[Q] Factory Reset Question - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im Currently Using Froyo 2.2 Harcdcore Speedmore Kernal With Few Option Set To On, Phone Is Rooted And Superuser Is Installed. Rom Is Stock ( Hate If Warranty Void )
My Question Is,
Do I Need To Turn Of, Disable Root & Superuser Before Im Start With The Reset? ( Factory Data Reset ) Or It Doesn't Matter? What If Im Trying To Do Hard Reset?
Please Forgive Me If The Question Has Been Answered Before, But Do Point Me To The Thread

I have done Factory Data Reset many times without disabling the lagfix and disabling root and super user so its safe. About hard reset never tried that so can't say for sure.

No,
it is not necessary to unroot and delete superuser. And even if you are on a speedmod kernel you can do a factory reset. Not the same if you were using Voodoo (disable voodoo and than wipe all).

Make a complete wipe/factory reset and reflash the firmware.

Do you have any Lagfix enabled? Got start-up issues too after I enabled DATA_LOOP and BIND_DATA options. Just flash a Titanium Backup or disable this and make a factory reset after that.

i removed lagfix too on a previous time this all happened so i guess it hasnothing to do with that either
Make a clean phone format everything including internal sd and system .
Install Eclair and wait to see if problem solved .
Do not upgrade to 2.2.1
If the phone fails on Eclair then its hardware .

not so great news then...
i tried rooting when i was on eclair, because i had the problem since then already but i blamed it to eclair..
worth to send the phone off for repair then?
worth to send the phone off for repair then?
At least ask a Samsung Service centre .

I had a similar problem when i was with 2.2.1 JPX (without any lagfixs) + root, sometimes when the I restared the phone everything started to crash, and I had to do a factory reset to fix those FC..
I've done a complete format (internal SD..) and flashed 2.2 with speedmod kernel (no lagfix) + root, and so far so good, i've made a lot of restarts, and no problem..

Doing a factory reset wont cause any problems, too be honest it fixes problems, all it will do is delete your apps and settings.
if you are flashing to another ROM you SHOULD ALWAYS DISABLE LAGFIX, the only times you dont need to undo the lagfix is when upgrading, say... from darkys 9.5 - 10.0 BUT, only if you are on the same kernel.
to be safe i always disable lagfix, the times i dont, i make a nandroid backup.
its better to be safe than try and fix a bricked phone, it takes a few minutes to disable / make nandroid so its always worth it.

You can flash one of the one click odin without BOOTLOader from this thread ...........
boot into recovery...wipe data/factory reset
that will remove all user data, all accounts on the phone, all user apps, just like you fresh flashed the rom....

[Q] Factory Reset on rocket Rom

hi guys
want to confirm sumthin..
1. there is a function under setting--privacy--restore data factory in my note
im running rocket rom v19 which came originally when i bought this 2nd hand set.. there is also rooted, cwm, jkay inside..
so the question is.. what will happen if i do the factory reset from here?
will my rooted(super user),cwm, jkay gone or erase?
will it go back to stock rom?
2. there is full wipe option in cwm.. izzit wipe all the rom file oso? what will happen when i do full wipe without flashing any rom?
is there any option in cwm to remove all data/account only? ( i mean to make it like super virgin yet still with the same rom with rooted, cwm and jkay)
hope you guys can help on this.. i want to remove all the previous owner data..
You can factory reset from clockwork....its all good just backup what you don't want to lose.
Btw you won't lose root....just do the reset from clockwork.....i have had issues doing it from inside the Rom.
One last thing make sure you keep a zip of the Rom onboard so if you run into bootloops after the reset you can just reinstall the Rom and be brand new.....you could also do that instead of the reset if you wanted also.

full wipe from CWM will restore your note to default settings
default as in a clean install of:
- current installed rom (Rocket v19)
- Root
- jKay
- CWM
- no apps
So, better you back up using TiBu first whatever you need to restore after defaulting
