[Q] Kernel with IPV6 support? - Touch Diamond2, Pure Android Development

First of all a big thank to devs for giving us the possibility to have android on topaz.
I've tried last system.ext2 and kernel with camera support, I've downloaded google goggles but there's an error for ipv6 missing in kernel and it doesn't work.
So the question is: is it possible to add ipv6 to the kernel?

see if this works for you. this is what I use. it works like a charm. add this to system/lib/modules ipv6.ko
or mount
mount --bind /sdcard/ipv6.ko /system/lib/modules/ipv6.ko
and add modprobe ipv6 to your startup.txt
don't know if this going to work for you. but try it
good luck. thanks

Hi tiad8, tried it with mount but android doesn't work. I get errors on several processes and I can't get to home screen...

[Q] Cifs-Support within Kernel

Hi,
I am just wondering why cifs-support does not apperar in any of the modded kernels? Is there no common request for it?
I for myself would love to stream media in my wifi-network at home. The available separate cifs.ko (and additional files like slow-work.ko) are installable by script for use in cifsmanager for example, but it is not convenient to install it after every reboot (and I dont get the sense of the additional files, too).
Is there any reason (kernel gets to slow/to big)? As far as I can see it is integrated in 2.2-Kernels for other mobiles.
Sorry for my english,
regards

it takes space, and imho it's less useful than tun.ko support. You can compile one with cifs support though.

Maybe at least CONFIG_SLOW_WORK=y should be configured(I don't know if it is on custom kernels). This will remove the need for a second module for cifs and it's pretty small (130kb)

[Q] DEVELOPERS, Need help to get VPN work (tun.ko)

Hi! I just created a tun.ko file for the current DK-Rom (Kernel 2.6.32.21-ge5a759b)
Here is an update-flash package with openvpn connection gui and tun.ko included.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CN3D0PRP
if i try to "insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko " i got an error: device / resource busy...
lsmod shows no tun.ko loaded...
Also tried before :
mkdir /dev/net
mknod /dev/net/tun c 10 200
Anyone an idea ?
Maybe i found the problem. Need some free time to get the fix to work.
BUT , (Cisco) VPN-Pack is on the WAY for Wildfire Froyo
try cm7, tun.ko is included on the rom.. also the openvpn app.. i got it working
Thanks for the Information. I would like to get it work with my rom.

[WIP] Ubuntu on G9 v0.2

Hey guys,
let's try to get Ubuntu working on our tablets.
adbd is included in the images, so you have a root shell over adb
SDE required.
Extract all.
adb push ubu1204.img.ext4 /data/media/
Reboot - SDE - Flash kernel and initrd
Multiboot menu 0.3 - ubu1204.img.ext4 (from the menu to start the ICS, such as "archos.ext4")
Done.
(passwords: ubuntu - ubuntu root - root)
Working:
- Booting on 80G9 and 101G9
- Touchscreen (touchpad mode)
- Keyboard via OTG cable
- Mass storage on rear USB-prt
- SD card automount on plugin
- LCD backlight brightness control via command line, lol
- Networking (incl. WiFi)

Sorry, I don't understand your question :S
how would i implement a dualboot
You can take the initramfs.cpio.gz posted by letama in another thread (look at the link to Ice Cream Sandwich - the file is inside the archive you download).
Then extract it and have look at the scripts, which are provided there.
Basically you have to get the system to ask you, from which filesystem image you want to boot
yep! you need to install SDE, restart your device, go in the developer menu and flash the initramfs.cpio.gz that letama posted in the ICS post, atleast that's how it was in the Gen8... by the looks of it the SDE menu is the same. Hope I helped
i wait the multi OS install
2.3
4.0
Ubuntu
Nice, I'll give this a go now.
Edit:
Works on the 101G9.
Keyboard Functions through OTG/Host Cable.
USB Mass Storage (Pen Drive) Functions on 3G Stick Port
Not tried anything else yet.
Are you using a lot of the same kernel objects which android is using?
Excellent Work.
alright thanks

Thank you very much, and also thanks for testing
I am using initramfs + kernel + modules provided by letama for his ICS-build.
By the way - I will upload a new build this night.
I have managed to get basic network functionality via adb + usbcable, so I have upgraded all packages and installed a touchscreen keyboard.
In the new build the LCD backlight brightness is now set to max on boot.
I also have added a user with sudo-permissions, so now settings are saved on reboot (not like in 0.1 where guest sessions were created).
Oh, and I will change the filesystem type from ext3 to ext4.
Still no real progress on WiFi or sound
P.S.: New build will support choosing between booting ICS and Ubuntu
//edit: sry guys, got some problems with my internet provider. i get reconnects every 30 seconds. i hope they get it fixed till tomorrow... sorry for delay, i'm going to upload the stuff tomorrow..

Might be worth giving it a go with a version 3 kernel, you may get some free driver support. although I could be talking nonsense

I activated the root login with my own password from adb and the touchscreen keyboard worked straight away on the 101. It must come with the the drivers preinstalled. I think letma's' done some work into the difference between the 80 and 101.

I've been playing with this all night. I think the drivers have been integrated in the main linux kernel so you should be able to build your own.
They could some prebuilt binaries out there as the OMAP4 board seems quite a popular board.
Also you might have some joy with this http://dev.omapzoom.org/pub/scm/integration/
It's all Good!

Hi Guys,
A1Pha, sorry, didn't have time to test your build, too much stuff going on...
Here is a quick feedback on wifi that may help you:
In android, here is how it works (from memory, don't have my laptop to check)
1) you need to create a nvs file corresponding to tablet, check android init.rc for the way it's done there...
2) Then when you do need wifi, insmod the tiwlan.ko
3) Then, load firmware (check wlan_loader in android init.rc, you should be able to reuse the command) and nvs. If all goes well up to here, you should be able to do ifconfig tiwlan0 and it should have a mac address.
4) Then start wpa_supplicant. You need the appropriate version of wpa_supplicant, 0.8 I think in android source code. You may want to build source code from android source with the appropriate options to remove android extensions.
Again, this is from memory, I'll try to give you more details tomorrow.
Regarding audio, this is mostly alsa so it shouldn't be impossible, you should be able to re-use the configuration found in archos rootfs in /usr/ sub directories. You have to insmod the proper modules though.
Best,
LeTama
Suggestion for the sound, try running the alsamixer and playing with that... worked in debian...

ahh. Thanks for that letama , You're a fountain of knowledge.
I'll give it a try during the holidays.
I was playing about with wpa_supplicant and android kernel drivers. I didn't have the right magic ) and my kernel knowledge is still in it's early stages (only been on the linux desktop for 1 year).

I'm a retired deveopler and don't mind helping out a little where I can. I've enjoyed tweaking my P900 to the max & I'm also glad to finally see some stuff coming out here on XDA for the P900 wifi version. Not much activity on any other forum for this device either. Most likely because of the price of the device and people worring about the Knox tripping issue. I noticed on another forum that someone had compiled a fully functional kernel however they too were experiencing issues with the camera. Anybody have any ideas of whats causing the camera issue? I can possibly help out with the developement of a AOSP rom, or a blazing fast slimmed down ROM. I have plenty of developement knowledge in this area, if there are any interest for one. As for the Kernel issues I'm not too familiar with the compiling however most likely could figure it out.

Can you describe what happens when you select the "Camera" application. Does it force close, not launch, display some type of error. If you could provide the details of what happens, it may be possible to provide a working solution or "Work around."
Also, try installing another camera application from the Android Market and see if that application works. Maybe using another camera source will work and that could be a temporary work around till the issue us resolved. Let us know. Thanks!

here's my observations:
1. Samsung Knox does not get removed as claimed in OP
2. Knox FC every time something is installed and uninstalled (likely under different circumstances too)
3. front camera works perfectly fine
4. rear camera does indeed fail
5. Google camera and 3rd party camera apps fail too
6. Z Device Test still detects all the hardware properties of the rear camera (but maybe that info is retrieved from elsewhere in the /system)
7a. all logcat apps do not work. i waited about 3 to 4 minutes for each to load.
7b. I haven't used it on this tab in a long time so I don't know if kernel caused this
7c. yes, I granted SU to the logcat apps, and later verified that SU wasn't denied.
my relevant info:
p900 USA wifi-only 64gb model
P900UEU1ANC5 (XAR)
edit:
to anyone that cannot boot after installing:
1. try wiping cache and dalvik cache
2. re download and try again if above doesn't fix it
3. if above doesn't fix it and you're on NAE, try updating to ANC5 (or newer?) THEN flashing the kernel again
4. if you're on a version newer than ANC5 that might be the problem and you are out of luck until the kernel is updated for it.
don't ask me about how to update, that's your burden

Okay, this has nothing to do with me since I have P905 with stock kernel. I just read this thread by curiosity and though one thing about camera. Can you open test menu anyway on that device which opens on 3G models (and phones) by typing *#0*# to dialer (P900 has no dialer right?) There you can perform some tests to device and one is to check does camera work right.
Hope this helps, or then it wont

cifs.ko for Amazon Fire? (CM 12.1, Root)

Hey Guys,
anyone tried (sucessfully) to mount a NAS-Share on the Amazon Fire?
Im new to Folder Mounting on Android in General, but what i've learned so far (pls correct me if im wrong!) that your kernel needs to support cifs, witch is nowhere by default. So one could
- compile/patch the Kernel with cifs Components
- Use a functioning cifs.ko together with CifsManager
First one im definitly too dumb to do
Latter one i tried without success with several *.ko floating around. Maybe i found a work working, but didnt configure it properly?
So, anyone has a working solution for mounting a network folder?

At one time Nexus ROM included support for CIFS components; not sure if that functionality made it into build for this device. Kernel can not be patched with a locked bootloader so may be a nonstarter.

I should/might be able to build CIFS support as a kernel module. However last time I had it working due to changes in the upstream linux kernel CIFS Manager can no longer work. When I am up and running again I'll take a look.
Sounds really cool dude!
So, as the bootloader is locked, u wanna give the cifs manager a shot? Would be really awesome if its working!

- Good news overall
- I have compiled the required modules from the Amazon Fire Kernel sources
- Seems to be working in principle
- I can mount a network share via shell command prompt
- I can copy files to and from the share
- However I need to figure out how to let android apps see the mounted file systems
Edit:
- managed to setup a share using cifs manager [emoji3]
- Can now see the files now from a file manager
- Still needs some testing though
