Dell Streak 7 (Can) be upgraded

*Can* being the Operative word
today I decided to use my wording skills AKA gift of backing people verbally into a corner, to talk to a dell Representative, about upgrading our devices and addressed a couple of questions regarding Honeycomb both about the specs of the device meeting honeycomb standards as well as a release date,
Here is the result of the conversation, Just like any CSR the Rep tried to avoid solid answers, Its sales it happens.
Note*gave dell rep a good review

11:46:00 Tuan hi jeffery i got questions about the dell streak
11:46:22 Tuan the 7 to be exact
11:46:54 Jeffrey A
What about?
11:47:39 Tuan
upgrades is this device going to get upgraded from the old os that it came with?
11:47:59 Tuan
i have seen no progress or even a timeline of possible upgrades
11:48:48 Tuan
i purchased this device based off of the pretty hardware specs but haven't seen any thing about the OS getting updates other then a few apps being fixed
11:50:08 Tuan
is there any word or possible estimate for a software upgrade from dell?
11:50:59 Jeffrey A
Are you referring to the software next to Honeycomb?
11:51:24 Tuan
yes either honeycomb or even ginger bread 2.2 just really does not flatter this devices specs
11:53:04 Tuan
the best way to explain my experience with this devices is it has the body of a brand new camero but a engine of a old 76 VW bug
11:54:44 Jeffrey A
I'm sorry but the Honeycomb is the latest OS for the Android.
11:54:59 Jeffrey A
The Gingerbread is the 2.3 version.
11:55:12 Jeffrey A
Honeycomb is the 3.0/3.1 version.
11:55:27 Tuan
will the device be getting honeycomb?
11:56:30 Jeffrey A
By the way, do you already have this device?
11:56:34 Tuan
yes
11:57:10 Jeffrey A
The Streak 5 or Streak 7 can be upgraded to Honeycomb.
11:57:59 Tuan
yes but will the be
11:58:13 Tuan
can and will are 2 different things
11:58:23 Tuan
my question today is will they be upgraded
12:00:30 Jeffrey A
If you are really asking if there will be a new OS or version, I'm sorry but Dell is not the proper company to ask about it. We may carry the device but not the software. If there will be news, we will advertise and inform our customers.
12:01:08 Tuan
so you guys dont know
12:01:12 Tuan
fair enough
12:01:55 Jeffrey A
As of yet, yes. We still have no information from Google.
12:03:07 Tuan
ok and about the spec restrictions with 3.0 i.e Screen resolution does this
device meet the pre-requisites for the 3.0 OS?
12:04:11 Jeffrey A
Should be since most of our customers are not having problem with the LCD resolution. They are already in Honeycomb version.
12:04:52 Tuan
ok ill be keeping track of the devices O.S. Progress thank you for being very helpful
12:05:03 Tuan
I appreciate it
12:05:21 Jeffrey A
Sure, No problem.
12:05:26 Jeffrey A
Is there anything else that I can further assist you with?
12:05:50 Tuan
no you were extremely helpful
12:06:06 Jeffrey A
Thank you.
12:06:11 Jeffrey A

So boys and Girls there you have it looks like we need to Dev our own Rom
I hope this post was at least helpful
And I hope im Incorrect about this but looks like we may be left by the wayside
I just had a chat with a DELL rep who said we are getting Honeycomb, but he couldn't give a date. I think these guys are just low-level sales reps who have no real idea. If you've ever worked in a call center, you know the drill; it's all hearsay and rumour that you pass along as official to the customers.
I can't see DELL not upgrading, but it could take awhile (Streak 5, anyone?). With the 10" Streak being released with Honeycomb next month, I could see if they wait for their big gun to get to market before they upgrade the afterthought (though the S7 could have been awesome with HC up front).
I'm just afraid that AOSP won't drop until Ice Cream Sandwich, because Google's scared of crappy manufacturers releasing phones with HC on them. But, once all that does get released, we ought to be able to get it on our S7s. I don't know about quality, though, as we have no kernel devs on our device.
Maybe we need to purchase another S7 for someone out there who's a good kernel dev.I've found used ones as low as ~$275 (a little scratched and such, but good, working units). I posted on the CM forums about it, too.
Love the Streak 7 and love the StreakDroid ROM, but it's still a beta. I'm worried that this device will be left blowing in the wind, once all the new stuff comes out this summer.
well hopefully we get some more solid devs to get on top of these devices hardware wise it is a solid device good next gen device unfortunately the lack of support and the outdated OS is a major turn off for me personally, either way im hanging on to this device and waiting to see what happens, nothing wrong with sticking with the under dog device
keep your eyes peeled not giving a day just letting you guys know to keep your eyes on the forum.

saw the video great news I honestly don't have too high of a expectation from Dell or Google for this device

Honeycomb Campaign!

This is to everyone with a Streak 7 (with 3 minutes of spare time)!
I want everyone to pop a post here:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/t/19391686.aspx
Saying how you really expect Honeycomb and how it would be very poor service from Dell if we didn't get it.
Please don't dis Dell, or play them down or call them bad because we haven't had the update yet, im sure that wouldn't provoke them for answers. Just maybe how you would find it very poor if we didn't get it. Im sure you get the picure.
I will not stop until there's hundreds of different users with post's on that thread!
I've been to that forum, I don't think Dell read their own forum.
Yeah but serioualy though,
3 minutes to sign up and post.
Theres replies there from dell, but only with the post's that stick.
My whole point.
I'm going to try their twitter accounts...
Thats cool, but take the time to post on the Dell post only takes 3 minutes.
If every 1 here interested in Honeycomb for the streak 7 did, that would a few hundred, along with the other sites hope to make it over 500 after a few months. Then maybe news sites with rs feeds might take a bit of notice.
Maybe high hopes, but a few hundred over few months greatly increase the chance of response from dell.
Like mentioned theres responses from dell there but only with posts that stick.
You must not have much experience with dell. Dell only cares about customers who haven't paid them yet. But I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

Read complete review on Nexus 7 here *REMOVE LINKS* i am sure it will be very helpful to you.
Sorry, but this is more an advertising than a real complete review...
No CONS & PROS, benefits, drawback etc...This is what every good review should have…
Like all other blatant advertising I didn't even look at it. No click counts for you! XDA is not your personal town hall bulletin board.
this review is quite bad... no word about washed out colors due to wrong display-calibration.

Chromebook Comparisons

My laptop's hard drive has just died on me so I thought that it'd be a good time to upgrade to a more portable laptop for school.
Ultrabooks are awesome but their prices are just a little too high for me right now.
Chromebooks look fantastic for me.
Good price, decent performance and battery life, and I can still do everything that i've done on my laptop before.
(Taking notes, writing essays, listening to music and YouTube.)
I really like how sleek and sexy the $249 Samsung Chromebook is but the Acer Chromebook interests me.
I understand that you can load Ubuntu on it which would be very interesting for me. Additionally, I know that it's upgradeable.
Would buying the Acer Chromebook and upgrading its ram to 4-6 gigs (for an additional $40) be worth it more than the $249 Samsung to you guys?
What would you guys buy/do?
Would be better suited in the computer thread...
