyo. Porting took less than 2 hours and I have working NAV! I was a little apprehensive about switching to pre-pay, but so far the coverage has been 110% better, and the VM reps are great! I didn't sit on hold even once in the 4 calls I made to them after buying the phone. If you are on the fence about buying this phone, please allow me to nudge you in the right direction!

Just got one at Best Buy last weekend for $129. Great phone. Love the dedicated camera button. Coming from an Evo this things screen is small but the phone is still quick and is the perfect for factor for pocket-ability.

Nexus One: Worth $530?

In your opinions, I have enough money for the N1, but is it worth paying $530 for it? Are you guys who payed for it completely satisfied with your purchase? No remorse?
Thanks.
There are lesser android phones/phones in general that cost more than $530. I am more than satisfied with my phone.
Thats good! I'm leaning on my desk thinking about pushing the "Buy" button, and I think (...Know...) I have my answer.
Worth every penny.
Where do you live? How's T-mobile's 3G saturation where you live? If you definitely want to stay with T-mobile, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd wait.
I'm with AT&T, so I have to pay $530 for the unlocked model. My friend tried their 3G and Edge coverage with TMO, and in San Francisco, it isn't anything specially, AT&T has better here.
wait,
I didnt think that the nexus one could get AT&T 3G...

it only works on EDGE on AT&T ... but as for now t-mobile is a faster network.. HSDPA soon to be HSDPA+ at least here in NYC / LI .. other than that.. this is BY FAR the best phone ive ever even seen... always get comments on it.. and that display is just gorgeous
couple things to assess here from my point of view...
who is your carrier and how is their service in your area? Since you have ATT you will not have 3g, if you will have access to wifi most of the time i would say this balances it out, but N1 on edge seems pointless to me... i would say thats a "dont buy point"
what is your current phone? in my situation, i upgraded from the HTC Excalibur (the Tmobile Dash) so 530 dollars gave me a night and day difference... if you are going from a comparable level phone i would say its not worth full price... unless is one of this icky iphones...
what else can you do with 530 bux? it is a good chunk of money that you can do a number of other things with, so it really is a matter of how bad do you want the phone... for me i worked myself up to buy the thing until i finally cracked and broke the credit card out ...
for me, it was an excellent buy... i went from an old school windows mobile phone to a top of the line android phone so it was literally a night and day difference and I can do so much more with my N1 that i ever dreamed possible... it was worth every penny to me, but will it be for you? I had no idea really what i was buying, i had no experience with android, hell i had to figure out how the OS worked when i got the phone lol
i was real resistant to buy this phone, as i have plenty of things i need to spend 500 on, before the phone.
anyway, last week i got mine, and coming from the moded g1's, even with the awesome mods n such, this phone kills any of them.
its nice to have a phone respond, and do what its told, when clicked.
500$ was worth every mila-second i dont have to wait, ever again.
especially when my ride just left, as i walked out the door, and my
phone has a locked screen, or other random issue, causing me to
panicly push too many buttons, thus freezing the phone more, and
causing a reboot... giving my ride even more time, to get far enough
away, to be assholes and not wanna turn around and pick me up.
see how far that 500$ got me? worth every penny.
Zing.

amen, even when I have like 30 apps running in Modaco's Desire ROM it all works perfectly. My boy who has an iPhone 3GS saw my phone, played around with it and his first words were "Holy F%CK this is fast" I then grabbed the phone and checked ATM and I had 27 tasks running and only 69mb's left of RAM and everything was super responsive....granted he wasn't too impressed when I loaded up the the Cyan ROM (which visually compared to Desire is lacking) but still, he will be buying a Nexus One
and docsparks...you should change ur sig, I just changed mine from G1 to Nexus.
People don't buy this phone for it's superior sound quality, nor excellent coverage 3G/H/etc.
$530 is cheap. Maybe you aren't used to buying unlocked phones, but around the world an unlocked 3GS costs in the region of $750-800, and it's a far, far inferior phone that's nearly a year old. Taken a look at the prices of unlocked Sony Satio, Nokia X6 or N97 lately? They're all pieces of **** with garbage hardware, abso-****ing-lutely terrible software (Symbian!), inferior everything. They're all priced at $640-727 respectively. How about the LG Chocolate BL40? Retails at over $700, and it's a goddamn feature phone.
$530 is nothing.
Look at it this way, the N1 sells for HIGHER than the $530 pricetag on eBay. There's currently no other phone out there with comparable hardware specs.
Buy the thing now, if you decide you don't like it (within the 15 days), you can return it to Google for refund (without the fee). If you decide you don't like it after that, throw it on eBay and sell it for at least what you paid.
...For me, I love my N1.
No wai!
Don't listen to all these guys.
It's totally NOT worth it!
The N1 is terrible.
Get the iPhone. MUCH better device.

What kind of responses were you expecting to find here? lol
it cost me $250 and that's the most i'd personally pay for a phone. My phone is rooted and all that goodness but all in all - the only reason i gave up my G1 is because of the speed. (or lack of). I'm a conservative person but i like having nice things so i bit the bullet and found 1 on Craigslist for $400, then i sold my G1 for $150 = $250 total out of pocket. Love the N1, but would never pay $530 for a phone. That's nearly the price of a 42inch TV you can find nowadays, or a PS3 and a XBOX360, or like 2 1/2 car payments...all for a phone?!?!
To put it in perspective, i paid 700 for N1 to get it in toronto. I only have edge but i still love the phone and think it was worth every penny.
I genuinely have no complaints about the phone.
For me it was worth the $530. I am on deployment right now, so when we pulled into port in Thailand we were offered local SIM cards if we wanted. To be able to pop the card in, buy basically 300 minutes for $7 and be able to talk to my family while I was there was so worth it.
Knowing that when I go back to Japan for the rest of this det I can do the same thing, worth it.
Knowing that I can learn to develop my own apps without having to buy a mac or pay $100 developers fee, worth it.
I have TMo service at home and have been happy with it, in AZ only Verizon offers 3g so I don't miss that. I had an unlocked 1stgen iPhone and edge was fast enough for the browsing that I did so no loss there. Plus when I travel I can still get 3g if they have it. So for me it was completely worth the $530. Now I just have to wait for manufacturers to give us some nice cases.

That's a bingo [movie reference]
It came out to $579 with tax and the best $579 I have ever spent. It's definitely worth every bit of it. I think it is definitely the best phone out. I never buy a phone unless I think it's superior to any other phone on the market. Rooted or Not Rooted you're going to love it. There is absolutely no waiting on anything. The only thing that has to "load" is Google Navigation because it's loading a lot of information. Even then, we're talking 5 seconds at most. I do remember using my G1 and MyTouch and getting in a rush and freezing the phone. Most irritating thing in the world. An example of the N1 speed: When I receive an SMS I pull down the notification and click the message. Before the notification bar has time to return the message has already appeared underneath it.
It mostly depends on what you want. If you like using your phone for more than making calls then I would say go for it. I've had up to 49 apps running at once with zero lag. One thing I can tell you before you get one is to read the link in my signature about getting a Task Killer and DON'T get one
Because I live in Norway, I "had" to pay about $820-830 for it. I would do it again.
It is the best phone I have had or tried.

[Q] Why Captivate and not Vibrant (or other Galaxy S phones)?

So I recently purchased a Captivate, what got me to buy it was how it DID NOT look like an Iphone. The vibrant just looks like an Iphone(although I've been eying it for a while since I live in Canada and Bell offered the one with the front facing camera, is it really that useful?).
I'm just curious on what got you guys to choose the Captivate.
Cause the AT&T nexus one is hard to find for under 500 bucks lol
But honestly the 4 inch screen and cause its the only android handset with a bright future on at&t and i hate iphones with a passion

always nice to hear from people like me who hate 'iphone with passion' good one !!1!! I just pity on the idiots who praise iphone in front of me after seeing my captivate
I could have gone with either T-Mob or AT&T the deciding factor for me was the Amazon deal on the Cappy for a penny. 1 Penny VS 100 dollars. was easy decision.
FAN + high end android phone
Also, it looks the best (the carbon fiber back matches my bike ).
I have to agree with both statements of both the iphone look of the vibrant and the absolute disgust of the iphone itself. I've already converted some ppl to android and completely shamed some iphone 4 owners with the amazing captivate. And when ppl see my phone they know its not an idumb unlike my friend who owns a vibrant. She has the hardest time having vibrant in plain site and ppl asking if its the new iphone.

I upgraded to this from a Samsung Impression. I loved my Impression. I never had any issues with it like others had described. It had the same AMOLED screen technology, and amazing battery life. Any Samsung I've owned, whether it's been a phone or a camera has been great. So they've earned my business. They didn't disappoint me this time either with my Captivate. It's fast, it's light, it does great on battery life (I can go a day and a half without a full charge unlike I could with my Samsung Blackjack) and the screen is bright and vibrant just like I expected.
impression had a amoled screen? didn't know that but anyways well the 16 GB internal storage is one reason the other is that i couldn't switch to T-Mo
im not leaving AT&T, i had an upgrade available and its the first high end android device they offered. plus i was getting tired of how blackberry was so behind with everything.

i was a tmobile subscriber b4! i moved to att because of the att family plan we have and i didnt like the way vibrant looks(esp. at the back). my plan was to get the iphone 4, but the deathgrip issue broke out plus lots of other factors made me pick the cappy. im very happy to pick this over ip4. i wish i waited a bit longer though to get the .01$ captivate.

Ya learn something new everyday.
i was tired of my bb's outdated operation.. was considering an iphone.. but this phone came HIGHLY reccomended from an executive at ATT that i know well... and referred to this phone as the "iphone killer"... love it so far.
My friend had the Vibrant on T-mo and told me, "Yknow, AT&T is getting basically the same phone, it's called the Captivate." My contract came up for renewal and they offered me the phone for $99. I couldn't say no. I like the idea of a phone running an open source operating system that anyone can tinker with. I've never liked Apple and their iOS with all of their restrictions.
I was actually contemplating making the move to T-mobile as they have cheaper plans and the service is about the same as AT&T in my area. Still, after holding both phones, the build quality and the overall look of the phone was much better with the Captivate IMO, so I decided to stick with AT&T for now and picked one up.
I am now waiting on the G2 and whatever the Emerald turns out to be for T-mobile this fall and may make the jump at that point.
I'm actually not enthralled with the overall look of the Captivate, but that's probably because I came from the Pure, and could see how AT&T has been influencing the design of these phones, and not necessarily for the better. I've attached a picture that shows what I mean better. If I removed the branding, you might have a hard time telling which phone is which.
But I did buy a Captivate, but only because I got ~$300 off from AT&T, T-mobile gets horrible reception both where I live and work, and I knew before I bought it that I would be able to undo the vast majority of AT&T's raping of this otherwise amazing phone.
had my Cappy out charging in Starbucks the other day and overheard the two people next to us chatting about it to each other:
"hey, what phone is that over there?"
"looks like the Xperia X10"
had to laugh at myself and told em its a Captivate and its not released here in Canada yet
To all who were tired of the bb.
I just came from a Bold 9000. Blackberry isn't really much outdated it's just really more lenient on business.
Tbh, I miss some things on my bb like keyboard shortcuts, the keyboard in general lol, bbm(reasons not sure why), and the ease of jumping around for me.
The reason why I jumped ship to the captivate is because it's the best android phone for AT&T and that's where I have a family plan :T lol I would have taken Sprint Epic if I could but I'm on AT&T!
^ I find bbm silly. Anyone who has a blackberry says they love it and I ask them why, the answer is always bbm. I say why is that better than text? They always try to come up with a reason. some of them know bbm transfers files. I say I have google talk and a vast array of other Im apps. They always say but bbm is blackberry only as if that's a good thing. I can talk to any one with a computer or iphone or android or whatever on there existing aim our yahoo account and they can only talk to there friends with blackberries, seems snobbish to me. You might say google talk can't send files, but yahoo messenger can.

How Often Do You Get A New Phone?

I got an iPhone 3G in November of 2009 (On contract) and last September I got my SGS (New off of Craigslist). I keep seeing these new and better phones coming out in the near future and I am saying to myself.
"Self, you want one of those phones".
Examples of said phones:
Galaxy S 2
i997 Infuse 4G
Optimus X2
Optimus Black
Anyway, do you get the newest thing out there or do you stick with one phone for a while?
$500-$700 is a lot to spend on a phone every year, but I love the newest gadget
If it works and does what i want then every ten years or so .
jje
for me, it is every time there is something better for my carrier 1700+2100 AWS, which usually there are not many
I usually hold as much as I can, usually it's 2 to 3 years so I can have the contracts promo's and rebates.
My last one was the good ol' HTC Vogue. Even tough HTC wasn't supporting the device since a while, XDA Devs was and I was running latest android built on it.
Since the popularity of the SGS is pretty more than the HTC Vogue, I assume we'll get amazing support from the comunity also! So I don't think I'll change until another year or two!
I must be sick or something. My SGS works great (Stock JL2, no lag fix, no custom kernel, only rooted). But I still have this little thing about wanting the newest and best.
What will the new Galaxy S2 (Or any listed phone in the OP) have that my SGS doesn't? 4.5" screen, faster CPU (By only a small bit), more MP camera, a flash? Do I really need these things?
Maybe it's a disease or something. Why can't I be happy with what I have? Maybe a woman would help? Anyone know one available?
Ian
The phone revolution has finally come to the U.S. so things will have to change...
Before all phones were crappy so it didn't really matter...now every 6 months a phone that was once new will be old news and the new ones will be must haves...
This has been the case in europe for years and so service providers can't force customers into 2 year contracts like here...most contracts are 12 months(and you can upgrade to a new phone practically free in 10mnths) and just to get people into 18 month contracts they have to offer great incentives...hopefully that will become the case here..
But to get to the point..with phones finally getting better you do feel the need to upgrade all the time...don't get carried away...think of it like with a new tv..new ones..bigger ones, faster response time, more color,3d, internet apps, usb ports...they keep adding stuff making you want the latest and the greatest...you don't need it..you want it...but don't need it...
See what your phone has..how you use it and evaluate of it meets your needs...granted now you are using it for a lot more stuff than before...gps, internet searches, facebook updates etc...suit down and think what you use your phone and if it lacks in any department...make a note of all the areas where you would like improvement and then start researching which phone would cover those specified areas..don't get carried away by features that seem cool but once you have them you will not use...(video calling for example..it is a phase..just like it was in europe and it went away fast..not everyone has it here..its not cross platform...ie pc to phone...and it telies on spotty 4g coverage or wifi..). Once you know what you need and find which phone had that...get that phone and stick with it...
I bought the g1 when it came out because I knew I would love android..I was right..after having it for almost two years I found that it was lacking speed due to cpu and lack of memory for installed apps...granted I was using apps2sd to over come its issues but this was a bypass got an issue that was there...i researched and found that the vibrant had exactly what I needed..1ghz cpu and 16gb internal memory for apps and storage...i was right..with nero v5 rom on it and an 8gb card it is amazingly fast and it does EVERYTHING I need...i don't need anything now for a long time...i want the new stuff..i don't need them...now I will wait for a phone that comes with honeycomb and performs well with it...it will be at least 6 to 8 months before I see something worth investigating which will be near my upgrade time so I don't have to spend too much money to get it (i got the vibrant for 99 bucks through amazon wireless with a2yr contact...)
Patience, good research and will power are all key...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
"Wish in one hand, **** in the other. See which one gets filled first."
Lol, wish I had every new one that came out
But I renew my phone once every 2 years.
@Ian/w98seng, nope it doesn't change much with a woman around either!
I have a Nokia 6120 Classic right now from 2007 I think , but I LOVE SGS. Hope to get one as soon as possible with a contract. I didn't know about SGS 2, which is nice
Either when something better comes out or when O2 offer me an upgrade
Pretty much only upgrade when my existing contract expires and I get a discount on a new phone
OK, I'll be patient and wait a couple of yeas before I get another phone. It'll be hard and I'll cry a lot, but I'll be a good boy and wait. (Maybe)
you know you can SELL the phone, and upgrade to another phone....
that's what most people do to keep up with the latest and greatest
sell it meanwhile it stills hot (6 month to a year)
then upgrade to the next phone will not be as painful
it's like leasing a phone
you pay a $100 give or take every 6 mth to get a better phone
My job allows me to change the phone every year and I think its an ideal duration to play around, fiddle and poke around in a phone, especially when my company pays for it But exceptionally, Galaxy S keeps surprising me every now and then keeps me busy. Its like a woman, once you conquer it you will get over with it and get bored of it BUT not yet!! Unlike iPhone 3GS where I was looking to move on after 4-5 months.

Wait until your plan allows you to upgrade at low cost (usually after 18mnths on t-mobile) and go for a phone that had honeycomb and decent hardware to run it...I'm thinking 6-8 months from now there will be enough info on the models that are out to make an educated purchase..

The current rumor on the sgs2 is 1.2 ghz cpu, 8mp camera with lcd flash, capacitive touch screen,2.3 gb on it, fm radio with rds, hdmi output, 16gb memory,ffc....
if you have have the current vibrant I suggest trying nero v5 with voodoo lag fix.. ka5 with proper flash support...it will completely changer your phone experience...trust me...make a nandroid so you can give it a try and if you don't like it...restore...it feels like a new phone...search for sbg.v2.4 from jdan as well and that will make it even better...

[EVENT] Mass Return of our HTC Vivid

If enough people are interested, I had an idea that DFW XDA members all return their Vivids at the same time for a mass return at the AT&T HQ store in order to make a statement. This is the heart of their operation. We can discuss this, but what I and others came up with so far is:
AT&T Mass Return
Tuesday December 6th at 1:00pm
208 S Akard Street
STE 110
Dallas, TX 75202
Customer Parking Available for 2 hours at:
1600 Commerce Street
Dallas, TX 75201
Everyone is invited. Whether you have a Vivid or not. I understand not everyone lives here, but all are welcome none the less.
Thanks to Radi0chik
What do you guys think of this idea?

i think that lg nitro hd is nice, but ive heard the ui sucks on it... so i was thinking either that new google nexus phone (sorry, im new to android and cant remember all these pohones) or the gs2... id rather have the og gs2 cause its faster than the skyrocket and i dont care to have lte

i think that lg nitro hd is nice, but ive heard the ui sucks on it... so i was thinking either that new google nexus phone (sorry, im new to android and cant remember all these pohones) or the gs2... id rather have the og gs2 cause its faster than the skyrocket and i dont care to have lte

Yea if your going to go with a gs2 Definitely get the OG. The Skyrocket has issues with screen resolution and such. As far as the LG Nitro goes I think that is up in the air considering it is going to have a full 720p screen. I am actually slightly leaning toward the LG just because of that but I still need to research it a little bit more.
Yes. I am wondering the same. Though I'm not sure if it will be rooted... New to thus android world. Also, I'm not sure how the devs will take the phone. I heard the lg ui is like touchwiz but retarded... Not meaning to insult. I'm hoping someone will do a good overview of the nitro by sunday

IMO, both of those UIs are on par with excrement. On day 1 of owning my Captivate, I switched launchers. Even on Froyo/GB, I could not put up with it and just went full AOSP launcher-wise. If the LG launcher is the same, I know that I won't like it for sure.
Sense is the only aftermarket UI that I like, hence why I ended up with this phone.
EDIT: Also, what's even the point of this? Sending a message to AT&T about this phone would do nothing with you guys mass-returning it. After the event, you wouldn't even care what happened to this device's development life anyway, while you guys all go for Nitros or Skyrockets or whatever phone fits your fancy.
Occupy AT&T....not a chance
You mad cause you have no root...?
Root doesn't allow you to do much anyway other than to either overclock your CPU, make a complete backup of your rom, flash any random rom you want etc...
All the phones have the same CPU chipset, you're just paying for different screen resolutions and plastic shells that cover everything
Samsung couldn't even use its custom CPU because it lacked the ability to incorporate LTE technology, so they chose the Snapdragon S3 APQ8060 dual-core CPU...the same one in the Vivid, and the same one is in the LG Nitro.
Its the only CPU capable of allowing AT&T's 4gLTE service to run smooth for the end user
So go ahead, boycott the Vivid, youre only benefit is a screen with a smaller resolution or a screen with a higher resolution, plus youre still gonna pay the difference plus a $35 restocking fee is applicable...
It seems to me that the problem isn't the Vivid. It's AT&T. If you really want to make a statement then keep this amazing phone, cancel your contracts with AT&T, and allow the devs to continue working on unlocking and fully rooting the device which you know they will. This will do two things. One: send a message to AT&T that will cost them BIG-TIME. Two:Once the devs see how many people are willing to SACRIFICE their wireless mobility for such a great device, they may release a carrier unlock and varying radio support for the different competitors for the vivid. There are some major competitors that offer much better rates and data packages with full LTE support that DON'T lock bootloaders.
It seems silly to put such a serious and damaging halt to great development just because you're unwilling to sever the head of the snake, whereas mass returns will accomplish nothing. Well, not nothing, but if you REALLY want this problem addressed, make AT&T pay with the sudden loss of income. HTC isn't the problem. The Vivid isn't the problem. Big corporations have insurance policies to protect them when there's a problem with inventory/product defects/returns etc. But losing customers.. That just plain sucks for ANY business. Hit them where it hurts. The Next big awesome phone you want will just be locked up tight as well unless you send a CLEAR message they CAN'T ignore.
The Vivid counterpart in Canada (Raider) has already had great roms and kernels that work and are supported/updated every couple of days. I love this phone more and more and would switch carriers in a heartbeat if the company I pay my hard earned money to EVERY Month wasn't treating me like a VALUED customer. AT&T KNOWS what they're doing. They KNOW that what they're continuuing to do is WRONG. But they aren't listening becuase the customers aren't willing to lose they're precious contract they've worked so hard for.
Yes, it means going without the ability to use your nice phone for a little while. Yes it will suck having NO cellphone at all with all it's nice features at your disposal and whim. Maybe getting a junker from a better provider and waiting for the devs is asking too much.
Either that or stop and realize you've had your phone for ONE month. Forget everything I've said about teaching your carrier a lesson, and show some support for xda (maybe a little faith and gratitude as well) because they LOVE tinkering with HTC's products. I wonder sometimes if there would even BE an XDA team without HTC. Be patient, or teach them a REAL lesson in customer service. The alternative is YOU losing out, and feeling all proud and happy for giving up something you once loved. But then again nobody wants to admit they're ACTUALLY PAYING AT&T to treat us like prisoners. Stripping you of your right to DO WITH YOUR PROPERTY THAT WHICH YOU FEEL LIKE DOING.
While we're at it let's all go buy REALLY nice houses where we're not allowed to decorate, hang pictures, change the layout of the livingroom, or park our cars anywhere near.
Been following these forums since the beginning of this week when I ordered the phone through amazon. Now that it has finally shipped today after being backordered, I'm seeing this
and returning this, which I got for a penny, would mean I would have to pay full price for the phone I exchange for, correct?
I wish the morale in this forum didn't seem like it is dying away, but I understand that many of us are almost at the 30 day limit on exchanges and two years is an awful long time to go without an unlocked bootloader.
My first htc phone, after going through LG and blackberry.... which might be exchanged like all of yours....
I think a lot of you are missing the point. This is not just about the bootloader. everyone's reasons are different so I can only share my own. So if you have been paying attention to this forum at all you might get that. Personally my reasons are in no particular order: Carrier IQ, locked bootloader..not just because of development, but because you can't get rid of Carrier IQ while the bootloader is locked, being throttled by AT&T with normal use only halfway through my Billing cycle at only 3.6gb while I still have to pay full price even though I'm on an unlimited plan, their lack of answers, their silencing of our voices on forums, and those are just a few reasons. This is beyond "you mad about no root". And if you think I won't care about what happens after this, then you really haven't been paying attention. My plan is to import a phone or stick with my streak until I figure out a better option. If I use a phone they don't have on file for me, then I can at least not be throttled or be affected directly by Carrier IQ.
This idea isn't JUST for vivid users, and no one is occupying anything. This is for the returns to occur in one fell swoop so they can feel the hit they have caused themselves. As paying customers, most of us are tired of being treated like this. If you're having trouble understanding why and how this would matter, then you haven't been following this forum.

everyone Ganged up on me last time when I politely said 'bye bye vivid' not even a week back. Even my thread got deleted and I can't find it on vivid general section anymore.
I think it's worth sticking to Samsung for a while. Eventhough I love sense interface so much, I enjoy having good debloated ROMs that give me full potential of the phone.
I'm back to galaxy s2 and it's totally worth it.

The Carrier IQ situation will allow you to break free of your contract, not happy with AT&T, maybe it wasnt for you, not the first time a subscriber switched carriers. AT&T just got LTE when other carriers had it for longer and unthrottled, what stopped you from leaving then?, I have a bandwidth monitor on my vivid, the HTC IQ AGENT ( Carrier IQ ) doesn't take up gigs of your data plan, matter of fact it takes less than 1/10th of a MB. It is very freaky what this app is capable of and was pretty shocked when I saw the youtube vid. Did you know that uploads are also counted as well!. AT&T will soon realize that 4GB just isnt enough to satisfy customers.
Propose this, you have the ability to break free of your contract pretty soon cause of this whole CIQ debacle, if you want AT&T to keep your business, tell them you want unthrottled unlimited data on your grandfathered plan, they cant do that then just leave without penalty.
Its not HTC's fault AT&T has some weird business practices and contract practices that show up in forums / media from time to time, returning any carriers devices hurts sales and manufacturer reputation. Take the fight where it belongs, tell it to Al Franken..lol

I'm in the same boat as you got mine for .01 and it's a nice phone. The only thing I'd like to do is remove some bloat apps, but honestly who cares. Everything I've thrown at it works way better than it did on my EVO 4g on Sprint.
Its not like I have unlimited data with ATT and I pay for 4gig of data.
I'm keeping mine root or no root.
EDIT: I misread an article that I thought had said that HTC promised it unlocked in a month. Either way, you people are so impatient.
EDIT2: If this is for Carrier IQ then I totally agree, but for a phone that doesn't have an unlocked bootloader That's just stupid.
If you guys are seriously going to "occupy AT&T" then you are idiots. A few hundred people won't make that huge of a difference when they have nearly 100 Million customers.
In the end you're only hurting the development community because when it does get unlocked everyone would have left.
That's my $0.02. Good day.

You raise some really good points. Though I do feel HTC does have some degree of responsibility because it's on their branded product with their name attached to the actual app.

Jumping ship

As much as i have loved my revolution, ill have to make due with parting. Between my career field, situation and the issues I'm going to a Gnex. Permavibe, reboots more constant than a 10 time repeat prison offendor every few hours, lost calls due to above, and performance (me being a game developer) I need to move on lol. Wanted to say how great of a support this place has been with keeping an everything but dor (dead on release) phone alive this long. Ill keep popping in to help where I can (i mildly realize I'm not exactly prevalent here) thanks to the help I've gotten, but at these prices a Gnex is (very!) hard to pass up. Thank you all thus far!

I find that odd, its the best thing Ive ever made a call on. Maybe its denver though, the 4g is quite consistent here, and the 3g comes in spades. There was one point (for maybe 2 hours before a party) that on my OG droid I was hitting 2.6mbps on 3g, when the theoretical limit is 3.1, I was shocked. Now to try some of the "hot" spots Ive found. These are just areas Ive found that make my 4g speeds spike, and where I can consistently get 40-50mbps.
Right off the bat with 2-3 bars I got 25mbps down and 14 up, which is twice what my revo might get (same app + server even). Plus this was in a Denver Verizon store, so you know they show off the 4g to whomever comes in lol.
I certainly wish I could jump ship, but I'm not due an 'upgrade' until february... Unless I can convince big red to push it early due to my phone being a giant pile, I'm stuck with the vibration of death, slow performance, reboots, and screen freezing for another 8 months

Well, if you hate the phone that much might as well just pay the early termination fee and get a new phone. Luckily I have till August might try and get the S3 when it comes out and give myself a birthday present.
Seriously.....dig deep, sell some crap on Craigslist, donate at the plasma bank....whatever. Just bite the bullet, scrape together $400 and buy a RAZR Maxx off of Ebay. Revo is at a dead end. I finally quit b!tching and just replaced the damn doorstop POS. When I went into VZW store to get the micro SIM to activate the RAZR, the staff confirmed the Revo is by far the most hated model in their 4G lineup, and they all hated selling it. Moving on was the smartest thing I've done.

Probably the battery. But I'd take the more development and better specs of the S3 over the better battery.
Well...for people looking to jump ship who have concern about the money, there's about a $250 difference.
Battery life is huge for me, and I've missed that battleship-solid build quality I always had with Motorola. For my $400, it made no sense to suffer with a C-minus phone any longer.
I run rooted stock ICS...so beyond rooting it, I don't need much dev --- although there is quite a lot for the RAZR....far, far more than there will ever be here...for a younger phone. 'nuff said.

The build quality of Motorola phones in my opinion are pretty good since my brother has the Droid X (first one not the X2) and it's decent but I'm going to go to Samsung and give them a chance until more high end Motorola and HTC phones hit Verizon.
Found a great deal! GNex, dual incipio case, 3 anti glare screen protectors, 1 very nicely pre applied, and extended battery for $258. Does everything my revo did and then some, and I haven't even rooted it yet. Wifi tether included.
