I don't think it will be long. Novell's project Mono has been working on it. Read about it here.

For me the main reason to have silverlight support is to get Netflix working. Unfortunately, moonlight lacks all the DRM components that are required to use Netflix. This is the main reason why there is not Netflix on linux yet. It would be nice though since my university is using silverlight as the plugin to stream class recordings

I want silver light so I can stream my zune pass
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App

I want it so i can make apps in vs that don't use the confusing android ui components and then the same web app can be available to desktop users.

That is true, there are actually 2 TV apps in the market. SPB TV and Television. Both of them are HORRIBLE. I mean seriously, who in the US is interested in Al Jazeerah TV? or the christian programming channel? C'mon. Those apps have the worst channels I've seen. with like 10 24 hour news channels in all sorts of languages. I guess if you have nothing better to do it is worth turning on, but not paying for it.
This is just an opinion from a new yorkers POV

EyeTV is an USB TV Tuner for Mac and‚ (possibly PC) that allows you to watch TV on your computer. The iphone app appears to stream data from your computer to your iphone rather than streaming directly from an internet feed. So although this is very useful, it is probably slightly different to what you're looking for.
In the UK we have a decent BBC TV app which will stream over wifi and 3G (dependent on your provider).
Hmmmmm anyone tried streaming over the web from Hulu or fancast...... both are free.
Edit
ooops both need flash to work. I guess we will have to wait for the long awaited plugin promised by Adobe

How does it work, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks
You install the Orb server software on your home PC, as well as a TV tuner card. The orb server software is able to stream the tv signal from the tuner card over the internet via .3gp to your phone. Check out their website and search for "android orb" in google. There's tons of threads about it.

Heard back from Sling today on an Android app and they basically said no way it's happening because Android is Linux based and not windows based. Here is the email I got:
As we understand, you want to know if the Slingbox will support the Android Operating System and Mobile device any time soon. We will be more than willing to assist you.
Android is a software platform and operating system for mobile devices, based on the Linux Operating System, developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that utilizes Google-developed Java libraries, but does not support programs developed in native code.
Most of the supported cell phones run on Windows OS. Since Android runs on Linux OS, it is not compatible with the SlingPlayer. Therefore, Slingbox will not support it.
If you require further assistance, feel free to visit http://support.slingmedia.com or contact us at 1-877-GO-SLING (877-467-5464) Monday through Sunday 7am-7pm Pacific Time.
For future reference your case number is XXXXXX.

Hi there
I work for Sky Technical Support and I know that you cannot watch Sky Player through any mobile browser at the moment (namely due to Silverlight only recognizing desktop browsers - yes it can even say no to Skyfire's desktop mode)
There is an android app in the works which should hopefully be made available after the new year however, as with everything in the works, no actual date has been confirmed. It shouldn't be too long a wait

Yes, only if your computer is running XBMC at the time and yo have UPNP sharing turned on.
However, you don't need the XBMC program on your tablet to stream music or videos from your XBMC library on your PC; You can use UPNPbubble from the Play store to access the shared library and MX Player (or any other player) to play them.
i have an iomega nas drive and its streams great from it to the nexus 7 ... the only thing with videos its still software decoding not gpu yet
pretty laggy

Hopefully we get Teg3 support on XBMC when it hits beta. There is definitely not going to be Teg2 (h/w decode drivers) for XBMC Android, but theres a chance we could see Teg3 fully supported. :>
That is fantastic! Can't wait to try it.
They really need to work on a touch friendly skin for xbmc though, I can see him struggling to hit list items.
theres two skins cooked in to the (precompiled apk) download build, confluence and a touch friendly theme for smaller screens

Not true. I've been using a beta version I found somewhere around here, and it works exactly like XBMC on a PC. You can add sources from several kinds of network shares or local stuff on your device. I stream all my stuff from simple windows/smb shares, with no special sharing program running on the PC, and it works great.

I installed the APK from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772433
It struggles with 720p MKVs right now, but I don't think it's optimised for the Tegra 3 chipset yet.
yup, it's software only decode for now.
even so, it's still a very awesome build for a pre-alpha :>
Tried it out last night and work really well streaming from my Nas.
Anyone have a link to getting LiveOnlineFooty on XBMC

i never understood the whole point of XBMC .. so it allows you to stream movies/music to a device correct?
yup, that is kind of the best bit of xbmc, means you can store your movies on a central server and access them on multiple devices throughout your house. Mind you the awesome plugins that stream from external sources is a very close second.

I use XBMC as my main media centre in my house, usually I use androids and iphones as the remote controls for my TV with XBMC running on it, this way is a bit around the wrong way but I can see it being awesome for things like the nexus Q and TV's with embedded android who can suddenly grow full featured media centres

Android TV Software

I know nothing about Android TV software, but I'm interested in buying an Ouya (already pre-ordered) for the sole purpose of installing Android and using it as an Android TV with gaming capabilities. This may seem like quite a stretch, I'm not sure.
Does Google share the source code for Android TV? Is anyone else interested in this or something similar?
Well, someone can try to port the Android TV Apps to Ouya, but we need the sources...
Hey ... i think about the same Project.
First of all we should wait if the first Ouya Devices shipped because i think at these time they will release the needing Sources.
If not we have "GPL Violation" .... so we should wait.
I will perfom the integrated "XBMC" with now support Live-TV in Combination with "tvheadend" Server but need help to get tvheadend compile and run under "Android-Kernel" (Tegra3). If some developer will help it would be great !!!
XBMC is already working on supporting OUYA so no worries there. It will probably be ready by the time OUYA consoles ship out.

I know it but for getting xbmc work like live tv you need server with Communication to your dvb device over USB. I actually test some dev porting and compiling of tvheadend server for Android Kernel but got some Problems because Most libs doesnt work .
I test actually with tegra 2 device so if first Version run its easier to port it to newer tegra parts !

I use my HDHomeRun on XBMC. It's natively supported with XBMC and it's a network streamer. You set up a list of your channels (takes a bit of work), then select which channel you want from a list. Get a HDHomeRun.
I been using a Rasp Pi....
Sort of related, I installed the YouTube for Google TV apk on my Ouya and it runs great. Works splendidly with a controller, and can still use my phone to control playback.
edit: sorry if this was a terrible grave-dig.

Any Hope of more (Official) Content?

I'd like to start a thread for news/rumors of more officially supported services.
Not casting web-pages, or demo Apps/Hacks, but Official Apps from other services that support Chromecast.
Any hope?
well hulu and pandora is confirmed, but the main problem right now is the SDK isn't complete (they have a preview one out though).
Once the SDK is done we will start seeing a lot of content I bet.
I am looking forward to bitcasa support. That will be awesome.

I hope so - I think this is the first step of moving away from Broadcast TV for TV entertainment. This is the revolution that Apple had planned to do but didn't. When people do reviews of the Cast I think they miss the largest point. Controlling the content using an interface we all love (phone or tablet) is a giant step forward. Using the built in smart features of a TV or DVD to search for a YouTube video is a terrible experience. You need a link to find most things and those are shared in communication links in your phone.

Ya i thought that is what you were talking about, what else the chromecast will be able to do. Its confirmed it will be able to use hulu and pandora should be comming kinda soon. And HBO, Vimeo, Redbox Instant, Vevo (?), Devour (?), Blip (?) (maybe these are britsh or something, i've never heard of them), have all mentioned they are planning on it.
(where I got the information)

So ya in total we have
right now
youtube
netflix
google play music
google play video
soon
hulu
pandora
HBO go
announced support
Vimeo
Redbox Instant
Vevo
Devour
Blip
plus soon we get the official sdk and we will get 100s of apps I bet
Hulu said they were interested in adding it some day. I wouldn't be expecting it anytime soon. The only real partner besides Netflix announced at launch was Pandora. My guess is Pandora will release an update about the same time the final SDK is released. Google is probably working with Pandora as sort of a beta test of the SDK.
