Love your bezel? Hate cases? - Droid Incredible Accessories

Why buy a slim, light phone, and slap a giant case on it? For that matter why did htc make the camera bezel stick out past the back of the case, so it gets damaged when you lay it down?

As a zero dollar remedy, I pealed a foot off my keyboard, restuck it under the camera bezel and viola! This one has been on my phone for two months now, and the last one lasted about six months. It keeps my camera off the table when I lay it down, and even prevents some glare from the overhead lighting. No damage to the case or camera, and no added bulk.

awesome! I personally would never do it but that's a cool idea

Weird move by HTC imo. Nice mod, something simple so i might try it.

Dig it... Had I not already popped for my feather, I probably would have gone this route myself. Just can't stand putting such a svelte device into a behemoth case. For that matter, I feel the same way about screen protectors. /end rant

Shameless self bump.

I thought this was about the actual phone bezel when I read the title, cool idea though. I've always hated cases since most of the time they're bulky and ugly. I bought the phone I have because I liked the way it looked, why would I want to wrap it in something that hides all of that? I usually just take great care of my phone until it gets its first decent size scratch then I just say the hell with it and care about protecting it less. That's why I loved my OG Droid, I could beat the hell out of it and it would still look fine!.

I agree. The OG droid was a beast. This "mod" also fixes the wobble you get if you try to use the phone flat on a table.

Amazing hack.
If anyone else was interested in doing this and was looking for something less.... drastic... these clear feet would be perfect! (10 cents)
http://www.westfloridacomponents.co...+Rubber+Feet+Small+Bumpers+9.5mm+X+3.2mm.html

My bezel still looks brand new and I "carelessly" put it bezel down wherever I go. Now if some people put it onto the street asphalt then you're just.... yea.
And with your analogy why hunk another piece onto the back of it?

My bezel still looks good too, but I would cringe every time I heard it hit the desk. It is such a cool looking part of the phone, I'd hate to scratch it up.
This is clearly not for everyone. It did help me out, and I thought I'd share it in case it might help anyone else.

I think it is actually smart for manufacturers to let the camera protrude slightly from the back of the phone. Cameras have a minimum thickness that can't be avoided, but by keep the rest of the phone slightly slimmer (or as slim as possible), users can add a case without significantly changing the overall thickness of the phone.
If the camera were flush with the back of the phone, the entire phone would need to be thicker to allow it (of course, they could squeeze in a bigger battery).
The devil's advocate argument is that that manufacturers want phones that feel as thin as possible in your hand, even if they have to make parts of the device thicker for the camera (resulting in phones shaped like the Droid X).

Amen to that. I love my 8 megapixels.

Almost immediately after receiving my Nexus 7 from the Google I/o I went to Best Buy and found a belkin case that is meant for kindle fire and work perfectly with our nexus 7. The problem however is that I noticed 3 days later the black from the inside of the case was leaving marks on the white back side of the nexus 7. I tried everything possible to get the marble falls off the back side what was only able to reduce the darkness by very little. So I went to best buy again and found a zagg screen protector for the Toshiba Thrive for only $12.
I used a tape measurer to measure the distance from where the white meets the black on the left side to the where the white meets the black on the right side. I did the same thing for the top and bottom. I took my measurements and using a NEW(VERY IMPORTANT TO GET A CLEAN CUT) razor, I cut out a rectangle that was the exact(well almost) siz of the back of my device.
Next I used my girlfriends small but sharp manicure scissors, or whatever they are called, and rounded the edges of my rectangle to match the edges of my device the best I could. The results were pretty good.
The last thing I did was cu out all the little areas where the buttons needed to be. I did this by marking it first on the Zagg then used the razor and little scissors to cut out the pieces..
You will see from my pictures that the backing is anything but perfect, but for doing it myself and for only 12 bucks, it was well worth it to keep this Beautiful device clean.. Hope this helps someone.
WHETHER YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS OR NOT, MAKE SURE YOU COVER THE WHITE BACKING IF YOU KEEP IT IN ANY CASE AT ALL OR THE CASE WILL RUB OFF ON THE WHITE. YOU CA SEE FROM MY PICTURES WHAT HAPPENED TO MY DEVICE BEFORE INSTALING THE ZAGG.

Nice project and all but why didn't you put the protector on the part of the case that was marking it up instead of putting it on the back of the nexus?
Obviously that was the first thing I thought of dong. But I found that although the case might be worse than others as far as leaving marks on the white part of the Nexus, the backing material stains incredibly easily. I mean its White.. And its Rubber.. That should be reason enough to cover it, so that's what I did. If you have a Nexus 7 you know what I talking about.

I never assume common sense from anyone, if you know what I mean. I can imagine, I've had white sneakers before its probably similar in that is shows every scuff. I don't know I just think putting that Skin on the back kind of defies the reason it came with the back like that and looks a bit tacky IMO, but I guess the protection is worth it.

iBallz drop protection

http://www.iballz.info/
I've had these iBallz since my first iPad. They went on my iPad2, Transformer TF300, and now I have them on my Nexus7. They are the original size iBallz... I see on the website they have a 'mini' version for smaller tablets... might have to check those out as I get a lot of use out of these.
I am an eBay seller so this tablet gets around to yard sales, thrift stores, all over my garage and more. I am constantly setting it down somewhere dirty. The iBallz keep the tablet off the surface I am setting it on. I gave my iPads and the Transformer the 'drop test' with these and the iPad's come thru like champs. The Transformer (same size as iPad, also made by ASUS) survived the fall from about 4 feet high straight down to the ground but it did a reboot. I noticed no further issues besides the reboot.
Since the 7 is also made by ASUS i'm assuming something similar will happen but with all the screen lift scare I'm not going to intentionally try the drop test on the 7. I'm sure it will get an accidental drop sooner or later and I'll update this when it happens.
The strings give an added support that feels nice when you slide your hand in between the elastic band and the pad it feels more secure in your hand- less likely to slip out of your hand. The balls are great to hold on to when laying down on your back on the couch or bed watching videos or surfing..
All the balls are clear of any outer buttons, although the top right one almost hovers over the power button- but not enough to prevent usage of the button but very close to it. I'm sure the mini balls they sell will be even better.
Thats all my thoughts on it so far- I've only had the iBallz on the 7 for a couple days now as I just got this tablet. I'll update this more if I see any more insight on it.

It's interesting and clever, but the price is kinda steep for what is basically Nerf balls and string.

Also, thats kind of a cool idea. Not cosmetically as nice as a case, but provides some real drop protection. I may have to check out them mini balls.

That I can understand but they are more like form fitting foam (very solid foam but still cushiony) that is precision cut to fit. I guess if someone is so inclined they could make them but I don't think the majority are these kind of people.
For the price I paid ($25) I have gotten quite a few years of use out of them on several devices.

I see what you did there. This is the first time I've ever seen something like this. I agree it is a little steep for $2 worth of nurf balls.
OMG
Not sure what to think about having balls on my tablet. Guess nice drop protection unless your ball's fall off.
That system might work, but honestly, I'll risk dropping it. I couldn't even give a reason without making it sound like an insult...so I'll just say it's not for me...

Slight Design Change in RMA Nexus 4

I have one of the original N4's when they were released, yellow screen and defective charger. I got an RMA N4 and it looks like they added little nubs to the bottom. Just an FYI

Interesting touch, and very smart actually given how many people had their backs crack just from temperature variations on whatever surface they put their Nexus 4 down on. Hopefully that lifts the glass off any surface a bit. Flip side is that looks like it'd be a fitment problem for most cases on the market already.
It's not to cool down the glass, is to keep free the sound from the speaker that was getting blocked when you had the device on a flat surface.

They probably have a whole variety of reasons. IMO raising the speaker off flat surfaces would be a perfectly good reason because it's completely muffled when you put the phone down on its back. They wouldn't change the hardware just for that, but it'd certainly help.

Torx screw you mean.
And going back on topic, if the phone is flat on the table the gap could increase air flow for better cooling and increase the volume too.
Its REV 11, Production date 02/2013 made in Korea. i'm in the US and It still fits perfectly fine in the LG Bumper. The photo is little confusing it was taken with my original N4 with a macro lens. the hole is the torx screw on the bottom.
Awesome! I ordered an RMA last night, should be receiving it sometime this week.
My Nexus 4 died on me Sunday night. Red light of death
Watch as dozens of people cry about their phones not having this, and then come up with excuses why they need to rma their device.

So I went crazy and changed my Note look..

Too many problems with the Note 4's hardware. Scratches, blacked out bezels, dents, more scratches... Polishing was (and still is) a temporal fix for the scratches, but what about the dents? the unpainted parts?. A friend of mine dropped my naked Note 4 to a hard, concrete floor face down and... what was his best choice to lift it up? Grabbing it softly from the floor? Neh.. he put his feet on it and dragged it to his position, then lifted up. Luckily, after yelling at him like for 15 minutes, I've looked at the screen at direct sunlight and it was fine and wasn't scratched at all, only the white bezel between the screen and the chromed chamfered bezel was heavy damaged, the white paint went out, it looked horribly bad. I went to my house, and started to "unpaint" (I don't know the proper word in english) the white coat to see the chromed metal behind it with scissors and polished it to remove the scratches produced by them. Result? Not much difference. It looks like a Note 3, but metallic. After that I saw that the back cover was scratched too so I thought: Why not? Polished it too. The pictures speak by themselves:
This is the part that I "unpainted":

(There's a bit of paint left, I'm trying to rub it too without scratching the bezel too much.
Glossy, glossy reflections everywhere
Looks pretty neat for me. Looks a lot like a Note 3. Why I bought this and not a Note 3? I really don't know... better screen I guess.

You did a pretty good job with your Note 4 and I don't blame you for going nuts on your friends. I hate people who treat other people's property like crap!
you should stop hanging out with this friend of yours.
I can't blame him 100% too. It was me who put my device without cover in my friend's hands. What I really can't understand is how the screen is completly fine. Looking at direct sunlight I can't see any (new) scratches and that's awesome!
Good job man. Were you and your friends drunk?
My friends know I'd go Hulk on them if they did that to my phone, none have ever dropped my phone, although I did drop one friend's phone when it was just a day old, was W850 Walkman back in 2007 in highschool, he didn't get mad though but I felt very bad, luckily those days you didn't have to worry about a screen crack, just had to pick the phone up and put the battery back in and close the batt. cover, good times.

We weren't drunk, at least I wasn't ... He's one of these people that when he drops his phone reacts like "meh, it's just a phone".. He owns a Galaxy Pocket and he usually treats his phone like that: a cheap, resistent phone. When he dropped MY device, he reacted like he usually do with his Pocket. That's my hypothesis about this situation.. I really don't care that much, the phone looks fine after all. I own a spare Note 4 with a fried motherboard. But looks like brand new from outside so if sometime it starts to look bad I'll replace it :good:
RESPECT
Bro, i respect you self control. Had my friend done that to my note 4... I would have choked him OUT! Looks good man!

Elecom's Futuristic XZ2T Case

I think this is the coolest thing ever, I was going to buy one and customize it to look like the weathered hull of a space ship, but it seems to only be available from Japan and it costs like $100+ :/
http://www2.elecom.co.jp.e.gj.hp.transer.com/products/TBM-SOZ2AHVWH.html
While I can appreciate the design and engineering that went into this multi-layer system, I don't feel like a few millimeters of plastic is worth over $100 just because it's molded to look cool. Making inexpensive cool shells like this seems like something bootleggers/counterfeiters should be jumping all over. I'd definitely buy a cheaper version of this to decorate.
Do you know of any other cases that look like this but don't cost half your rent money? haha
