Bloatware Help - Dell Streak 7

Which bloatware can i remove without causing any issues?

Any apps that came preloaded are fine to remove...don't remove any system type apps. Anything from a 3 rd party (blockbuster, etc) is fine to remove.

Yes, but only if you have an alternate Launcher...like ADW / LauncherPro / Go Launcher etc.
Best thing to do is try Titanium Backup App...freeze stuff you want to remove, and see if there are any issues. If not, then uninstall them.

[Q] Need Screen Capture Help

I used to rely on Shoot Me for my screen shots, and have used dropcap2 in the past, but on the streak 7, they both produce nothing but black images. dropcap2 has the option to swap endian, which I have done, for both png and jpg. I have also tried png and jpg in ShootMe, as well as high and medium quality, png and jpg, in both apps. No joy.
Im using a custom rom, Dell Streak 2.2.2 update with FULL ROOT, and having issues getting StreakDroid on my device. If this problem is a symptom of my flashing problems, then I will figure that mess out, but I need to know if this is a Streak 7 problem, or a "Keiths done screwed up his Streak 7 rom problem". Will someone please try both these apps on their streak 7 and report success/fail, and indicate what rom your using? At this point I dont know if its the rom or the device. If its the device, screen caps are important enough to me that I will have to get a different tablet. I reeeeeeeeeealy hope its a rom issue, or something that has a solution so I can keep using my streak 7.
Thanks
Keith
I use screenshot it on my Streak 7 without any issue. Not sure if your issue is the ROM or the app.
njdev1k, can you install shootme and drocap2 and try them for me?

[Q] What can I delete?

There are only certain default functions I use on my Galaxy S.
For example, I only use the Gmail App and not the Built in Samsung Email App.
I would like to remove the default email app but is it safe to do so!
There are other things like the Samsung Memo App. I want to remove this as I only use Evernote for all my notes.
Can these built in Galaxy S apps be removed safely without affecting the phone.
Both of those apps are safe to remove
I tried to find an uninstall button but can't find it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You have to remove it with Root Explorer or similar apps.

HC lag?

I just got my Dell streak and its the wifi only. Ever since I did the update my DS7 lags after ten minutes. I have to reboot it just to get back to normal. Its not rooted but I have tried but know joy. Any advice?

noticeable lag on djsteve R7 (official Dell release, so I imagine stock is bit sluggish too). I went back to HS R6 and scrolls fast menus, screens and webpages..
very nice.
I take it ur device is rooted? Is it a pkg or a zip file.

correct device is rooted running dj steves honeystreak R6 ROM. smooth as butter.

May I offer as a suggestion to try the script mentioned in this rather long XDA thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
The script changes the settings used by the underlying Android memory manager. I found it quite useful under 2.2 and just as helpful under honeycomb. I most like that it makes the launcher "hard to kill" which is great. I hardly ever leave an app and go back to the launcher to just sit and watch as it reloads. You have no idea how much better that makes it feel when I'm using my streak.
Thanks to whomever suggested trying this script in a previous thread here.

And will drastically change the behavior of your device.. And this has nothing to do with his problem, he's talking about some weird lag that happens after he boots, not a problem this script would "help".
I tried this script on my Nexus One, as I tend to do a lot of stuff at once, and it did nothing but annoy me. I never have launcher kill problems, so perhaps it's just not for me.. but I found that apps I could normally run simultaneously would be killed when I went back to them.
Example, running Car Home, Waze, and Gas Buddy on my trek to work. On top of the normal stuff running.. Normally Gas Buddy will be left in the background and I can bring it right back up, but after several different settings in this script it was always killed. Not to say this isn't a good thing for some people but it works better for me without it.

You don't have to root, it comes prerooted...
All you have to do is flash the Clockwork Mod recovery for Honeycomb which is 4.0.1.9 if I remember correctly (it has it's own thread) and then download the R6 HoneyStreak (R7 is buggy on mine that is why I suggest R6) and you flash it from Clockwork mod...
And the script is junk, it has been stated in several threads that the most it does is help the Launcher to an extent, the memory from the custom ROMs on the Streak 7 and Streak 5 conflicts completely with the script, all you get is a placebo affect once installed
Thanks for all the support. Now I just need a bad ass custom ROM to go on too of it.

ASUS Keyboard 3.0.0.0

There is an ASUS keyboard in 4.1.2 but it is hidden. In order to show it:
REQUIRES ROOT AND TITANIUM BACKUP
1.Launch Titanium Backup
2.Go to Backup/Restore Tab
3. Unfreeze Asus Keyboard 3.0.0.0
4. Go to Language and Input and check ASUS Keyboard
5. Change input method to ASUS Keyboard
6. Enjoy!
EDIT: I am using 4.1.2 rooted stock rom.
Which ROM are you running? I don't see this at all on Bugless Beast 4.1.2.
Hmmm... I defrosted it in TB, but it's still not showing up in the language & input section.

I was wondering about this. I saw it in titanium after updating to 4.1.2
Never even thought about unfreezing to try. Nice xD

Thanks to the OP. I saw the Asus 3.0 keyboard awhile ago, but don't know to activate it. Now I can see it now and it's much better than stock with extra # row.

It didn't show up for me also after defrost. But this is it what I do after that, I make a TB backup and un-freeze Chrome then it show up.
Looks like a terrible keyboard anyway.. I'd smash my Nexus 7 by the 5000th time I pressed zero to backspace, or backspaced by accident while hitting enter.. Terrible design.
The keyboard did not show up for me. And Titanium Backup says the app is frozen again after a reboot.
Thanks. Using it now. MUCH better than stock. Its the same keyboard that is on my Asus TF300 and it makes switching between the two tablets easier to have everything in the same place.

Same here. I give up on this. I'll just keep using Swype xD.

I got the same thing too (didn't show up in Input Settings), but after some weird combination of doing things, it magically showed up.
Here's what I *think* triggered it:
-Unfreeze as per OP's instructions
-Open up an app that has an editable text field (I used Dolphin Browser)
-Click on the text field
-Swipe down on the Notification Bar and tap Choose Input Method
It was at this point that my N7 stuttered for a bit. Took a while for the keyboard switcher to display (the ASUS Keyboard wasn't a choice), but when I went back to Language & Input Settings, it was there and I didn't have to reboot.
Your millage may vary, but I'm using it now.

Thanks.
Thanks for the find. Defrosted correctly and works great. Much better than stock.

Just curious, are you guys using the free version of Titanium Backup or the Donate version?
Because with the free version I tried to re-freeze the app so I could try unfreezing again and it told me, "Sorry, apps can only be frozen/defrosted in the Donate version." It gave me no such message when I unfroze it, though.

Donate version. It is so worth the price. It is one of the best tools for a flashaholic.

That would be kickass, at least I know that I can restore my device successfully, because I just had to due to trying a new odexer app, note to everyone... don't use it on kindle fires, called kuban's odexer, I think.

Well xspose I can get to work, is kickass to mod the dpi app by app, but does not enable download through play store, or I cannot get it to work. And market helper is awesome, when you visit the proper page at play.google.com. The app itself seems to send to dashboard, but you must go to devices under orders and devices, and works using the website AMAZINGLY!! Thanks for the tips...
