[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab blank screen after flash attempt - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Please help. I tried flashing the Galaxy Tab with some firmware on samfirmware.com for North America and not sure what happened but now the Tab is completely blank and not responsive. When I connect the USB to the computer, it does recognize that the Tab is connected though. Please let me know what I should do to fix this. Thanks!!

Is it possible you flashed the wrong FW? After flashing was the tab able to reboot?
Try wiping cache and do a factory reset. Volume-up+powerbutton. You will see in the middle of the screen a little triangle. Then push the volume-up button again. Then you will be in the recovery-mode. There choose wipe/cache and the wipe-data/factoryreset.
If that not helps try flashing another FW. The Rot-hammer i.e.

Fixed it!
Actually, somehow I fixed it now. There was nothing on the display at all. I could see from Odin that it could sometimes try uploading the firmwares. What I think worked was I pressed the Home + Volume Down + Power to try to bring the Tab into download mode and then I pressed Start on Odin immediately to try uploading a different firmware. There was no display on the Tab itself so I was not sure if it was actually in download mode.
Anyway, I'm glad it's working fine now.

Can you please tell me what firmware you used?
The same thing happened to me, but the problem continues after trying several different firmwares.

please tell me what firmware you flashed...please im stuck and depending on what firmware i flash i can hear it start but still blank screen

Same black screen
I can get Odin to recognize my tab, windows 7 can see it and I can flash to it, but the screen is black all the time.
Has anyone had any luck?
What do samsung use to fix this? I've seen a repair/service program from ZTE for some of their devices that I believe was procured from an employee of ZTE. Maybe there is something like that around?
<edit>
I also flashed a rom from samfirmware, so I guess the issue is a locked bootloader from a stock rom. Anyone know how to fix this?

I too am having this issue with sawfiremware image.
i can can tell i am in download mode but i am unable to flash the EA24 firmware.
Anything that can be done?

Thank you!!
My Tab's screen won't turn on at all, even when plug-in, even that Odin said that flash was successful. But after connecting it to PC with Odin opened (Odin recognized it), loaded all files needed for flash in Odin, I pressed HOME+Volume Down + Power, the device auto-dismounted from PC, and reconnected again, I pressed start in Odin and after finishing updating firmware, the screen was working again.
Good luck to everybody! I'm happy now

what firmware did you use? thx

Hello Everyone, I'm from Nepal. I have also same problem after few days. I search in google and YouTube also but not solve my problem. then i use my technical ideas on SM T561 tab, and I'm Shocked its open and working properly. if you also want to do that plz download Miracle Thunder 2.82 and Odin. install Miracle thunder and open, connect your Samsung tab with pc or laptop, on Miracle Thunder choose Samsung button, scan you Samsung port, model> Auto detect, mode > download, then select factory reset and click Go and wait. now your tab download mode then go to Odin and flashing your Samsung tab original firmware from website and flashing your tab. 100% its work. Thank you and sorry for my poor English.

Bricked Galaxy Tab

Hi,
I did a big mistake and bricked my galaxy tab I guess.
What I've done:
- I rooted the device on stock firmware (XXJID)
- I tried to run the voodoo lagfix, afterwards i couldn't boot. Couldn't even start the recovery mode.
- I flashed the firmware(XXJID) with 909pit. -> No booting, just the samsung logo.
- I flashed a galaxy s firmware( I know that this was a very bad idea )

The only reaction from my tab is turning on the camera led for a few seconds if I hold the power button.
Odin3 still adds the sgt but flashing changes nothing.
I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
(In thread "density changer tool killed my samsung pad p1000 (solved)" are some more information. I cannot link, because I'm a new user)
Same here
Something similar here (I tried One click lag fix apk).
I tried flashing the same rom I had before but without success.
Now I have this message:
Can not mount / dev/block/stl10 (Invalid argument)
copy_dbdata_media: Can not mount DBDATE
Not Prepared your storage yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions
default copy....
I can enter Download mode but nothing more.
Anyone?
Thanks.

Does Kies connect when you are in download mode?
Have you tried to reinstall JHA firmware selecting re-partition?
Which pit file?

Kies starts when I connect the TAB then in does not find the TAB (I think was so also before). I've tried various firmware not JHA. Which pit file should I use?
Thanks
EDIT: I see that in this firmware there's hope: it contains dbdata.rfs. I'll try, but witch pit file?
This time is bricked...
Today it is not a lucky day!
Before trying to flash again I've decided to make a NAND Dump using odin.
Right in the middle my wife has powered off the computer (no comment). I didn't think it could happen during a dump, but... now:
- when disconnected the TAB is completely black
- when I connect the TAB to the charger I have a drawing of a phone and a computer with a "!" between
- when I connect to te computer the screen remain black and ODIN nor Kies find the connection
Any help?
Thanks
I give up...
It seems odin3 do nothing when I flash the device. I tried all three pit's with the JHA firmware.
In addition I can't dump the memory.
I think there is no hope anymore. Bring it back to MediaMarkt tomorrow. Maybe noone notices.

very sad to hear that.......i am very lucky that mine booted up without any problems.....
from arcaden's mediamarket u got the tab?
i am just now learning German....sorry...
Maybe there is hope.
I saw that the galaxy s firmware I used contains boot.bin and sbl.bin and no galaxy tab firmware I tried does.
I think the boot.bin is the problem. Maybe it can't start the initial sequence and therefore the tab doesn't start.
Does anyone have those files from galaxy tab?

hello guys,
any update on this bricking thread? received my tab today and work for 120min with the shipped firmware - then i decided to install the latest one from samfirmware....
after a big RED FAILD while flashing (mybe me fault, i used the repartition)...sinvce this no boot and or restore is possibe. tried the JID firmware with div. pit files (eur.pit, 909.pit, 816pit). with the 816 one the flashing works fine. the device is later not motivated to book- [email protected] the samsung logo...
anyone a idea hoe to bring back this expensive device.... any help highly appriciated....
Did you try the JHA firmware? It contains dbdata.rfs. Maybe this helps.
Is there no possibility to get the bootloader from a working tab? If there is a recovery mode to restore the system the firmware has to be still on the tab.
Maybe could someone search for it?

JHA should fix your problem. select repartition when flashing it.
then upgrade to the latest firmware without repartition and it should boot fine.
wow, you guys amaze me....this thing isn't even shipping yet in most of Europe and you have the things for 5 mins and you already bricking them hehe. Hope you manage to sort them all out.
On another note, I know the lagfix works for the Galaxy S phones, has anyone confirmed that this needs to be done on the Tab? Cos by the sounds of it there are a lot of issues when it's done and could be the cause?
hi guys,
successfully restored my bricked TAB - i'm back in business now....
flashing back to JHA with replartitioning and then flashing JID w/o replart. did the job... thanks to clubtech and Nype
acutally i'm on the JID (offical FW) - unfortunately the mail client does not jet support exchange 2010 SP1 (same problem I had on the galaxy s before upgradeing to JP6....
now I wanna try the JJ3 and JJ4 Tab firmwares from samfirmware.com !
anytime when I flash one of this images I get the RED ERROR...
anyboady installed one of this versions successfully? which .pit file I should use?

I envy you! I had the idea the JHA could resolve my issue.
Problem is now my tab is black... and the computer doesn't see it when I connect to the USB port.
I was making a backup while my wife has closed the power line. Now the tab display turns on only when it's powered by the charger displaying 2 icons of a phone and a computer (saying something like: ehi you turned off the computer while I was connected in download mode, I'm dead!).
Last hope I have, because I wasnt writing in the nand but only reading, is waiting to the battery to completely discharge to see if I can then reenter download mode. But how long should I wait before the battery goes down... (with display off, phone off, no wifi...)
Anyone has different ideas?
Thanks.

Hi,
That display icons you are thinking of a deda tab is completely fine as i have also got them but those are the same as the download mode.
you can flash the tab even in that mode and no need to wait until battery discharge...
just hold the volume down + power + home for around 2-3 minutes and let the tablet to switch off and the again hold the three again to enter the download mode with the same icons and flash in the normal way...
I'll try

Let's hope you are right! I had before too the icons, the difference was that the computer finded the tab.
I surely didnt wait 3 minutes holding the buttons pressed. And to turn it off I keeped pressed (maybe 30 seconds) only the power button. And I'll try as soon I will be home.
Another thing: is it necessary to press also the home key? Before the "brick" I entered download mode only with power + volume down
Thank you for your help

I tried to update my SGS to android 2.2 through kies wihtout puting my phone in to recovery mode. The firmware seems to be lost and the device cannot boot only give me a black screen with word samsung galaxy s GT I9000 wrote on it.
Iam very new in android devices please help me. I do not know what I should to do..
Mine did the same thing when I flashed with Kies.
Try this: Hold Volume UP, Home button and on/off button together until a screen with a few options appears. Select Wipe/factory reset from the list using the volume up/down button. Select ok and reboot. You will loose all your data but your phone will work again.

BTW You did the upgrade the right way. With Kies you don't need to go into recovery or download mode before flashing. Follow the previous posters instructions and if that doesn't work you'll need to search around here more, for other flashing methods or just to find out if your internal sdcard is dead.

So, this one contains a bootloader (Sbl.bin). maybe thats the cause of the problem. Still, I wonder why it started in the first place and then after some reboots it gets stuck. I tried different Kernels with no luck. Maybe I should try to flash a new bootloader? However, that could brick the device forever.

I have a very similar problem.
I flashed the [ROM] Roto JMI Pre-Rooted Firmware v2 [Feb 4, 2011], and got stuck on the Samsung Boot screen.
Now, I can't even get the Downloading mode to work. It opens fine, but Odin/Heimdall doessn't detect the Tab at all.
Hopefully, someone knows what's going on. If not, I'm taking it back to my carrier, and asking them to fix it (assuming they'll fix it).
Maybe this will help for the bootloader.
Its a bootloader patch. Please read thru the thread. Hope it helps.

Dont get what you mean by that. You cant get it to download mode but your tab start up fine?
Download mode = press vol down + power pn button.
As for odin/heimdall doesnt detect the tab it could be usb port (some reports in android development thread) or could be usb drivers.
As i need to switch usb drivers when i need to flash my tab & my dell streak.
Hope it helps to start you off.

I meant that I can get into Download mode, with the Downloading logo, but doesn't get detected by Odin. And it stays stuck on the Samsung boot logo if turned on normally. Can't get into recovery either.
Before I flashed the Roto ROM, Odin was working perfectly fine. I've been flashing other kernels and ROMs before. But now, the USB doesn't even seem to get detected. It's like nothing is plugged in. Can't even choose to install/uninstall old/new drivers.
I dont think it's the USB port, as I've tried to connect to Odin on 3 different computers, trying every available port on each. It's looking like the USB connector is just dead or something.
My tabs mainboard was broken, it was replaced and now it works again.

Same problem here man. I CAN get in to download mode. Odin recognize it normally. I CAN download normally. Look likes everything is normal, but after update it restarts, but hangs on Galaxy Tab Samsung logo. I've tryed everything with different firmware, custom-roms, hacking things, but with no success.
Can someone please help me?
Same problem here. My tab is stuck at samsung galaxy logo and until now, no one could provide an answer.
I flashed some ROM from samfirmware that must of locked the bootloader (JMF). Then I tried to flash JM6, JMA, JMC, JMK, JJ4, JJ7, JM5, JJ1, JID and almost all ROTO's. with and without pit files using ODIN 1.7. I also tried a stock ROGERS ROM (that i downloaded from this forum) using Heimdall. The tab always boots to samsung galaxy tab logo. I've done alot of reading in this forum and followed many flashing instructions but when applied, it doesn't work for me.
My main concern: is there still hope with the tab ? or it's gone forever.
Is there any specific order that i must follow when flashing ? ( ie, flash one specific ROM before another). The tab was canadian that was flashed to euro.
Thanks for reading my post.
the dbdata file is corrupted.
1) download this file

2) extract it
3) use Odin to flash it under the PDA option
-make sure repartition is UNCHECKED
-do not select any pit file
-leave everything else the same

oke i figured that much yesterday, when reading some topics, but wich rom do i need to use?? because i dont know how to root the tab because it wont boot ore is rooting not a must?
dude... get the latest 2.3.3 firmware...
you may check www.samfirmware.com to see latest firmware for your deivce. If you are in ASIA region, look for JPI edition. Its good, fast and stable.
Use ODIN to flash, with REPARTITION ENABLE... once complete flashing, reboot, and repeat the FLASHING again... DO IT TWICE..., but REPARTITION ONCE only...
Do i have to fully boot between flashing, or after first flash straight to download mode?

Im at your same state. My tab hangs on samsung logo and lets me to download alone. I can help you with the drivers part. Im sure you have the Kies in your system. Just push the on button and connect your phone to the pc and run Kies. You have an option to troubleshoot which will update the drivers for your phone. This worked for me. For the rest of the part, there is a chap who is helping me on this forum and he advised me to go for stock ROM. Ill try that today after sufficiently charging up my phone.
I ve been searching for a while now and looks like this is common and nothing much to worry about. Ill keep you posted on what happened on my attempt to odin flash the stock ROM.
Hello friend, my tab is back and working fine now. Hope tried connecting kies to get your driver up for the tab. Once its up you can get to the download and flash stock rom using odin. This would bring your phobe back to life.
I am currently running on overcome experience rom. Its pretty good and they have great instructions on their site. Try that you should be all set.
Best of luck.
I have the exact same issue. I've been trying to flash a Euro 2.3.3 for the last 5 hours. Anything special you did before I create a new thread? I've done this a billion times on my old tab....I just got this one today off ebay.

Can you be more specific on the state of your G-Tab?
What firmware were you using before the problem occurs?
if you are updating from proyo, you will need to flash dbdata.rfs. For your reference you can follow these following steps (given you can access download mode).

I doubt you will ever get Kies to work with custom ICS rom in your tab.

You have to try again to get it into download mode.
Use Odin for your device model and run it as administrator. If Kies is installed, kill all Kies processes by using Task Manager. Prepare the files under PDA etc. Pull out the battery and hold power button pressed for 1min. Then keep all buttons combo for download mode and insert the battery while pressed (needs some acrobacy skills). If the download mode starts, you can connect your phone and flash firmware again.
