I8700XXKA1 Firmware - Omnia 7 Windows Phone 7 Development

The I8700XXKA1 ROM has been spotted in the wild. Look here. KA1 means it is from January 2011. It includes the NoDo updated Windows Phone version 7.0.7355.0. It is confirmed that ChevronWP7 is not working anymore. I hope we can get a firmware-dump here as soon as possible. If we have a firmware-dump, we'll be able to switch between 7.0.7004 and 7.0.7355 by reflashing the ROM. This can be usefull when trying to find a new sideload-jailbrake. Anybody with a JTAG and a new Omnia7, please dump here!

SamFirmware says it will be online "later". See Tweet 1 and Tweet 2. But it is't here yet.

I'm more interested to know if there are any performance differences like the last firmware update.
If nothings changed much then its not worth me potentially bricking my phone over.

The last firmware update (February, 2011) was a preparatory update for actual update coming later this year. It did not change anything, really.

I'm talking about firmware, not the pre nodo update.
The last new firmware improved the GPS, HSDPA, Wifi etc so it connected a lot faster.

You guys are talking about two different things. The KA1 update contains Windows Phone build 7.0.7355 which contains the NoDo update. The February update that zyborg is talking about is Windows Phone build 7.0.7008 which is only a very small update and it preceeds the NoDo update. EDDS asks if the KA1 contains improvements like the JK1 update did. JK1 contained updates for the Samsung bios. The KA1 may contain updates for the Samsung firmware too, but I'm not sure about that. It does contain a new version of Windows Phone, which is known to have performance improvement due to better memory management. So it does have performance improvements, except they are not in the bios, but in Windows Phone OS.
Edit: Too late ;-)

Just a little heads up here: I got some version numbers.
First the version numbers for the 'old' I8700XXJK1:
OS: 7.0.7004.0
Firmware: 2424.10.11.1
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio software: 2424.10.11.1
Radio Hardware: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader: 4.11.0.3
Chip SOC: 0.36.2.0
And now the versions for the new I8700XXKA1:
OS: 7.0.7355.0
Firmware: 2424.11.1.1
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio software: 2424.11.1.1
Radio hardware: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader: 4.11.0.5
Chip-SOC: 0.36.2.0
So the new phones have NoDo, still the same hardware revisions, and minor software updates in the Samsung BIOS.

NoDo seems to be 7.0.7389.0. So this ROM does'nt have the final NoDo release.

Yeah, I saw that too. It's remarkable, because people who have this firmware on their phone report that they have Copy/Paste and that ChevronWP7 is not working. So it definitely has NoDo, but somehow not the final version of the update.

My device arrived today,
OS; 7.0.7355.0.
It has copy and paste.
So far have been unable to sicronize with zune, zune complains about not being able to acess some files.

Try updating Zune. Maybe you don't have the latest version.
I guess you wouldn't be able to make a ROM dump, are you? (I don't know how to do it. I guess it can only be done with JTAG, or something).

I will look into it, but I'm a nob on wp7 at the moment.
Zune problem fixed, the old style hard reset.

Nope there is no NoDo update for Omnia yet. Samfirmware they said their working on getting it. But it was a long time ago. At this stage you might as well just wait for the march update. First half of the month is over so according to MS we should get the notification for update soon

It said 2nd half of the month. Will you relax Im sure it will be here soon Better a bit late than having tons of bricked phones.
Dont forget MS issues an update to OEM's, OEM's issue it to carrier. They all check whats good and whats not and and then MS has to address what MS and Carriers think is ok and not. Its quality assurance. Every large company has to do this. MS being a giant doesnt make this easier. The update probably has to be signed of by tons of people.
And Brandon Watson said that their working on making sure that WP7 updates are issued out faster in the future.
Looking at the leaked roms for HTC phones that include nodo update, these have been ready for a while and are fully functioning. Im sure its carriers being slow to test the software and be ready to send it out. As they said they will issue the updates to everyone at the same time. So slow carriers and OEM's can slow down the process too in order to avoid poeple crying that some one gets update faster than the other.
So rather than it being Microsofts fault its OEM's and Carriers fault for slow reaction. I would be far happier if MS did what google does and release their own developers phone that would get the updates first and screw the carriers.

relax??!! ;-)
I am the kind of guy got on a plane to london to get the 8gb omnia 7 the minute it was releasead in Payg on three ;-) not to wait to have it officialy released in Poland or germany... ;-)))
but I do understand your point and fully agree on that.
I'd also prefer MS to release the updates via their own channels rather than through carriers.
I am just little mad because in the beginning it was officiall that nodo will be released on Feb 14th, than march 8th, then first half of march and now it is second...
we should get used to not paying much care to what ms officials say...

[Q] Is there a offical Froyo update?

Hey guys,
Is there a official froyo release for the Galaxy S?
I am not sure about this because i read different things on the net.
And if there is one ... how do i install it?
I tried to install the f**cking thing of a software called Kies.
The installation always gets aborted So, currently i am pretty stucked.
not yet
you have to wait, deadline is close
Do i get informed by my phone when it is availible?
And what seems the be the way it gets installed? OTA? Or do i have to flash it with Kies, which can't be installed on my system?

I doubt they would release a major upgrade on a saturday.
It will probably come out next monday.
And since next week is the last week of september, I have high hopes samsung didn't lie to everyone and we will be seeing it then.

Hmmm... I updated to 7008 yesterday. No more updates for me just yet. Hopefully it'll show up soon.
Compared to the HD2, these updates are coming pretty quick.. woohoo.
Oh.. the HD2 went yesterday.. I now have a HD7. Lovely
Nothing as of last night, no notification on the phone today yet either.
The pre-update (7008) took about a week after the official release date for me, so I'm thinking that with a similar delay this time around, I should get Nodo on the 29th. If it comes before then, I'll be happy.

I can confirm this works. I have just debranded and received the official nodo update directly though Zune
Thanks for the headsup
Hmm. Perhaps I'll try this, though I'm not sure how much I really need an update a week early ;p
Is there any downside to this unbranding? Any chance I will miss out on features/stuff down the line? I'm guessing not but you never know, it doesn't hurt to collect as much info as I can first. Fairly used to messing with phones (I remember flashing my MPx200 with the leaked WM2003 ROM many years ago, and more recently jailbreaking one of those iThings) but not usually so early in an OS' lifecycle, and never so soon after I buy a phone, lol.
Likely I will go ahead with this (can't help but tinker!) but just wondered if there is anything I should know! Anything HD7 specific, or o2 specific, maybe.
Edit: never mind I've done it now
Still no update here - man waiting sucks so much lol

[Q] Chevron7 NoDo update really a problem?

Hey all, running a T-Mobile HD7 after running the Chevron7 NoDO update with no problems.
I am reading off of Gizmodo today that possibly the Chevron7 update permanently breaks for any further updates?
I have been searching for the forums for any info or confirmation, but also in comments on the Giz article, says XDA has already posted a fix? Really?
Crap!
Anyone have any confirmation or information on this?
Crap.. confirmed on teh Chris Walsh blog. He confirms that his update WILL break your phone for future updates and is working to find a fix. *Sigh*
Yeah this is a bummer.
But I'm pretty confident that by the time the next major update makes an appearance (Mango in 6 months or so) there will be a workaround available for those of us that used the Chevron updater for Nodo to allow an upgrade to Mango. Walshie's on it!
I think that's may true,
because I use ROM from O2DE and the first time with Chevron method, I got HTC update after NoDo.
and second time I re-flash again with the same ROM and upgrade to NoDo by Zune update, I can't get the HTC update until now..
I think.. maybe the update URL for specific phone was been change after use the Chevron Updater.
I've cut MS a lot of slack until now... If this is the case I'll just vote with my feet and switch to Android like i'm sure many others would...
I expect a bit of common sense from the largest software house on the planet... Release the update to carriers... Give them time to test...Set a global release date.... Jeez..
I don't believe this can't be fixed and it'll be a ploy for MS to say: 'hey we fixed this for our community, arn't we nice'... If not I guess the XDA community will work their magic as usual ;-)
Well after i used it to update to NoDo i then got the HTC firmware update about a day later. Which seems to imply it doesnt leave the phone totally unservicable.
The impression I got was past NoDo they are saying it will fail, I also got the O2 uk HTC one through Zune a day later..
I think the guy is getting paid by MS to agree with them. They don't want users circumventing the carriers.

With Chevron you got the HTC update after NoDO because it was unbundled from the Official NoDo update. Without Chevron, you did not see it as a separate update because is was properly bundled with the official NoDo update. You are missing nothing now, you have the HTC update.

Mango Update delivering NOW!

I´m installing Mango right now in Germany. Samsung Omnia 7 unbranded (de-branded^^). Used the old Wi-Fi-off trick to get the official update via Zune.
Could you please write what is final release version number after your phone updates?
No luck for me here in the UK...

I'm installing in Finland too, right now. Didn't have to do any tricks, just opened Zune and plugged phone in. I had official Beta 2 installed and now upgrading straight to Mango, no need to go NoDo first.

I mean from the phone "about" screen in settings?
7720.68 of course.
Drivers are 2424.11.8.5
radio is 2424.11.7.2
and bootloader is 5.8.1.9
done a clean update... flashed 7389, updated to 7392, registry hacked to add Czech language, updated to 7403 and 7720, all via Zune
Now its installing update four? First one was Mango, second was some beta 2 cleanup update, third was Samsung firmware update and now its installing Samsung firmware update #2..
Ok so the version that was here already for some time which was 7720.68 RTM is gold for Omnia?
Because I've read that guys with Dell Venue pro are receiving 7720.219.
Same here.

hi, I just updated to 7.10.7720.68 (is this final mango??) but I can not set display language to "czech".... some version mishmash??
updated mine through Zune this morning, no connection dis trick needed. I was on leaked RTM, so zune only updated my radio and firmware.
Now hidden wifi, touch focus, and bing vision all work!
I found another way to get the official Mango on my omnia 7 with the 7720 RTM.
Follow this site and you will get it fast and easy
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011...paign=Feed:+Mobiletechworld+(MobileTechWorld)
It worked for me..
I'm sorry mate, but Czech isn't deployed on all phones, you have to hack it BEFORE updating to Mango by adding Czech into registry as available language.
(I still feel like MS did it this way to give it to users, because they would have some problems with official methods, like EULAs or whatever?)
I don't think you need to do anything if you are on RTM - I went from NoDo through the betas to RTM on my 3 branded Omnia 7, connect it to Zune and its updating it for me.
@gremmmy
Tried it twice, ended up with a bricked phone twice, unbricked twice thanks god!

It looks like a new firmware is coming (T700 only so far)

Sammobile has posted a number of regional T700 firmwares in the recent few weeks. The firmware patch level is from summer 2017, but it was built this summer. Bizarre, isn't it? Very un-samsung-like to release an update to four year old tablet. However, if they do release an update why not use the most recent Marshmallow AOSP codebase (I believe from r81 from October 2017) instead of summer of 2017?
Anyways, if this is not a hoax, I hope the T800 version would be coming some time as well.

I got my T800 Updated this morning. It was a France model and the version of the update is T800XXU1CRH1 dated august 2018 with august 2017 security.
The update says it was for the european GDPR law. So maybe just the euro models will be updated.
Got the update too. Confirm it says it is for GDPR. A whole update only for this? OK the security update is there, but they never bothered to keep it updated in that sense

Oh, that's disappointing. This means that these updates won't extend beyond Europe. Sammobile shows now that there is also an update for T800 (France only so far). I guess Samsung won't do a real miracle for our tablets, as in providing an up to date security patch level.
A new firmware was now also published for the T705 (TGY = Hongkong):

Just got a prompt for an update on my 5 year Samsung sm-t800 in th UK. Its 253mb and I guess there is no improvement just a load of help files and data protection warnings in the os I guess. Does anyone know what is exactly in it..?
Heard a very strange 'ding' from my T800 (U.S WiFi only model) just now, and sure enough a new software update window was on the screen. At first I was thinking it was a 'fake' splash page since I had Chrome open, but alas it was not.
Firmware T800XAR1CRI5 @14.89MB.
Their last update was over a year and a half ago for this tablet, and it seems they are releasing an patch every year or so. (v6.01 09/2016, then patch 6.01 4/2017, and now patch 6.01 11/2018). So this original Tab S 10.5 is almost 5 years old and still getting security patches each year.
Also, I'm a bit baffled since I had 'Scheduled Software Updates' set to 'Off' and it still got it.

According to Sammobile, the Security Patch level of this firmware is only 2016-11-01. So, either this update is for something other than security patches, or Samsung does not report the patch level correctly. If the patch level is truly only at 2016-11-01 level, then this update does not address some of the famous security problems from recent times, such as the KRACK or Spectre. So I won't be pulling this firmware because my ROM is already modified, but I might use the new ROM if I decide to start from fresh setup.
Just got a notification for the US version on t-700. I'll flash in the morning. If I notice anything meaningful, I'll report back here.
Before and after, for your comparison. Kernel was updated, and SE as well. I'm guessing patching vulnerabilities there.

Even worse for me, it installed itself without my permission overnight without even a prompt. I don't have updates on just like you.
I notice the kernel version has a new date but is exactly the same version and build.
Seems strange that Samsung would push an update to such an old tablet. Hopefully they aren't trying to drum up sales for the S4 by breaking something.
