Cutting a hole in TPU case? - Nexus S Accessories

So I have a case from TPU-cases.com and love it but have decided I'm tired of how hard it is to press the power button. Anyone have any suggestions how to cut out a hole for it? Do you think this would make it easier or more difficult to press the button?
I just tinkered with a sharp knife and this case is really, really tough...

I don't have one of these cases but you might try to sand out the inside using a dremel at low speeds or carve out the inside of the button area with something else. Hope you didn't take the knife to the outside of the case. That'll look tacky. Ideally you want to make the button softer.

I had to remove a bit of excess plastic around the microusb port on my N1's TPU case, as well as some extra around the flash on the camera (it was giving all my flash photos a blue tint). I used an X-acto knife and was INCREDIBLY careful. It worked, although it wasn't PERFECT.

use a hole puncher, or simply use scissor if you don't mind minor imperfections

Exacto knife.

Power button and volume rocker sucked when I first got the case. However, i flashed something wrong a few days ago and had to do a battery pull. Putting the vase on a second time lined everything up better somehow (these cases are a little too tight) and the power button is much much easier to press. On a side note, I'm really hesitant about taking on and off this particular case. The edges are a little too stiff and sharp for my taste and I'm afraid it will eventually scratch or Mar the plastic bezel taking it on and off. Other than that its a great case. I am using the gloss black one but I also have the smoke argyle case from the same company (tpucases.com) and the smoke has a rough spot on one of the edges and didn't fit or line up as well as the black one. Leads me to believe some of these will give you an easier time pressing the buttons than others. Sanding the button cutouts to make them thinner and easier to press does seem like a great idea though.

I was trying to figure out what edge you are talking about that is sharp and now that I'm holding the case in my hand i see it, its the inside edge of the case. You can only feel it when its off the phone. I would be extremely surprised if you could scratch the bezel with TPU. I've never had any customer tell me they have done so at least, and I never have on any of my phones.
As for the power button stiffness, we have now addressed this on all future models. We finally went to a cutout design. Of course now that we have done so I've already received 2 reports of people saying they liked the molded design better. I guess you cant please everyone! Still using a molded volume rocker, but the TPU is thinned out a bit more on the newer models so it should be easy to press. If your using one of our older cases a nice trick is putting some clear tape on the inside of the case where the molded buttons are to fill in the gap. Works very well on some models. I've cut TPU cases with xacto knives before and I would recommend it, it always ends up looking like crap. If your more skilled with a blade then me maybe you could do better.

I know this thread is dated, but I did a search and it lead me here. I need to cut out a hole in the edge for the infrared blaster for my samsung galaxy tab sch-I815 7.7. As you may or may may not know that it's difficult to find a good selection of tpu cases for this device. Would a hot knife eg. Exacto blade mounted in a variable temp soldering iron, small dremel grindng bit or a leather hole puncher work better? At what temperature will the tpu material melt and not burn?

If you're nifty with a sharp knife or paper cutter. This might be for you.. Depending on how hard or soft the TPU case is, I use to slice CAREFULLY the top and bottom part of the button tab impressions of the case, without slicing everything off. Thus loosen it up a bit, and give it a little more flexibility. Which leaves me with the buttons still protected, and also not get bugged thinking an overly tight case might break the button itself with the constant pressure all the time. It works for me. It could probably work for you too.
Note: Just slice the top and bottom part. Imagine the button impression as a rectangle. You just slice the longer sides of the rectangle part, leave the shorter sides alone..

What I did was remove the nexus s back cover and the buttons pressed just fine I have a tpu case and don't really need nfc

Review gray aluminium bumper + pictures

Very good, if not best case I ever owned of this type. Very smooth edges, a lot of small details, grainy feeling comparable to a macbook.
Gray fits perfectly titanium gray note 2.
Additional buttons work like a charm with a good travel and subtle click.
Adds 1,5-2 mm of thickness and 3mm of height and width to the device, 15 grams gain is imperceptible.
No antenna radio or NFC issues.
The phone wiggles a very very small bit inside of it but you can tuck it to perfection by just adding a little more adesive spacer tape (than what it's delivered with) to the inside of the bumper.
Looks quite nice, i like the idea of having a heavy metal band around the phone.
Makes the phone look even sturdier and stronger.
I´d be glad if you could answer a few questions about it.
Do the buttons have a "clicky" feeling when you press them?
And how easily does the bumper´s front part slide into place and accordingly goes off when you want to remove the case? Does it rattle when the bumper is on the phone i.e. is the sliding mechanism firm when closed?
And finally, could you link us to the page where you´ve bought this piece?
Thank you

Yes there is a subtle clicking sound that is very nice to know if you actually pressed it right.
It slides very well and won't scratch if you clean off the dust before removing or putting the case, but as I said you may want to add one or two rubber bands over the one who are already inside so that the phone doesnt move at all.
I ordered the same one off eBay and I hope you don't mind me putting in my two cents.
The adhesive tape on the inside was actually more than enough for me. If anything I had to push down on the phone so the front would slide over the screen. That being said mine fit perfectly. So much so that I probably wouldn't have it on without a screen protector on. The part that slides over the phone is bare aluminum. But I guess the fit of it is going to vary, especially considering it's easiest to find on eBay.
The buttons on the case IMO improve the feeling of the volume and power buttons. There is a very satisfying click when pressed.
The size of it is a tiny bit more than I'd like. I don't think most people would mind but I'm ultra minimalist; I'm now just using a BodyGuardz skin. But probably the best thing about this bumper is that it keeps the front and back of the phone off of surfaces. Even more importantly the back is spaced perfectly enough that even the "bump" of the camera is elevated.
The hole cutouts are all there for mics, USB, and headphone. The main issue I'm having is the headphone jack hole is a bit too small for some of my headphones/speakers. Other than that they're all machined perfectly. The sides are extremely flat and smooth so if the phone is lying on a table it can sometimes be a little difficult to pick up.
A lot can be said of the sturdiness of this case. I have NO doubt that it will protect the edges of the phone. Even without the phone inside the case it resists bending and twisting even with a fair bit of force.
Sorry if I hijacked your thread a little bit xp
Thats a weapon!

which one did you get I see on amazon some people are displeased with the usb and headphone port. I want to get the blue one. The ones I see on amazon dont appear to have the phone raised when sitting on a flat surface.
I just ordered one from here http://www.tmart.com/Aluminium-Metal-Bumper-Case-for-Samsung-N7100-GALAXY-Note2-Gray_p166896.html
Only 10.99 a pop with free shipping.

Just received mine in the mail that I ordered from ebay. Initial thoughts...it does add a little bulk (to be expected) but overall VERY happy with the bumper. No noticeable difference in signal and it feels very sturdy in hand like it could take several drops without damaging the phone. Also the buttons have a clicky feel like the OP stated and it just enhances the bumper even more IMO.
No issues with any of the cutouts but will say that the s-pen cutout feels awkward. I can pull the pen out fine but putting it back in is the awkward part. Because of the cutout, I have to use my thumbnail to make sure it feels like the pen is completely attached again.
I'll post some pictures later but overall satisfied with the case. Here's the link to the one I bought..... ebay bumper. I bought my for $17.98 including shipping but noticed that the seller immediately raised the exact same bumper to $67.98 after I bought mine.

Sent you a PM Laynee. I'm interested in your bumper.
Looks nice
Looks pretty sweet i'm starting to feel jealous of that grey phone (got it in white) I'm thinking of buying one but i'm not sure if it will protect the phone, my biggest concern is the screen not cracking
Do you guys think it will survive a few falls?
I'm rocking a black aluminum on a white phone and it looks pretty sexy. I do think that it would protect against a fall or two. Same coverage as a TPU case just the back is exposed. I figure that I can get a replacement back cover if needed.

I have a silver one I don't need. It felt good but like the other poster kind of bulky for my tastes. Anyone want it pm me.
I have this in silver for my white Note and I love it. I have no wiggle. The only comment I'd have is that the headphone hole isn't big enough for most headphone jacks. The jack on the headphones that come with the phone works, but almost all others don't. Thinking about taking a drill bit to it. I've dropped it twice from about 2 feet, no scratches or problems.
I will say that it doesn't help the phone be more easily held (doesn't put any texture on the back) but then again it's nice that it's easy to get out of the pocket...

Three words....Heavy as f**k. I've got one, you don't realise till you take it out, and yes, the little weight on the bumper is a lot when you compare with/without it on. I'm still sing it though, saved my phone about 10+ times in the last month.

Very dissapointed in Otterbox Defender case

I got my new Otterbox Defender case from AT&T today. Only paid $42 with shipping and tax so that wasn't too bad.
I weighed it against my Seidio Active case and holster and the Otterbox with holster weighs 12.5 ounces and the Active case with holster is 10.5 ounces if anybody was interested. Removing the clear plastic protective cover from the Otterbox lightens it by 0.15 ounces or about 4 grams.
I will say this thing feels like it will take a lot of abuse before the phone will break. That is of course, unless the screen is hit by a direct impact that the case can't deflect. Remember, there is a lot of screen area so anything protruding like a rock that makes initial contact with the screen will probably break the screen. No case will stop that.
Things I don't like about the Defender whether I knew about it when ordering or not......
yeah it adds a lot of bulk but not too bad. The volume up and down buttons are not very responsive but I suspect some electrical tape on the inside of the case over the phone buttons should help with that. The power button is actually a little too responsive for my taste. It is very easy to click the power button which sucks because the volume buttons have to be pressed hard and the thumb is usually over near the power button when operating the volume buttons. This leads to easy power button pressing.
The plastic case creaks like a wooden floor in a turn of the century house. What the hell is all of this about. Whether you squeeze the case side to side or twist the phone slightly. I suspect it is the outside case rubbing against the inner hard plastic case. I will try some baby powder on that. Still, the case does not have the rigidity that I was hoping for. If you manually twist the phone case at opposite corners the thing flexes way easily.
I called myself from my home phone, walked away and left the note 2 on the counter. I did not hear any echo from either phone as others have reported. This may show up later thought. If the phones are close together then echo can be present.
The plastic protective cover that comes with the case is garbage. Plain and simple. Yes there is a gap between the plastic and the phone screen. Very annoying. I took the plastic off within a few minutes. I have my own screen protector on it anyway.
I like the charging port and headphone port being covered with the rubber plugs.
When the case is put in the holster there is little leeway where the holster snaps into the detent in the phone edge. Several times I have found that the phone had to be adjusted a bit in order for the case to snap into the holster firmly. This may be a problem down the line or I might just modify it so that this makes a positive connection more easily.
This isn't really a comparison between the Active case and the Defender but I thought I would point out a few things.
I don't like having to use the Defender holster as a kickstand for the phone. The Active case has a built in stand in the case.
I do like the protective lip around the screen of the Defender which is made up of the softer outer shell and the hard plastic inner shell. The outside is not soft and gummy like silicone (like the Active) but a little harder. Kind of like a hard rubber but not as hard as a standard hard plastic if that makes any sense. It has a good feel to it. If the Defender is laid face down the hard lip does nothing to keep it from sliding. If laid on its back it resists sliding a little better depending on the surface. It is the opposite with the Active case. The Active has the silicone lip on the face and keeps the phone from sliding around if place face down. If the Active is placed on its back it will slide because the outside part is hard plastic.
The camera has a nice cutout with a lot of plastic protruding around it. The only way this camera lens is getting damages is if something goes right into the cutout and hits the lens directly. Getting to the stylus is very easy.
Ok, I did take the outer cover off and rubbed some baby powder to the inside. The creaking noise is diminished but still there.
I will try out the otterbox for a while and see how I like it. I work in a factory so it is highly plausible that this could fall off of a 12 foot ladder onto concrete. If I worked in an office I would not be using this case most likely.
I really like the look of the Active case in red much better than the otterbox. Fortunately, I place practicality over fashion generally.
Either way, I will hang on to the case and see what happens. Considering that both of these cases have similar MSRP (prices) the value is definitely in the Otterbox as far as material and engineering. The Active case needs to have a little more engineering and firmer material around the screen. in order to ask as much money as they do.
My biggest issue with the Defender is two fold:
1) Face it, this is an UGLY utilitarian looking case hiding our sexy thin phone. They did NOTHING to add any sex appeal to this case. It's like putting a bikini model in a full length raincoat and buttoning every snap.
2) The plastic screen protector feels cheap, scratchy and provides too much drag on the s-pen.
I got my commuter a few hours ago. It's pretty nice looking, the buttons aren't too hard to press, the cutouts are perfect, and it comes with a screen protector which I choose not to use. I couldn't ask for more from it. I also feel like it's very protective and would survive a 6 ft drop (even though im 5 ft).

I haven't had the opportunity to hold the commuter series for this phone. Most of the cases for this phone need to be ordered since nobody seems to have anything in stock for this phone, around where I live, and I live in a decent sized city.
I got the commuter for $35 shipped on amazon. 3-5 day shipping, ordered Wednesday and got it earlier today even though it was expected tomorrow to friday! I tried to buy one closest to me for a decent price and the seller accessory net did great.

I too have the creaking issue with the Defender. Mine(two of them) also creak and crackle. The plastic part that snaps together does not snap tightly thus causing some play which in turn causes the feeling that there is movement underneath and the creaking sounds. I got a replacement on the first one for this and the second one they sent also does this.
Otter customer service is great but the product right now imo is subpar
It is probably going to creak because it is suppose to flex... that is the whole point of the case absorbing impacts.
My biggest gripe about the Defender case is that dust makes it way in between the case's plastic screen protector and the phone's glass screen. It enters at the Home button mostly and at the top opening for the sensors. I have to open the case at least once a week and wipe out the dust. It's mainly fabric debris from my jeans pocket so I don't think it's anything scratchy.
honestly i hate my commuter case, its to damned fat,but when i drop my 700$ phone ,im happy, strange how that works
oddly enough, the only time I have dropped my Note 2 is when I used the otterbox Defender holster. If the phone case is pushed back and down in the holster when inserting , then the holster tab doesn't fully lock into the notch in the case. I thought I had it snapped in and it fell about 42 inches, I have a 36 inch inseam, and hit the concrete floor. Of course, this is a walk in the park for the Defender case so naturally there was no damage or marks on the case at all, and I wasn't worried about it when I picked the phone up.
My Active case has a much better spring loaded latch design so it is impossible for this to happen.
I actually got my knife out and made a little adjustment on the case notch so this won't happen again.

Roo Case exec tough (black) review..

So I needed a case for my S6 edge as I am rather active during the day and while I have never dropped a phone, I didnt want to have an oops moment adn drop this one and break it. Bought a case from Speigen which normally has good reviews... but the case seemed like it was made about 1mm to long and it constantly bugged me that my phone moved around in it a little. But me being cheap and realizing that the case while annoying protected my phone just fine, never replaced it.
Then I got my hands on the RooCase... First impression was seemed decent, about on par with my other case, but seriously how different could it be? Boy was I about to get an eye opener...
Installation: the fit was TIGHT! I actually used a micro screwdriver to help the edges over the phones power and volume buttons. I didn't really need to I found out but as I said this case fits good and tight and I hate putting a lot of side load on small switches and buttons. once on the phone the case is nice and firm. No wiggle at all. Much better than my old case. The only issue I had with installation was that the edge of the case pushed my film style screen protector up and caused it to bubble a bit in a couple spots. this was alleviated with my micro screwdriver gently lifting the edge of the case and using a guitar pick to smooth the bubble out before releasing the case edge back down. If you installed a screen protector and it is off center you may need to watch out for this. I don't blame the case for this, but just giving heads up.
Feel: I'm not going to get into the technical manes and such, and for that I apologize, but here are my impressions of the case in hand. the back of the case is a lightly textured hard plastic. the top and bottom edge of the back is a rubbery type material. the sides are the same plastic as the back of the case, but with rubber inserts down the middle. I found that the back is a little slick and slides a touch in my hand, but with the rubbery top and bottom it really isn't an issue. I would love to see some sort of rubbery addition or something to the back to aid in anti-slip if I could have everything I wanted... the rubber inserts on the sides, while rather thin, do a wonderful job of adding just enough grip to the device. In the hand the case feels great. No sharp edges, just enough tactile feel, nad good and solid.
Design: The case has small protrusions on the back so that when you lay it down the Camera and such is well protected. these protrusions are formed i the rubbery top and bottom parts and I found that they also do a wonderful job of keeping the device from sliding around on smooth surfaces. the top and bottom edges of the front are also protruding past the device protecting the screen and again keeping the device from sliding, albeit it will slide just a bit easier than the back.
the openings are all well shaped and cut out to perfectly line up with the phones charging, speaker, headphone jack and what ever the two openings on the top of the phone are... Cant remember what they are right now, Oh well...
on the outer edges of the corners there is a larger protrusion of rubber that will protect the phone if dropped on the corners. I don't feel like dropping my phone to test this, but they seem well designed and placed. large enough to add extra protection, but still small enough to flow with the case and phones lines perfectly.
My favorite part of the case design is the buttons. I really love the buttons on this case. Most cases have marks, or molded bumps for the buttons. This case has real, actual freaking metallic buttons! They actually feel better than the phones stock buttons. the power button has two vertical lines cut into the face of it and in the dark it is so easy to slide my finger down the side of the case until I feel that and I know instantly my finger is o the button to either turn on or off the screen or what ever Im trying to do. the volume button is a nicely prominent as well with a nice line cut in the middle to differentiate between up and down. again, very simple and easy to feel with your finger to adjust volume. the buttons are nice and prominent, but still low profile enough to not be a bother. the corner bumpers I mentioned earlier are just a touch wider than the buttons are, so again, everything flows very well.
Protection: well... the case is great. I work in Law Enforcement. we do all sorts of active training adn what not and because of my unit I am always on call so I have to keep my phone with me at all times. I had it in my pocket the other day and my phone took two hits from simunition... the screen was destroyed. instantly and catastrophically. so I figured why not, the phone was already destroyed and going to be replaced... So I set the phone up with the case facing out and hit it a few times with the simunition rounds. the marks on the case wiped right off, and when I puled the case off the phone was undamaged. the case protected the back glass perfectly.
Conclusion: I love this case. The color, fit, finish, details such as the buttons and the level of protection it affords without becoming obtrusive such as Otterbox or lifeproof are exactly what I want and expect in a case. It looks great on my phone, feels great in my hand, slides in and out of my pocket easily with out snagging. I would highly recommend looking into this case if your in the market for one.
Ill add pictures of it later, Im at work right now and cant post them from here.

Hey there schollianmj!
Thank you for your amazing and thorough review, we're happy to hear that you enjoyed our case! We definitely try to go for designs that are stylish all while withstanding getting hit with simunition. That's why we call it our Exec Tough case, because if it can't withstand getting shot at then what is a case good for, am I right? We're eager to see pictures, let us know when you have them up and once again, thank you for the review!

Review: Poetic Affinity case

Full disclosure: I was given this case for free, the vendor is seeking reviews. But, as I've said before, I will give an honest review of a free product regardless. People's feelings be darned.
Product arrived in a timely manner. Packaging was plain, I'm assuming it was non-retail. There were no markings or branding of any kind. No instructions, either. Not that they were really needed I guess, but I would assume that a retail purchase would be packaged, and not arrive in a plain padded envelope.
The case by itself looks, well, clear. Mine is clear with opaque rubber (TPU, Poetic calls it). I guess a model with black TPU is available. I don't want to sound like I'm bashing the case, because I'm not, but it is kind of unremarkable to look at. And I don't think that's a bad thing. After all, this case is designed to show off the phone, not just to show off. And that is apparent when it's actually on the phone. It hugs the shape of the device and doesn't compete for your attention.
The case is made of rigid plastic. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of hard cases, as I feel they can be rough on phones. But, the note 5 has an aluminum frame instead of the Standard issue Samsung chromed plastic. And there is clearish rubber around the frame as well as the lip that goes over the screen. It is along the sides as well. That made me feel better about it being a rigid plastic.
The case is one piece that pops in firmly but easily enough. Let me tell you, this baby is snug! And I mean that in a good way. Takes a little doing to get it out once it's in (again, I hope the retail packaging has instructions, in case there's some "trick" to it). But this thing really hugs the phone tightly. Solid fit. There is a very thin lip over and around the merest edge of the screen which holds the case on. It's a pretty impressive design, because the case basically clips onto the aluminum frame, leaving the entirety of the screen exposed. But there is no fear of the phone popping out of this case.
There is a slight lip that keeps the screen from coming in contact with the table when placed face down. A slight lip, but it is there, even with a glass screen protector on my phone.
It's made of clear polycarbonate with a clearish TPU on the corners, around the screen and in two raised rails running the long way down the back. It is comfortable in the hand, allowing the holder to feel the contours of the phone without adding bulk.
Along the sides, there are upraised ridges for grip. Which is good, because the smooth polycarbonate could feel a bit slippy if not for the TPU rails on the back, rubber around the lip of the case and ridges on the sides. This case has a good, reasonably grippy feel. Those who do not like the feel of smooth plastic against their palm may not dig it, but it feels pretty good to me.
The buttons are perfectly lined up, and very very clicky. One cool thing about the volume buttons: instead of being one big rocker style button for VOL up/down (many cases "join" the two buttons), the Poetic Affinity case keeps them separated just as the phone was designed. It looks sharp and deliberate, and provides some useful tactile feedback.
The TPU around the frame and the rails along the back ensure that your phone will stay put wherever you set it, which is nice.
The ports are almost all lined up perfectly (more on that in a sec). The SPen port seems wide open, which is pretty common for cases of this type. The bottom speaker, instead of being a cutout, is 8 holes drilled or molded or whatever into the case. They don't really line up with the actual speaker holes (at least in mine). But I have tried with and without the case, and I cannot tell any difference in the sound, so it doesn't seem to be a big deal. It isn't to me, anyway. But it will be to someone, which is really the only reason I mention it.
The clear polycarbonate gets smudged up with fingerprints in no time, I wipe mine frequently.
The combination of polycarbonate and strategically placed TPU seems pretty sturdy. I feel like my phone is adequately protected against day to day hazards. The case feels solid, complete and protective. The placement of the TPU seems designed to protect well against average corner drops or flat drops onto the front or back.
In conclusion, if you want a phone case that protects you from everyday hazards, and showcases as it encases, this is a good one to comsider. It is not at all expensive, and seems to offer protection that is definitely a cut above most "budget" cases I have seen. I have mentioned a couple of things that may give some people misgivings about this product (smooth plastic back, misaligned speaker holes), but for me neither of these things is a deal breaker, or even a significant concern. Your mileage may vary, etc. I like this case quite a bit.

I have noticed that the TPU gets a little dingy looking and is not easy to clean. I can't imagine that would be a problem with the black TPU, but I have the opaque TPU on mine. Still love the case, still using it, but if I were buying one, I would go with the black TPU.
Just got my poetic affinity case. It's very nice! Love it

My review of the Samsung Kvadrat case.

Feels really nice but doesn't have much or any drop protection.
Some pics from your amusement. Lower part of case where the usb port is , very thin flimsy silicon.
There is the same "problem" or "design specificity" with the "U" shape. I am referring to the the fact that the screen itself is only protected on the vertical bars of the U and not on the horizontal bar of the U (most likely due to the fact that the screen bends into the phone side).
Also it seems on the second picture that the bulge of the camera lens is still going out with your case?
Do you use a protection for that camera lens, like some glass cover or something?
Update on my review after a few days of usage. Pinky finger fatigue due to the sharp edge of the lower back material meeting the silicon tpu , it's raised and cuts into pinky finger.
5 out of 10. Not worth it.
Going back to my Ringke Air and Spigen thin fit , both offer slightly better protection but more importantly more comfortable to hold at around 70% less in price .

Take a look at the Bolt case. Been using it for my 10+ for over a year. My favorite case ever.
Doesn't add much bulk, easy to hold and in spite of half dozen plus drops on concrete shows no damage*. 2 layer composite or 3 layer if you use the clip on back; it's very well protected in that configuration.
*replace one out of concern of corner fatigue from repeated same corner hits. At $20 a pop better safe than sorry...

Lol, yeah. I don't notice that in actual use. It doesn't slip out of your hand easily.
I'm holding it by it's flip out stand as I pecked this out. A lot of ways to easily hold it.
Talking of death grips I have the Kyber 2 mountain boots which are great but they're a bear to lace up tight. Finally realized after straining a second first finger joint that the lace up was the cause. Damn finger strain hurts.
So I can see you crippling yourself with the wrong case

I might treat myself to one for educational purposes since I'm giving up smoking lol.
Don't worry, I cripple myself just cutting hedges lately .

I like cigars.
Good as long as you remember never to inhale... sometimes I forget, briefly

I'd only be kidding myself with a cigar or a pipe. I'd stopped for 8 years until last year.
Reference the Zizo bolt case, are the insides soft or hard plastic?

High density urethane. The last corner can be tough to put in. Fair warning: use care in this stage with a screen protector. Glass ones may not have clearance, not sure*. I use a piece of stretched teflon tape to protect the buttons and R/L side rails from dirt and make insertion easier.
Warming it in the sun etc may help... will try this next time.
Obviously you then the snap on polycarbonate back piece on last. This piece is stiff but almost impossible to break. Put the button side on first.
Button side is last when disassembling.
With the fold out stand: either leave it snapped in or use fully extended. The retaining pins can slip out if left loose in pocket. They can be put back in if not lost as I discovered one day. Otherwise it's surprisingly sturdy; I use it constantly.
*since it's urethane you can easily machine, cut, file, sand it if you need to but I recommend not to unless absolutely needed as that could reduce the level of protection.
Lol, it will be ok

What worries me, and it has done so since my using a hard inner plastic case in the past is damage to the frame of the device. Yes, dirt will cause this , but I regularly remove devices and dust out the frame and case. But with hard gizzarded cases I always seem to get micro marring or scratches on frames. Hence I've avoided them like a plague during the last 5 years.

It happens with soft silicon inner liners too
This really irritates me... to put it politely.
Therefor the teflon tape. It's a little tedious but it's cheap so you can practice.
No damage yet to my 10+ doing it this way.
I start just after the holes on the top, around the corner to as far as the first hole on the bottom.
I stretch it somewhat and try to keep it right below the screen. Same on other side but take the spen out them simply punch through the tape.
The stretch at the corners hold it in place.
It can get pushed out when putting on the case but that's just cosmetic. It can be pushed down but some while may show.
Seals it well from that damn grit.
If you have any better ideas, please share.

Yep soft silicon as its name implies contains silicon , one can clearly see the micro marring on high polished silver frames when using these.

It's a polymer based on silicon, it is no more abrasive than soft plastics.

It's actually the external grit that causes the marring. If you seal the surfaces completely from foriegn particles they will stay pristine.

I've seen silicon cases marring stainless steel frames, and these were cleaned before , however, the device and the case were placed in a grip like a car phone holder . Using tpu or other plastics didn't cause marring. I've ran tests as nerdy as it sounds
