OpenGL differences - Atrix 4G Android Development

Hi Everyone,
I'm an Android Developer of applications and I've been having problems with my Atrix and OpenGL. I was wondering if anyone was aware of major differences concerning OpenGL on the Atrix. I've been having bugs on this device that don't appear on any other ( Nexus One, Droid).

What version are you using?

My app using ogl 1.1 had had no issues at all.

Gingerbread differences

I upgraded to gingerbread but dont notice some of the gui visual differences. Anyone else notice this too?

Theres not much changed in the graphics itself. More underlying stuff has been changed.
For me the most important things are greatly improved battery life and properly working gps (quick fix). There are others reporting faster and more responsive overall user experience.
Its really worth to upgrade to 2.3

What version tab do you have? Thanks.

Mines a hell of a lot faster with Gingerbread... Love it, would recommend the upgrade...
Mines a p1000t, aussie telstra version. Has same modem as the A,T&T version in the states...
Rogers sgt p1000. I waz hoping for alot of the gui graphical updates in gingerbread.

Search tab forumn gingerbread has ALOT of bugs. Threads and threads with pages and pages.
Wait till oc/uv and a more stable kernel. Current kernel is a mix between tab software with a sgs driver. Because samsung hasnt released source code yet. Gingerbread isnt officially out in the us or most of the world for the tab.
An interesting note on gingerbread. Drop your lcd density to 165 and some stock icons upgrade to a totally different icon. Example is phoneicon.

If you want to change the GUI of your Tab, I suggest that you try out some launcher apps. LauncherPro for example, you can easily change how the homescreen looks.
Or if your open to custom ROM's, I suggest that you keep a close eye to the development of Overcome ROM. They are beginning to customize the GUI of the ROM, as well as optimization tweaks for the whole device.
Thanks for all of your answers

Port of galaxy tab ROM?

Is this possible? Not stock based ROM with some themes and tweaks but a full out port of a tab2 7".

sure, if youre willing to work at it. but chances are it wont run perfectly. why would you want to downgrade your nexus 7 anyways?
Is there something about the Tab's version of Android that makes you want it over Google's? If it is something specific to the Tab from Samsung and not just an app the likelihood is it won't run right on the Nexus.
I had the chance to get a tab and I wanna see what the tab was like.

Might try a touchwiz rom, I think that the tabs are over rated.

Touchwiz rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038920&highlight=touchwiz
I know of the ROM with the launcher but it doesn't have all the features the tab has to offer. (Not trying to say the tab is better than the nexus because the nexus 7 is amazing)

Part of what makes the N7 so much better than the Tab is that it has much better hardware and specs. Running the Tab's version of Android on the N7 (assuming you could) wouldn't tell you much about the Tab in terms of performance. It would be a useless comparison in that regard.
The only thing I would want to see from the tab 2 7inch is the tab ui launcher from its ics Rom, I always see the other launcher from jb ported but never the one that has tab ui

I see threads like this in the forums of every device I've owned (and that's a few).
People want HTC sense on their Samsung's, Touchwiz on their HTC, or some other combination.
The only device I've ever seen it pulled off successfully was HTC sense on the nexus one and only because the HTC desire had identical internal hardware.
It's just way too much work as overlays like Sense, Touchwiz, and Motoblur are closed source. It's possible to reverse engineer them and get them working on different hardware but it's a huge amount of labour and the results would be poorly optimized and not very much fun to use if someone even did manage it.
Some people with tabs go to great effort to run pure Google on them and you have that out of the box so be grateful for what you have. The grass is always greener on the other side.

I got my son a tab2 for Christmas and your not missing much. Sure its a nice tablet but I like my n7 better.

Force GPU Rendering?

I come from HTC`s HD2 and every custom rom benefited from this option on the given hardware.
With the 4X HD I`m not really sure...any thoughts? Should I enable Hardware Acceleration?

I just enabled it after reading it helps with battery, will report back

So did I. So far no difference.

Enable HW Acceleration.
As for GPU Rendering, I see minimal difference as the UI on the O4X is already quite smooth but personally, I enabled it.

I did enable it and as you pointed out, the UI is smooth as hell already, so no change there. I do wonder if its draining my battery faster...

[Q] core appliations from jb to work on ICS

Does anyone knows if some core applications, like camera, keyboard or other will work on ICS, if taken from an JBH ROM?
Is there a way to find any ported roms?
Thank oyu in advance and sorry if this has already been asked
There are flashable zips for some of them, but whether the rest will work or not, no idea. There are quite a few differences between ICS and JB so some apps may not be compatible. What are you looking to use?

Like drop down menu with control of gmail, keyboard with downloadable dictionaries,, for starters.

no way like testing each app you want from jelly...

[Q] AOSP performance

Every AOSP or non Sense/GPE ROM I install had issues with performance in heavy games such as Asphalt 8, no matter what kernel I use our how much I overclock the GPU/CPU. Are there any suggestions or fixes for this out there?
Thanks in advance.
