So my HD2 headphones broken. Right earpiece won't work, but if i shake cable around 3.5mm jack a bit, it will start working for a moment and then back to silence. Also FM radio signal is very weak.
So i must get new ones. Now, should i get HTC ones or can i use any other headphones with working buttons and mic?
How do i know, what headphones are compatible with HD2 and have working mic and buttons?
If you need mic and buttons, you must get heaphones that has 4 pins in part that goes in the device.

Sorry, can't answer your question because I've never change it until now.
But a hint if you want to try it: there are different jack layouts, sometimes GND is on pin 3, sometimes on pin 4. I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly, Nokia and Blackberry headssets are just the other way round.
And together with the keys I'm afraid you need to buy an HTC replacement.
But perhaps, someone found a working replacement?

I'm using a bluetooth headset from ugh ugh "Nokia"
i tried the stock earpiece/mic (very good sound!!) that comes with the Nokia N900 but it crashes the HD2 so this seems to confirm the mixed up grounding pin.
But i also tried the stock earpiece/mic from the Samsung Galaxy Pad, which has a good sound too, and found it working perfectly.

OK.. I dont know alot about my PPCPE, and apparently I dont know enough to find a good head set for my phone. I know it is a 2.5mm jack is that not right? I have tried universal 2.5 mm and well some work some dont, some work if I dont push it in all the way, and some do. Crazy stuff..
Anyway, I find one that I really like. It looks like it will be perfect for my small little ear cavity. Does anyone know if this might work with the PPCPE/XDA device:

Curious but why will it not work? What is wrong about it? 2.5mm is the plug size right? Why does it seem that some of these 2.5 mm universals work and some dont?
I ask seriously because I am confused about it all. I have a 2.5 mm jabra that works currently, so I assumed another Jabra that is also 2.5mm should work as well.
Unless I am confused or missing some info I just dont understand.
Jabra Headset
Will not work, because the 2.5mm jack on the XDA is 4 pole, not three. The four poles support:
1. Mic +
2. Left ear +
3. Right ear +
4. Common ground
On the jabra set, which is mono, there is no 3rd ring on the plug. Inserting it into the xda shorts the right hand channel to ground, and when in phone mode (i.e. mono, not playing back .mp3's or whatever), the left and right hand audio channels are just connected together. Shorting the right hand channel wipes out your headset sound completely.

Sorry but something just is not right then. Because I have a regular Jabra headset, that uses the basic 2.5 universal adapter. I can use it with my XDA, and yes it is only 3 poles/2 rings on the jabra adapter.
Now granted the button to answer does not work, but I can hear just fine and speak just fine using it.
So, I am confused still. Your not the only one to say it will not work, heck when I bought it the guy said it would not work. But it does. And its not the only one I have like that that does work. I have also used a body glove headset that is a 2.5 universal adapter. So like I said I am still confused.
A universal 2.5mm headset should not work.

Many universale headset do not have answer/mute button. Even if they have, it may not work.
(2.5mm universal headset were originally produced for Motorola phones. Earlier models do not support answer/mute button)

As far as I know the X1 does not have TV-out capability.

Shame really because the TV-out function is bundled on the MSM7200A Qualcomm chip just like the other HTCs.
I wonder if they scraped it completely or if it is connected to the USB interface somehow (or the audio jack as I have seen other devices using it on TV-out with 4 rings on the 3.5 jack).

Don't quote me on this but I think the HTC video out cable (for the touch Pro at least) is proprietary. The Touch Pro has an odd USB port that has 4/5 connectors on the other side of the USB pins that the video out/headphones use.
Still, that means the TV out on the TP is still using the same connectors as the audio, so puts it in line with other devices with 4 ring audio connectors and TV out.
Im sure someone will figure it out. I would hook it up to one of these babys:

Yup, you are right about the proprietary connector for the HTCs.
So if TV-out exists on X1 it should be on the 3.5 audio jack.
Is there a specific program that HTC devices use for TV-out? Maybe someone could try to load that program on the X1 and insert a 4 ring tv-out jack in the audio connector.
I seriously doubt it will work out, but testing won't do any harm.
Maybe this image could help, myself, i'm not sure if ther's three or four "pins".
if the connector is normal miniUSB then thats no option for tvout unless
the device support usbHost which as far as i know it dont (could be wrong though)

It definitely seems to have more rings than a usual 3.5 stereo audio jack but I can't be really sure.
Here you can see a normal audio jack.

If we could just get the TV-out application from Touch Pro, then someone could try with it, i think i have one 4-5pin 3.5" video-out cable here somewhere.

I tried to launch the HTC TV app, but i could'n get it to work. Maybe there are some registry keys that i need to modify first, but i don't know which.
LOL, also i realized that there is more than 3 pins to the 3.5" jacket, there must be additional pins for the microphone to work.
Unless there's a possibility to use some pins as both microphone and video-out signals we're stuck here... I have to admit i'm getting the feeling of this beeing the case.

Which microphone? Why have a microphone pin on the "line-out" audio jack?
Except if you mean that the X1 audio connector can accept wired hands free.
EDIT: Ok I think we are screwed. If the X1 can be coupled with 4 pin 3.5mm audio jacks wired hands free kits then TV-out is a no-go. I haven't seen any 5 ring 3.5mm jacks and even if there are, it would be a long shot.
It can accept wired hands free- look at the hands-free that comes with it. I would love Tv-out, but i'm almost positive its not included.

Regardless of whether registry keys exist and regardless whether the chipset has this feature, the hardware does not exist to do it so it cant be done. Perhaps if someone opened up thier X1 and soldered in the miniUSB jack from a touch pro and found the necessary pins for video out it would be posible. But as it is it cant be done. It requires a hardware mod, not software. Anyone with lots of cash and a touch pro and an xperia to spare?

This is a really good question. I would really like to use this control unit with my own headphones...
I'm new to the workings of the RC E100.
Could some kind soul please explain the connections for this item?
If I'm reading this correctly, does it connect directly into the micro USB port (with adapter if it works) but how does it then pick up the Music/Phone call data if it is not connected to the Audio Jack (or is it a split connection with one to the USB port & one to the 3.5 Audio Jack)?

I don't think it will work, because the mini USB cable from the RC E100 has a special configuration (cable/pin). So i think that a convertor won't work.

I am searching a couple of days to a wired handsfree headset with music control for my HTC HD2. Unfortunately, i cannot find one, besides the original included by the phone, wich doesn't support exchangeable earphones.

I asked htc support if rc e 100 would work with mini to micro adapter and they told me that it won't been working correctly.
They also told me that something comparable to rc e100 won't be in sail soon for micro usb devices.

This is a JOKE. I have the HTC desire, and the headphones that come boxed are horrible. When you finally fit them in your ear they hurt after 5 seconds. Why would you not have a socket in the damn media control bit? Every Nokia phone i have ever had comes with this basic feature.. allowing you to connect your own ear buds to the multifunction remote control.
so in this case, I’m going to have to cut up the headphones that came with the desire and attach a 3.5 socket, allowing me to connect my sennheisers and giving me the ability to control the music player /sigh GG htc. you build a sweet phone but gimp its audio playback all because u didn’t want to spend the 1 cent it would have cost to put a socket in the damn headset attachment, and not even bothering to offer an accessory.
I should point out that the headset that comes with the desire is not micro usb, but rather a 3.5 plug. It allows play, pause, skip, answer and has a mic.
I am going to jump on the bandwagon on this one too and comment on how disgraceful it is that accessories aren't interchangeable and that nothing similar is being devised for the newer generation of phones. The headset is one of the failing features of HTC units and a good quality remote would be the answer to just let people use whatever IEMs, heaphones they want.

I may even go and experiment if HTC added some not-yet implemented resistorvalues for a future remote control, as I did do some checks and it seems the remote on the standard headphone is a simple resistor network like e.g a Sony RM-X4S (search for panuworld and RM-X4S to see a schematic) caraudio wired remote. I wouldn't put it past them to actually have the volume-control resistor values programmed into the HD2, but simply not implemented in any accessory yet.

(last I looked that wasn't solved yet either, but I've been ill so didn't actively look for a couple of months, that's also the reason I didn't get into the wired remote resistor values any further. BTW, this thread is old, and there is a micro-phone 3.5mm input super simple remote available, but it does less than the OEM headset apart from you being able to plug in your own headphone. HTC HD2 Audio Adaptor for 3.5mm to 3.5mm HS U350 (with Stereo Headset + HTC Logo, Retail Pack) for 21 € That's more money than a RC E100 with a LOT less functionality: good call HTC

Maybe the following idea is totally nonsense, please let me know if I'm wrong:
The RC e100 apparently uses the extendedUSB version of miniUSB.
Does anyone know if the HD2's micro USB provides extendedUSB functionality as well?
Can anyone provide a circuit diagram to modify a mini to micro usb adaptor or cable 'USB-Adapter - 5-polig Micro-USB Typ B (M) - Mini-USB, Typ B (W)' to use the extendedUSB functionality of HD2 for the RC e100?

Took quite a while for me to test, but using an RM4-XS (or something) does NOT work on the inputs of the HD2/Leo. So it seems the resistor values of this Sony car-audio remote do not trigger any 'hidden' functions, so it is likely the OEM remote on the headphone is all the functionality you are going to get.

Sorry about the earlier response. I hadn't seen that the remote controls the phone via 3.5mm jack. I don't think it'll work, as the X1 doesn't work with similar iPhone remotes, but we won't really know until someone tries it...
Not working
Well, I took a chance and bought this headset. Unfortunately does not work. The buttons do not respond and the sound is very bad. Only helps to keep the middle button so that the sound was as it should.
Of course it is new, not broken headset.
My ROM: 826x, released on April 10th.
I know its cause the 3.5 jack is too long.. but i dont exactly know what to do..
Im just plugging my phone into the A/V source on the headunit.. and using my Slacker account for internet radio...
The input cable is RCA coming from the headunit to 3.5 jack on the other end plugged into the headset part of the HD2...
It will work for a while.. then find a reason to short and soft reset the phone.
Here is what i DO know.. .
Slacker works fine when i use it with any of my headphones...
the headphone jacks plug in all the way.
The jack in the car fits fine but doesnt go in all the way.

So i know i need an adapter.. or should i just shoot for a whole new RCA/3.5 cable... either way is fine... but i want to know WHY one is longer than the other so i dont just reorder the same problem.. is there a name for it?

This happened to me,
what i did was take my original headphones and headed to the electronics store and compared the size of the jack with the headphone jack size and also made sure i bought properly insulated kinda expensive but high quality monster cable.
Now it works like a charm. I dont know why some jacks differ in sizes. Hope this helped.
