I'd check out the Klipsch Image S4 or Image S4i (the only difference is the S4i has phone controls). I haven't used them myself yet but they're great from everything I've read and Klipsch makes fantastic products.

Thanks mate, will check them out.

No problem. Also, in case you're not using it yet I'd jump over to one of the kernels that include the VooDoo sound drivers. They make a world of difference in listening to music on the phone (there is a link to Netarchy's kernel in my sig)

Using that already..
I have a rooted standard NS (2.3.2, GRH78C) with Netarchys awesome kernel.
I had to go back to 1.1 because 1.2 was crashing the phone at every boot.
Sound is superb even through the packaged headphones.

You'll notice a huge difference with better ones, trust me. I tested the sound improvements through the stock headphones as well as a few of my high end pairs and there is a monumental difference.

First track I listened to was The Dandy Warhols - Nietzsche.... blew me away.. thanks again

might seem crazy, but i bought the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset, and the sound quality is friggin superb. the inline button works for pause/play/ff for all the apps music player, google listen, etc. and they are so comfortable. totally worth it, but costs 130 dollars. best thing i did for my phone though

Am I the only person who cant hear any difference with or without the voodoo audio tweaks? I use Sony MDR EX 300 headphones and have done for a while.... (they are awesome imo)

I've never been a fan of the sound reproduction of Sony headphones.
Here is a quote from a review of those headphones
The sound has all the traits of Sony in-ear earphones. It's no secret that average-quality dynamic transducers with an ill-designed resonance cavity don't make for mind-blowing performances.
The lack of balance is highly audible, with mediums and high frequencies that are well defined but a bass that's too strong and not very well contained. The overall definition suffers as a result and makes the sound feel a bit invasive.
Thankfully, they're much better than the kind of headphones typically supplied with portable music players, and this model is fine for anyone looking for a decent starter pair of in-ear headphones.
So long as you can find them sold at a decent price (the RRP is way too high) these headphones are a great model for anyone who wants to try out a pair of in-ear headphones. Look past the low-end packaging and a sound quality that could still be better, and these headphones have everything you need to get started.

Also, to the OP just to add a few other options...I'd forgotten about this website:
Headphone.com $50-$100 search

Is there anyone using the Klipsch S4i with SNS? I'd like to know if all the play / pause / volume buttons work?

Interesting quote. Thanks. But I like them, so each to their own I suppose.
Still, I can't hear the difference when using the Voodoo audio tweaks and I seem to be alone in that.

I haven't used those specifically, but I have used a pair of Etymotic HF3s and a pair of iBeats or something like that (my wife's). Both have controls and only the controls on the Etymotic ones worked.

I apologize, I hope you didn't take my post as an attack on your headphones, I was merely trying to inform as to a possible reason why the difference is not readily apparent. I can confirm that there is a difference and that the quality of the headphones being used does effect it (I've tested 4 pairs of headphones both with and without the tweak).

No, its cool. I spent £30 on headphones - they are not going to be as good as a £100 pair! At the price at least, I stand by em! I will try it with my Sennheiser PXC-300's tomorrow and see if I can hear it.

Hehe, the warm feeling of approval

I just picked up a pair of audio technica ath-m50 headphones from eBay for $125. They are arguably the best headphones you can get for the money.

I would not suggest buying headphones from eBay because of how many fakes there are.

Is it me or are the supplied earphones really poor. The rubber bud is in contact with the ear canal so vibrations when i walk are audible and i can hear the wire rubbing when i walk. Very poor design if you ask me.

Hi futurama,
I don't know as i haven't used mine and never use any ear phones that come with my devices as they are only average at best. Upgrading them is always a good idea if you intend to listen to a lot of Music and is one of the eaisiest ways of getting better performance along with using higher bit rates for encoding your Muisc. It also doesn't have to cost the earth either as decent in ear phones can be found at different price levels depending on what the user wants to spend and what reulst they are looking to achieve.
I use pair of Shure EC2g's that i have had for ages now along with a Nokia BH-500 Bluetooth adapter and think the results i get from using them with my Streak are great.

I think the streak sounds horrid compared to my old iphone and even my nexus one and captivate.

I've used a SE phone before and their bundled earphones are of a better than average quality. I would say that these earphones aren't all that good, average at best and you should consider going for a higher quality one.
the sound quality is really bad on the ones that came with my phone. only tried them once and never touched them since then...

Depends how picky you are (the sound in them are bad). If your going to stream some music from any music service like spotify or wimp (with low bitrate) it don't do much of a difference . If your going to listen to your own personal ripped flac collection you probably want to buy a new pair of earphones or maybe headphones.
I wasn't to happy with the rubber ether but changed it for another pair of rubber from an pair of SE earphones. After that its good enough for me. But I'm currently just streaming poor quality any way.

just note that even the earphones that come with MP3 player...even excellent players are just CRAP, and those are supposed to put emphasys on products that DO JUST ONE THING ....PLAY MUSIC with quality.....

Weak Basses and highs and quite Parts are completely washed.

I have used them and I really dont like them. I had to use them when I didnt have anything else and needed to get new ones. When I got new ones, I never looked back. Trust me, avoid them if possible!

I recommend to buy some cheap Sennheiser earplug for example. Those aren't high-def either, but they are a quantum leap comparing to the Lg ones...

People claim they are awesome. I own a pair and do not think they are that great. Nothing, IMO, beats a pair of over the ear headphones. $100 bucks is pricey too for a pair of earbuds. The quality seems to be quite low, too. I replaced them twice before buying a pair of headphones.

I have them and I love em. They sound better than any other earbuds ive owned.
I have the image s4's. I would say they are fairly average in that range. Etymotics have better fidelity but less bass.
The sound profile of these changes completely once you get a set of comply foam tips on them. Seal is better, bass is punchier, mids and highs aren't as grating and they fit my ears a lot more comfortably.

I use my GR07 MK2 (neutral) almost exclusively, but my partner owns a pair of ckm500 and they're very "fun" & easy to drive. A little too "boomy" and no where near quick enough for me, but keep in mind this is coming from someone who enjoys quick precise BA/ BA like dynamic iems
Edit: I'd also throw Yamaha's EPH-100 into the mix. They can be had for ~$100, but their difficult to find.

In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) can most certainly be worth the price, plenty of professional musicians using them onstage quite happily. For great info on headphones check a musician or audiophile source, I like head-fi.org, here's a buying guide they keep updated:
http://www.head-fi.org/a/buying-guide-headphones-by-price-range
also check http://www.gearslutz.com/board/ which is a music engineering forum, I'm sure there's some good info there.
When I decided to get a nice pair of over-the ear headphones I took my ipod to Guitar Center and started taking headphones out of boxes and trying them out. A musician-based store will understand needing to audition the gear, and I ended up spending $150 on a pair of KKRs that I love, which I use with my Viewsonic Gtab. I routinely hear things in songs I've never heard before with this setup.
There's another thread in this forum about using external USB Digital-Analogue Converters (DACs) with the HDMI port to get even better sound, but then you start running into the quality of your files, lossy(mp3) vs lossless(flac), etc.
FWIW At work I love my cheap Sony plugs, surprisingly nice sound for under $20.
DOH. Didn't even see that everyone else was linking to head-fi.
A good pair of IEMS can sound better than Over the ears cans, here are mine http://www.head-fi.org/t/596573/new-toy-iems-and-music-player-d#post_8156648 been using it with the S3, iPhone 5, and now the Note II and so far soooo good
these are http://audioearz.com Cheap but high quality !!!!! i just recently upgrade mine from AUD-5x to AUD-7x
im using stock headphones that came with the note 2. listening to it with power amp and bass and treble turned higher, it sounds amazing.
Hey! Thanks for all the replies! What I'm after is a decent pair of IEM with the mic and volume controls which is fully compatible with the GN2. The stock one aren't that bad but I'm looking for something with better audiophile but has to have the hands-free function as well. The S4A II seems to be the only one that fits the job right now. I've looked at JAYS but not so sure about brand. When I really just want to listen to music, I use my custom fit pair of UE.

I use a pair of Sony XBA-2vp. Dual balanced armature IEMs with mic control for Android. Volume control is through an analog slider though.
IIRC it got decent reviews on Head Fi. Although if there was a XBA-3 with Android controls, I would have probably bought that instead.
Kind regards

Sound dock

Does anyone use or know of a good sound dock to use with our note 2?
There are plenty of options for the iPhone/ipod but android seems quite limited.
Phillips seem to have a fairly good range from budget to higher end.
Or maybe is it better to have just a speaker(s)
I am not wanting one to use as an alarm just purely for music.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Both speakers look interesting, the Jambox seems to have some good reviews and is near to the top end of what i am wanting to spend.
Sound quality is a factor and i know i am not going to get state of the art with my budget nor ear splitting volume, i have my stereo for that anyway the Jambox again seems to have good reviews for sound quality the mini boombox does not have quite the same reviews although there is quite a price difference between the two.
One advantage of these as opposed to a dock is they are portable.
Any other recommendations on other speakers or docks or user views on the two items mentioned above.
Thanks
I was in Target couple days ago, and saw Bose Soundlink and BigJambox, same price, but I'm more interested in the Jambox, the demo song, it does indeed shows 3D virtual surround. Not sure if it still have 3D with non binaural recorded songs, but it's amazing. Might get that, need to save some dough first though, at$300 it's not cheap for me.

Thanks, do you have a link to the exact model you mention.
With the change to lightning from the Apple 30 pin, there should be a ton of discounted speakers and docks made for the older gen iOS devices. With Bluetooth to 30 pin adapters like this dockboss air : http://www.cablejive.com/products/dockBoss-air.html , you should be able to find a good solution. This is actually how I've tapped into my car stereo which has an iPod connector with my android devices. The nice side effect is that it passes the media controls as well, so the track advance/reverse can be controlled through it.

despite the negative reviews, I never had any problem with mine, and I have connected it to maybe 30 different phones and pda's because I bring it to work and my colleagues use it... maybe those people who gave a negative review do not know what they are doing to connect the unit....
Edit:
The Altec speaker is more on the clinical side... so it is good for listening to musical, voacls, rock, etc... it lacks the very deep bass of other speakers like the Bose or Logitech Boombox which I have owned... but it compensates for it's audio clarity... If you like bigger boomy bass, go for the logitach boombox, otherwise go for the the Altec... the Bose is not worth it IMHO.

I have the sound stack from soundfreaq. They make a really good product from my experience.
I did a review of it here:

I have reviews coming up of specific android units from philips, iluv, and gracedigital. The grace digital dock is even note 2 specific!
Just an update on my Soundfreaq sound kick.
I am really impressed with the speaker, amazing clear sounds with no distortion, volume level is great as well.
Not for anyone who is looking for deep bass, but this little speaker is perfect for needs.
I like the usb slot at the back so i can charge my phone as it plays if i need to.
Really happy and a bargain at £74 when i bought it.

Samsung HS330

So after watching a couple of GS4 unboxing videos, I've become pretty interested in the included earphones which, as far as I've read, will be available separately for around $30.
Now I'm far from an audiophile but I would still like some decent earphones to use. I was planning to buy myself a pair of these but since the HS330s have volume control on the in-line remote, I thought they might be better.
Since real-world testing is somewhat out of the question at this point, based on specs alone, which of the two do you guys think should have better sound quality?

I was wondering the same thing after reading this review. What got me was this: They offer better bass than just about any other pair of headphones you can find in a smartphone's retail package, although they probably won't fully replace any high-end aftermarket earphones, if you happen to have those. I was looking for something new so that I could retire my current headphones. So I collected an S4 for my mom today and tested out the earphones.
I was not impressed at all. I don't know what bass they are talking about. The max volume from them is also quite low.
To be fair, all the earphones that come with the phones I get normally stay in the box untouched. So I can't say how they fared against other headsets which come in the retail packaging.
I have a 10yr old pair of Sony MDR-EX70LP Fontopia Headphones which even went through a wash cycle and they totally blew the HS330s out of the water in every sound aspect. (I am not an audiophile, so I can't go into lots of detail, but they are much louder, have much deeper and louder bass and are clear and crisp. All the other sounds are there too and sound just as good. )
I don't know if this a an apples to apples comparison, but take it as my 2c.

This is really helpful. Thanks a lot. Even though I know I can get better, I'm actually content with the earphones that came with my Note 2. So if the S4 ones are at least as good as that, I'll probably buy them still. But if they're actually a downgrade then screw that, haha.
Anyone have a review about Samsung HS330 Please... and where is we can buy this earphone online?

I have a pair of Zagg Headphones that came free with my screen protector that work better then anything else I have had. But speaking on headphones, my wife's iphone5 headphones are pretty nice I must say.

They're finally on Ebay. This is the cheapest of two that I found, at around 27 dollars or so: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400504212596
Btw, the Sony MH1C would be a better buy, since it's one of the best earphones you can buy that has functioning buttons for Android devices.
