[Q] Lost cover for USB port - need replacement - where to buy? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
the cover for the USB port of my HTC Dream /T-Mobile G1 became loose. The little plastic cable that holds it to the phone ripped but I still had it - I planned to glue the cover back to that plastic cable thing.
Unfortunately I lost that cover now. I was searching the web (including ebay) for replacement but even if I bought a complete housing they'd come without that little plastic cable holding the USB cover.
Does anybody know where to get replacement? By the way I would like to know where to get good (high quality) tools for opening the housing without breaking it.
I appreciate your help.

You would probably have to buy a broken phone and hope that the cover is still intact. While I managed to maintain that cover on mine, I did find it highly frustrating. Many people actually PREFERRED to rip it off. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to replace it, since that cover really is quite redundant. You won't hurt anything by not having it.

Yes, you're right somehow, it is redundant. It looks a little ugly, though. Maybe someone can still point a way to that cover

2 bricked G1's for sale on ebay for parts:

Thank's for the ebay link. I am already bidding on some broken phones on ebay.de. though. I though was hoping to find that cover as a sparepart somewhere.

Replacement cover for the XDA

Hi,
My XDA fell out of my top pocket the other day and has now got a big dent in the cover. Can anyone tell me where I might buy a replacement cover preferably in the UK without having to send it away to O2 and be charged £75 for the privilage?
Spare O2 cover
Hi there,
I have an almost new 02 frontcover for you.
All the buttons in place of course.
Would this help?
Best regards,
Murk
Murk,
Thanks for the reply, but the whole case is a bit sad now, so I am really after a complete new (or as-new) case.
If you don't mind having it look like the T-Mobile XDA, just browse eBay and look for a Dummy T-Mobile XDA ($10-15US). Then take the dummy apart and your existing XDA and eventually swap the cases (front & back).
It takes a little bit of time taking it apart and transferring the mic/speaker/vibrate device/battery - but it's easy, just have to be careful and smooth.
Also, some folks say that the dummy phones are cheap plastic.... well, the case is identical to the original T-Mobile XDA so dispell that myth.
I just did this 'operation' myself today and now have a brand new looking XDA (I had the infamous paint peeling case. Couldn't get it replaced since I had it RAM upgraded).
Front and Backcover
Hee Angus,
It seems my first relpy did not make it.
I have a complete case for you.
I would prefer to hold on the backcover as the battery is in there.
But if you want it I could provide them to you with or without the
battery.
Let me know.
Best regards,
Murk
Do have a spare vibration motor? I really need one, mine broke.

Battery Cover

I know this belongs in accessories but I believe the more people will see it here.
Click here if you want to buy a battery door.
The point of forum separation is to keep things organized. It doesn't matter if more people will see it here, it's the wrong section.
Thanks, that could be a very useful site!
Lol "OEM"
Moved to accessories.
darn they're out of stock. Was thinking of picking up 1 for myself since I scratched mine.
I can't wait for them to come back in stock. Great find.
You sir are the man.
That **** scratches so easily.
thank you for that! now i can save on the back case and just buy a new cover
maybe one of the only pros for Samsung making such a cheap door. :\
I actually got three before they were out of stock an sold two an kept one. These things scratch so dam easy its almost not even worth gettin a replacement cover cause itll be scratched as well in no time. I even put a zagg on the back as soon as i got it an when i took it off to put a bestskinsever on it still had some fine scratches on it an i baby the **** out of this phone, so the only reason i can see spendin more money on a replacement is if i cracked the cover or something
I will buy some once they are in stock.
I will be ordering too once it's back in stock. Already have 2 fine scratches on the back after keeping the "stock" clear plastic cover packaging thingy for over 3 weeks. The scratches came from me wiping the back from the oil in my skin with a lens cleaner. UGH.
But curious, the battery cover has that antenna. I wonder if this OEM cover will have it, my guess it won't. And if it doesn't, I suppose we have to remove the antenna from the old cover?
They have they antenna in them

Yeah, seriously why would these not have them. They're OEM.
I want one. Since people have 3... Be sure to list an extra on ebay for those of us that can't get the stock I'd also like a new bezel... Lol. It has some slight imperfection 'mini' chips but I guess I could try sanding it? Lol

I would assume so as well. But I have bought OEM parts (for the G1) and when they specify back case, it's just the back case. No cushioning foam or whatever that was attached to the one that came with my phone.
But I just checked the additional pictures and it does show the NFC antenna. Good thing. Just hope they actually ship as that.

Anderdroid, I believe the thread is for the back (battery) cover and not the fascia (bezel). I checked the site and there is no listing for what you're looking for.

Oh yeah I know it's about the battery cover. I need one of those too.
I thought Samsung would have done something similar like they did with the Galaxy S give a spare one with maybe a different colour, or just a spare, I honestly don't know where you could buy these from Google themselves, because this is very much vital to the NFC feature to work, if you break it then you NEED a new one, and one from China might not work the same. These might be OEMs, but it's better than nothing.
Good News : Nexus S OEM Back Battery Cover
Hello folks,
I know we have all been wanting to protect our Nexus S, especially the back battery cover.
I have been searching...and finally found this one site that was selling, but they were out of stock for some time. Recently they changed the status to be available sooner or later than Feb 14th 2011.
This is great news, and thought i will share it with you guyz.

[Q] GPS hardware gone bad on HD2

Hi all,
My HD2 running HyperDroid v12 from Pongster is a dream phone. Everything is working excellent except recently I got the digitizer changed from a local shop here in LA and in the process of fixing the digitizer the idiot seems to have ruined my GPS related hardware (which obviously he is not owning up to). I tried all sorts of software remedies (including changing ROMS) but nothing seems to get a GPS lock.
My questions is -
Is there any way to buy and replace the GPS receiver in the phone?
Thanks
The guy might have accidentally removed the connection from the circuit board, I remember seeing threads from before of other's doing the same thing when fixing the digitizer.

Any recommendations on what tools to buy to open my HD2? Any schematics on what the gps antenna would look like? Coudnt find similar threads for HD2...

They tell you what you need, and instead of the "flat plastic stick", a guitar pick should be fine.
- No need to remove speaker from housing.
- Ignore everything from 1:47, and look at 3:22 from the disassembly video, instead of removing the gps coaxial cable, check if it's actually connected properly, if not, just push it in.

I'll try and find those threads I remember reading, in which the OP and other members had the same problem after replacement of digitizer.

Hi Moon,
I followed the steps in the videos you provided and opened my HD2. The GPS coaxial cable seems to be fit in snug, which I guess is indicative that the GPS antenna itself may have gone bad somehow. Possible?
I did a little searching and found this link where I can buy an antenna from -
http://www.gsm4world.us/oem-htc-hd2-t8585-gps-antenna-board-flex-ribbon-cable-d-03752_579.html
That said, I am not too comfortable trying to replace it by myself. Any chance anybody knows a person/shop in the LA area who may have expertise in such jobs? The one I found in Glendale (CellularDR) is the reason this has happened so I'm not too keen on re-visiting them.
Thanks again for all the help!
Can't you get a separate external GPS receiver and bluetooth it?
It kinda beats the purpose of havnig a all in one device, plus you need to always watch 2 batteries and not just one . But, I must say it is the safe option and worth considering.

New back housing w/antennas
I had to replace the back housing on my phone as it broke (it looked like the plastic had deteriorated), and the new one comes with all 3 antenna attached, and a new battery cover for less than US 20.00. I have better reception now on all 3 radios, and the phone looks new again. If your have to take it apart anyway, why not replace the whole back? I got it from these people, eBay item 350487086071, but there are tons out there, and it was dead simple. Unscrewed the four screws, used the plastic piece to pop the snaps, and that was it.
YMMV, but for only 20, you can rule out the antennas if nothing else.

Replacement Parts for Back Cover

In a nutshell I have this today:
It's my first day with my phone. I cannot use any case because in my country (Turkey) it's impossible to find any cases. I bought some but they will be delivered at least 1 month ago.
So is there any-where to find a replacement part for my back cover? I asked it to Oneplus itself but they told me that they don't sell spare parts. I looked into ebay but there's not any of it.
I know it's not a big thing but I have a big OCD problem. And it looks like a disaster to me.
ANy help will be appreciated.
I've seen many parts on eBay for OnePlus 3 but no replacement back cover yet. They have everything else though like front glass, vibration motor, battery, antenna, speaker, camera cable.

Ouch, I feel your pain dude.. I would suggest maybe covering it up with a skin for the time being and when they do start making replacement backings eventually, get one then..
two months ago, seen at Aliexpress, price was around 70$, but now item is not available. Just contact with CS and ask how much they will charge for back housing replacement at RMA.

Try one of these in the meanwhile. I'm sure you'll find a combination that suits your style!

Im sure trying to replace it on your own will cause more damage to the device because you can mess up adhesives, screen, other internals & etc
And when they say they dont sell parts it means you will endup with a cheaper manufactured backcover that is not even original. Just keep the device as it is those two dots shouldnt bother you
I'll bough 2 original cases. I think it will be ok when I get them.
By the way on the teardown videos of OnePLus 3 it looks pretty easy to remove the back cover. No adhesive or something. Just removing the bottom screws will do the job.
Man, i had the absolute same problem. When i unpacked my OP3, the charger fell out of the xox and hit the phone on the absolute same place on the bezel
I sold mine on ebay the other day and ordered a new one.
it's really simple to disassemble op3. two screws, and back cover is removed. no glue, ect.

I know I'm late here but how do you guys suggest it would be possible to produce fake back housings at the price they are charging for them? I mean how many people would realistically buy parts exclusively made for one device, and an oneplus 3 at that? A few thousand people at most? If this is the case I don't think it would be financially viable to make any sort of production line for these parts. Aside from stealing original ones from the factory, or mabye defective ones I don't see how they would produce such a limited quantity for so cheap unless they are originals? Any insight?
There are many options for the back cover. The back on my Oneplus 3 was damaged but not as bad as yours. I was planning to replace my back but all i had was a tiny scratch so it wasn't worth it. I will change it when my back is really messed up. When you search for the cover on ebay just search for battery cover You can tell most fakes as they don't have the oneplus logo and for a different colour, try to get one with the sim card tray. Try to get a cover near Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangdong that's where the Oneplus headquaters is. There's also a midnight black cover as well!
